Falling After Marriage - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Marriage… Give Me Some Time
Even though Lin Jin maintained her composure, facing an absolute disparity in strength, she was just a woman with no power to fight back.
The group of large, tall thugs on motorcycles easily blocked all escape routes, forcing her to press her body tightly against the car door.
Seeing the leader raise the baseball bat high, she tightly shut her eyes, tilted her head, and shrunk her neck, bracing herself for the unavoidable blow.
Just as the bat swung down fiercely, a red fire extinguisher, a rapid blur, accurately struck the man’s hand, instantly changing the direction of the hit.
The end of the bat swung past Lin Jin’s ear with a vicious wind, smashing against the car window and shattering the glass.
It was clear that if that blow had landed on her head, it would have been instantly fatal.
A few minutes earlier.
After getting the car keys, Cheng Sangluo sprinted to find the C29 parking spot.
She didn’t know why, but after only a short time apart from Lin Jin, she felt an inexplicable panic in her heart.
This sudden anxiety came from her sixth sense, and her intuition had always been accurate. So, her frantic steps became even more chaotic.
When she arrived at Zone C, she heard a series of wildly arrogant engine roars. This instantly reminded her of what had happened outside the auto repair shop, and a sense of dread crept into her heart.
She glanced around the empty parking garage, thinking she hadn’t seen such a large motorcycle group on her way in. Where did these people come from?
So, she listened to the revving engines, estimating there were about five or six motorcycles, and even deduced that they had no intention of leaving; they must be clustered somewhere.
Better safe than sorry.
Having been a special forces soldier for so many years, Cheng Sangluo’s reconnaissance instincts were deeply ingrained. The moment she sensed the slightest danger, she would quickly enter a state of high alert.
She looked toward the source of the sound, coincidentally seeing the sign indicating parking spaces C20–C30. Her heart instantly dropped, plummeting with an unprecedented sense of unease.
She looked around and decisively grabbed a fire extinguisher near a concrete pillar. She took two, one as a handy weapon and one for backup.
Cheng Sangluo approached cautiously. When she clearly saw a group of black-clad men surrounding the Bentley on motorcycles, her sinking heart instantly clogged her throat, causing a terrifying, rollercoaster-like discomfort.
At the moment, everyone’s attention was on Lin Jin. She lightened her steps and crouched low, sneaking toward the back of the nearest motorcycle.
She initially planned to seize the opportunity to snatch the baseball bat from the man’s hand, so all the firepower would be concentrated on her. But seeing Lin Jin about to be hit by the bat, she held her breath, sucking in a cold gulp of air.
In the blink of an eye, this highly trained retired soldier, relying on years of combat experience, immediately formulated an effective offense and defense plan.
‘To throw a grenade further and more accurately, it’s not as simple as tossing a stone for fun. You need long-term training in strength and control. While your core and waist explode, your arm must be set back, and you need to coordinate hip rotation and elbow push with a short run-up. You must ensure the overall coordination and anti-arch capability of the movement. The instant of the throw is the process of feeling the whip and the unloading of force. Do you understand!’
‘Understood!’
‘Cheng Sangluo.’
‘Here!’
‘Step forward and demonstrate.’
Wei Yun’s resonant instructions echoed in Cheng Sangluo’s ears. She had personally taught the grenade-throwing skill, strict training that nearly dislocated Cheng Sangluo’s arm in those days.
Of course, she was the best in the team at it, achieving mastery, absolute precision.
Back then, everyone loved to bet privately, throwing stones to hit glass bottles twenty meters away. One packet of instant noodles was staked on each bottle. She won over thirty bags.
Now, Cheng Sangluo hefted the fire extinguisher. It was heavy. It required better control to swing, but for someone with powerful arms like her, it was just a little heavier.
She threw the fire extinguisher, immediately crouched to pick up the other one, and roared out: “Lin Jin, get down! Crawl under the car, quickly!”
With that, she pressed the button on the fire extinguisher in her hand, spraying the dry powder indiscriminately toward everyone in front of her.
Instantly, a vast white cloud of dry powder obscured everyone’s vision. This momentary gap gave Lin Jin enough time to hide under the car.
Lin Jin hadn’t fully recovered from the panic. Hearing the shout, she immediately pulled herself together and quickly crouched to crawl under the car.
Everything seemed to be under Cheng Sangluo’s control. The luxury car’s chassis wasn’t high. No one else present could squeeze under it, but the slender Lin Jin could hide there.
In this moment of pressing danger, as she scooted backward, she suddenly let out an ill-timed laugh. She laughed at her high-and-mighty self for being so undignified now, and she laughed at the person who was so brave to save her.
Cheng Sangluo, you could have left me alone. Why didn’t you run?
Lin Jin was distracted in the chaos. The laugh only lasted for two sounds before suddenly turning into a muffled groan of pain.
