Fighting For My Wife With Myself After Being Reborn - Chapter 29
The next day, the two of them slept until the sun was high in the sky. It was ultimately a phone call from Jiang Rui that woke Shen Huaixu from her gentle slumber.
“What is it?” Shen Huaixu answered the phone irritably, covering Gu Yinghuai’s ears to keep her from being disturbed.
“You have the nerve to ask?” On the other end of the line, Jiang Rui seemed speechless. “My eldest miss, have you forgotten today’s schedule?”
Shen Huaixu racked her brain to remember. Just as Jiang Rui’s patience was about to run out, it came back to her.
“Oh, I remember now.” She let out a yawn, her fingers aimlessly brushing against Gu Yinghuai’s curled eyelashes. “Can’t I just not go? It’s not like it’s some crucial job anyway.”
Huai’s eyelashes are so beautiful, so curled and thick.
Jiang Rui spoke bluntly: “Impossible. Be at the office within half an hour, or don’t even think about having a day off for the next half month.”
Shen Huaixu: “…” That’s a threat.
“Got it. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.” Without waiting for Jiang Rui to respond, Shen Huaixu hung up first.
“I really don’t want to go to work.” Shen Huaixu’s voice was filled with a deep loathing for labor. She caressed Gu Yinghuai’s warm, soft cheek, then leaned down to kiss her forehead before reluctantly getting up to leave.
Before leaving the house, Shen Huaixu prepared a pot of seafood porridge in a clay pot and left a sticky note with a drawing of two little people kissing. With a long face, she headed out to work.
I really just want to stay and hold Huai all day. T.T
“The more you cooperate, the sooner we can wrap up. Today is Saturday, isn’t it? Finishing early means you can go back to accompany Yinghuai sooner.” Once at the company, Jiang Rui immediately dragged the late-arriving Shen Huaixu into the van and rushed to the filming location.
“I know.” Shen Huaixu sat in the back with her legs crossed, checking her phone from time to time to see if Gu Yinghuai had sent any messages.
Unfortunately, right up until her work began, Shen Huaixu’s phone received nothing from Gu Yinghuai.
There were only two appointments today.
The first was a cover shoot.
The fashion magazine CLAD was a rising star in recent years. Many models and famous celebrities in the industry had already graced its covers.
Shen Huaixu’s popularity had surged recently (mostly due to her love life). The editor-in-chief of CLAD had caught the scent of “traffic” and invited Shen Huaixu multiple times.
At first, Jiang Rui didn’t really want to accept. It wasn’t that CLAD wasn’t good, but rather that their style was a far cry from Shen Huaixu’s typical vibe. Jiang Rui didn’t want to take the risk.
But they simply offered too much money.
By the time she snapped out of it, Jiang Rui had already agreed.
The silence was deafening when Shen Huaixu, who had been “tricked” into coming, saw the clothes she had to change into.
“Are you sure you want me to shoot this?” Shen Huaixu’s fox-like eyes went wide. She likely hadn’t expected her illustrious reputation to be ruined by a single magazine cover.
Xu Le was snickering off to the side. It was a rare and novel sight to see Shen Huaixu looking so defeated.
Knowing she was in the wrong, Jiang Rui suppressed a smile and said, “Isn’t it good to try a new style once in a while?”
“Would you want this ‘blessing’ if it were offered to you?” Shen Huaixu grumbled, but nonetheless allowed the stylist to apply her makeup and fix her hair.
The style of CLAD was “feminine and petite.” Usually, the models or celebrities they invited were either quite small in stature or had a mature, charming temperament.
Shen Huaixu’s image in the public eye had always been cool and handsome or bright and generous. This was her first time trying a “softly feminine” style, and she wasn’t sure if the final result would look out of place.
The makeup artist was trying to use makeup to soften the sharpness and coldness in Shen Huaixu’s brows. Unfortunately, no matter how she applied the colors, Shen Huaixu’s silver-grey eyes always seemed to thwart her efforts.
