Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 72
Ning Xi suddenly had a thought. What if Yu Qingxue liked her?
She had never considered that possibility before. From the beginning, Yu Qingxue had always acted cold toward her. Even after they became friends, her behavior had never seemed special. In fact, she had even gone as far as putting on a show with Wang You, pretending they were in a relationship.
Later, Yu Qingxue and Wang You broke up because he cheated. Ning Xi had only focused on comforting Yu Qingxue and never thought beyond that.
But just now, everything suddenly made sense. It all clicked at once. She finally understood what Yu Qingxue had been doing all along.
Yes, it had all been intentional.
Everything Yu Qingxue had done, even pretending to be in love with Wang You, had been part of a plan. A plan to draw her in.
And the reason behind it was that Yu Qingxue liked her.
How do you make someone who is not interested in love fall in love with you? Being kind to them is not enough. That only creates gratitude, not love.
So Yu Qingxue created a story. She made Ning Xi feel sympathy. She made her feel protective.
If it had not been for the unexpected turn of events, Ning Xi would have eventually figured it out on her own. The truth was always there, just waiting for her to notice.
Someone as careful as Yu Qingxue would never let so many obvious flaws slip through unless it was on purpose. Those mistakes had been placed there for Ning Xi to find.
Ning Xi looked at Yu Qingxue’s face reflected in the car window. Her heart beat faster. She could feel the heat rising in her body.
Her dark eyes sparkled like stars. She smiled and said, “I don’t know why. It just felt right in the moment.”
That really had been her honest thought at the time.
But now she understood the real reason why she said it.
It was not just Yu Qingxue who had feelings. She did too. She just had not realized it until now.
Ning Xi was not sure how deep her feelings went, but she knew she did not want Yu Qingxue to feel hurt or unhappy. Not even for a second.
Yu Qingxue did not like it when other Omegas tried to get close to Ning Xi. And Ning Xi had been willing to give up her usual politeness and act cold in order to spare Yu Qingxue’s feelings.
She had always been polite, even when she did not want the attention. She never wanted to be rude. But earlier, when He Ling got too close, she realized she could give all of that up if it meant protecting Yu Qingxue’s feelings.
Yu Qingxue was never just a friend to her. She had been too slow to see it before.
After hearing Ning Xi’s answer, Yu Qingxue turned her head and met her gaze. For a moment, she froze. Then she looked away in a panic and said, “Well done. Your instincts helped you avoid a future admirer. You should trust them more often.”
When they returned to the hotel, Yu Qingxue kept reaching for her lower back. Ning Xi noticed and walked over. She gently wrapped her arm around Yu Qingxue’s waist and asked, “Would it feel better if you leaned on me?”
Yu Qingxue glanced around carefully. When she saw that no one else was nearby, she leaned against Ning Xi’s body.
Ning Xi’s palm was warm. The heat passed through the fabric and soothed the aching muscles in Yu Qingxue’s waist.
Once they were in the room, Ning Xi said, “Go change into your pajamas. I’ll give you a massage.”
Yu Qingxue’s expression softened, and a small smile appeared in her eyes. “Alright.”
She went into the bedroom to change. Ning Xi watched her walk away and smiled to herself. She wondered how she could have been so slow to understand all this before. Yu Qingxue often pretended to be indifferent, but if you looked closely, it was easy to see she did not mean it.
Yu Qingxue returned wearing a pink silk nightdress. The hem reached her knees, but when she lay down, it rode up a few inches higher.
Ning Xi leaned down and placed her hands on Yu Qingxue’s waist. She started with gentle pressure, slowly increasing the force. Yu Qingxue let out a satisfied sigh.
“Good thing you’re here,” she said. “Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t be able to film tonight.”
Ning Xi replied, “Your back only hurts because of me. If I can help you feel better, then I should.”
Yu Qingxue closed her eyes lazily, a soft smile on her lips. “I told you already, I don’t blame you. If my pheromone suppressant hadn’t suddenly failed, none of this would have happened.”
Ning Xi continued massaging and asked, “When does your heat cycle usually start? Why did the suppressant stop working so suddenly? At the time, there were no Alpha pheromones in the room. Mine didn’t release until after yours.”
As she spoke, Yu Qingxue suddenly realized something. Ning Xi had stayed with her for eight full days and nights. Aside from a bit of exhaustion, she seemed completely fine.
They had not even eaten during that time.
A normal Alpha’s susceptibility period lasts only about three days. How could Ning Xi last for eight?
Yu Qingxue sat up a little and turned to face her. “What about you? When is your susceptibility period?”
Ning Xi no longer wanted to hide anything. Yu Qingxue had the right to know.