Before she could fully retract her foot beneath the car, the man outside stomped down on it. A bat swing immediately followed, smashing onto her ankle.
Lin Jin’s forehead broke out in tiny beads of sweat from the pain. She endured the agony, struggled with all her might, and finally broke free, managing to hide in the corner under the car.
With that, the people outside could no longer drag her out from below.
The mediocre thugs coughed uncontrollably from inhaling the dry powder. They could only wave their arms to clear the irritating grey-white dust.
Cheng Sangluo’s plan involved extreme foresight, and everything was unfolding as she predicted.
She swung the fire extinguisher in her hand, directly knocking down the person closest to her.
That person was pinned under the heavy motorcycle and couldn’t get up immediately.
She stomped on the person’s head twice, seized the baseball bat, and dragged it along the ground, creating a jarring, grating sound of metal against concrete.
“What kind of men are you, jumping one woman?” she growled, assuming a perfect baseball swing posture. Clang! She accurately and fiercely hit another person’s head, continuing to curse: “Pah, you’re all useless.”
She understood the principle of capturing the leader first, and she learned from her failure to grapple with the lackeys at Shiqigang last time.
This time, she chose to strike directly at the heart. She sprinted toward the Bentley.
Seeing the opponent raise his foot to kick her, she immediately braked, sidestepped, and raised the baseball bat with the decisiveness of a swift, clean strike.
‘Come on, smash his leg.’
In that moment, Lin Jin’s smiling command echoed in Cheng Sangluo’s mind.
On that night in Shiqigang, the crazy woman taught her many lessons, the most unforgettable being that sentence.
To people, you must be ruthless, then you won’t be bullied.
Therefore, the swing of the bat now carried the same brutal efficiency as when she aimed to break Cheng Xing’s kneecap.
“Ah—”
In a flash, the leader let out a shrill howl, losing his balance and dropping to one knee.
“How little do you think of me, trying to hand me a free kill?” Cheng Sangluo mocked arrogantly: “You can’t even be a thug properly! Don’t you know that exposing your limbs is the most taboo thing in a weapons fight?”
She was utterly focused on fighting. While using her arm to tightly choke the man’s neck, she raised the baseball bat and scanned everyone else. “Who dares to come closer and try? Who dares!”
Cheng Sangluo’s momentum was overwhelming. Not only did she possess the skill to overpower everyone, but she also held the leader hostage, immediately rendering the remaining few helpless.
Saying this, she knocked the bat against the car door. “Lin Jin, call the police quickly.”
Lin Jin, lying under the car, did not follow her instructions. Instead, she dialed a phone number.
She tilted her head to look at the man being held hostage outside the car. After a busy signal, a low male voice answered the phone.
“How rare. My arrogant little sister. You miss me so soon? You even have to call late at night to ask for a goodnight.” Lin Sheng’s tone sounded relaxed, but every word was clearly squeezed out through clenched teeth.
Lin Jin endured the pain in her foot, her brows furrowed, but when she spoke, she returned to her usual contemptuous manner: “Lin Sheng, your methods can be clumsy, but you need to use your brain. If I call the police now, do you think the police will eventually summon you for questioning?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Hmph. People who dare not take responsibility can’t achieve great things. Your subordinates are useless. You should find a way to replace them, or you’ll always be the one losing face. Today is my mother’s death anniversary. If you want to offer some blood to show your filial piety, I suppose it’s acceptable.” Lin Jin didn’t give Lin Sheng a chance to refute and hung up the phone directly.
She crawled out from under the car with difficulty, dragging her injured ankle, and hobbled to the man.
Cheng Sangluo saw her injured foot, her brows twisting into a knot. “You’re hurt. Don’t move.”
Lin Jin ignored her concern, directly reaching out and hooking her finger: “Give me the baseball bat.”
“What do you want to do?” Cheng Sangluo pulled the bat behind her, refusing: “Let’s leave this to the police. Don’t do anything reckless.”
“Give it to me!” Anger flashed in Lin Jin’s eyes. The two words, spoken with force, heavily struck the quiet parking garage. “Don’t make me say it a second time.”
Cheng Sangluo had never seen the crazy woman so furious. The intimidating rage was unquenchable and left her unable to refuse. She could only grudgingly hand over the bat.
Lin Jin snatched the baseball bat, then forcefully pulled off the man’s helmet.
She pressed the end of the bat against the man’s jaw, speaking with a queen-like, unquestionable authority: “If you don’t want the police involved, I’ll give you two choices. I will break the hand you used to hit my foot, or you break your own ankle. Otherwise, this matter won’t be settled.”
Cheng Sangluo tried to reason with her, calling out softly: “Lin Jin…”
“You shut up!” Lin Jin roared, giving the man no more time to consider.
She endured the severe pain, lifted one foot, and stomped on the man’s leg, causing him to struggle.