Someone is using her features to challenge my livelihood. The makeup artist nearly snapped her eyebrow pencil. No, I cannot lose!
Her eyes burned with determination; she was bound and determined to succeed with this look.
Since softening wasn’t working, she would play to her strengths instead!
No sooner said than done, the makeup artist picked up her tools again and went to work on Shen Huaixu’s face.
“Perfect!” The makeup artist was deathly satisfied with the final result. “Alright, now we just wait for the set and photography teams to finish their preparations.”
Shen Huaixu opened her eyes. The person in the mirror was dazzling and striking. A pair of slightly upturned fox eyes were incredibly charming. The makeup artist’s technique had emphasized Shen Huaixu’s eyes, making people notice her cool yet exotic silver-grey gaze first, while ignoring the coldness of her brow.
The dress she was wearing no longer seemed so unbearable. Shen Huaixu looked at herself left and right in the mirror, finally feeling quite satisfied.
The shooting process went very smoothly, with almost no wasted shots. Both the editor-in-chief and the photographer were very pleased with the results Shen Huaixu delivered and immediately announced the end of the shift.
“Wrap it up, wrap it up! Good work, everyone.”
As soon as the staff announced the end of the shoot, Shen Huaixu glanced at Jiang Rui. Without a word, Jiang Rui immediately understood her meaning.
This girl is planning to make a run for it again. She waved her hand, signaling that she understood.
After greeting the staff, Jiang Rui took Shen Huaixu and Xu Le and left the filming location.
As the elevator descended, Jiang Rui said to Shen Huaixu, who was leaning against the wall playing with her phone, “Are you satisfied now?”
“What’s the other job?” Shen Huaixu didn’t answer the question, putting away her phone to ask about the next task.
The elevator arrived, and Jiang Rui stepped out. “A commercial shoot. Once that’s done, you can rest for a while. I need to properly plan your future career direction; I can’t just let you take random jobs anymore.”
“Oh? I thought as long as they paid enough, you’d take anything.” Shen Huaixu teased Jiang Rui about her behavior this time.
Jiang Rui told her to shut up. “Say one more word and I’ll take a few more jobs for you. Let’s see if you still have the energy to talk then.”
Shen Huaixu raised her hands in surrender.
The second job was also completed smoothly. Shen Huaixu was already eager to get home. Jiang Rui knew she couldn’t keep her, so she let her go, but not before reminding her to be safe on the road and not to be spotted by paparazzi. She didn’t want to see Shen Huaixu’s name on the trending searches again.
Shen Huaixu put on a mask and left without looking back.
Gu Yinghuai, who was resting at home, received a message that Shen Huaixu was coming back and instructed her to buy some snacks on the way, along with a cup of milk tea.
Refusing Overtime: [Hard work, Axu!]
Don’t Want to Work: [At my wife’s service]

“I’m back!” Shen Huaixu, carrying the things Gu Yinghuai had specifically requested, received a warm welcome the moment she stepped through the door.
“Welcome home.” Gu Yinghuai hugged Shen Huaixu’s waist, stood on her tiptoes, and gave her a long, lingering kiss.
Shen Huaixu raised her hand and laughed, “Careful not to knock over your milk tea. I don’t want to see someone crying about it.”
Gu Yinghuai pouted and stomped her foot. “I wouldn’t cry over something like that.”
“Yes, yes. Let’s go. Didn’t you say you wanted to watch TV? I’ve got all your snacks ready.” Shen Huaixu shifted the milk tea to her other hand and put her arm around Gu Yinghuai as they walked to the living room, gently nudging her onto the sofa. “How are you feeling? Any discomfort? Did you eat the porridge I made? You didn’t just cook instant noodles for lunch, did you?”
“Axu is so nagging! So many questions—which one should I answer first?” Gu Yinghuai opened her milk tea, poked in the straw, and turned on the TV while sipping. “Let’s watch a variety show! Hehe, the one where Axu is an observer has started airing. Let’s watch it together.”
