Falling After Marriage - Chapter 51
Chapter 51: Hungry, I Want To Eat The Puppy~
In the early hours of the morning.
The emergency building of the People’s Hospital was like a lighthouse in a desert of life, perpetually radiating the light of continuous vitality throughout the long, dark night.
The bar street was not far from the hospital, only about a ten-minute drive, but Cheng Sangluo felt the journey was agonizing, constantly urging the driver to go faster.
The moment the driver hit the brakes and stopped at the hospital entrance, she forcefully pushed the car door open, turned, and carried the light-as-a-feather Lin Jin toward the emergency building.
Her urgency was unprecedented. She even tossed fifty yuan for the fare and didn’t wait for the change.
Her steps were rushed and chaotic, yet steady enough. The anxiety that spilled out in her haste was a rare sight, easily betraying the concern and care she vehemently denied.
Even though the late-night breeze was chilling, it couldn’t combat the stuffiness of her formal attire.
She rushed without stopping, soaked in sweat. Her face was flushed with heat, and a bead of sweat hung from the tip of her nose, poised to drop.
Lin Jin silently clung to her neck, a satisfied smile curving her lips, secretly noting that her injury was not entirely in vain, carrying a measure of good fortune amid the disaster.
However, seeing her “puppy’s” serious and anxious expression, a hint of distress arose in her eyes. She whispered: “No one died. Why are you so nervous? Be good, walk slower, okay?”
“No, I need to hurry and get an emergency ticket. If the bone is injured, there might be surgery. We might have to spend the night here.” The person who had been silent finally spoke. The small display of assertiveness in her unquestionable tone was greatly pleasing to Lin Jin.
Perhaps feeling her attitude was too forceful, Cheng Sangluo softened her voice and muttered: “Even though you’re not complaining, I can tell you’re in a lot of pain. Your face has lost all color. You really can endure it.”
Being silently cared for by the person with the heart of stone, Lin Jin’s expression froze, but quickly melted into a pool of moonlight-reflected tenderness.
She tilted her head to rest on Cheng Sangluo’s shoulder, letting out a few clear laughs, unable to resist self-flattery: “Is my puppy so worried about me? Don’t deny it~”
Cheng Sangluo didn’t slow down, only lowering her eyes to glance at the pale-faced crazy woman.
Her temper was better than before; even her complaints felt like soft, fluffy cotton candy. “What time is it, and you’re still in the mood for jokes? It seems your foot injury isn’t severe enough.”
“Who said that?” Lin Jin tightened the arm around her “puppy’s” neck, pouting playfully: “My foot hurts! It hurts so much, so much~”
I desperately need my puppy’s comforting right now~
As they hurried into the emergency building, Cheng Sangluo immediately looked around for a place to rent a wheelchair, so much so that she didn’t notice a figure in white walking toward her.
Lin Jin, however, was sharp-eyed. Looking at the woman gracefully approaching, she smiled and greeted her: “Sister Chi, I’m sorry to make you rush over so late. I’ve caused you trouble.”
Cheng Sangluo was greatly surprised. This was the first time she had seen the crazy woman be so polite, even speaking courteously to someone else, her tone almost compliant.
She followed Lin Jin’s gaze. The female doctor in the white coat had a gentle smile, her eyes holding a calm, unhurried composure.
The woman didn’t strike her as cold-tempered, as she exuded an intellectual softness, but she was without excessive warmth.
Compared to her, Cheng Sangluo appeared overly anxious and restless.
Chi Jue was the Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at the People’s Hospital and one of the three major shareholders of Yunxing Health Center. She was highly reliable, which was why Lin Jin asked her to make this trip in the middle of the night.
“It’s alright. I’ve already registered the emergency number. Let’s take an X-ray first.” Chi Jue responded with a calm nod, her hands in her pockets, then focused her attention on Lin Jin’s bruised ankle. “Tell me, what happened?”
“Got beaten up by Lin Sheng’s people.” Lin Jin leaned languidly against her “puppy,” answering truthfully as if it were nothing.
Chi Jue’s eyes were subdued, her unflappable temperament as clear as water. Even upon hearing that Lin Jin’s foot was intentionally injured, she didn’t show the slightest surprise.
She supported Lin Jin’s ankle and performed a simple check. The bruising was severe, and even a slight touch caused a reflex withdrawal due to sharp pain. It looked like the ankle joint was injured. “What hit it?”
“A baseball bat. It was a very hard hit.”
The person who answered quickly was Cheng Sangluo. She hadn’t actually seen how Lin Jin got hurt, yet her guess sounded very convincing.
Unable to resist, she added another question: “Uh, Dr. Chi… Dr. Chi, is the foot injury very serious?”
“A baseball bat?” Chi Jue looked up at the nervous Cheng Sangluo and made a preliminary judgment: “If it was a very hard hit, it’s highly likely to be a fracture. We’ll decide the next step after seeing the film. If surgery is needed, we’ll have to wait until the swelling subsides.”
“Oh, okay… okay… I’ll listen to you…” Cheng Sangluo nodded repeatedly like an obedient primary school student, acting more like the injured party.
Lin Jin’s sparkling eyes fixed on her “puppy’s” face and refused to move away. The anxious and cautious look she wore was a reward to witness.
Cheng Sangluo couldn’t see her, but the expression of the woman in her arms was one of eternal devotion.
Chi Jue noticed Lin Jin was utterly smitten, so she kindly smiled and didn’t interrupt.
