- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 7 - Little Handsome Boy
Inside the bedroom, only a small nightlight glowed by the head of the bed.
Fang Zhiyou couldn’t sleep. He sat on the edge of the mattress and pulled open the bottom drawer of the nightstand.
There wasn’t much inside, just a few old certificates, a messy assortment of trinkets, and a hardbound photo album tucked at the very bottom.
Fang Zhiyou hesitated for a moment, as if gathering his courage, before brushing the other items aside and pulling the album out.
The album looked a bit worn, evidence of how many times he had flipped through it over the past seven years.
It was filled with photos of him and Liang Yanxiu.
There were candid shots taken on the tree-lined paths at school, photos from their graduation ceremony, and many more everyday snapshots, almost all of which had been taken secretly by Liang Yanxiu.
The final photo was taken in their rented apartment, showing Liang Yanxiu kneeling on the floor, proposing to him.
Looking at his younger self in the photo, Fang Zhiyou felt a sense of trance.
His fingers slowly traced Liang Yanxiu’s face in the picture, but his mind was filled with the image from a few hours ago, the Alpha looking at him with cold eyes in the night breeze.
Even though he had prepared himself, told himself they were now strangers, seeing those eyes, once filled with nothing but tenderness and smiles for him, now filled with nothing but indifference, still cut deep.
Fang Zhiyou closed the album, let out a heavy sigh, and let his shoulders slump.
He finally admitted, in a moment of weakness, that he didn’t have the courage. He couldn’t accept Liang Yanxiu’s coldness.
That wasn’t his Liang Yanxiu.
Liang Yanxiu would never look at him that way.
“Mmm, mmm.”
Fang Leyun began to whimper softly under the covers. Fang Zhiyou hurried to shove the album back into the drawer and shut it.
He turned over to scoop Fang Leyun up, touching the boy’s cheek, it felt a bit cool.
He checked his hands and feet, which were still nice and warm.
He gently shook Fang Leyun awake. “Guoguo, do you need to pee?”
Fang Leyun rubbed his eyes with his little fists and grumbled for a while before answering in a soft, milky voice, “Mhm.”
Fang Zhiyou stood up with him in his arms, headed to the bathroom, and sat Fang Leyun on the toilet.
“Alright, go ahead.”
Fang Leyun blinked sleepily. After he finished, Fang Zhiyou helped him clean up, wiped his bottom, and carried him back to the bedroom.
With the interruption from his son, Fang Zhiyou’s melancholy mood dissipated.
The exhaustion from a long day of busyness finally hit him like a tidal wave. Almost as soon as his head touched the pillow, he fell fast asleep.
The next morning, Fang Zhiyou didn’t wake up until after seven.
Opening his eyes, he saw Fang Leyun sitting nearby in his pajamas, clutching a little knitted bear. His chubby fingers were poking at a picture book as he clumsily tried to read the story.
Fang Zhiyou rolled over, grabbed his phone from the nightstand, and squinted at the trending topics for a while.
Finally, he felt fully awake.
He sat up and pulled Fang Leyun into his arms.
“How far did you get?”
Fang Leyun poked the book. “Ultraman ran out of battery.”
Fang Leyun had read this picture book at least twenty times, yet every time felt like the first.
He got especially anxious whenever Ultraman lost power after being beaten by a monster.
He wished he could poke a hole through the monster with his finger to help Ultraman.
As a result, the monster’s face in the hardcover book had been poked so many times it was barely recognizable.
“It’s okay, the citizens will use their car lights to give Ultraman more energy.”
Fang Zhiyou hoisted his son onto his shoulder, walked through the bedroom door, and carried him into the bathroom.
“Let’s wash your face and brush your teeth, then we’ll go to Grandma’s for red bean porridge.”
Fang Leyun’s mood brightened. He stood on a stool, just barely reaching the sink.
Clutching his Ultraman toothbrush, he bared his teeth and began to brush.
After that, Fang Zhiyou tucked the boy under his arm and washed his face with one hand.
Then, he applied some fragrant baby cream to his cheeks and hands.
“Smells good.”
Fang Leyun loved the magnolia scent of the cream. Every time it was applied, he had to comment on how good it smelled.
Fang Zhiyou pinched his little cheek. “Do you need to go pee-pee?”
Fang Leyun shook his head.
Fang Zhiyou changed his clothes before opening the front door. “Go knock.”
Fang Leyun pattered over, and after only two knocks, the door opposite them opened.
Grandma Zhang scooped Fang Leyun up and brought him inside.
Fang Zhiyou emptied the trash cans, left the bags by the door, and then walked into Grandma Zhang’s home.
As soon as he entered, he was greeted by the rich aroma of red bean porridge.
“Quick, wash your hands, it’s time to eat!”
Fang Leyun emerged from the bathroom wearing a festive little red vest over his clothes.
“Daddy! Grandma sewed a little vest for me!”
Fang Zhiyou played along perfectly. “Wow, where did this little handsome boy come from?”
Sure enough, the little show-off immediately beamed with joy.
Humming a nursery rhyme, he trotted off to the kitchen to find his Grandma Zhang.
