Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 53
After getting the hug from Ning Xi she had hoped for, Yu Qingxue acted with extra focus during the shoot. Ning Xi had to give it her all just to match her intensity, and even the background actors worked hard not to fall behind.
Jiang Yuanxin had originally come to Set A just to check on things. But when he saw the two women performing, he ended up glued to his seat behind the camera, completely captivated.
He was full of admiration. Saying that Yu Qingxue and Ning Xi had top-tier acting skills was no exaggeration.
Especially Ning Xi. She was only a sophomore in college and was acting in her first project. Yet her performance was already so mature. She held her own even while performing opposite Yu Qingxue, who had once won an international Best Actress award.
As Jiang Yuanxin watched the scene unfold through the camera, his imagination drifted off. If these two ever had a child, that child would surely be breathtakingly beautiful.
He was determined to become that child’s godfather.
By three in the morning, both sets had finally finished filming for the day.
Jiang Yuanxin pulled Yu Qingxue aside to talk while Ning Xi went ahead to remove her makeup and change clothes.
“Qingxue, when are you and Ning Xi planning to get married?” Jiang Yuanxin lowered his voice and asked with a face full of excitement.
Yu Qingxue was speechless. She hadn’t even won Ning Xi over yet. What marriage?
“Ning Xi is still young. There’s no rush.”
Jiang Yuanxin replied, “Maybe she’s not in a hurry, but you should be. Being a high-risk pregnancy at your age is dangerous. Older mothers are more likely to have complications. I suggest you get married this year, get pregnant next year, and have the baby the year after.”
Yu Qingxue looked at him, completely exasperated. “How old do you think I am? Why do you keep saying ‘high-risk’? You and Lan Xia don’t have kids either. Why are you rushing me?”
Jiang Yuanxin said, “I’m busy. Preparing for a pregnancy takes at least six months. You can afford to take a six-month break from acting. Can I take six months off from directing? Even if you give me that time off, what happens after that? I can’t imagine yelling at actors with a baby bump. There would be no authority left.”
Yu Qingxue changed the subject. “So when do you plan to have kids?”
Jiang Yuanxin stroked his chin and thought for a moment. “After I win an award. Best Director or Best Picture, either one will do.”
“Good luck. I think Asking the Demon might be your chance. I’ll be waiting to meet your future son or daughter.”
Yu Qingxue gave him a pat on the shoulder for encouragement, then turned to head to the dressing room to remove her makeup and change.
Jiang Yuanxin stayed where he was, daydreaming about winning an award. The more he thought about it, the more he smiled.
Then he pulled out his phone and sent a message to Lan Xia.
Jiang Yuanxin: Xia Xia, you’re going to be a mom soon.
Lan Xia: [confused emoji] When did you get pregnant?
Lan Xia: If I remember right, the last time we did anything was before you joined the crew… [green cloud emoji]
Jiang Yuanxin: [black lines emoji] I meant get ready to start preparing. No smoking, no drinking, no staying up late.
Frustrated, he put his phone away and looked up. Yu Qingxue was already gone.
Jiang Yuanxin sighed. When it came to scheming, Yu Qingxue was definitely a pro.
Meanwhile, Ning Xi had changed into her own clothes and was sitting at the dressing table removing her makeup. She turned when she heard the door open and saw Yu Qingxue walk in.
With a smile, she asked, “What did Director Jiang say to you? You look like you ran away from something.”
Yu Qingxue walked behind her, touched her own face and said, “Did I? He just brought up having children.”
Ning Xi understood immediately. Only Alphas could get Omegas pregnant. Yu Qingxue and Wang You were both Omegas, so they couldn’t have children of their own.
She silently blamed Jiang Yuanxin for being so talkative. He really had a talent for hitting the most awkward topics.
“Having children is tough on the body. Raising them is exhausting and stressful. Not having kids sounds like a good idea,” Ning Xi said, trying to comfort her.
Yu Qingxue felt a little helpless.
So this is what it means to dig your own grave, she thought.
She replied, “Who knows what the future holds. I actually really like kids.”
Looking at Ning Xi’s reflection in the mirror, Yu Qingxue found herself agreeing with Jiang Yuanxin. If she and Ning Xi ever had a child, it would probably be the most beautiful and adorable baby in the world.
She just didn’t know when Ning Xi would finally realize how she felt.
Yu Qingxue sighed quietly. “I’m going to get changed.”
Ning Xi turned her head and watched Yu Qingxue’s retreating figure, noticing how her mood seemed to have dropped again. She frowned slightly with concern.
The next day, Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue only had to shoot from noon to two in the afternoon. After that, they had night scenes. Wei Nian and Wang You, however, were scheduled to film all day.
Yu Qingxue and Ning Xi arrived at the set two hours early. Wei Nian and Wang You were already filming.
Yu Qingxue wanted to go watch, but Ning Xi stopped her.
“You’ll only feel worse if you watch. Don’t go.”
Yu Qingxue bit her lip. Her pale eyes settled softly on Ning Xi’s face.
“Fine, I won’t go. But you have to hug me.”
Ning Xi paused and blinked her dark eyes. “What does not watching Wang You film have to do with hugging you?”
A faint mist began to gather in Yu Qingxue’s eyes. She looked upset.
“If I don’t see them, I’ll start imagining they’re filming a romantic scene. That makes me feel off balance. If Wang You gets to be hugged by Wei Nian, then I get to be hugged by you.”
