- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 6 - Grandma Zhang's House
The electric scooter came to a stop downstairs at exactly eight o’clock in the evening.
Fang Zhiyou pulled out the key and took off his helmet, placing it in the front basket. After delivering his last order, he had picked up a basket of fruit on his way back. Grandma Zhang was getting older and didn’t move around much, but she loved eating fruit. Fang Zhiyou bought it for her often, ensuring the fruit bowl on her table was always full.
“Knock, knock, knock,”
Fang Zhiyou knocked three times, and immediately heard the sound of “pitter-patter” footsteps coming from inside.
“Click.”
The door opened, revealing Fang Leyun’s round face, which was beaming with a wide smile.
“Daddy’s back!”
Fang Zhiyou set the fruit basket on the ground and pulled his slippers out from the shoe rack to change into them. Fang Leyun had missed him dearly and circled around him like a little puppy.
Fang Zhiyou smiled and rubbed the boy’s head. “Were you a good boy at Grandma’s today?”
As he spoke, he walked over to the table and began arranging the fruit in the bowl.
Grandma Zhang came out of the kitchen. “Xiao Fang, you’re back. Dinner just finished cooking.”
“Go wash your hands. Guoguo, go with your daddy to wash up, then we’ll all eat together.”
Fang Zhiyou crumpled up the plastic bags and tossed them into the trash before picking up Fang Leyun and carrying him into the bathroom to wash their hands.
Dinner consisted of Chinese yam and pork rib soup served with hot dry noodles. The table was filled with rising steam. Grandma Zhang helped Fang Leyun put on his small apron and served him a small bowl of the noodles.
“Eat slowly now.”
Fang Leyun ate voraciously, then gave Grandma Zhang a big thumbs up, providing plenty of emotional value.
“It smells so good!”
Grandma Zhang chuckled, clearly delighted. “Oh, as long as it tastes good. If Guoguo likes it, Grandma will make it for you again tomorrow!”
Fang Zhiyou smiled. “Auntie, don’t spoil him so much. He’ll eat just about anything.”
Grandma Zhang beamed at him. “Xiao Fang, you should eat more too. Look at how thin you’ve become. Eat up, try to get chubby and festive-looking like our Guoguo. Having you both here gives me a reason to enjoy cooking. Even the food tastes better this way.”
Grandma Zhang wiped Guoguo’s mouth. “Guoguo, do you want to have salt and pepper shrimp tomorrow? Grandma will make some for you.”
Fang Leyun dropped his chopsticks and immediately threw himself into Grandma Zhang’s arms.
“Ah, I love Grandma the most!”
This prompted Grandma Zhang to pull him into a series of affectionate kisses.
Seeing the sweet bond between the two made Fang Zhiyou happy. He finished his bowl of noodles and was only allowed to stop after Grandma Zhang insisted he drink a bowl of the yam and rib soup.
Once he had eaten his fill, Fang Zhiyou got up to wash the dishes. Meanwhile, Grandma Zhang held Fang Leyun as they sat at the small table to look through a picture book.
Coming out of the kitchen, Fang Zhiyou watched his son’s upright little posture and couldn’t help but compare him to Liang Yanxiu. Their noses were the same, their mouths were the same, and even their eyes were identical. The son he gave birth to was practically carved from the same mold as Liang Yanxiu.
It wasn’t a good feeling.
Grandma Zhang came out of the bedroom and saw Fang Zhiyou staring at Guoguo in a daze. She walked over, looking concerned.
“What’s wrong? Did the doctor say something else?”
Fang Zhiyou shook his head. “No.”
Grandma Zhang sat down next to Fang Leyun with some knitting needles, measuring the yarn against him.
“The temperature is going to drop in a few days. I noticed Guoguo only has those thermal undershirts. Those clothes look warm, but they don’t actually hold heat well. Sweaters and wool leggings are much better. Besides, how can store-bought clothes compare to something hand-knitted at home? Guoguo, what kind of pattern do you want? Grandma will knit one for you.”
Fang Leyun looked at the drawings Grandma Zhang showed him and pointed to an apple. “I want Guoguo (fruit).”
“Alright, Grandma will knit a big red apple for our Guoguo.”
After looking at the picture book for a while, Fang Leyun began to get sleepy. While Fang Zhiyou and Grandma Zhang were talking, the boy crawled into Fang Zhiyou’s arms and sat on his lap, falling fast asleep just like that.
Fang Zhiyou held him gently. By half past nine, Grandma Zhang was getting tired as well and began nudging them to leave.
“Hurry on back. Don’t stay up late, get some sleep early. Come over tomorrow morning; I’ve been soaking red beans all afternoon to make red bean porridge for you.”
Guoguo’s warm little face was pressed against Fang Zhiyou’s chest, sleeping soundly.
Fang Zhiyou carried him out of Grandma Zhang’s house, and within two steps, he was at his own front door. He opened it and stepped inside.
Once Guoguo fell asleep, he was very quiet and nearly impossible to wake up. Fang Zhiyou changed him into his pajamas and tucked him under the covers.
He sat on the living room sofa scrolling through short videos for half an hour before slowly getting up to take a hot shower. After drying his hair, he finally headed back to the bedroom.
