Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 56
At noon, Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue arrived at the filming set right on time. After finishing their makeup and changing into costumes, they were ready to begin shooting. Director Jiang Yuanxin was still whispering with screenwriter Yang Huaigeng as they huddled over the script.
Everyone waited for ten minutes before Jiang Yuanxin finally looked up. Holding a megaphone, he announced, “We’re making some changes to this scene. Crew, go to Team B and bring over Wang You and Wei Nian to shoot with us.”
Ning Xi immediately turned to Yu Qingxue and said, “I’ll go talk to Director Jiang.”
Yu Qingxue shook her head. “No need. We have to face it eventually.”
Yang Huaigeng typed away quickly on his laptop, the sound of his fingers tapping on the keyboard filling the space. Before long, he had revised the script.
“Director Jiang, come take a look. If it’s good, I’ll have it printed.”
Jiang Yuanxin walked over with his megaphone, read through the changes, and nodded in approval. “If it’s written by Writer Yang, it’s guaranteed to be excellent. One word, brilliant.”
Once the script was printed, Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue found a quiet place to sit and review their lines.
Over at Team B’s set, Wei Nian stretched her body before jogging over to Wang You. She said, “It’s been hours and I still feel nervous. There really is a difference between Alphas. If I’m a Grade A, Ning Xi must be an SSS grade.”
Wang You clutched her chest and said, “My heart has been racing nonstop. Even when I sit still, it won’t slow down.”
The two of them, equally shaken, sighed in unison.
“Feels like the finale already,” Wei Nian muttered. “I used to enjoy intense performances. Now I don’t feel that way at all.”
Wang You glanced at her sympathetically. “You’re too naive. This isn’t the finale. The show will only truly wrap up when Qingxue and Ning Xi end up together. This is just a minor climax. There’s no way it ends here.”
Wei Nian stared in disbelief. “You’re serious?”
Wang You nodded firmly. “Trust me. I know Qingxue. This is far from over.”
Before Wei Nian could close her gaping mouth, a production assistant rushed over. “Ms. Wei, Ms. Wang, Director Jiang has revised the scene. You’re needed on Team A. You’ll be filming today with Ms. Ning and President Yu.”
Wang You’s heart skipped a beat. She and Wei Nian looked at each other silently.
Dragging their feet, they followed the assistant toward Team A. Wei Nian muttered, “Just moments ago I was glad I didn’t have to act with Ning Xi. And now I hear this bad news. Where did my luck go? Why can’t we just catch a break?”
“When I see Ning Xi later, my legs are going to shake. I never imagined something so embarrassing would actually happen.”
Wang You patted her on the back in silent comfort.
When they arrived at Team A, they planned to keep a low profile and hoped not to draw attention from Ning Xi. But the moment they stepped onto the set, the production assistant shouted, “Ms. Wang and Ms. Wei are here. Bring two copies of the new script.”
Ning Xi’s cold gaze instantly locked onto them. Wang You and Wei Nian froze like startled birds, shoulders hunched, unable to move.
Yu Qingxue gently patted Ning Xi’s hand and said, “Let’s pretend none of that happened. Don’t let it affect your acting.”
Ning Xi withdrew her gaze and turned to Yu Qingxue. “Still trying to fool yourself?”
“Of course not,” Yu Qingxue said with a soft laugh. “I’ve already made up my mind. Worst case, we break up. I’m such a good catch, and she didn’t appreciate me. That’s her loss. Don’t worry. I won’t destroy myself over Wang You.”
“I deserve someone better, don’t I?” she asked, flashing a radiant smile. Her pale eyes shimmered under the sunlight.
Ning Xi’s heart stirred. The confident version of Yu Qingxue really was the most captivating. “Yes. You deserve the best.”
Director Jiang, now satisfied with the updated set, raised his megaphone. “Ning Xi, Yu Qingxue, Wang You, Wei Nian, come here for a moment.”
Yu Qingxue stood up immediately and walked over to him. Ning Xi followed closely behind.
Meanwhile, Wang You and Wei Nian were much more flustered.
