From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 7
A few minutes later, she returned with two ice creams.
The golden waffle cones held three scoops each, one light blue, one pink, and one creamy white. The cool, sweet aroma of milk filled the entire car.
Ji Yunuo glanced at it, initially wanting to remark about eating so much without worrying about gaining weight.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Yanjin handed one to her.
Ji Yunuo wasn’t the one driving, so she could easily take it and eat it.
But she hesitated. She only allowed herself two treats a month once, a small piece of tiramisu, and another time, a bowl of tangyuan.
“I can’t eat this.”
“Are you watching your figure? You don’t look heavy at all.” Xiao Yanjin had already taken two licks, the sweetness blooming on her tongue—rich, fragrant, perfectly balanced.
“No, I only allow myself two treats a month,” Ji Yunuo explained, then added, “I’ve already used them up.”
“Then make it three this month. Rules are set by you, breaking them won’t hurt anyone. A little change now and then isn’t a problem.”
Xiao Yanjin blinked and leaned closer, her youthful scent filling the car.
Ji Yunuo stiffened slightly and shifted away.
“It’s so hot in here. Are you really not going to eat it? I can only finish one, you know. If you don’t take it, it’ll just go to waste… Jiejie…” Xiao Yanjin deliberately softened her voice, watching as a faint blush spread across Ji Yunuo’s snow-white earlobes.
Her ears were delicate, like porcelain, as pale as the vanilla ice cream, the flush on them reminiscent of strawberry swirls.
“Jiejie, your lips look as soft as this ice cream. Would they make a soft sound if they touched it? Are you really not going to try?” Xiao Yanjin studied Ji Yunuo’s lips, lightly tinted with a muted rose lipstick, perfectly shaped, surely lovely when curved into a smile.
She had assumed Ji Yunuo, a wealthy heiress accustomed to luxury, would scoff at this cheap street vendor’s ice cream. Teasing her was just for fun.
But Ji Yunuo took it anyway.
“Thank you for the ice cream.” She took a bite, it wasn’t bad.
“I should be thanking Jiejie for the money.” Xiao Yanjin grinned, surprised by the gratitude. “Oh, I don’t think I have your WeChat yet. When I earn the money, I’ll pay you back through there.”
Ji Yunuo shook her head. “No need.”
“Come on, even if it’s just a dollar, I’ll return it. Borrowing means repaying that’s just basic decency.”
Before she knew it, Ji Yunuo had added her on WeChat.
She hadn’t even realized how strange it was they had met each other’s parents before, their blind date had gone poorly, yet now they were exchanging contacts in such an oddly comfortable atmosphere.
After dropping Xiao Yanjin off at home, the girl waved sweetly. “Thanks for driving me home, Jiejie!”
Ji Yunuo drove back in silence.
But she didn’t get out of the car immediately. Instead, she sat there, reflecting.
This was the first time she had ever driven someone home, let alone a failed blind date. It felt… odd.
Ji Yunuo sighed quietly. That idiot, Xiao Yanjin.
She stepped into a sprawling garden, then entered a massive mansion only to find two people curled up on the sofa in the living room.
“Sweetheart, these strawberries were just picked. Try one,” Ji Zhiye coaxed tenderly, holding her delicate wife in her arms.
Wei Qin nestled against her and pouted coquettishly. “Your hands are dirty. Feed me with your mouth.”
“Alright, alright, whatever you say, my love.” Ji Zhiye’s eyes were filled with nothing but her beloved wife, completely oblivious to their precious daughter who had just entered.
Wei Qin couldn’t see either, too absorbed in the strawberry exchange with her wife, humming contentedly at the pampering.
Ji Yunuo shook her head helplessly at their affectionate display. This was exactly why she hadn’t bothered calling they wouldn’t have noticed her messages anyway!
Days later, a phone notification startled Xiao Yanjin awake.
The message on her screen nearly made her jaw drop.
[Congratulations! You’ve passed the audition and will join the 110 trainees of Dream Chasers, Season 2.]
“Ahhh!”
The Sing & Dance Entertainment office was buzzing with excitement.
CEO Zhang raised a toast to their trainees. “Our company is truly fortunate, three out of five applicants made it! They might even debut together!”
“Debut my foot!” Xiao Yanjin stormed into the office.
CEO Zhang beamed. “Yanjin, you’re one of the selected!”
“Selected my foot!” Xiao Yanjin scoffed. “What were they thinking? My singing was terrible! This is ridiculous, I’m withdrawing!”
“You can’t withdraw,” CEO Zhang’s gaze turned hawkish. “I’m your boss, and you’ll listen to.”
Before he could finish, Xiao Yanjin had him by the collar.
“Good heavens, Xiao Yanjin, have you lost your mind?!” he yelped.
