- Chapter 30.1 - A Date for the Little Couple
Wanting to “add an extra meal” to their date, Shen Huaixu truly feasted on Gu Yinghuai from the inside out that night. Afterward, she held the exhausted Gu Yinghuai in her arms and fell asleep, deeply satisfied.
After she fell asleep, “Shen Huaixu”—the second personality—took over the body and emerged.
Having not seen Gu Yinghuai for nearly two days, “Shen Huaixu” missed her desperately. Previously, she had been able to endure it alone, thinking she had long since grown accustomed to the loneliness and pain of Gu Yinghuai’s absence. But since meeting her again, she found her tolerance levels plummeting; now, she absolutely could not stand it when Gu Yinghuai wasn’t by her side.
“Shen Huaixu” never wanted to taste the bitterness of losing Gu Yinghuai ever again.
She stroked Gu Yinghuai’s hair and leaned down to kiss her forehead. The moment she lifted her head, her silver-gray eyes caught sight of the red marks on Gu Yinghuai’s body.
Seeing those traces, “Shen Huaixu” couldn’t help but curse herself for being a bastard.
What a scoundrel, she thought. She’s actually guarding against me.
Seeing Huai bullied to such an extent, it would be too animalistic for her to make another move. Truly, only she could know exactly how to prevent herself from taking a turn. Cursing her other self, “Shen Huaixu” tucked in the corners of the quilt for Gu Yinghuai and got out of bed.
A notebook sat on the bedside table.
This was strange. Shen Huaixu was not the type to keep a diary; buying a notebook and placing it by the bed was clearly not something she would do.
Could it be Huai’s?
No, if it were Gu Yinghuai’s, she wouldn’t leave it on Shen Huaixu’s side of the nightstand.
Driven by curiosity, “Shen Huaixu” opened the cover. On the first page, Shen Huaixu’s name was written. She was slightly surprised and turned to the next page.
She wanted to see what that “other” Shen Huaixu had written.
After reading the second page, “Shen Huaixu” felt she would have been better off not looking at all.
The entire page was filled with “fragrant” insults. Truly not human, Shen Huaixu—you’re ruthless enough to curse even yourself.
“Shen Huaixu” snapped the notebook shut, deciding to spare her eyes and brain from any further mental pollution for the moment.
“I thought I could keep it hidden for a few more days, but it seems the ‘gift’ I left behind was discovered.” “Shen Huaixu” recalled the things she had left in the memo app; they must have truly infuriated Shen Huaixu to the point of writing a whole page of curses.
How childish. “Shen Huaixu” grabbed a pen that had been set aside, reopened the notebook, and left a message.
[Hello there. Did you like the gift from last time? Don’t be so angry; we still have to get along for a long time to come. (Smile)]
Wanted to drive her away? In her dreams. Even in death, she would cling to Shen Huaixu and never leave this body.
“Shen Huaixu” closed the notebook. Given the state Gu Yinghuai was in, she wouldn’t be waking up tonight. Not wanting to waste this rare opportunity to be out, she went to the kitchen, brewed a cup of coffee, and sat by the floor-to-ceiling window to quietly enjoy the peaceful night that belonged to her.
She truly hoped things could stay like this forever. She gazed at the full moon outside, which was slowly emitting a cold moonlight, praying for a bit of mercy from the heavens.
The horizon gradually turned the color of a fish’s belly. The first ray of morning light hit Shen Huaixu’s face right on time, and she slowly opened her eyes in the bright but not piercing dawn.
The first thing she saw was the living room ceiling. The second was the floor-to-ceiling window with the curtains only half-drawn; the bright, gentle light was spilling in through that very gap.
Shen Huaixu propped herself up, the blanket covering her sliding down her chest.
Why did she end up sleeping here? Shouldn’t she be in bed, snuggling warmly with her Huai? Unless—
Shen Huaixu didn’t even need to think to know that her second personality had appeared last night.
She threw off the blanket. On the small side table lay a mug with half-finished coffee. Shen Huaixu frowned and took the cup to the kitchen to wash it.
That damn second personality. She didn’t finish her coffee, didn’t pour it out, didn’t wash the mug, and didn’t even clean the coffee machine—leaving the entire mess for her to clean up.
Shen Huaixu gritted her teeth as she cleaned up after herself.
Tonight, she was definitely going to write a few more insults in that notebook to vent her frustration, or her name wasn’t Shen Huaixu. But before that, she had to prepare a breakfast made with love.