Wei Nian stood up quickly and reached for Wang You’s hand.
Wang You swatted her hand away and whispered, “We just had a falling out this morning. Stay in character.”
Wei Nian blushed and scratched the back of her head. “I forgot. Sorry.”
“I’ll go first. You follow after,” Wang You said.
“Okay,” Wei Nian replied, watching her walk slowly to Director Jiang’s side. Then she picked up the pace and quickly joined, though she made sure not to stand next to Wang You, looking like she was sulking.
Director Jiang paused and laughed. “Well, look at you two. Already in character. That’s good. Keep it up and don’t mess up later.”
Wei Nian sneaked a glance at Ning Xi and said, “Got it, Director. We won’t let you down.”
Ning Xi caught her glance but didn’t respond. Since Yu Qingxue didn’t care about Wei Nian, she saw no reason to acknowledge her either.
Director Jiang then turned to Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue.
“You two are different. Under Feng Yunyan’s deliberate approach, Dong Lingxue has started to lower her guard. She sees Feng Yunyan as a friend and sometimes even feels moved when Feng crosses the line. You need to show more closeness. It’s more than friendship but not quite romance. Do you understand?”
He knew this would be the hardest state for them to portray.
Why? Because they were already in a relationship off-screen.
Playing “almost lovers” when they were truly in love was tricky. It was easy to overact.
Ning Xi looked at Yu Qingxue. Yu Qingxue happened to be looking back.
They shared a smile. In that moment, their eyes seemed to shine with affection. But on closer inspection, it was hard to tell if anything was really there.
“That’s it!” Director Jiang stood up, visibly excited. “Hold that feeling. We’re starting now.”
“Scene twenty-three, take one. Mark.”
“Action.”
Shan Lian tried to set up Feng Yunyan but failed and was exposed. Embarrassed and angry, she stormed off. However, she was intercepted by Hu Xiaohan, who marked her.
An Omega naturally submits to the Alpha who marks her, and Shan Lian was no exception.
The two shared a brief period of sweetness. One day, Shan Lian woke up and discovered that Hu Xiaohan was actually part of the Demonic Sect. Not only that, she held the position of Left Guardian, second only to the Sect Leader.
Shan Lian was devastated. She began to give Hu Xiaohan the cold shoulder. Even though her body wanted to stay close to her Alpha, her upbringing in the Wulin Alliance had taught her to hate the Demonic Sect. She could not accept the fact that someone from the sect had marked her.
By then, Hu Xiaohan had truly fallen for Shan Lian. But despite Shan Lian’s silent treatment, she couldn’t bear to force her to reconcile. Instead, she gently explained that she had been adopted by the previous sect leader. Becoming the Left Guardian was never her choice. She had always longed to leave the sect and live righteously, but she feared that the Wulin Alliance would never trust her.
Hu Xiaohan even swore to the heavens that she would abandon her past for Shan Lian and become a good person.
Shan Lian didn’t believe her. She mocked her and said she would only believe it if Hu Xiaohan let her go.
Although Hu Xiaohan held a high position and was used to commanding respect, she swallowed her pride. She escorted Shan Lian to the inn where Feng Yunyan and Dong Lingxue were staying.
Hu Xiaohan stood with her arms crossed beside Shan Lian and said calmly, “Your mistress is right inside. I have brought you back. Will you stop being angry now?”
Shan Lian turned away and pouted. “I’ll stop if you leave.”
Hu Xiaohan placed a hand gently on her shoulder and let out a heavy sigh. “I’m worried about your safety. I’ll leave after I see you reunited with her.”
Shan Lian could feel the heat of her hand through her clothes. It burned against her skin.
“Fine. Once I see her, you can go.”
Hu Xiaohan stared at her flushed ears, her gaze dark and unreadable.
“Alright,” she replied.
But hearing that made Shan Lian feel even more uneasy inside.
Her emotions were tangled. Maybe she loved Hu Xiaohan, but it might have just been the pheromones. To say she didn’t resent her would be a lie.
