Forced to Live Together After Picking Up the Child of My Rival Alpha - Chapter 9
Song Yuan slept restlessly, every turn making her aware of the unusual scent lingering in the room.
In her drowsy state, she faintly recognized the fragrance it felt familiar, as if she had encountered it somewhere before.
Caught between dreams and wakefulness, influenced by the pheromones, fragmented images surfaced in her mind wild and alluring, pulling her into their depths.
A woman whose face remained blurred was held in her embrace, the white silk spaghetti strap dress tugged down to reveal jade-like arms, a slender neck, and delicate collarbones, all laid bare.
They clung to each other in a kiss, her expression fiercer than ever, tinged with the husky rasp of intoxication, as she murmured “Yu Jin” over and over again.
Yu Jin?!
The name jolted Song Yuan awake.
She snapped her eyes open, sat up clutching her chest, and pushed aside the thin blanket, her gaze dazed as she tried to recall the vivid scenes.
Was that a wet dream?
And with Yu Jin of all people?!
How could she have such an absurd dream? Was she tired of living?
Song Yuan slapped her own cheek sharply, forcing herself to sober up, her breathing gradually steadying.
Just as she was about to lie back down, the familiar pheromones wafted faintly to her nostrils again, growing increasingly potent, making her cheeks flush and her heart race.
It wasn’t a dream?!
Whose pheromones were these then?
Aside from her and Luoluo in the suite, that left only.
But thinking of Yu Jin’s usual aloof demeanor, it was hard to imagine her in the throes of a heat cycle.
Song Yuan shuddered, cutting off her own speculation. She got out of bed and followed the scent outside, “Mmm…”
Low, muffled groans drifted intermittently from Yu Jin’s room.
At that, Song Yuan could no longer deceive herself.
It really was Yu Jin. She stood awkwardly outside the door, unsure how to handle the situation without making it even more uncomfortable.
As she hesitated, the intense pheromones emanating from Yu Jin seeped under the door, stirring a flicker of concern in Song Yuan.
Even though Yu Jin usually seemed like a ticking time bomb, she couldn’t just abandon her in a critical moment like this.
The pheromones grew heavier, intensifying instead of fading.
Song Yuan wavered outside, debating whether she should go in and check.
Suddenly, another agonized groan came from inside, followed by the sound of glass shattering on the floor.
Without a second thought, Song Yuan knocked twice.
Silence fell within.
“It’s me, Yu Jin,” Song Yuan called out.
Separated by the door, Yu Jin was inside, crouched on the floor, bracing herself with both hands.
“What is it?”
Her voice was clearly strained through gritted teeth, feigning composure.
Song Yuan knew that without relief or suppression, a heat cycle could be excruciating.
After a moment’s hesitation, she spoke up, “Professor Yu, do you need any help?”
Yu Jin’s face was flushed red, her pheromones raging as if ready to explode within her, yet she insisted, “No.”
Frowning, Song Yuan considered Yu Jin’s stubborn pride and softened her tone patiently, “I mean, do you want me to take you to the hospital?”
Right now, Yu Jin was like a tinderbox ready to ignite, and Song Yuan’s gentle words felt like a teasing caress against her heart.
All she heard was: Do you want me?
The pheromones inside Yu Jin screamed in response: Yes, she wanted, desperately wanted her.
After several bouts of painful struggle, Yu Jin’s rationality ultimately prevailed.
She struggled to get up and, using her last ounce of strength, rushed into the bathroom. The icy water from the showerhead poured down over her head.
Song Yuan, hearing the frantic commotion from the other side of the door, couldn’t help but feel concerned. “Professor Yu, are you alright?”
Only silence answered her from the room.
“Yu Jin? Are you okay? Can you hear me?”
Still, there was no response from inside.
Worried, Song Yuan thought about knocking on the door, but Luo Luo’s nursery was right next door. Hesitating for a moment, she decided to fetch the spare key, unlocked the door, and rushed in.
But the room was empty, with only the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.
Standing awkwardly outside the bathroom door, Song Yuan knocked politely. “Yu Jin? Do you need me to get an inhibitor?”
She repeated her question several times, but there was still no answer from inside.
Growing increasingly anxious and sensing something was wrong, Song Yuan steeled herself and pushed open the glass door to the bathroom.
The white bathtub was overflowing with cold water, the faucet still gushing relentlessly.
Yu Jin’s bathrobe was half-open, her body completely submerged in the tub.
She had always been strikingly beautiful and delicate, especially her eyes, which now looked misty and alluring. Her body trembled from the cold water.
Seeing the usually aloof and proud Yu Jin lying so vulnerable before her, Song Yuan felt an inexplicable pang in her heart.
But the pheromones in the air were somehow, familiar?
Shaking her head, Song Yuan bent down, placed her hands under Yu Jin’s knees, and mustered her strength to lift her out of the water.
With the last shred of her rationality, Yu Jin weakly pushed her away. “Get away from me!”
“Don’t be stubborn now!”
It took a great deal of effort for Song Yuan to finally carry the drenched Yu Jin to the bed.
Yu Jin, sensing something amiss, opened her eyes groggily.
Memories of past humiliation resurfaced, and she pushed Song Yuan away angrily, her eyes red-rimmed and narrowed, her lips slightly parted as she murmured something.
“What did you say?”
Unable to make out her words, Song Yuan leaned in closer to hear.
From above, Yu Jin’s disheveled hair, the graceful curve of her neck, and her fair skin, illuminated by the dim, hazy light.
It looked like an invitation.
No! I can’t.
A voice in Song Yuan’s head protested, but her hand had already moved uncontrollably, gently stroking behind Yu Jin’s ear. Her actions grew increasingly unrestrained.
