Everyone Loves the Alpha, But He’s Not Interested [Transmigration] - Chapter 49
Deyilou was a private restaurant known for its strong emphasis on discretion. It was a popular spot for celebrities and public figures, and its staff were professionally trained. Having seen their fair share of famous guests, they didn’t react with much excitement when Yu Qingxue and her group arrived.
“Please follow me,” said a hostess dressed in a flowing traditional gown, smiling politely as she led the five of them to their reserved private room.
Once inside, the hostess placed the menus in front of them and waited quietly for them to order.
Yu Qingxue stood up. “I’m going to the washroom.”
At the door, she shot Wang You a meaningful glance.
Wang You: Why did I look up?
Wang You stood up slowly. “I’ll go too. Wait for me, Qingxue.”
Ning Xi looked up and watched the two walk out, arms linked. She thought to herself that they must have made up.
Wang You (in her mind): No, we’re about to cheat and break up.
In the washroom, Yu Qingxue and Wang You stood in front of the mirror. Yu Qingxue placed her hands under the faucet, letting the water run over them as she carefully washed.
“Youyou, I’ve found someone for you to ‘cheat’ with,” she said casually.
Wang You stared blankly. “Alright then. Who did you choose this time?”
Yu Qingxue looked up and met Wang You’s eyes through the mirror, smiling. “You know her too. It’s Wei Nian.”
“She won’t work,” Wang You said immediately.
“Why not?” Yu Qingxue started listing her points. “Wei Nian is young, tall, has big eyes and a sharp nose. When she smiles, she’s like a sweet little wolfdog. She’s outgoing and full of energy. You’re gentle and adorable. The contrast makes a great match.”
Wang You stepped beside her to wash her hands. “She’s too young, too tall, and way too energetic. I like soft, clingy types. Not wolves.”
Yu Qingxue replied softly, “It’s not a real relationship. Why are you being so picky?”
Wang You stayed silent, lips pressed together.
After drying her hands, Yu Qingxue walked over and hugged Wang You’s arm, giving it a shake. “Youyou, you’re avoiding me. Tell me honestly. What’s the real reason Wei Nian doesn’t work?”
The sound of running water filled the room. After a moment of silence, Wang You finally said, “She used to like Bai Lianlian. And I can’t stand Bai Lianlian.”
Yu Qingxue blinked. “Because she tried to hurt me?”
Wang You nodded.
“You’re too good, Youyou.” Yu Qingxue, taller by a head, hugged Wang You from behind, clearly touched.
Wang You blushed and mumbled, “Well, you’re my best friend.”
Back in the private room, Ning Xi had ordered two dishes that Yu Qingxue liked. When neither she nor Wang You returned after a while, Ning Xi began to worry. She was afraid they might be standing too close or acting too intimate and that someone might see them.
“I’ll go check on them,” Ning Xi said.
Jiang Yuanxin was busy studying the menu and waved her off. “Go ahead,” he said, not bothering to ask why.
The washrooms at Deyilou were divided by six genders, but the sink areas were shared. Each floor had three shared areas.
Ning Xi checked them one by one but didn’t find them near the private room.
When she reached the most secluded washroom on the floor, she finally heard familiar voices through the door and sighed in relief.
She placed her hand on the doorknob and gently pushed the door open. What she saw made her pause.
Yu Qingxue was hugging Wang You from behind, her pale eyes full of emotion. Wang You’s cheeks were red, and she looked shy and flustered.
Ning Xi instinctively closed the door again.
But she didn’t walk away. She placed a hand on her chest to calm her racing heartbeat and stood outside, keeping quiet watch.
Back at the table, Jiang Yuanxin and Wei Nian had already finished ordering. When the others didn’t return, Jiang Yuanxin frowned.
“What’s going on with that washroom? Did it manage to keep all three of them in there?” he joked.
Wei Nian stood up. “Director Jiang, the food is about to be served. I’ll go check.”
Jiang Yuanxin thought for a moment and nodded. “Alright, but be sure to come back. Otherwise, I’m eating everything.”
Wei Nian started looking just like Ning Xi had. When she reached the farthest washroom, she saw Ning Xi standing quietly by the door, leaning against the wall.
Wei Nian walked up quickly. “Ning Xi, what are you doing here? Why haven’t you come back?”