Shan Lian took a deep breath, pushed away her confusion, and stepped into the inn.
A cheerful server came forward and asked, “Welcome, honored guests. Are you here to dine or stay?”
“We’re looking for someone,” Shan Lian answered.
The server’s cheerful face faltered slightly. “Well, we can’t just let anyone into the inn to look for someone. What if you’re enemies and start a fight inside? How about this? Why don’t you both order a couple of dishes and wait downstairs? You can eat and drink comfortably, just like at home.”
“Stop wasting time.”
Hu Xiaohan tossed him a piece of silver and lifted her chin. “Can we look now?”
The server’s eyes lit up as he caught the silver. He brought it to his mouth and bit down gently, then smiled even more brightly when he saw the tooth mark.
“Of course, of course,” he said, eyes crinkling. “Could you describe the people you’re looking for? To be honest, I remember every guest who stays here.”
Shan Lian glanced at Hu Xiaohan, who had just helped her out of a tough situation. She pressed her lips together, then turned to the server and said, “I’m looking for two women. Both of them are very beautiful.”
The server immediately asked, “Are they both equally stunning?”
Shan Lian gave a reluctant nod.
She had no problem praising Dong Lingxue, but she wasn’t nearly as eager to compliment Feng Yunyan.
“Oh, so you’re a friend of the two fairies. They’re staying in Room One on the top floor. I’ll take you to them.”
When Shan Lian heard that Dong Lingxue and Feng Yunyan were sharing a room, her heart sank further.
Since she had left, had Feng Yunyan already taken her place in her lady’s heart?
A shadow flickered across Shan Lian’s eyes.
“Cut!” Director Jiang Yuanxin lifted his megaphone and praised them. “Very good. Wang You, you conveyed Shan Lian’s emotions just through your eyes. Excellent work. Wei Nian, great job too. Let’s keep going.”
“Scene twenty-three, second shot. Take one. Slate.”
“Action.”
The server led Shan Lian and Hu Xiaohan up to the second floor. At the very end of the corridor, he pointed to a door. “This is Room One.”
Shan Lian nodded. “You can go back downstairs now.”
The server quickly hurried away, leaving only Shan Lian and Hu Xiaohan in the hallway.
Shan Lian turned to Hu Xiaohan. “I’ve found my lady. You should go now.”
Hu Xiaohan said calmly, “No rush. Let’s wait until we see her. You’ve been gone for half a month, and she hasn’t looked for you once. I wonder if she’ll even accept you now.”
Hu Xiaohan stared into Shan Lian’s eyes. Shan Lian trembled like a rabbit caught in an eagle’s grasp. Goosebumps rose on the back of her neck.
“If she doesn’t want you, I’ll take you with me.”
Shan Lian’s heart skipped a beat, but then her cheeks flushed with anger. “She would never abandon me. Don’t even think about taking me away!”
Her voice rose slightly. From inside the room, footsteps could be heard approaching.
Shan Lian immediately fell silent, nervous.
The last time she ran away, it was because she feared that Dong Lingxue would be disappointed in her, would scold her. This time, she had no confidence at all.
If Dong Lingxue really didn’t want her anymore… then she would leave with Hu Xiaohan.
Hu Xiaohan had promised to change for her. Shan Lian would go with her to the martial arts conference, and together they would seek the alliance leader and his wife.
She had been raised by the alliance leader’s wife, who had always loved her dearly. Surely she would believe in Hu Xiaohan for Shan Lian’s sake.
The door opened from inside. Shan Lian instinctively smiled.
But it was Feng Yunyan who stood there.
Shan Lian’s smile faded. “Where is my lady?”
Feng Yunyan glanced at her, then shifted her gaze to Hu Xiaohan.
Her deep black eyes met Hu Xiaohan’s amber ones. Feng Yunyan sniffed lightly, then said with certainty, “Shan Lian, she marked you.”
Shan Lian felt her anger explode. “What business is it of yours? If not for you, I would never have left my lady… I would never have been…” Her voice trembled and she could not finish.