Just as their lips were about to meet, Yu Jin seemed to snap back to her senses and, mustering all her strength, kicked Song Yuan away.
Caught off guard, Song Yuan tumbled off the bed.
“Ouch!”
The pain from the fall jolted Song Yuan back to her senses.
What had she just done?
Instinctively, she tried to defend herself. “I’m sorry, I was just trying to help.” The last few words were spoken with extreme guilt.
“Get out! Go get me an inhibitor!”
Yu Jin practically screamed the words.
Song Yuan slapped her forehead. How could she have been so, distracted?
As an alpha, Song Yuan also experienced heat cycles and usually kept inhibitors on hand.
Rushing back to fetch the inhibitor, Song Yuan’s face burned with embarrassment. She wished she could dig a hole and bury herself.
How could she have been so weak-willed?
How would she face Yu Jin tomorrow, or ever again?
Even though rumors circulated that Song Yuan had no preferences when it came to alphas or omegas and would take anyone.
But only she herself knew the truth because of the numerous scandals in recent years and the severe online bullying, she had subconsciously developed a fear of omegas. Even during her heat cycles, she mostly relied on suppressants to get by.
Yet today, she found herself uncontrollably drawn to an alpha’s pheromones.
Song Yuan gradually drifted into a daze. Could it be because Yu Jin was just too alluring now?
She couldn’t shake the feeling that this scent was strangely familiar and that she had an overwhelming urge to get closer to her.
The moment her fingers touched the suppressant syringe, her rationality briefly returned.
Annoyed, Song Yuan slapped her forehead. She must be bewitched! She was an alpha herself, yet Yu Jin had captivated her and she was getting lost in these pointless thoughts, almost losing her mind entirely.
Left alone in the room, Yu Jin’s heat spiraled out of control, her pheromones skyrocketing.
Heaven knew, those few touches from Song Yuan had awakened every dormant factor within her, like an unexpected spring suddenly appearing in a parched desert.
She needed her too so desperately that she could hardly wait.
But the face of the person above her was hazy, and today’s Song Yuan gradually overlapped with the Song Yuan from five years ago.
Memories resurfaced.
She didn’t want to be ignored again, wallowing in self-pity like a pitiful, abandoned woman.
So, fighting against the turmoil inside her, the moment Song Yuan leaned in to kiss her, Yu Jin mustered all her strength and kicked her away.
Physical pain overwhelmed her mind, and it was only when the needle pierced her skin that Yu Jin slightly opened her eyes.
After administering the injection, Song Yuan sat on the edge of the bed, observing Yu Jin’s condition. Enduring the heat for so long must have been unbearable.
As the medication circulated through her body, clarity gradually returned to Yu Jin’s eyes.
For no apparent reason, she felt a surge of anger.
If it had been Wei Yang living with her, or if someone else had collapsed in the bathroom today, would she have wanted to kiss them just like tonight?
Unaware of her complicated thoughts, Song Yuan breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Yu Jin returning to normal. “I’m glad you’re okay. I’ll take my leave now.”
Yu Jin stared at her coldly. “Don’t you dare speak of what happened tonight.”
Song Yuan, who had been about to leave, paused, her expression hesitant.
Still unsettled by what had just happened, Yu Jin asked, “What’s wrong?”
Finally, Song Yuan voiced her confusion. “With your qualities, why haven’t you found an omega?”
Find an omega?
Yu Jin scoffed inwardly. Her life had been turned upside down by that one night with Song Yuan five years ago, and now she had the audacity to ask why she hadn’t found an omega?
Song Yuan immediately regretted her question when she saw Yu Jin’s face darken instantly.
Yu Jin’s voice was icy. “Get out! It’s none of your business.”
Confused, Song Yuan wondered if she had stepped on another landmine.
She had sacrificed her precious sleep to take care of her, and instead of a word of thanks, she was being kicked out!
How ungrateful! Furious and hurt, she stormed back to her room.
Back in her room, Song Yuan vented her anger by punching her pillow as if it were Yu Jin. Taking a deep breath, she muttered, “I can’t get angry. It’ll give me wrinkles.”
Before falling asleep, she thought bitterly, Her temper is so awful, it must be because no one wants her, causing hormonal imbalances and making her heat cycles so severe and her moods so unpredictable!
In the early morning, the air away from the city carried a faint sweetness.
As per the production team’s requirements, the cameraman had set up the equipment early in the courtyard.
Song Yuan woke up with dark circles under her eyes and immediately ran into Yu Jin, who was washing up.
Yu Jin wore a gloomy expression, clearly signaling that she wanted to be left alone.
Song Yuan decided to avoid her for the entire day. She hurried back to her room to apply an eye mask and only went out to wash up after confirming that Yu Jin had left.
No matter what, she absolutely wouldn’t provoke this difficult person again!
Under the persimmon tree, the three families each sat on one side.
Wei Yang brought the last side dish to the table, clapped his hands, and called out to everyone, “Let’s have breakfast! The congee today was made by Ah Yuan and me.”
Song Yuan found his wording a bit odd but could only force a smile. Wei Yang had washed the rice but said he couldn’t gauge the right consistency for the congee, so he’d asked her to add the water to the pot. Well, it could barely count as cooking together.
The breakfast proceeded in a seemingly harmonious atmosphere.
Of course, this was merely the harmonious ambiance enhanced by the post-production team’s special effects.
In reality, when Song Yuan and Yu Jin went to serve themselves rice, they accidentally reached for the same rice ladle at the same time. Song Yuan reflexively let go of the ladle, skipped serving herself, and ran outside to wash the utensil.
Later, as everyone gathered around the table to eat, they exchanged polite greetings, creating an appearance of harmony. In truth, not a single unnecessary word passed between Song Yuan and Yu Jin.