Cheng Sangluo had no other choice but to become her accomplice. Her arm tightened around the man’s neck again, warning him: “If you don’t want me to snap your neck, you better not move. You brought this trouble upon yourselves. You deserve it!”
Lin Jin’s high heel was deeply embedded in the man’s calf, slowly grinding until it created a bloody hole.
The man screamed in pain, kicking wildly, roaring at his subordinates: “What are you staring at? You can’t even handle two women. How will you explain this to the boss?”
“Explain? How do you plan to explain? Did you not hear me talking to Lin Sheng just now? He can’t protect you, and he wouldn’t dare.” Lin Jin mocked, bringing up Lin Sheng to continue the threat: “If I call the police now, not only will you end up in jail, but you’ll implicate your boss, and he won’t let you off either.”
At this, no one dared to disobey.
The man thought about it. He had no choice but to admit defeat. That boss was merciless when he got angry, and the woman in front of him had an even more reckless presence.
“I’ve been quite lenient with you. Aren’t you satisfied with this private settlement?” Lin Jin was utterly uncompromising, and her heart was more ruthless than Cheng Sangluo’s.
As she spoke, she swung the bat onto the man’s ankle without the slightest hesitation. Feeling unsatisfied, she fiercely hit him again with the bat she had thrown earlier.
Amidst the grating sound of the aluminum alloy bat hitting the ground, she glared at the group of people: “Get out!”
The man, who had been choked by Cheng Sangluo, arched his stomach in pain, unable to make a sound.
Cheng Sangluo released her arm, grabbed the man’s collar, and dragged him toward the group of lackeys, intimidating them: “Aren’t you leaving? If you don’t leave now, none of you will!”
Before long, the group of aggressive thugs fled in disarray, looking disgraced.
The two listened as the roar of the motorcycles gradually faded until their ears were finally at peace.
Lin Jin, who had just been full of violent aura, now looked like a deflated balloon, mentally very weak.
She put her hands on her hips, her shoulders slumped, leaning against the car door, taking deep breaths to calm her somewhat uncontrollable emotions.
Everything she had just experienced seemed to have drained all her strength. The intense feeling of fear crawled along her nerves, eroding all her forced bravery.
Cheng Sangluo didn’t wait to comfort her. She immediately crouched down to examine Lin Jin’s ankle, seeing the fair, delicate ankle was bruised and swollen. She didn’t know if the bone was injured.
She urgently asked: “Is it skin pain, or bone pain? How did he manage to hit you? No… it’s my fault. I should have sprayed more dry powder on the ground.”
Cheng Sangluo thought her fighting plan was perfect. How could there be a mistake? She couldn’t stop apologizing: “It was my mistake. I misjudged… I’m sorry… I should have…”
“Stop it.” Lin Jin’s voice softened, interrupting her “puppy.”
Her foot hurt terribly, but she still endured the pain to crouch down, cupping Cheng Sangluo’s remorseful face, and comforting her instead: “When did my puppy’s apologies become so cheap? They are the ones who were wrong. You shouldn’t be the one saying sorry, right?”
Cheng Sangluo didn’t know what her role was now. Perhaps she was accustomed to the role of a protector, so she blamed herself. “I failed to protect you well. I can’t explain this to Sheng He.”
“The tires were probably punctured by those people. We can’t drive. Carry me outside to hail a taxi. I’m tired and I want to go home.”
Cheng Sangluo turned her back, gesturing: “Come, wrap your arms around my neck. No, not home. I’m taking you to the hospital for an X-ray.”
Lin Jin looked at her broad back, spread her arms to hug her “puppy’s” neck tightly, and comfortably rested her head on her shoulder. “You’re worried about me.”
Cheng Sangluo held her breath, stood up, and started walking out, muttering: “Of course I’m worried. That person almost smashed your head. Do you know a baseball bat can smash your head into a split-open watermelon? Aren’t you scared?”
Lin Jin comfortably rubbed her face, sniffing her “puppy’s” scent, and narrowed her eyes with a smile: “I’m not scared~ because the one I love will come on a colorful cloud to save me~”
“Stubborn talk. I don’t believe it.” Cheng Sangluo scoffed verbally, but her hands supporting Lin Jin tightened, carrying her more steadily, as if hoping to prevent her from disappearing.
“You see, beneath my glamour is nothing but hidden danger. I really need your protection, so…” Lin Jin had a flash of inspiration, preparing to bring up the subject of a contract marriage again.
Cheng Sangluo saw through her little trick and quickly called a halt: “Hey, hey, hey, stop right there. Are you getting another random idea?”
“I really, really need you. Life is hard without you, and it’s dangerous without your protection.” Lin Jin whispered softly into her “puppy’s” ear.
She lowered her gaze, sadness gathering in her eyes. She had no other choice. Even though this person had just endured a bloody storm with her, she still couldn’t get her to agree.
Just give in. Please, please just give in.
“Lin Jin, if you need a partnership, I can consider it. Marriage… give me some time…”