By the time Gu Yinghuai woke up, a sweet aroma was wafting from outside the bedroom.
Gu Yinghuai suppressed her curiosity, brushed her teeth, and only then opened the bedroom door. As it happened, Shen Huaixu was standing right there, about to wake her up.
“You’re awake? I was just about to go in and call you for breakfast.” Shen Huaixu quickly stepped forward, wrapped her arms around Gu Yinghuai’s slender waist, and gave her a sweet morning kiss.
It really was sweet—carrying a fresh scent of fruit.
“What did you eat? It’s so sweet.” Gu Yinghuai licked her lips. The taste was familiar, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on what Shen Huaixu had eaten.
Shen Huaixu kissed her again, the sugary flavor lingering between their entwined lips.
“We ran out of jam, so I made a little,” Shen Huaixu said, leading Gu Yinghuai to the dining table. “Luckily there were a few strawberries left, otherwise my breakfast would have been defeated by a lack of jam.”
Gu Yinghuai sat down and understood what Shen Huaixu meant when she saw the toast on the table. Without jam, they would have been gnawing on plain bread.
As she spread the jam, Gu Yinghuai asked, “Don’t you have to work today?”
While Shen Huaixu’s job didn’t require a nine-to-five schedule like hers, she didn’t have fixed weekends either. Sometimes, while Gu Yinghuai was still sleeping on a Saturday, Shen Huaixu would already be out for work. It was rare to see her at home on a weekend, let alone making breakfast.
Shen Huaixu bit into the crispy edge of the toast and said, “Yesterday was the last of the work. Jiang Rui said I can take a good rest for a while. She wants to re-plan my career direction; the jobs I took before were too scattered, and she said it’s not good for my professional development.”
“Jiang Rui is right; a good plan is necessary.” Gu Yinghuai leaned back in her chair and let out a sound of envy. “Ah—I also want to live a life where I don’t have to work but still get paid.”
“Modeling is a career for the young. Who knows, maybe I’ll have to retire in a few years,” Shen Huaixu said teasingly. “When that time comes, I’ll just stay home to do the laundry and cooking, and I’ll deliver meals to you every day.”
Under the table, Gu Yinghuai gave her a kick.
“Stop it. I’ll probably retire before you do.” Gu Yinghuai didn’t believe her nonsense for a second; if Shen Huaixu were actually forced to stay at home, she might not even enjoy it.
“Are we staying home to watch TV today? Or do you want to go out for a walk?” Shen Huaixu lightly bypassed the sensitive topic. “I heard there’s a new movie out that seems pretty good. Want to go see it together?”
As long as they didn’t continue watching that “damn” variety show, anything was fine. Shen Huaixu really didn’t want to watch another dating show.
Gu Yinghuai: “Sure! I haven’t watched a movie with you in a long time. Let’s go this afternoon.”
Shen Huaixu: “Mhm. After breakfast, let’s get ready and head out. The seasons are changing, and I need to buy some new clothes too.”
Gu Yinghuai smiled: “Is this a date invitation?”
Shen Huaixu winked at her: “Coming?”
Gu Yinghuai: “I’m in!”
After breakfast, Shen Huaixu put on a slight disguise and went out shopping with Gu Yinghuai.
The mall was packed on the weekend. Residents and office workers who had been cooped up all week finally caught a break to relax, moving in small groups. Shen Huaixu and Gu Yinghuai blended into the crowd and didn’t look particularly out of place.
“There are so many people. Will we be recognized?” In the crowd, Gu Yinghuai uncomfortably pulled her mask up, avoiding the casual glances of passersby.
Shen Huaixu was charmed by her secretive behavior. She patted Gu Yinghuai’s head, pressing down lightly. “Silly, your girlfriend’s fame hasn’t reached that ‘national level’ yet. Even if you shouted my name out loud here, probably only a few people would recognize me.”
“Don’t press my head! I won’t grow any taller!” Gu Yinghuai crossly swatted the hand away and teased her, “And who was it last time who got photographed and posted on Weibo, forcing a public relationship announcement?”
Shen Huaixu defended herself, “That time I was set up. It doesn’t count. Let’s start over.”
“Blah, blah, blah—someone’s being a sore loser.” Gu Yinghuai giggled and teased Shen Huaixu, spinning around as she walked ahead.
As the crowd grew denser, the two had to hold hands tightly to keep from being separated.
“Let’s go look at clothes. I want to buy a few trench coats. Huai, give me your expert opinion,” Shen Huaixu said, pointing to a clothing store nearby.
