Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 63
After finishing the morning shoot, Jiang Yuanxin called Wang You and Yu Qingxue over to praise their performances. He also took a moment to compliment Ning Xi and Wei Nian for arriving early to observe and study the filming process.
Once Jiang Yuanxin finished speaking, Ning Xi looked at him with curiosity and asked, “Director Jiang, I’m really curious about you and Lawyer Lan. How long have you been together?”
Jiang Yuanxin lifted his hand and started counting on his fingers. “Let me see. We’ve been together for around eight years now. Or maybe seven.”
Ning Xi continued, “Who confessed first?”
“That would definitely be me. Lan Xia is good at playing tricks on me,” Jiang Yuanxin replied with a warm smile that clearly showed his affection.
Wang You listened and felt something wasn’t right. These were the exact same questions Ning Xi had asked her earlier.
Then Ning Xi smiled and asked, “You must remember what Lawyer Lan was wearing when you confessed.”
Jiang Yuanxin looked a little embarrassed. “It’s been seven or eight years. How could I possibly remember something like that?”
Wang You stood quietly, feeling a bit annoyed.
Why is it that I still remember clearly after ten years?
Ning Xi used Jiang Yuanxin’s love story as a comparison and gave Wang You a gentle smile. She didn’t say anything else.
All afternoon, every time Ning Xi looked at Wang You, she smiled. This made Wang You extremely nervous. It got to the point where she felt like she was developing a fear of Ning Xi’s smile.
The uncertainty was unbearable. If Ning Xi had already figured out she was lying, why didn’t she just say it? That would have been easier to handle.
After filming ended, Wang You and Yu Qingxue were allowed to return to the hotel and rest.
While Yu Qingxue was in the makeup room removing her makeup, Ning Xi told her about Wang You and Wei Nian getting back together.
Seeing the disbelief in Yu Qingxue’s light-colored eyes, Ning Xi said calmly, “I noticed it this morning. At first, they didn’t admit anything, but I saw them wearing matching couple necklaces. Eventually, they told me the truth.”
“How could Wang You do this?” Yu Qingxue’s voice trembled slightly, mixed with anger, sadness, disappointment, and confusion.
Ning Xi gently patted her shoulder and said, “What happened clearly shows that Wang You is not someone you can trust with your future.”
Yu Qingxue looked dazed and slowly nodded. She forced a smile and said, “My mind’s a bit of a mess right now. I think I’ll go back to the hotel and be alone for a while. I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can keep you company tonight.”
Ning Xi watched her leave and couldn’t help but be amused by how flawless her acting was.
“You can go, but please don’t overthink while you’re alone at the hotel. Promise me that,” Ning Xi said with concern.
Yu Qingxue felt a warm sensation rise in her chest and softly replied, “I promise.”
That evening, Ning Xi had a scene with Wei Nian. When Jiang Yuanxin called them over to go through the script, Ning Xi once again asked about his relationship with Lan Xia.
“Director Jiang, what exactly do you like about Lawyer Lan?” she asked.
Jiang Yuanxin laughed and waved his hand. “Love is a feeling. It’s hard to explain. All I know is that when I see Lan Xia, my heart feels full of joy.”
After the conversation ended, Ning Xi turned to Wei Nian with a smile. Wei Nian immediately felt nervous.
She had never been in a real relationship. The things she said to Ning Xi earlier were just made-up answers from the script.
How was she supposed to know that love isn’t about liking every part of someone’s body? And yet that morning, she had told Ning Xi she loved every single part of Wang You.
“It seems like your feelings for Wang You aren’t as deep as you claimed,” Ning Xi said with a meaningful expression.
Wei Nian forced herself to stay calm and replied, “Everyone sees love differently. Director Jiang has been in love for years, so of course his understanding is deeper than mine.”
Ning Xi nodded and said, “That makes sense.”
Even so, Wei Nian couldn’t relax. She was terrified that Ning Xi might suddenly catch another inconsistency in her story.
Because she was so nervous and focused, she got through the entire scene without making a single mistake. Ning Xi didn’t slip up either. It was a clean take from beginning to end. Only after seeing Ning Xi take off her makeup, change her clothes, and leave the set in her van did Wei Nian finally relax. Her heart finally settled down.
Later, when Jiang Yuanxin returned to the lounge and saw Wei Nian standing still like she was in a trance, he walked over and patted her on the back.
“Today’s scene was emotionally heavy. I wasn’t worried about Ning Xi, but I thought you would need at least seven or eight takes. I didn’t expect you to get through it in one. Well done. You’ve improved a lot. You have potential.”
Wei Nian quickly bowed and said, “Thank you, Director Jiang.”
After he left, she thought back on her performance.
Her emotions during the shoot had matched the character’s perfectly, which was probably why things went so well.
Was Ning Xi trying to scare her on purpose?
When Ning Xi returned to the hotel, she opened the door and found the living room completely dark. Only the streetlights outside the floor-to-ceiling window gave off a faint glow.
Had Yu Qingxue forgotten to leave a light on? Or had she cried herself to sleep and simply not noticed?
Ning Xi switched on the main light. The crystal chandelier above lit up the room like daytime.