Yesterday’s hug had been about comforting her. But today, it was clearly out of spite.
“I looked at the script. They don’t have any intimate scenes today,” Ning Xi said patiently.
“Qingxue, I think you and Wang You have some serious things you need to talk about. You should find time and have an honest conversation.”
“You’re right,” Yu Qingxue admitted. “But if I bring it up, Youyou will probably avoid me again. I won’t tell her in advance. Tomorrow morning, come with me to her room. That way she can’t dodge it.”
“Alright, I’ll go with you,” Ning Xi agreed.
The first scene of the day was between Yu Qingxue and the actor playing Dong Lingxue’s father. Ning Xi pulled up a small stool and sat next to Jiang Yuanxin to watch.
As Yu Qingxue got ready, Jiang Yuanxin leaned toward Ning Xi and asked, “So, when do you plan on having kids?”
“Hmm?” Ning Xi blinked slowly, her long lashes fluttering. “Why are you suddenly asking that, Director Jiang?”
He replied, “Because I asked Qingxue and she completely dodged the question. So now I have to ask you.”
Ning Xi fell silent.
Director Jiang really had no sense of timing. Yu Qingxue was clearly avoiding the question because she didn’t want to answer, yet he kept pressing.
With a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, Ning Xi replied, “Director Jiang, maybe you should have a child first before talking about President Yu.”
But Jiang Yuanxin completely missed the sarcasm in her voice. He nodded enthusiastically. “I’d love to have a child, but I don’t have time. Whether or not you and Qingxue give me a godson or goddaughter depends on how well you perform in Asking the Demon. I told Qingxue earlier too, I can’t even think about having kids until I win an award. I’m under so much pressure right now.”
Ning Xi was speechless.
Jiang Yuanxin leaned in, lowering his voice as if sharing a big secret. “By the way, there’s something you might not know. I’ll tell you, but don’t share it with anyone else. Especially not Qingxue.”
Telling Qingxue would basically mean admitting he was the one who leaked it. Jiang Yuanxin would never admit to being a gossip.
“What is it?” Ning Xi couldn’t imagine what kind of secret would need to be kept from Yu Qingxue.
Jiang Yuanxin glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention, then gestured for Ning Xi to lean closer.
She hesitated, then moved her ear toward him. Jiang Yuanxin whispered, “I think Wang You likes Wei Nian.”
Ning Xi was startled. She turned her head to study him closely. “How do you know that?”
“Wang You told me herself,” Jiang Yuanxin said matter-of-factly. “She’s twenty-six and it’s the first time she’s liked someone. As her childhood friend, I’m happy for her, but I’m also worried.”
“I’m telling you this because I want you to help me observe Wei Nian. See if she’s reliable. You’re both Alphas, so you should know what kind of Omega other Alphas like. If you get the chance, maybe invite Wei Nian for a drink, get her tipsy, and see what she says.”
“I’m only telling you because I consider you one of us. You can try to find out more, but don’t let it slip in front of Wei Nian. Don’t let her know that Wang You likes her. Omegas care a lot about saving face. If Wei Nian doesn’t like her back, at least Wang You won’t be too embarrassed.”
Ning Xi suppressed the anger rising inside her and asked coldly, “Why can’t I tell President Yu?”
Jiang Yuanxin wasn’t about to tell the truth, so he quickly made something up. “Wang You doesn’t want Qingxue to worry. She asked me not to say anything until things are confirmed with Wei Nian.”
Ning Xi was completely appalled. Wang You’s behavior shattered her understanding of what was acceptable.
Hiding this from her partner while secretly pursuing another Alpha, and only planning to confess after it was a done deal?
Did she not consider how hurt Yu Qingxue would be when the truth came out?
Yu Qingxue absolutely needed to talk with Wang You, and not just talk — they needed to break up.
Ning Xi had so much on her mind that she actually messed up a few times during filming, which was rare for her. The shoot didn’t wrap up until nearly three in the morning.
Afterwards, Yu Qingxue was in the dressing room removing her makeup. She noticed Ning Xi’s furrowed brows and how distracted her hands were. A suspicion began to grow in her mind.
She sent a message to Jiang Yuanxin, but he didn’t reply. He was probably busy.
Yu Qingxue stood up and said calmly to Ning Xi, “I’m going to the restroom.”
“Alright,” Ning Xi replied.
Yu Qingxue headed to Group B’s filming area and found Jiang Yuanxin sitting beside the director, watching the monitor closely. She walked over and tapped him on the shoulder.
Jiang Yuanxin looked up, and when he saw her, he immediately smiled and stood up, pulling her off to the side.
“You know,” he said, “the more I watch them, the more I feel like Wang You and Wei Nian are perfect for each other. Their chemistry is so sweet, it’s right up there with you and Ning Xi.”
Yu Qingxue crossed her arms, her face expressionless.
Jiang Yuanxin shivered a little. “Why are you looking at me like that? You’re kind of scaring me.”
“Did you tell Ning Xi that Wang You likes Wei Nian?”
His expression froze. “How did you know? I specifically told her not to tell you.”
“She didn’t. I figured it out myself.” Yu Qingxue pointed at him, speaking slowly and clearly. “Your big mouth.”
She thought to herself, Best Wingman of the Year definitely goes to you.
