- Fighting For My Wife With Myself After Being Reborn
- Chapter 9 - Human Desire is Never-Ending
“Shen Huaixu” suspected she was being targeted; otherwise, how could she explain why the timing of her awakening was always so unfortunate?
Gu Yinghuai, having been drunk and mischievous all night, was now like a clump of strawberry mochi that had been bullied mercilessly. She curled up limp in her arms, the flush on her cheeks not yet fully faded, looking both pitiful and adorable.
We meet again. “Shen Huaixu” reached out her hand. She felt as if she were touching a unique and peerless treasure in this world; her fingertips hovered cautiously in mid-air, tracing the exquisite and lovely features of the person in her arms.
The thin, arched eyebrows, the thick black eyelashes, and the perky, delicate nose—and beneath that nose was the pink mouth that “Shen Huaixu” could never kiss enough.
Those lips tasted of strawberry.
The initial taste was icy and cool, followed immediately by a fiery heat mingled with the sweet-and-sour fruitiness of strawberry.
“Shen Huaixu” discovered, quite tragically, how much she missed the feeling of kissing Gu Yinghuai.
She missed Gu Yinghuai’s smile, her kisses, and her embrace. She was willing to pay any price to exchange for even a mere thirty-second hug with Gu Yinghuai.
She was going crazy with longing.
By the grace of heaven, “Shen Huaixu” had been lucky enough to meet Gu Yinghuai again after losing her.
She should have been satisfied. She ought to have been satisfied.
But humans are truly greedy, insatiable bastards, aren’t they?
Once desire receives even a sliver of satisfaction—even something as tiny as a speck of dust—one begins to want more.
“Shen Huaixu” was a bastard.
After several brief embraces, she was unwilling to stop there with Gu Yinghuai.
She wanted to possess Gu Yinghuai exclusively.
The arm wrapped around Gu Yinghuai’s waist tightened bit by bit. The increasing force hurt the person in her arms; the originally deep sleeper furrowed her brows as if woken by a jolt of pain. Her crow-feather lashes trembled slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her charming apricot eyes were thick with sleep. Gu Yinghuai squinted, seeing Shen Huaixu staring directly at her, those silver-gray eyes filled with emotions Gu Yinghuai couldn’t decipher.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Drowsiness held the high ground as Gu Yinghuai mumbled her concern, looking as though she might fall back asleep the next second.
“It’s nothing. I just wanted to look at you a few more times.” “Shen Huaixu” stroked Gu Yinghuai’s cheek and soothed her in a soft voice, “Don’t worry, I’ll go to sleep in a moment.”
Gu Yinghuai rubbed against her palm, making a little cat-like purring sound. “Look at me tomorrow then… it’s not like I’m going to run away.”
Tomorrow. Would she even have a tomorrow?
She didn’t even know the reason why she could briefly occupy this body. She only knew that occasionally in the deep of night, she could appear for a short time but could not remain conscious for long. This body would issue an alarm when she tried to stay awake, forcing her into a deep slumber until the next late night.
“Shen Huaixu” couldn’t even appear every night; she could only wait anxiously in the darkness for the next opportunity.
Endless despair submerged “Shen Huaixu,” and sadness was about to overflow from her eyes. She pinched Gu Yinghuai’s chin, forcing her to lift her head. “Let me kiss you once,” “Shen Huaixu” said, and then she pressed her lips against Gu Yinghuai’s.
“Shen Huaixu” finally tasted the strawberry she had long yearned for.
Gu Yinghuai was too sleepy to open her eyes, but she could clearly feel the thick sorrow emanating from her girlfriend. She responded to this kiss—a kiss filled with a tart, salty flavor—trying to comfort her girlfriend’s grieving emotions.
I’ll have to ask Xu properly tomorrow what exactly happened, Gu Yinghuai thought dizzily before falling completely asleep.
The kiss lost its response, and the tip of her tongue lost the pleasure of the chase. “Shen Huaixu” ended the kiss lingeringly, the ambiguous silver threads stretching and breaking between their parting lips and tongues.
She gave Gu Yinghuai’s soft, sweet lips one last light peck.
I have to find a way to replace myself, “Shen Huaixu” thought groggily before falling into total slumber. I wonder if the “big gift” I left behind will be discovered…
I hope she likes it.
“Shen Huaixu” looked forward immensely to the day her gift was discovered.
The next day was an overcast day, the air thick with the dampness and scent that precedes a heavy rain.
The sky was very dark, the asphalt road appeared blacker than usual, and the leaves were dim, swaying in the strong wind and making a rustling sound.
Gu Yinghuai and Shen Huaixu yawned simultaneously in the dining room.
After a night’s sleep, Shen Huaixu was surprised to find she was more tired than usual. Her eyes felt heavy, and her eyelids felt as if they were glued shut.
She had even nearly ruined a fried egg today! This was a horrifying turn of events.
“Xu, have you encountered anything strange lately?” Gu Yinghuai asked tentatively while eating breakfast, remembering Shen Huaixu’s strange kiss and sadness from last night.
Shen Huaixu was absent-mindedly cutting her steak. Upon hearing Gu Yinghuai’s words, she stopped her hand in confusion and tilted her head to look at her. “No. Why do you ask?”
Work was as usual, and life was sweet. Shen Huaixu was extremely satisfied with her current life; why would Huai ask her such a question?
“Ah, because you seem very sleepy lately. I was worried if you had run into something that was keeping you up, and you weren’t telling me, carrying the burden yourself.” Gu Yinghuai pouted, pretending to be angry. She looked directly into Shen Huaixu’s eyes and said, “I’m worried about you.”
