Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 78
The fruity aroma of wine, mixed with a hint of wood smoke, hit Yu Qingxue in the face. For a brief moment, she thought she smelled Ning Xi’s pheromones.
Her heart thumped hard twice. “You’re already drunk. Stop drinking.”
Ning Xi gave a soft laugh. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.” Her husky voice slipped into Yu Qingxue’s ears, and it took everything in Yu Qingxue not to lose her calm expression.
At that moment, Lin Zhuoyan suddenly approached, carrying two glasses of red wine. “Sister Qingxue, if it weren’t for the talent show you invested in, I wouldn’t be standing here today. I have to offer you a toast.”
He held out a glass to her. The wine inside the crystal glass swayed slightly, catching the reflection of the ceiling lights.
Lin Zhuoyan smiled innocently, his big, bright eyes looking at her with eager anticipation.
Yu Qingxue looked at him with a cold expression and said nothing. Lin Zhuoyan bit his lower lip nervously, his face slowly turning pale. “Sister Qingxue…” he said softly. His voice trembled, and his eyes were filled with tears, looking utterly pitiful.
Ning Xi watched him, then suddenly smiled. Her snowy skin, red lips, and dark, shimmering eyes, paired with the slight blush at the corners of her eyes, made her look breathtakingly beautiful.
Lin Zhuoyan stared at her, completely stunned. But he quickly came back to his senses, his heart full of jealousy and hatred toward Yu Qingxue.
Why? Why did Ning Xi have to be Yu Qingxue’s girlfriend?
Lin Zhuoyan’s creamy white face turned red. Suddenly, he shifted his attention to Ning Xi, looking at her with hesitation and longing. The flirtation in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Yu Qingxue’s expression turned cold.
Under the table, Ning Xi reached for her hand. With a tipsy smile, she looked at Lin Zhuoyan and said, “President Yu already said she’s not drinking. Even the other producers and writers know better than to offer her alcohol. Who do you think you are?” Her tone was gentle, but her words were sharp.
Lin Zhuoyan’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe Ning Xi had said that to him. His hand trembled in anger, and the wine in his glass almost spilled.
Ning Xi didn’t look at him again. She turned to Yu Qingxue with a slight frown and whispered, “I’m drunk. Can we go back to the hotel?”
Yu Qingxue glanced at Lin Zhuoyan and gave a small smile. “Alright.”
At another table, Jiang Yuanxin and Li Chuanyong were deep in conversation, while Wang You and Wei Nian were happily feeding each other. Their cups held only juice, so there was no need to worry about them getting drunk.
Yu Qingxue gave a quick instruction. “Watch over Jiang Yuanxin and make sure he gets back to the hotel after dinner. Ning Xi is drunk, I’ll take her back first.”
After she finished speaking, she helped Ning Xi to her feet. Ning Xi staggered slightly. Her blurry eyes caught a figure in the corner holding up a phone and recording. She immediately put some distance between herself and Yu Qingxue, making sure nothing in the footage could be misinterpreted.
Lin Zhuoyan stood frozen in place, watching them walk away. The tips of his fingers gripping the wine glass were completely bloodless.
At the door to the private room, Yu Qingxue helped Ning Xi put on a mask and then put one on herself.
Ning Xi turned her back to the person filming and used her body to completely shield Yu Qingxue from view.
Once their masks were on, they quietly left the room.
The person hiding in the corner hadn’t captured what Lin Zhuoyan wanted and hurried outside, hoping to catch up and keep filming.
As he passed by Jiang Yuanxin’s table, Wei Nian suddenly reached out and blocked his way. When the man saw she was part of the Asking the Devil production crew, he broke into a cold sweat, thinking he had been caught.
Wei Nian asked a server to bring over an extra chair. She smiled at the man. “Hey, I’ve been watching you. You’ve been standing in that corner with your phone for a while now.”
The man panicked, nearly dropping his phone. “I… I was just…”
Before he could come up with an excuse, Wei Nian continued, “No seat for dinner, huh? Come sit next to me. Your team really messed up the reservations. Come on, sit here.”
The man wiped the sweat from his forehead. “No, no, I’m fine.”
“Why are you being so polite? We’re the ones who overbooked and left you standing. If you want, I’ll give you, my seat.”
He had no way to refuse and was pulled down into the chair beside her.
Back in the private room earlier, Ning Xi had told Yu Qingxue she could walk on her own. Since they knew someone was filming, Yu Qingxue had purposely kept a distance between them.
Once outside the restaurant, the street was bustling. Tourists and locals passed by in waves, and the crowd nearly separated them.
Ning Xi’s phone suddenly vibrated three times. It was the secret signal between her and Wei Nian. She understood that Wei Nian had successfully blocked the person and prevented them from following.
Ning Xi stepped closer to Yu Qingxue, interlocked their fingers, and smiled. “I’m drunk. Hold my hand so I don’t get lost.”
Back in the hotel room, both Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue’s palms were damp with sweat. The sticky feeling wasn’t comfortable, but neither of them let go.
“There was someone smoking in the private room. My clothes smell like smoke,” Ning Xi said. “I’m going to take a shower, then head to the screening room to watch a movie. Would you like to come?”
Yu Qingxue tightened her grip on Ning Xi’s hand. “Weren’t you drunk? Just shower and go to sleep.”
“But I’m not sleepy,” Ning Xi said, gently swinging their clasped hands. “I want to watch a movie with you.”
Under her dark lashes, Ning Xi’s eyes reflected Yu Qingxue’s face. Yu Qingxue lost her resolve.
“Alright,” she gave in. “I’ll take a shower too. Should take about half an hour. After yours, go straight to the screening room and wait for me.”
She tried to let go of Ning Xi’s hand to return to her room, but Ning Xi held on tightly.
Yu Qingxue asked, “What is it?”
“I want to wear the dark green silk nightdress,” Ning Xi replied.
Yu Qingxue’s face flushed red in an instant. Her calm expression finally cracked. “Don’t you have your own sleepwear?”
“But I want to wear that one. Just like when I stayed at your place,” Ning Xi said, looking into her eyes, stubborn and unwavering.
Yu Qingxue knew there was no reasoning with someone who was drunk. There was no chance Ning Xi would back down. She sighed and relented. “Wait here. I’ll go get it for you.”
Only then did Ning Xi finally let go.
Yu Qingxue glanced at her palm. Her carefully maintained hand was now red and soaked with sweat, but she didn’t feel annoyed. Instead, her heart felt soft and sweet.
She returned to her room and opened the wardrobe, pulling out the dark green silk nightdress Ning Xi had asked for. As she thought about Ning Xi wearing it, sitting beside her in a quiet, dark screening room watching a movie, the warmth that had just left her cheeks suddenly rushed back.
