Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 75
She and Ning Xi were not officially in a relationship, but what they had already felt deeper than love.
Yu Qingxue wondered just how charming Ning Xi would become once she realized she was in love. She looked forward to that day so much that even imagining it made her heart race uncontrollably.
The blush on Yu Qingxue’s face still hadn’t faded by the time breakfast arrived.
But she had already thought of an excuse.
“Qingxue, breakfast is ready,” Ning Xi called softly, placing the meal on the table.
Yu Qingxue lifted the jacket off her face and sat up, revealing her slightly flushed cheeks. Glancing at the coffee table, she smiled naturally and said, “The food looks delicious.”
Ning Xi reached out and lightly touched her cheek. “Your face is red.”
Yu Qingxue replied calmly, “Is it? Maybe it’s just from having the jacket over my head. The air couldn’t circulate and it got a little stuffy.”
This was the first time Ning Xi had seen Yu Qingxue act so poorly. She tried hard not to laugh and nodded seriously. “I see. That explains it.”
Her own acting was not convincing either, but neither of them seemed to notice.
That day, they only had night scenes to film, so the entire day was free.
After breakfast, Yu Qingxue was fully awake. She sat on the sofa swinging her slender legs back and forth. “I don’t feel like sleeping. I’m so bored.”
“There’s a small screening room next to the study,” Ning Xi suggested. “How about we watch a movie? You once promised me we’d watch one of your films together when there was time.”
Back when Yu Qingxue didn’t think much of Ning Xi, she had casually agreed. But now her feelings had changed. In those older films, she either looked unattractive or played characters who were miserable, like beggars or tragic figures with dark pasts. Her roles were either weak, gloomy, or ruthless.
No one wants to show their worst side to the person they like.
Her legs stopped swinging as she hesitated. “What if my movies aren’t even available in there?”
“I already checked,” Ning Xi said without giving her a chance to back out. “Every film you’ve acted in over the years is included.”
Yu Qingxue went quiet.
Ning Xi gently pulled the reluctant Yu Qingxue into the screening room. They sat on the floor. Ning Xi turned on the projector and searched for Yu Qingxue’s name. The screen instantly displayed all the films, dramas, and variety shows she had appeared in.
“I haven’t seen any of these. Do you have a recommendation?” Ning Xi asked, tilting her head slightly.
The room was dim, the only light coming from the screen. Yu Qingxue’s light-colored eyes stayed focused as she carefully looked through the list.
She was seriously trying to find one where her appearance wasn’t too terrible.
“This one,” she finally decided. “The relationships in this film are a bit complex…” She turned to explain to Ning Xi, but when she looked up, her words caught in her throat.
Ning Xi was already watching her, her dark eyes filled with so much gentle warmth that Yu Qingxue forgot what she was going to say.
Ning Xi smiled, took the remote from her hand, and pressed play. She then waved her hand gently in front of Yu Qingxue’s dazed gaze. “The movie has started.”
“Okay,” Yu Qingxue mumbled, her fingertips brushing the texture on her pants as she picked up her explanation. “This film has complicated character dynamics and a lot of plot twists. It caused quite a stir when it came out. It’s considered a decent balance between artistic and commercial storytelling.”
As the film played, neither of them spoke again. They both focused on the screen.
After ten minutes, Yu Qingxue’s character finally appeared.
Seeing her face hidden behind a veil, Yu Qingxue secretly praised her own foresight. She didn’t remove the veil until the final scene, when her scarred face was revealed.
She planned to accidentally hit the remote before that scene so Ning Xi wouldn’t see it.
Over two hours passed and the film reached its final moments. Yu Qingxue’s character was about to remove the veil.
She hadn’t been watching the movie seriously, only waiting for this part.
She reached out, trying to feel for the remote so she could press the stop button. Her hand brushed against the soft carpet, but the remote was nowhere in sight.
She reached further left and accidentally touched Ning Xi’s leg.
Without looking away from the screen, Ning Xi caught her hand and said calmly, “Finish the movie first. You can touch whatever you want later.”
Yu Qingxue was speechless. That was not what she meant at all.
The scene she had wanted to avoid finally arrived. On the screen, the girl lifted her veil and revealed the terrifying scars beneath.
Yu Qingxue immediately felt Ning Xi’s grip on her hand tighten.
It was over. Ning Xi must have been scared. She should have held on to the remote from the beginning.
Now it was too late for regrets.
As the movie ended, the lights in the room came back on.
Yu Qingxue didn’t dare look at Ning Xi’s expression. She was afraid of seeing fear in her eyes.
“That was terrifying,” Ning Xi said quietly, placing Yu Qingxue’s hand over her own heart.
Yu Qingxue responded with a low voice, “It really was.” Even she found it disturbing, let alone Ning Xi.
“I’m just glad you’re not An Qi,” Ning Xi said.
