Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 77
Ning Xi walked out of Jiang Yuanxin’s lounge and saw that only Wei Nian was outside. Her cheeks were flushed, and she was smiling to herself like someone lost in a daydream. Yu Qingxue and Wang You were nowhere to be seen.
Ning Xi walked up to her and asked, “Why are you here alone? Have you seen where Qingxue went?”
Wei Nian instinctively pointed in the direction of the dressing room. “President Yu went in there with Yoyo.”
Yu Qingxue and Wang You? Did Qingxue write another script?
Curious, Ning Xi turned and headed toward the dressing room. Just as she raised her hand to knock, she heard Yu Qingxue’s slightly emotional voice from inside.
“I’m still single and you’ve already got a girlfriend! I’m so jealous I could cry!”
Wang You spoke in a slow and gentle voice to comfort her. “Isn’t Ning Xi already pursuing you? It’s only a matter of time before she confesses.”
Yu Qingxue sounded aggrieved. “Sooner or later, what’s the difference? If I had just agreed to marry her earlier, we could’ve started sleeping together tomorrow. At least I wouldn’t have to suffer through another heat cycle alone.”
Wang You offered a suggestion, “I know it’s tough. Your heat cycles are long. I can’t imagine how you endured them before. But since you’re going to the wrap party tonight, maybe have a little alcohol and pretend to be drunk. After you get back to the hotel, just take the initiative. Ning Xi likes you. She won’t turn you down.”
Yu Qingxue sounded even more frustrated. “I know her. She’ll definitely reject me unless she’s the one who’s drunk. Only then would I have a chance. But her alcohol tolerance is ridiculously strong.”
Wang You paused for a moment, then asked incredulously, “You’re telling me she would actually reject a gorgeous, sensual woman like you during your heat cycle? Isn’t she already in love with you?”
Yu Qingxue became even more exasperated. “Ning Xi has her principles. Unless we officially confess and confirm our relationship, she wouldn’t touch me even if I stood in front of her without clothes. She’d rather suffer through it herself. Eight days and nights of heat… it’s unbearable. What am I supposed to do, Yoyo?”
Wang You sighed. “Then why don’t you just stop being stubborn and say yes?”
“I’m not being stubborn,” Yu Qingxue pouted. “I just want her to confess first. But who knew she’d chase me for half a month and still not break through that thin layer between us. It’s so frustrating!”
Outside the door, Ning Xi stood frozen.
She had thought Yu Qingxue was enjoying being pursued. That was why she hadn’t confessed yet…
A helpless smile tugged at the corners of Ning Xi’s lips. She turned quietly and walked away from the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Wei Nian suddenly realized what Ning Xi had asked her earlier and panicked. She rushed to the dressing room.
If Yu Qingxue and Wang You had said something that messed up President Yu’s love life and Ning Xi overheard it, she would be to blame forever.
Wei Nian ran to the dressing room door and knocked three times.
“Yoyo, President Yu, it’s me. It’s Wei Nian.”
Inside, Wang You’s eyes lit up when she heard her voice. “I’ll go let her in.”
Yu Qingxue gave her a look. “The door’s not even locked. She could’ve just opened it herself.”
After some fumbling at the door, Wang You and Wei Nian returned hand in hand and sat across from Yu Qingxue.
Yu Qingxue looked at them exchanging glances and finally couldn’t help but speak. “Wei Nian, did you come here just to feed me another round of couple sugar with Wang You?”
Wei Nian quickly straightened her expression and said seriously, “President Yu, just now Ning Xi asked me where you went, and I pointed her this way without thinking. I was afraid she might have overheard something, so I ran over right away.”
Yu Qingxue and Wang You exchanged a glance. What they had said earlier was practically scandalous. Had Ning Xi really heard it?
Suddenly, there was another round of knocks on the door.
Wei Nian stood up. “That must be Ning Xi. I’ll go open it.”
She pulled the door open, only to see Ren Rong, Ning Xi’s assistant, standing outside.
“Teacher Wei, is President Yu inside?” Ren Rong asked.
“She is,” Wei Nian replied. She turned back and said, “President Yu, Ning Xi’s assistant is looking for you.”
“Let her in,” Yu Qingxue responded.
Wei Nian stepped aside to let Ren Rong in. Ren Rong walked over to Yu Qingxue, holding up a cup of milk tea.
“President Yu, Ning sent this for you. She originally wanted to deliver it herself, but Director Jiang needed her for something, so she asked me to bring it instead.”
“She also had a message for you.”
Yu Qingxue took the milk tea, a faint smile forming on her lips. “What did she say?”
Ren Rong glanced at Wang You and Wei Nian. Yu Qingxue said, “It’s fine, just say it. They’re both close to me.”
Ren Rong nodded. “Ning said, ‘The weather’s getting colder tonight. You might run into a certain dramatic young actor, and she was worried you’d be upset. She hopes the milk tea warms you up and sweetens your mood.’”