This girl… so that was her plan all along. Shen Huaixu felt helpless but couldn’t do anything about Gu Yinghuai. She could only sit beside her and watch the dating show.
“Let me state this beforehand: my screen time should be very, very minimal,” Shen Huaixu warned her.
Gu Yinghuai didn’t care about that; she just wanted to see Shen Huaixu look embarrassed. After all, who told Axu to be so “bad” last night?
“Look, it’s starting.” Gu Yinghuai was a bit excited. This was her Axu’s variety show debut!
The two snuggled on the sofa. Shen Huaixu, with her long limbs, looked a bit cramped tucked into the couch. Gu Yinghuai leaned into her arms, eating the snacks Shen Huaixu had bought, occasionally commenting on segments of the show or discussing the guests’ romantic leads, guessing who would end up as the final couple.
“Axu seems quite popular on the show.” In the variety show, Shen Huaixu was being teased by several MCs. People who didn’t know her might not realize she was embarrassed, but Gu Yinghuai could tell with a single glance that Shen Huaixu was not only embarrassed but also a bit flustered at the time.
Shen Huaixu stuffed a potato chip into Gu Yinghuai’s mouth and said helplessly, “Give me a break.”
“Since Axu said so, I won’t say anything more.” Gu Yinghuai smiled mischievously, but in the next second, she heard Shen Huaixu on the TV say she was interested in Female Guest No. 6. She immediately raised an eyebrow. “Hmm?”
Shen Huaixu, with a cheese stick in her mouth, wasn’t nervous at all.
Because after she gave her reason, the camera cut to Female Guest No. 6, giving a big close-up of her eyes.
“Oh—” Gu Yinghuai suddenly understood. Seeing those eyes, how could she not?
Rather than saying she was interested in Guest No. 6, it was more accurate to say she was interested in those eyes that bore a striking resemblance to Gu Yinghuai’s. But that was all.
Shen Huaixu kept her arm around Gu Yinghuai’s shoulder without speaking, quietly continuing to watch the rest of the content with her.
As the show reached its end, it was nearly time for dinner. Gu Yinghuai had eaten a stomach full of snacks and milk tea all afternoon and wasn’t hungry yet.
“Are you hungry, Axu?” She wasn’t, but Shen Huaixu hadn’t eaten much in the afternoon. Gu Yinghuai was worried Shen Huaixu would starve herself just to accompany her while watching TV.
Shen Huaixu stretched. “A little. I’m going to cook something. Do you want to come, Huai?”
Gu Yinghuai smiled. “Sure. It’s been a long time since we cooked together.”
The two moved from the living room to the kitchen. Gu Yinghuai stood behind Shen Huaixu to tie her apron.
Due to her profession as a model, Shen Huaixu’s waist was much thinner than the average person’s. Through the thin fabric, Gu Yinghuai could feel the slender yet powerful muscles beneath the clothes.
She took the opportunity to give a little squeeze and even patted Shen Huaixu’s rounded, pert backside. “Your physique is quite well-maintained. Keep it up.”
Shen Huaixu gave her a flat look without speaking, but the warning in her eyes was self-evident: I’ll deal with you tonight.
Gu Yinghuai stuck out her tongue and turned away.
Shen Huaixu shook her head and opened the fridge to take out the ingredients she would need. She planned to just make some noodles to fill her stomach.
Gu Yinghuai, meanwhile, took another non-stick pan to fry an egg. The edges were crispy, but the inside was still runny. With a slight poke, the golden yolk immediately flowed out.
“Huai’s egg-frying skills are getting better and better.” Shen Huaixu praised her with genuine sincerity. In her eyes, even if Gu Yinghuai had served her a charred black egg, she would have complimented her cooking without blinking.
Gu Yinghuai scooped up the fried egg and placed it into Shen Huaixu’s cooked noodles, then asked, “So, can you let me off tonight?”
Shen Huaixu gave her a smile that made it look like she had been won over by the egg, but then coldly announced: “No.”
She was going to have an “extra meal” tonight.