Jiang Nan panicked. “Oh no, stop fighting! Please stop!”
“Yanjin, calm down!” CEO Zhang, genuinely frightened, nearly teared up. “The show’s new rule states that unless medically unfit, no withdrawals are allowed. Remember that male survival show where mass withdrawals caused chaos and fan outrage? The penalty fee is astronomical now, we can’t cover it for you!”
After a moment’s thought, Xiao Yanjin released him.
Why had she been chosen? Was it because of her notorious “scumbag Alpha” reputation to boost ratings?
Exactly! Her infamy would draw viewers. She’d never watched survival shows, how could she have anticipated this scheme?
It wasn’t that Xiao Yanjin disliked singing; she simply found survival shows a waste of time. Given her reputation, debuting was impossible, why bother?
And she loathed rankings.
Fine then, one elimination round would suffice. Quick exposure, quick exit. Best of both worlds.
Xiao Yanjin cleared her throat. “CEO Zhang, I’ve reconsidered. I’ll compete. My earlier outburst was impulsive, my apologies.”
CEO Zhang laughed heartily, clapping her shoulder. “Now that’s what I call pragmatic wisdom!”
Then, turning to Jiang Nan and Zeng Hesh, who had also passed the interview, she said: “Our company was only established a year ago, but in this very year, we managed to catch the recording of the second season of ‘Dream On! Girls’ and successfully got three of you through the auditions. I’m genuinely moved.”
Xiao Yanjin tugged at the corner of her mouth expressionlessly. How pretentious.
“Although I don’t want to pressure you about whether you can debut as a group because let’s face it, you definitely won’t, you should at least strive to make it into the top 15 in the finals. So, Jiang Nan, do you have the confidence?”
Jiang Nan shouted, “Yes!”
“Zeng Hesh, do you have the confidence?”
“Yes, but President Zhang, my surname is pronounced ‘Zeng.'”
President Zhang nodded and turned to Xiao Yanjin, who was scowling. “Alright, Zeng Hesh. Yanjin, what about you?”
“Of course I do,” Xiao Yanjin said with a smile, grinding her back teeth. Of course, I’m confident I’ll drop out in the first round!
The three of them walked out, with Jiang Nan and Zeng Hesh flanking Xiao Yanjin.
Xiao Yanjin: “Hey, are you two trying to make a meat sandwich with me?”
The two immediately shuffled aside. After all, being teamed up with someone who was already a hot topic naturally made them a bit nervous.
Jiang Nan mustered her courage. “Xiao… Yanjin! We can definitely make it to the finals!”
Zeng Hesh nodded. “Let’s do our best! We can make it!”
Xiao Yanjin: “…” Who exactly are you cosplaying?
She couldn’t help but massage her temples. These kids were young, but their brains were seriously damaged. What would become of them in the future?
…
The second season of “Dream On! Girls” was set to begin its first day of filming in City A.
Produced by Menghua Video, this was the second installment of the idol survival show featuring young women.
Among the 110 contestants, there were 46 alphas, 39 Omegas, and 25 betas, all ready to shine together on stage!
Xiao Yanjin and her two companions followed the staff to the filming site.
Today was the initial performance stage for each contestant. To ensure everyone could perform within the day, the participants started arriving before 5 a.m.
Xiao Yanjin, already seated in the fifth row, propped her chin on her hand boredly, watching the bright and energetic girls file in.
The first to enter was an Omega with an elegant demeanor but an icy expression. She noticed Xiao Yanjin looking at her and gave a slight nod. That smile was like the revival of all things in the world, pure as a jasmine flower.
Xiao Yanjin raised an eyebrow. With her experience from her original world, she could tell at a glance that this girl was a powerhouse vocalist.
Next came a tall, short-haired alpha who snorted dismissively upon seeing Xiao Yanjin.
The provocative flavor was unmistakable.
Xiao Yanjin curved her lips. Interesting.
“Please welcome the trainees from Eastern Dream Entertainment,” the backstage announcer introduced the last team to appear.
Everyone in the room stood up in surprise and cheered. Clearly, they were highly anticipating the trainees from this prestigious company.
Eastern Dream was the agency of Xu Zhixia, who had placed second in the debut lineup last season. And among her juniors was none other than Ji Yunuo.
There were five people in total, with Ji Yunuo walking in the center. As a top-tier Omega, she carried a presence that even alphas lacked. Under the gaze of so many, she showed no trace of timidity. Instead, she led her companions straight to the only vacant spot.
Xiao Yanjin averted her gaze. Today, Ji Yunuo looked even more beautiful.
And even colder.
She was simply wearing a white fitted top with blue jeans hardly suitable for dancing. Their performance outfits were probably waiting backstage.