“She was so hideous. How could I be her?” Yu Qingxue looked down at the rug beneath them.
“It’s not about looks,” Ning Xi said gently. “You’re so afraid of pain. You would never survive something like that. I’m just thankful you aren’t her, that you didn’t have to suffer like she did.”
She reached out and softly touched Yu Qingxue’s cheek.
Yu Qingxue looked at her in surprise. “You don’t think the scars on An Qi’s face were scary?”
“I only felt heartache,” Ning Xi said. “But that’s because it was you playing her. If it had been someone else, I probably would have thought An Qi brought it on herself. She got what she wanted and paid the price for it.”
Yu Qingxue stared at her, stunned. “Ning Xi, I…”
Suddenly, the phone rang loudly.
The moment was interrupted.
Yu Qingxue picked up her phone and opened WeChat. “It’s a message from Guan Yujing.”
“What did Mrs. Guan say?” Ning Xi asked.
Yu Qingxue placed her phone between them so she and Ning Xi could read Guan Yujing’s messages together.
Guan Yujing: There’s no record of Lin Zhuoyan making any large transfers or repeated small ones recently. His assistant and staff were also checked, and nothing suspicious came up.
Guan Yujing: But I started digging into Jiangjiang Entertainment News and found that they received a large payment from a company called Star Entertainment. The legal owner of the company is Lin Yuanchen. Not long ago, he was publicly pursuing Lin Zhuoyan, though it didn’t lead anywhere. It’s possible they’re still in contact or may even be in a relationship now.
Guan Yujing: What we need to do now is find someone to investigate the connection between Lin Zhuoyan and Lin Yuanchen.
Guan Yujing: [Image] This is the transfer record from Star Entertainment.
Yu Qingxue: Got it. I’ll find someone to look into it right away.
Yu Qingxue: Thanks, Yujing.
Guan Yujing: You’re welcome.
Ning Xi looked at her and asked, “How do you plan to investigate Lin Zhuoyan and Lin Yuanchen?”
Yu Qingxue replied, “Use their own methods against them.”
In other words, hire professionals. Paparazzi.
The publicity department of Yu Qingxue’s Six Gates Entertainment had strong connections with several top paparazzi. She called Fan Weixi and gave him the instructions. Fan Weixi then told the head of the publicity department to contact every lead paparazzo and bring them in for a meeting. Within two hours, dozens of experienced paparazzi were already following Lin Zhuoyan and Lin Yuanchen. If the two had any contact at all, it would not go unnoticed.
The scenes for the Wulin Conference would be shot last. The scenes scheduled for tonight took place after the conference in the story timeline.
In the plot, Feng Yunyan discovered that she was the biological daughter of the former Saintess He Mengyan, and her father was the former leader of the demonic cult.
The current Saintess, Dong Lingxue, was a girl He Mengyan had adopted.
After giving birth to Feng Yunyan, He Mengyan had been seriously injured. Though she was saved by the Wulin Alliance, she was told she could no longer have children. In order to pass down the Jade Heartless Sutra, He Mengyan began adopting abandoned baby girls.
She raised each child until the age of five and then selected the one with the best talent to become her successor.
Dong Lingxue was the girl she chose.
At first, He Mengyan treated all the girls equally with care. But once Dong Lingxue was chosen, her attitude changed completely. The cultivation of the Jade Heartless Sutra required emotional detachment, so He Mengyan began treating Dong Lingxue with cold indifference.
Dong Lingxue had only been five years old at the time. She had no idea what had changed. All she could do was watch He Mengyan treat the other girls warmly while ignoring her.
The more a person is denied something, the more they long for it.
What Dong Lingxue longed for most was love. A powerful, overwhelming love filled with deep desire.
She trained in the emotionless sutra, all while hoping someone would give her the kind of love that left her breathless. That desire was finally fulfilled when she met Feng Yunyan.
But Dong Lingxue always reminded herself of who she was and tried to resist her feelings for Feng Yunyan.
“Scene fifty-four, one take. Mark.”
“Action.”
Feng Yunyan blocked Dong Lingxue’s path, standing right in front of her. Her breath was warm as it fell softly against Dong Lingxue’s face.
Dong Lingxue trembled slightly, but her face remained calm. Her lowered eyelashes hid the flicker of emotion in her eyes. She said coldly, “Feng Yunyan, there’s still time to stop. The Wulin Alliance is not like the smaller sects. Your demonic cult cannot destroy them.”
Feng Yunyan lowered her head and gently kissed her lashes. A sly smile formed on her lips. Her dark eyes were deep and unreadable.
“Lingxue, are you worried about me?” Her voice was soft. “Don’t worry. I won’t die before I win your heart.”
Dong Lingxue pressed her lips together and didn’t speak. Only she could feel how fast her heart was racing and how unsteady it made her feel.
Feng Yunyan kissed her eyes again. “Lingxue, stop trying to escape me. You can’t run away from me.”