She was about to check Yu Qingxue’s bedroom when something caught her eye near the window.
Yu Qingxue was sitting on the floor in front of the window, quietly drinking.
Empty bottles were scattered around her. Her cheeks were flushed a deep red, clearly showing she had drunk a lot.
Ning Xi took off her coat and tossed it onto the coat rack. She quickly walked over to her and crouched down, gently holding her slender wrist.
“Stop drinking.”
Yu Qingxue looked up slowly, her eyes foggy. She narrowed her eyes, trying to focus, then reached out and grabbed Ning Xi’s collar, pulling her closer.
“Who are you? Why do you think you can tell me what to do?”
Ning Xi followed the pull and leaned in slightly, but she didn’t let go of her wrist.
Their faces were just a few inches apart. Yu Qingxue’s breath, thick with the smell of alcohol, brushed against Ning Xi’s skin.
Ning Xi wasn’t sure if Yu Qingxue was really drunk or just pretending. She had always had a low tolerance, and there were plenty of empty bottles around. It seemed likely she was actually drunk.
But it was also possible that she had poured out the alcohol and was just acting. Maybe the blush on her cheeks was just makeup.
Ning Xi reached out with her other hand and gently wiped Yu Qingxue’s cheek.
Her fingers came away clean. No trace of blush.
So, she really was drunk.
Yu Qingxue frowned when Ning Xi didn’t respond. The haze in her eyes deepened.
“You’re not allowed to control me, do you hear me?” she mumbled. Then she let go of Ning Xi’s collar.
“Go away.”
She pushed against Ning Xi’s shoulder to make her move, but Ning Xi was still holding her wrist. As a result, when Yu Qingxue pushed her, both of them lost balance and fell.
Yu Qingxue landed right in Ning Xi’s arms.
The wine glass in her hand spilled onto the carpet, soaking a large area. Ning Xi’s back came into contact with the wet carpet and was quickly drenched.
Ning Xi frowned, let go of Yu Qingxue’s wrist, and reached for the wine glass in her hand.
Yu Qingxue seemed dazed. She didn’t resist and let Ning Xi take the glass away without a struggle.
“Back at the set, you promised me so seriously, and now you’re back here hurting yourself.”
Ning Xi was still holding Yu Qingxue and couldn’t sit up, so she gently shifted their position. Supporting the back of Yu Qingxue’s head with one hand, she carefully rolled them over to switch places.
This time, she managed to sit up.
But Yu Qingxue clung tightly to her collar, refusing to let her go.
“Ning Xi…” Yu Qingxue’s eyes began to well with tears as she looked up at her, pitiful and fragile.
Ning Xi’s heart softened. She stopped moving and asked gently, “You recognize me now?”
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have drunk that much.”
Her delicate voice was soft and almost like a plea. Ning Xi felt a faint tingle at the back of her scalp.
“How about we sit up and talk, okay?” Ning Xi spoke in a coaxing tone.
“Sit up?” Yu Qingxue loosened her grip, and just as Ning Xi started to rise, she suddenly reached out and wrapped her arms around Ning Xi’s neck, her voice trembling with tears.
“Ning Xi, let me hold you, please. I really feel so terrible right now.”
Ning Xi paused. If Yu Qingxue brought up Wang You, then this whole scene was definitely an act.
“Wang You… why did she have to treat me like that?” Yu Qingxue’s voice was filled with pain. “All these years since she debuted, I’ve always shared my resources with her. Even with this drama, Ask the Demon, I gave her the role of the third lead without giving anyone else a chance. I treated her so well, and she betrayed me once, and now she’s with Wei Nian again. When you told me about it earlier, I felt like something inside me just shattered.”
She leaned her cheek against Ning Xi’s neck. Tears rolled down, falling onto Ning Xi’s skin, burning hot.
Ning Xi was afraid of putting pressure on her and used her arms to hold herself up. But Yu Qingxue kept holding her tighter and pulling her down.
With a sigh, Ning Xi said, “Qingxue, can we please sit up? You can still hold me. I’ll still comfort you. It’ll just be more comfortable.”
“I want to stay like this.” Yu Qingxue pressed her tear-streaked face against Ning Xi’s neck again. “This way I feel safe. Just for tonight, please let me stay like this.”
Ning Xi gave in. She couldn’t hold herself up any longer and let her full weight rest on Yu Qingxue. She could feel her heart beating faster beneath her. Concerned, Ning Xi said, “I’m afraid you can’t handle it. I’m heavier than you.”
Yu Qingxue’s body was so delicate that even sitting for too long made her feel weak. Ning Xi truly worried that her weight might hurt her.
But Yu Qingxue shook her head. “No, I want this. Don’t move. Just for a little while.”
Ning Xi didn’t reply right away.
Yu Qingxue looked up at her sadly and asked, “Ning Xi, are you mad at me? Is that why you don’t want to hold me? I just want a hug, that’s all.”
Ning Xi stayed quiet. Yu Qingxue acting like this was undeniably cute, but how long was this scene going to last?
“I’m not mad at you,” Ning Xi said calmly. “I’m just worried about your body.”
She thought for a moment and came up with an idea.
“How about we switch positions? You lie on top instead. I’m strong. I can take it.”
