Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 71
Ning Xi insisted on feeding Yu Qingxue. Yu Qingxue looked at her, let out a soft sigh, and in the end, chose not to refuse.
Yu Qingxue only took up to three bites of each dish. Ning Xi carefully controlled the portion and gently brought each bite to her mouth. After swallowing a piece of crisp shrimp, Yu Qingxue smiled and said, “You’re spoiling me. I’m already starting to worry about what I’ll do when filming ends and you’re not around.”
Ning Xi quickly wiped the sauce from the corner of her lips with a napkin and said seriously, “We can get married.”
Yu Qingxue was slightly stunned. Her heart pounded hard, and for a moment she almost said yes. She pressed her lips together and said, “No, we can’t get married without love. That would not be fair to either of us. You don’t even want a relationship. How could you be okay with marriage?”
Ning Xi looked at her and replied, “If the person I’m marrying is you, then I can accept it. Even after marriage, we can still live like friends. And you won’t have to worry about anyone else feeding you.”
Yu Qingxue lowered her eyes and avoided Ning Xi’s gaze. She was afraid that if she looked at her, she might actually give in.
But she knew she could not do that. What she wanted was not just marriage. She wanted Ning Xi to love her.
Living like friends after marriage was not what she truly wanted.
“No. I don’t want to marry you. You’re only saying that because you’re worried I might get pregnant. I was joking earlier. When we get back, I’ll take birth control. I won’t get pregnant. You may not want a relationship, but I do. Marriage would only weigh me down. And besides, I like Omegas. Even if I did get married, I wouldn’t marry an Alpha like you. That would be dishonest.”
Yu Qingxue placed the spoon in Ning Xi’s hand and said, “I want to drink the crab roe tofu soup.”
Ning Xi had already expected that she might be rejected, but hearing it still left her feeling empty inside.
That emptiness did not begin with Yu Qingxue’s refusal. It had been there long before, maybe even before she found herself in this story. It had always been there, just quiet and easy to ignore. She had lived with it so long that it became normal. But now, it was growing stronger, and she found herself struggling to adjust to it.
“Can we still be friends?” Ning Xi asked as she brought the spoonful of soup to Yu Qingxue’s lips.
Yu Qingxue took the spoon into her mouth, gently pulled away, swallowed, and said, “Of course. Do you really think I’d stop being friends with you over something like this?”
“Ning Xi, I’m serious. Forgetting is the best thing we can do. We’re both adults. One night, or rather eight nights of craziness, doesn’t mean anything.”
Ning Xi went silent for a moment, then nodded and said, “Alright. I promise I’ll forget it. We’ll still be friends.”
Yu Qingxue smiled, her lips curving in satisfaction. “That’s more like it.” She pointed to another dish and casually told Ning Xi to feed her that one next.
Ning Xi quietly fed Yu Qingxue until she was done eating, then finally sat across from her and began eating her own meal.
She suspected that Yu Qingxue’s sudden heat had something to do with Lin Zhuoyan, but she did not have any proof yet.
She decided to talk to Yu Qingxue about it once they returned to the hotel. Maybe Yu Qingxue had noticed something strange as well.
As for the reasons Yu Qingxue gave for refusing to marry her, Ning Xi did not fully believe them. For example, she already knew the relationship between Yu Qingxue and Wang You was fake. And there were many doubts surrounding her claim that she only liked Omegas.
Ning Xi vaguely recalled what had happened over the past eight days. Yu Qingxue’s awkward and hesitant movements clearly showed she had never been intimate with anyone before. Most people remember their first time very clearly. There was no way Yu Qingxue was as unaffected as she pretended to be.
She had only said those things to help Ning Xi feel less guilty.
The thought made Ning Xi’s heart ache, as if something had gently pierced it. The pain was not overwhelming, but it lingered in a quiet and persistent way that she could not ignore.
While Ning Xi was still eating, the bar owner and Yu Qingxue’s friend, He Ling, finally appeared.
He was an average-height man with a naturally friendly smile. He walked over and gave Yu Qingxue a hug, then joked, “Aren’t you going to introduce me to the Alpha who just spent eight passionate days and nights with you?”
Yu Qingxue gave him a light pat on the arm, her cheeks flushing slightly. “Stop making things up. We’re just friends. It’s not like what you’re thinking.”
To stop He Ling from saying anything else inappropriate, she quickly added, “Ning Xi, don’t take him seriously. He always speaks without thinking. He’s my friend, He Ling, the owner of this bar. He’s a male Omega. I used to come here a lot during filming, and we became friends over time.”
“This is Ning Xi, also a friend of mine. She’s a female Alpha. We’re currently filming in the same production.”
When Ning Xi heard that He Ling was an Omega, she stayed in her seat and simply nodded. She did not offer the warm and gentle smile she usually showed others.
He Ling, however, acted as if he did not notice her distant attitude. He walked up to her with a big smile and held out his hand. There was a playful sparkle in his eyes. “This is the first time I’ve met one of Qingxue’s Alpha friends. Come on, shake hands.”
From the corner of her eye, Ning Xi noticed Yu Qingxue’s lips pout ever so slightly. She looked a little unhappy that He Ling was getting so close.
Ning Xi shook his hand and said, “Calling me her friend isn’t exactly accurate. Let me reintroduce myself. I’m Qingxue’s girlfriend. Ning Xi.”
“I knew it,” He Ling said excitedly. He spun back toward Yu Qingxue and said, “Unbelievable. You got yourself a girlfriend and didn’t tell me. You even tried to trick me earlier. What is this? Were you planning to cut me off completely?”
Yu Qingxue glanced at Ning Xi. Her heart felt sweet and full, but she pretended to sound helpless as she said, “I’ve already left the entertainment industry, so it doesn’t matter for me. But Ning Xi just started and this is her first film. If news about a relationship gets out, it would be bad for her. It’s fine if you know, but you’re not allowed to tell anyone else.”
He Ling looked at her with doubt in his eyes. “Really?”
“Really. Why would I lie to you?” Yu Qingxue replied with a face full of sincerity.
He Ling silently thought, didn’t you just lie to me a minute ago?
Ning Xi noticed the brief flash of happiness in Yu Qingxue’s eyes.
Instead of being angry that she had told a lie in front of her friend, Yu Qingxue seemed a little pleased. Why was that?
Thinking about everything that had happened recently, Ning Xi felt like the truth was getting closer. It was as if she only had to take a few more steps through the light mist in front of her to reach it.
On the way back to the hotel, Yu Qingxue looked out the window. She spoke in a casual tone, as if she were asking without much thought, “Why did you suddenly tell He Ling that you’re my girlfriend?”
Ning Xi saw the tips of Yu Qingxue’s ears turning red and felt a small stir in her heart.