Across from them, Wei Nian and Wang You sat in stunned silence.
Who was feeding who sugar now?
Yu Qingxue maintained her poise and gave a dignified nod. “I understand. Thank you.”
After Ren Rong left, Wei Nian turned to Wang You and said, “Yoyo, you like roasted chestnuts, right? They’re warm and sweet too. I’ll get some for you later.”
Wang You smiled brightly. “Okay.”
Yu Qingxue paused in silence.
Her best friend was truly too innocent. Just the mention of roasted chestnuts made her this happy.
She glanced at Wei Nian and Wang You, who were leaning sweetly against each other again, then hugged her milk tea and took a sip. The taste was warm and sweet, and it reached straight to her heart.
Ning Xi really was wonderful.
The wrap party for the neighboring drama crew was scheduled for seven o’clock at a mid-range restaurant inside the film studio compound. The restaurant was just across the street from the hotel where the Ask the Demon crew was staying, so it only took ten minutes to walk there.
Before they left, Jiang Yuanxin gave Yu Qingxue a special reminder.
“No matter what someone offers you, do not drink. If anyone insists on a toast, I will drink for you.”
Yu Qingxue nodded. “I understand.”
The five of them arrived at the restaurant together. As they approached, Director Li Chuanxiong of the neighboring crew called Jiang Yuanxin, then quickly came out to welcome them warmly.
“Director Jiang, President Yu, it has been a while. I really did not expect all of you to come. Looks like Zhuoyan really has some influence.”
“Do not give him too much credit. I came for your sake,” Jiang Yuanxin laughed and wrapped an arm around Li Chuanxiong’s shoulder as they walked in. Ning Xi, Yu Qingxue, Wang You, and Wei Nian followed behind.
Li Chuanxiong’s team had booked two large connected private dining rooms for the main cast. The supporting and background actors had a few tables set up in the main hall.
When Lin Zhuoyan saw Li Chuanxiong leading Jiang Yuanxin and the others in, he immediately stood up and came to greet them.
“Director Jiang, Qingxue-jie, you really came.” His eyes sparkled with genuine excitement.
Jiang Yuanxin patted Li Chuanxiong on the shoulder. “It is your Director Li here who has influence. How could we say no?”
With that, he shifted all the credit for the invitation to Li Chuanxiong.
Li Chuanxiong laughed with squinting eyes. “Then I must drink a few good rounds with Director Jiang tonight.”
Lin Zhuoyan’s smile stiffened slightly, and his expression became awkward. Inside, he was already cursing Li Chuanxiong’s entire family.
Li Chuanxiong insisted on seating Jiang Yuanxin and the others at the head table. Jiang tried to refuse but could not. He finally sat down, with Li Chuanxiong to his left. On his right sat Yu Qingxue, followed by Ning Xi, Wang You, and Wei Nian in order.
Lin Zhuoyan sat on the other side next to Li Chuanxiong.
In Li Chuanxiong’s production, Lin Zhuoyan was the only mildly famous actor. The rest were all unknowns. This table was filled with the director, producers, and writers, while the rest of the actors were seated elsewhere.
Li Chuanxiong began the meal by offering three toasts to Jiang Yuanxin with strong baijiu. Jiang followed through with each drink. His face turned bright red in an instant.
Yu Qingxue, being an investor and a key figure, was someone the producers and writers were eager to befriend. If they could get on her good side, she might support their future projects. So after the initial greetings, two writers and two producers brought their drinks over to her.
“I am Wang Fen, just a small-time screenwriter,” one of them said with a respectful smile. “President Yu, I hope you will guide me in the future. I will drink it all. You may drink as much as you like.”
He lifted his glass and drank it all in one go.
Yu Qingxue picked up her wine glass and glanced at Jiang Yuanxin. He was already flushed, his speech slurred as he loudly joked with Li Chuanxiong. Clearly, asking him to shield her from drinks was hopeless.
Yu Qingxue sighed silently. She should have known not to count on his big promises.
Before she could decide what to do, Ning Xi reached over and took the glass from her hand. She gave Wang Fen a polite smile.
“President Yu is not feeling well. I will drink for her.”
She lifted her head and finished the drink cleanly.
“Well done! That is how a real drinker handles it,” said Producer Zhang Haiteng, clearly impressed. “Since President Yu is unwell, we will not push her. You are Ning Xi, right? You have a bright future. Come, let us have a drink together.”
From that moment on, Ning Xi did not refuse a single toast. Baijiu, beer, red wine — she accepted them all. Her cheeks soon turned a warm shade of red.
She leaned toward Yu Qingxue, her gaze unfocused, a sweet warmth in her voice, the scent of alcohol surrounding her.
“Qingxue, I think I am drunk.”