She didn’t stay idle and turned to instruct Cheng Sangluo: “You’ll run an errand in a moment. Go buy some tissues and toiletries, and get a few bottles of mineral water as well. If my initial assessment is correct, there’s a high probability you’ll need to complete admission procedures for hospitalization.”
“Yes, yes, tissues… toiletries… mineral water…” Cheng Sangluo muttered, repeating the list of necessities, then quickened her pace to keep up with Chi Jue. “Is there anything else I need to buy?”
Chi Jue was affected by her cautious anxiety and couldn’t help but tease: “Relax. Look, the injured person isn’t as nervous as you are.”
“M-Me? Am I nervous?” Cheng Sangluo awkwardly twitched her lips, strongly denying it: “Where am I nervous? Am I?”
They happened to reach the on-call room of the radiology department. Chi Jue greeted her colleague inside and arranged: “Leave her to me. Go outside and get some air.”
“Oh, okay.” Cheng Sangluo replied, setting Lin Jin down on a resting chair. She then crouched down to take off Lin Jin’s high heels, asking softly: “Is there anything else you need me to buy? Are you hungry?”
Lin Jin raised her eyebrows, assessing her “puppy’s” serious yet adorable face. She leaned in close to her ear, seizing the moment to tease: “Hungry. I want to eat the puppy~”
Seeing her “puppy’s” ears and the base of her neck instantly turn bright red, Lin Jin was utterly satisfied. She propped herself up on her hands on either side, trying to wiggle her toes, but even a slight movement brought searing pain. She narrowed her eyes in enduring it. “Hiss…”
“Aish! Can you stop moving around?” Cheng Sangluo low-key rebuked her, trying to hide her embarrassment. Noticing Chi Jue was also observing her, she quickly stood up and rushed away.
Lin Jin stretched her neck to look at the retreating figure, muttering resentfully: “We’ve slept together so many times. Why is she still so shy?”
While waiting for the X-ray results, Chi Jue walked up to Lin Jin with her arms crossed, showing a rare gossipy expression. “That girl is the one you’ve been waiting for?”
Lin Jin raised an eyebrow, proudly counter-asking: “What do you think? Isn’t she adorable?”
“She’s an honest person.” Chi Jue was a good judge of character, and her assessment was fair. “I can tell you’ve often bullied her.”
“What’s this about bullying? She’s great in every way, except she’s as stubborn as an ox. I call it effective dog training.” Lin Jin spouted baseless arguments. Then, suddenly remembering something, she immediately adopted a face suggesting she had a favor to ask. “Sis, can I ask you for a favor?”
Chi Jue immediately refused: “No. Whenever you ask me with that expression, it’s never anything good. You are full of bad intentions.”
“I’m not asking you to do anything illegal or criminal.” Lin Jin wrinkled her nose, letting out her bad idea: “If I don’t have a fracture, can you please help me get admitted for a few days?”
“Do you think this is a holiday resort? Occupying medical resources, do you even have the nerve?” Chi Jue could obviously see through Lin Jin’s little scheme—she just wanted to use the injury to trouble that honest woman. “If you’re sick, get treated. If you’re not, go home and have your romance. Don’t you find this place depressing?”
“Fine, fine, what Sister Chi says is right.” Lin Jin smiled wearily, constantly glancing in the direction of the stairwell.
Her “puppy” had been gone for about twenty minutes, making her somewhat absentminded. She couldn’t help but pull out her phone, considering whether to call and rush her.
Such a call would be simple, just a few swipes of the screen, yet it felt difficult because Lin Jin always wished that person would take the initiative in everything.
The quiet waiting area wasn’t conducive to much excitement. This brief separation brought the agony of every second feeling like a year.
Chi Jue, thinking it was a rare chance to see Lin Jin, took the opportunity to bring up an important matter: “A-Jin, I’ve thought about it. I cannot perform the surgery you planned. After all, performing such a surgery without the patient’s consent is illegal. You should think more about the other person. Instead of hiding and deceiving her, it’s better to be honest. Some things can be left unsaid for a while, but not forever.”
On the other side.
Cheng Sangluo searched around outside the hospital and finally found a 24-hour convenience store.
This person was contradictory. She was always harsh toward Lin Jin, and stingy with herself, yet when buying necessities for hospitalization, she was unusually generous.
She stood by the shelf with a shopping basket, tossing anything useful into it.
Besides the essentials Dr. Chi mentioned, she also selected a bunch of other things.
Thinking that Lin Jin was a woman who commanded respect, her phone needed to be operational at all times. So, with a big wave of her hand, a power bank costing over a hundred yuan was added to the basket, along with a charger set for emergencies.
Even though she knew the noble woman wouldn’t spare a glance for instant food, she still bought a stack of mixed-flavor eight-treasure porridge.
Hmm, milk is a must, and it needs to be low-fat, high-calcium. After all, the crazy woman is limping, so calcium supplementation is important.
Passing the snack aisle, she paused for a moment, tilting her head to scan the dazzling array of snacks, wondering if Lin Jin would eat them.
The next second, several large bags of potato chips were piled into the basket.
When she reached the checkout counter, Cheng Sangluo listened to the beeping of the scanner. The sound echoed in her ears, and her heart bled.
She was annoyed at herself for being too generous. After all, she earned her money through hard work; it didn’t come easily.
Yet, she also felt it was all her fault. If she had been more careful during the fight with those people in the parking garage, she wouldn’t have caused the crazy woman to get hurt.
This soft-hearted deity ultimately placed all the blame on herself.
The cashier bagged the two large bags of goods and reminded her: “Hello, 381 yuan.”
And so, the “puppy” paid, with tears in her heart.
