From Trashy A to the Heiress’s Little Son-in-Law After the Idol Competition (GL, ABO) - Chapter 6
Stepping out of the interview room, Xiao Yanjin found the hallway crowded with another wave of people.
“Is she really Xu Zhixia’s relative?”
“Not just a relative, she’s the eldest daughter of the Ji family. She even acted in a few TV dramas when she was younger.”
“Wow, that’s insane. Why would someone that rich even bother coming here for an audition? Isn’t she just asking for trouble? With her family’s wealth and connections in the entertainment industry, why not just go straight into acting?”
“What a waste of such a pretty face if she doesn’t act.”
Xiao Yanjin figured they must be talking about Ji Yunuo.
Wait… Ji Yunuo?!
What was she doing here?
A group of girls walked down the hallway, weaving through the crowd, with Ji Yunuo at the center. She wore sleek white earphones, her long front strands tucked behind her ears.
Dressed in a cropped blue top that revealed a sliver of fair waist, she seemed unfazed by the lingering spring chill. Her gaze burned bright, like a piercing beam of light.
And those long, slender legs swaying with every step were downright mesmerizing.
Clearly, Ji Yunuo had also spotted Xiao Yanjin hiding in the crowd. A flicker of surprise crossed her face before she schooled her expression and walked past without stopping.
Just three days after their disastrous blind date, here they were, face to face again.
So much for “never seeing each other again”!
Xiao Yanjin cringed at the awkwardness. While her teammates went to grab snacks, she slipped away to the restroom.
Midway through her business, a voice came from the next stall. “Hey, got any extra tissue?”
Who even went to the bathroom without tissue these days?
“Yeah, yeah, here.” Xiao Yanjin pulled out a few sheets and slid them under the partition.
“Thanks, girl.”
After finishing up, they happened to wash their hands at the same time. The girl flashed her a grin before leaving.
Xiao Yanjin couldn’t help but linger on the memory tall, broad-shouldered, striking features, with an air of untouchable regality. She seemed like a strong contender.
Shrugging, Xiao Yanjin dismissed the thought. What did it matter what the other contestants looked like? It wasn’t like she was here to find romance.
A sharp pang twisted in her stomach, followed by a wave of nausea.
She’d woken up too early today, and the greasy food she’d eaten wasn’t sitting well.
Better head back soon.
As she passed through the hallway near the audition area, the crowd had noticeably thinned.
Ji Yunuo, now finished with her performance, leaned against the railing, waiting for her teammates. Her earphones were still in, but this time, she seemed to be talking to someone.
Half her hair cascaded loose, the other half tucked neatly behind her ear. Her profile was soft, serene like a delicate noblewoman from the Jiangnan region. Yet, her icy demeanor made it impossible for anyone to approach, no matter how gentle she appeared.
Xiao Yanjin deliberately avoided looking at her. Skipping this competition was the right choice at least then she wouldn’t have to see Ji Yunuo again.
But just as she walked past, a strange, indescribable scent hit her nose. The nausea from earlier surged violently, and before she could stop herself, Xiao Yanjin stumbled, right into Ji Yunuo.
And the vomit she’d been holding back splattered all over Ji Yunuo’s pristine outfit.
Ji Yunuo: “…”
When Xiao Yanjin woke up, she found herself lying in a hospital bed.
“You’re awake?” The voice was cool, mature, the kind that belonged to a domineering beauty. For a second, Xiao Yanjin wondered if she’d transmigrated again.
“Mom?”
“Don’t tell me you’ve made yourself sick in the head too.” A cold voice shattered Xiao Yanjin’s fantasy, and she turned to look.
There sat Ji Yunuo in a black jacket, perfectly upright in her chair with impeccable posture.
But her expression wasn’t great dark and gloomy, as if she wanted to devour someone.
“Why are you here?”
At this question, Ji Yunuo’s face darkened further. Xiao Yanjin could clearly see a vein bulging on her forehead.
Only then did Xiao Yanjin remember she had fainted… and vomited on her.
“If I say sorry, will you forgive me?” Xiao Yanjin asked cautiously. “Actually, I had a stomachache earlier and caused you trouble.”
Playing meek to beg for mercy was the only way to stay safe.
Ji Yunuo was famously clean to the point of obsession, she naturally couldn’t stand such filth.
Fortunately, the other party apologized politely, so she could afford to be magnanimous and forgive her.
“It’s fine. Since you’re awake, it means you’re not dead.”
Xiao Yanjin: “…”
“Is this a hospital?”
“Where else would it be?”
“Did you bring me here alone?”
“You’re too heavy for me to carry, and I couldn’t find your teammates in time. Luckily, there was a very tall girl who helped me take you to the hospital, but she had to leave. The doctor said you just had a stomach chill that weakened your immunity. Drink more hot water in the future.” Ji Yunuo answered word by word, but showed no intention of leaving.