“Yunyan, I think I heard Lian’s voice…”
A gentle voice came from inside the room. Soft footsteps followed, and then Dong Lingxue appeared beside Feng Yunyan, graceful and serene.
“My lady!” Shan Lian forgot her anger and sorrow. Overwhelmed with emotion, she called out to Dong Lingxue.
Dong Lingxue’s voice was calm as she asked, “Lian, where have you been for the past half month?”
Tears welled up in Shan Lian’s eyes as she answered with a trembling voice, “My lady, I missed you so much.”
Dong Lingxue sighed. “Lian, you were too impulsive. You should apologize to Yunyan.”
Shan Lian stared at her in disbelief. “My lady…”
She had suffered so much outside, and yet upon her return, the only thing Dong Lingxue seemed to care about was having her apologize to Feng Yunyan.
Why should she?
If it weren’t for Feng Yunyan, she never would have gone through all that pain in the first place.
Shan Lian bit her lower lip and stared stubbornly at Dong Lingxue without saying a word.
Feng Yunyan gently tugged at Dong Lingxue’s sleeve. “Lingxue, I don’t blame Shan Lian. It must have taken a lot for her to come back. Let her come in and rest, maybe have some tea.”
She smiled slightly and added, “Besides, this time she returned with her Alpha.”
“What Alpha?” Dong Lingxue finally turned her attention to Hu Xiaohan, who stood behind Shan Lian. Her expression grew serious. “Shan Lian, is she your Alpha?”
Shan Lian had returned full of hope, only to discover in despair that Dong Lingxue had already been completely won over by Feng Yunyan. She no longer cared about her at all.
Tears rolled silently down Shan Lian’s cheeks. Her face remained expressionless as she said, “Yes. She is my Alpha, Hu Xiaohan. You don’t need to scold me. I know it breaks the rules for someone under twenty to be marked by an Alpha.”
She took a deep breath and continued, “I came back only to say goodbye. From now on, I’ll be traveling with Xiaohan to the martial arts conference. When we meet Madam, I’ll accept whatever punishment she sees fit.”
Then she cast a bitter, hateful look at Feng Yunyan. “As for Feng Yunyan, I will not apologize to her.”
Before Dong Lingxue could speak, Shan Lian turned around and walked away.
Hu Xiaohan didn’t even glance at Feng Yunyan. She gave a small nod to Dong Lingxue, whose expression showed some confusion. “Everything Shan Lian said came from anger. Please don’t take it to heart. I will protect her. We’ll see you again at the martial arts conference.”
Once Hu Xiaohan had also left, Feng Yunyan gently wrapped her arms around the dazed Dong Lingxue and said in a soft voice, “Don’t worry. Shan Lian is just stuck in a dead end for now. She’ll come around.”
“Alright, cut!” Director Jiang Yuanxin called out.
They moved on to filming the next scenes with Wang You and Wei Nian. Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue remained upstairs to wait.
Only the two of them were left on the second floor. Ning Xi let go of Yu Qingxue’s hand and walked into Room One, taking a seat. Yu Qingxue sat beside her and, thinking back to the scene they had just filmed, smiled.
“Off-screen, Wang You betrayed me. On-screen, I broke Shan Lian’s heart. It feels like justice was served.”
Ning Xi saw that Yu Qingxue seemed to have recovered from the pain and felt genuinely happy for her. “In the story, you hurt not just Shan Lian but also Hu Xiaohan. Especially Hu Xiaohan. She nearly killed herself for you.”
Yu Qingxue smiled brightly. “That makes it even more satisfying.”
Ning Xi gently stroked her hair. “You hurt them in the story. I scare them off-screen. I’ll help you get your revenge until you feel completely at peace.”
A look of emotion rose in Yu Qingxue’s pale eyes. “Thank you, Ning Xi. I’m so glad we became friends. If not, I wouldn’t even know who to talk to after something like this.”
In her heart, she quietly apologized to Wang You and Wei Nian.
Once Ning Xi found out the truth, she would make sure to repay them properly for the fear they had endured.