“My susceptibility period starts at eight in the morning on the sixth and ends at eight in the morning on the fifteenth. It lasts for ten days. On the seventh, my suppressant failed when I smelled your pheromones.”
Yu Qingxue blinked. “You have a ten-day susceptibility period?”
“Yes,” Ning Xi said. “I know it sounds strange, but that’s the truth.”
Yu Qingxue went quiet for a moment, then lay back down and rested her head on her arm. Her voice was soft and full of disbelief.
“My heat cycle also lasts ten days. The dates are exactly the same as yours, except mine starts at one in the afternoon.”
One reason Yu Qingxue had avoided dating Alphas was because of how long her heat cycles lasted. She had asked a doctor about it, and they told her that unless the Alpha had very strong pheromones, they would become exhausted during bonding and might even suffer serious health risks. Almost no Alpha could handle a ten-day cycle.
After she fell for Ning Xi, she had come up with a plan. She would use pheromone suppressants during the first three days, endure four days alone, and only spend the last three days with Ning Xi.
She never expected that one accident would not only bring her closer to Ning Xi, but also reveal that their cycles matched almost exactly.
What an unbelievable surprise.
Ning Xi suddenly remembered what Dr. Zhen Qiuyun had told her before. He said he knew of an Omega with a ten-day heat cycle and had wanted to introduce her. When she refused, he warned that she might regret it. Could that Omega have been Yu Qingxue?
“If this were a novel,” Yu Qingxue said softly, “you and I would be the perfect couple written by fate. Not getting married would disappoint the readers.”
Ning Xi snapped out of her thoughts and asked, “So, does that mean you’re willing to marry me?”
Yu Qingxue answered right away. “No. I already told you my reasons. Physical needs are one thing, but emotional needs are just as important. If I have to choose, I think emotional connection matters more.”
She shifted her body and said, “Now hurry up with the massage. I want to take a nap.”
Ning Xi looked down at Yu Qingxue’s waist and gently pulled her nightdress back into place. She continued her massage and asked softly, “Can you really not accept being with an Alpha?”
Yu Qingxue’s voice was muffled as she replied from the sofa. “I don’t know. I’ve never dated an Alpha. Maybe I can, maybe I can’t.”
Ning Xi nodded silently. Knowing Yu Qingxue’s habit of saying the opposite of what she felt, that probably meant she could.
Ning Xi continued massaging for about thirty minutes. Yu Qingxue was so relaxed by the end that her whole body felt light and weak. She stood up slowly and lazily thanked Ning Xi before heading back to her room to rest.
Ning Xi, strangely alert, felt no sleepiness at all. She went to the cabinet, pulled out a pen and paper, and returned to the sofa. She laid the paper on the coffee table and began writing out her next plan.
Ning Xi had more or less figured out how she truly felt about Yu Qingxue.
She definitely liked her. It was more than friendship but not quite love yet. If she put in the effort to grow and strengthen their connection, and if Yu Qingxue was willing, they had a one hundred percent chance of becoming a couple.
Up until now, it had always been Yu Qingxue making the effort in their relationship. From this point forward, it was Ning Xi’s turn.
This time, she would be the one to pursue Yu Qingxue.
At nine in the evening, Ning Xi gently woke Yu Qingxue and fed her dinner. By ten o’clock, the two of them left together for the set.
On their way to the dressing room, they happened to run into Wang You and Wei Nian.
As soon as Wang You saw Yu Qingxue, he frowned and flared his nostrils, as if trying to smell something.
Ning Xi casually put her arm around Yu Qingxue’s waist and greeted them both. “Long time no see. How have you two been these past few days?”
Wang You had used a pheromone suppressant, so he had recovered his strength. Wei Nian, still a student, could not afford one and had to tough it out. Even after a full day of rest, he was still walking unsteadily.
As Yu Qingxue’s so-called ex, Wang You stepped forward with a bitter expression and snapped, “Did Ning Xi mark you? Didn’t you say you didn’t like Alphas? So you were lying to me all along. Breaking up with you was the best decision I ever made.”
Yu Qingxue blinked, confused.
She had not even told him yet. How did he find out?
And this whole scene felt exaggerated. Wang You’s reaction was overly dramatic.
Of course. Without her writing the script, these supporting characters always ended up with plot holes.
Yu Qingxue’s face went pale. She quickly denied it. “What are you talking about? I only just started dating Ning Xi. How could she have marked me already?”
Wang You stood on tiptoes and grabbed the collar of her shirt, trying to get close enough to sniff the back of her neck.
Ning Xi, well aware of how potent her pheromones were, immediately pushed Wang You away. Her face was cold as she said to Wei Nian, “Control your Omega.”