“Then let me pay you back for the medical fees.”
“No need.” A cold glint flashed in Ji Yunuo’s eyes. “I just want to ask were you surprised to see me earlier?”
“Oh?” Xiao Yanjin brazenly retorted, “Weren’t you surprised to see me too?”
Ji Yunuo paused, feeling that talking to this person was truly troublesome. “Don’t tell my family about me joining the talent show.”
“Why?” So this was why she hadn’t left.
“You ask too many questions.”
Xiao Yanjin sat up. “I want to know the answer.”
Ji Yunuo fell silent for a moment, just staring coldly at her. An Omega’s aloofness was always piercing, and Xiao Yanjin shuddered, quickly shaking her head. “Fine, I won’t ask.”
“Let me ask you something, if this is my dream, would you think it’s strange?” She suddenly tilted her head, her tone softening in an instant.
Xiao Yanjin shivered again. This Omega’s temperament was so bizarre, her voice alternating between cold and gentle, yet always striking a chord, as if plucking at your heartstrings.
Xiao Yanjin didn’t show any odd expression, though inwardly she wondered how a rich young lady’s dream could be something like this.
“Not at all. No one should mock anyone’s dream, no matter how strange or outrageous.” Xiao Yanjin thought for a moment before giving a simple reply.
Ji Yunuo’s slightly tense expression relaxed, and she smiled politely. “You’re quite good with words.”
The first season of “Goddess 101” had been wildly popular that year. Back then, Ji Yunuo was only seventeen. Because her cousin had also participated in the show, she watched it all the way through seriously.
Ji Yunuo felt she had no dreams of her own. The many skills she’d learned as a child were just additions made one by one by her family elders, things a socialite ought to have, not necessarily interests or hobbies.
They told her she must become a refined lady from a noble family, they said she must embody the grace of a wealthy heiress, as the daughter of the richest man, no mistakes were permitted. Yet no one ever asked her, “What do you want to be?”
Lost, she questioned herself, what do you truly love?
Then she saw over a hundred girls showcasing their talents on stage. Their dancing, their singing everything captivated her. The spotlight on stage shone like stars in the sky, filling her with boundless yearning.
Suddenly, she realized, she loved the cheers of fans in the audience. She loved being adored.
With the talent show approaching like a dream, she couldn’t wait any longer.
“Fine, I won’t tell anyone. But why didn’t you ask if I’m joining the show too?” Xiao Yanjin blinked.
Ji Yunuo stared at her impassively. She hadn’t asked simply because she disliked gossip. Besides, she doubted Xiao could make it in.
“So why are you joining?” Ji Yunuo tilted her head slightly, voice soft.
“Because my boss forced me!” Xiao Yanjin huffed indignantly.
Ji Yunuo: “?” Though confused, she smiled faintly anyway.
Xiao Yanjin paused. Though the smile didn’t seem entirely genuine, it was inexplicably beautiful like a spring breeze.
“Enough talk. I’m heading back.” Ji Yunuo stood up.
“Wait.”
“What now?”
“I…” Xiao Yanjin feigned shyness, “I don’t have any money on me. Sister Nuo, if it’s not too much trouble…could you give me a ride home?”
Ji Yunuo: “…”
She didn’t know why she agreed. Now in the car, Xiao Yanjin chattered nonstop from the passenger seat.
Why…was she so talkative?!
“Why not call my parents to pick me up? Then you could leave.”
“I don’t have their numbers.”
“Then ask your mom to contact them?”
“I don’t want to tell them.”
“Why not?”
Ji Yunuo pressed her lips together. This chatterbox would drive her mad eventually, but her upbringing forbade her from snapping “shut up.”
“Ah!” Xiao Yanjin suddenly exclaimed.
Suppressing irritation, Ji Yunuo asked, “What now?”
“There’s an ice cream stand! It looks amazing. Sister Nuo, could we stop so I can get one?”
“Hmm…what?” Ji Yunuo turned sharply. “What did you call me?”
“Sister Nuo~”
Shameless. Ji Yunuo clenched her teeth.
“But you have no money.”
“You do.”
“Why would I pay for you?”
“Consider it payment for calling you ‘Sister Nuo’?” Xiao Yanjin put on a pitiful pout. Admittedly, her inherited looks were dangerously persuasive her smile sweet, her pout even sweeter, enough to soften anyone.
But Ji Yunuo wasn’t one to be swayed. Still, she bought the ice cream just to stop the incessant chatter.
“Don’t expect this again.” Ji Yunuo handed her cash. She wasn’t stingy, just disliked transactional favors.
“Thanks, Sister Nuo!” Xiao Yanjin chirped sweetly before darting out excitedly.
Watching her go, Ji Yunuo suddenly thought maybe this girl wasn’t so bad after all.