Shen Huaixu put down her knife and fork, resting her chin on one hand as she looked at Gu Yinghuai thoughtfully.
Her intuition told her that this wasn’t Gu Yinghuai’s true objective, but the concern in her words wasn’t fake; she could feel the care from Gu Yinghuai through those flickering eyes.
Under Shen Huaixu’s prolonged gaze, Gu Yinghuai gradually began to feel guilty.
Could Xu have noticed I’m lying? Gu Yinghuai’s eyes flickered even more. As if to hide her guilt, she asked fiercely, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Are you thinking of how to brush me off?”
“How could I?” Shen Huaixu feigned shock. “Huai, saying that breaks my heart. How could I ever brush you off?”
“But you aren’t saying a word, you’re just staring at me,” Gu Yinghuai said, quite dissatisfied.
Because I can’t figure out what’s happening to me that I don’t even know about myself, Shen Huaixu sighed inwardly.
“I think it’s probably because there’s been a lot of work lately. You know Jiang Rui is a real slave-driver; she definitely won’t let go of any chance to exploit me.” Thinking of that incredibly long schedule, Shen Huaixu seriously suspected that Jiang Rui was the reason for her recent lack of sleep.
Shen Huaixu made a pitiful expression toward Gu Yinghuai. “Huai, you should talk to Jiang Rui too. She needs to understand the balance between work and rest. You can’t make the donkey do all the work without letting it rest!”
“Fine, fine, I’ll definitely talk to Jiang Rui.” Gu Yinghuai knew that even if she spoke up, it wouldn’t matter since she wasn’t the one paying Jiang Rui’s salary, but a girlfriend always needs to be coaxed.
And didn’t Shen Huaixu know that? She just wanted Gu Yinghuai to coax her.
“It’ll be fine once this busy period is over. Alright, eat quickly, or the steak will get cold.”
“Mhm.”
The topic of insomnia was dropped. After finishing breakfast, the two stood side-by-side, arms touching, at the sink to wash the dishes.
Gu Yinghuai’s body temperature was slightly higher than Shen Huaixu’s. The cool skin gradually melted under the high heat of the “little furnace” beside her.
One side of Shen Huaixu’s body felt numb and tingly, her heart itching with longing. She could smell the scent of lemon dish soap mixed with the faint perfume on Gu Yinghuai’s body.
It was like the first ray of dawn in spring, or sunlight piercing through the layered leaves of a forest—indescribably warm.
Shen Huaixu turned her head to look at her. Gu Yinghuai was seriously washing the dishes she had used, her slender, fair fingers covered in bubbles as she wiped in circles.
I really want to kiss her.
She wanted to, so she did.
Shen Huaixu bent down slightly and captured Gu Yinghuai’s lips.
She saw Gu Yinghuai’s eyes widen in surprise, her slightly dilated pupils reflecting Shen Huaixu’s smiling eyes.
The only sounds in the kitchen were the running water from the faucet and the sticky, sweet sound of breathing during the kiss.
“Don’t… we’re going to be late.” The clock on the living room wall chimed right on time. The ambiguous atmosphere in the kitchen vanished instantly, replaced by Gu Yinghuai’s determination not to lose her perfect attendance bonus.
She raised her elbow to push Shen Huaixu, who clearly didn’t want to let go, her neck stretching backward in an attempt to dodge the lips chasing after her.
Seeing Gu Yinghuai’s lips getting further away, Shen Huaixu ended the kiss with regret.
“The lipstick is smudged,” Gu Yinghuai said, pointing at the corner of Shen Huaixu’s mouth.
Shen Huaixu nonchalantly licked away the lipstick that had blurred outward.
It was clearly just a normal action, yet Gu Yinghuai suddenly remembered the previous night in the bathroom. Shen Huaixu had propped herself up with her hand, her silver-gray eyes staring straight at her as her vivid red tongue slowly licked away the water trace near her mouth.
As for the source of that water trace…
The moment Gu Yinghuai thought of it, her face turned bright red.
“Come back to earth.” Shen Huaixu looked at the obviously distracted Gu Yinghuai with amusement. She waved her hand in front of Gu Yinghuai’s eyes and teased, “What are you thinking about? Your face is so red.”
“No—nothing!” Gu Yinghuai dodged Shen Huaixu’s reaching hand. She suddenly found the unwashed plates in the sink extremely interesting and lowered her head to scrub them vigorously.
“Let me do it. Go touch up your lipstick first.” Shen Huaixu snatched the plate from her hand, rinsed off the bubbles, and urged Gu Yinghuai to fix her makeup.
“Eh? Okay, thank you for the hard work, Xu!” Gu Yinghuai lightly brushed against Shen Huaixu’s calf, then ran laughing toward the bathroom before Shen Huaixu could shake the bubbles off her hands to chase her.
There were several lipsticks kept in the bathroom.
Last time after Shen Huaixu filmed a lipstick advertisement, R&B had sent a whole series of lipsticks to her as a small gift.
Shen Huaixu couldn’t use that many, so she randomly threw a few in each bathroom in case she was in too much of a rush to find one before leaving.
Gu Yinghuai picked the same shade Shen Huaixu was wearing.
She leaned forward toward the mirror. In the reflection, the lipstick she had applied in the morning had been mostly “eaten” by Shen Huaixu, but some had smudged outside her lip line during the kiss.
It looked as if she had been loved very fiercely.
Only then did Gu Yinghuai realize that the lipstick remaining on Shen Huaixu’s lips had been “stolen” from her.
Having realized the reason, the person in the mirror turned red with shame once again.