Under her sharp presence, sweat formed on Wei Nian’s forehead. He nodded nervously. “Yes, of course.”
“Let’s go, Sister Youyou,” he said, pulling Wang You away. Wang You kept glaring over her shoulder at Yu Qingxue, as if she had been betrayed.
After they walked away, Ning Xi turned back and gently touched the back of Yu Qingxue’s neck.
The gland that had been bitten multiple times by her sharp fangs was now extremely sensitive. Yu Qingxue trembled slightly. She would have stumbled if Ning Xi had not been holding her waist.
“Don’t touch my gland so casually,” Yu Qingxue said softly, her cheeks flushed and her eyes watery.
Ning Xi had not realized Omega glands were that sensitive. She quickly pulled her hand back and apologized. “Sorry. I thought once the bite marks healed, it would be just like normal skin.”
Yu Qingxue leaned on her shoulder, breathing a little unevenly, and only after a moment did she lift her head. “I didn’t know it would be like that either. What were you going to say to me?”
When Ning Xi looked down, she saw the tear-lined lashes fluttering on Yu Qingxue’s cheeks. A sudden urge rose in her chest to kiss those tears away.
She took a breath to steady herself, then said, “After an Omega is marked by an Alpha, the gland stores the Alpha’s pheromones for a while. They remain until the next heat cycle. I was wondering if other Omegas can smell them on you.”
If they could, then wouldn’t any Omega who got close to Yu Qingxue risk falling for her because of the pheromones?
Yu Qingxue explained, “Whether other Omegas can smell it depends on the concentration of the Alpha’s pheromones. The higher the concentration, the less effective the gland’s natural barrier. With yours, I’d say any Omega who gets within half a meter of me can probably smell it.”
Ning Xi was speechless. She had not expected that her pheromones could affect other Omegas too.
“You don’t want others smelling your pheromones on me?” Yu Qingxue asked.
Ning Xi nodded. “No. One person is enough. I only want you.”
Even after smelling her pheromones, Yu Qingxue’s attitude had not changed much.
In the original story, the main character had tried to seduce Yu Qingxue with her pheromones, only to be labeled a creep and treated like an enemy ever after.
This likely meant Yu Qingxue was immune to the original character’s scent.
Ning Xi did not want anyone else falling for her because of her pheromones. Yu Qingxue was the only one who would not be affected. That made her unique.
Yu Qingxue’s cheeks turned pink. “Why are you saying such flirty things all of a sudden? Wang You’s not here. You don’t need to keep acting.”
“I’m not acting,” Ning Xi said. “I meant what I said.”
She then asked, “Is there a way to prevent others from smelling my pheromones in your gland?”
Yu Qingxue nodded. “Yes. I can use a pheromone patch over my gland. I already put one on.”
That explained why she had not flinched when Wang You tried to smell her neck. He would not have been able to detect anything.
Yu Qingxue had already decided that Ning Xi belonged to her. She did not want to share even a trace of her scent with anyone else.
When they arrived at the dressing room, two makeup artists were already waiting inside. Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue each took their seats. As the artists began their work, Yu Qingxue adjusted her phone to privacy mode and opened her messages.
She sent a WeChat to Wang You.
Yu Qingxue: Girl! How did you know just now? I was wearing a pheromone patch. Did you actually smell Ning Xi’s pheromones?
Wang You: Please. You could barely stand and yet you looked like someone glowing from a fresh dose of pheromones. Do I even need to smell anything? It was obvious.
Wang You: I thought you hadn’t even caught Ning Xi yet. How did you end up getting marked?
Yu Qingxue: It was an accident. We were in He Ling’s private lounge at the bar. The door locked automatically, and only someone with the room card could enter. My pheromone suppressant failed out of nowhere. Ning Xi was also in her susceptibility phase. My pheromones affected her, and her suppressant failed too. Then we just… well, you know.
Wang You: So what now? Is she going to take responsibility?
Yu Qingxue: She wants to marry me… but I turned her down.
Wang You: Why? Don’t tell me you’re just playing with her and planning to leave her hanging.
Yu Qingxue: Of course not. I want to take responsibility. I want to marry her. But she doesn’t love me yet.
Wang You: Ever heard of the phrase “marry first, fall in love later”? Just lock her down first, then win her over. She’ll love you in the end.
Yu Qingxue: Wait… you can do that? I didn’t think of that. I messed up!
The makeup artists finished their work and left the room. Ning Xi went to change into her costume.
Yu Qingxue looked at the chat history on her phone and sighed.
Now she was wondering if it was still possible to say yes to marriage before it was too late.