Her voice was just loud enough to pass through the wooden door. Inside, Yu Qingxue and Wang You both heard it.
Wang You (nervously): Ning Xi is outside? Do you think she heard everything?
Yu Qingxue frowned slightly. “Probably not. If she had heard us, she would’ve walked in and asked me directly. She’s likely just keeping watch so no one else walks in.”
“And now that Wei Nian is out there too, just act normal when you leave. Don’t look at anyone. Head straight back to the room.”
Wang You nodded. “Got it.”
“We should stick to texting from now on. That was way too risky. My heart can’t handle it,” Wang You said as she walked over and opened the door.
She walked out quickly, not looking at anyone, and returned to the private room at twice her usual pace.
Yu Qingxue and Ning Xi met eyes briefly. There was a flicker of panic in Yu Qingxue’s gaze, but Ning Xi smiled calmly and said gently, “President Yu, you should go back first. Wei Nian and I will come after we wash our hands.”
Yu Qingxue nodded and left.
Ning Xi pulled Wei Nian into the washroom, keeping her expression relaxed as she began washing her hands.
Wei Nian looked confused. “Ning Xi, what exactly happened just now?”
Ning Xi replied, “Nothing serious. Omegas sometimes have private things to talk about. I stayed outside to keep others from barging in.”
Wei Nian nodded and laughed. “I see. For a moment, I thought you were eavesdropping on President Yu and Wang You.”
Ning Xi gave her a look. “I’m not a creep.”
Back in the private room, Wang You was already seated. Jiang Yuanxin looked at her and asked, “Where’s Qingxue and the others?”
Wang You sipped her tea calmly. “They’re behind me.”
Just as she finished speaking, Yu Qingxue walked in.
“What were you all doing? It’s been forever,” Jiang Yuanxin said. “Does the washroom have better scenery than this room?”
Yu Qingxue gave him a look. “Omegas take their time washing up. Got a problem with that?”
“No problem at all.”
Something is off with this group, Jiang Yuanxin thought to himself.
When Ning Xi and Wei Nian returned, the food started arriving.
Yu Qingxue sat between Wang You and Ning Xi. Across from her were Wei Nian and Jiang Yuanxin.
Her appetite was small, so after a few bites, she leaned back lazily in her chair and listened to Wei Nian talk.
Wei Nian was eating while recounting the details of the day a hitman came for her. Jiang Yuanxin listened with wide eyes and constant exclamations.
“Bai Qinian and Bai Lianlian really are stupid and dangerous. Thankfully, I was the only one who got hurt. Even now, it still scares me a little,” Wei Nian said.
Yu Qingxue glanced at her and asked casually, “Your first crush was Bai Lianlian? That’s pretty unlucky.”
Wei Nian scratched the back of her head in embarrassment. “President Yu, I never liked Bai Lianlian.”
Ning Xi said, “But that morning, we saw you blushing at her.”
“That wasn’t because I liked her. I may seem outgoing, but I actually get embarrassed easily. That day I asked Bai Lianlian for an autograph on behalf of my younger brother. He’s a big fan of hers.”
“It was my first time meeting her, and I asked for her signature right away. Of course I was nervous, but that has nothing to do with liking her. I’m not a weirdo. There’s no way I’d like someone pretending to be underage.”
She scratched the back of her short hair again after explaining.
Yu Qingxue nodded. “I see. Looks like I misunderstood you.”
She glanced at Wang You, giving her a subtle look that seemed to ask, Is that good enough now?
Wang You: Fine.
What choice did she have?
That night, back at the hotel, Ning Xi finished washing up and changed into her pajamas. She walked into the living room to get a glass of water and saw Yu Qingxue still awake, sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window, lost in thought as she stared out at the moon.
“Qingxue, it’s getting late. Why aren’t you asleep yet?” Ning Xi walked over and asked in a low voice.
Yu Qingxue turned around and gave her a small smile. “I couldn’t fall asleep. Will you sit with me for a while?”
Ning Xi held her water glass and sat down across from her. She noticed a trace of sadness in Yu Qingxue’s eyes.
“I never thanked you,” Yu Qingxue said softly.
“For what?”
“For earlier today at Deyilou. Thank you for standing outside and watching out for me and Wang You.”
“That’s what friends do,” Ning Xi replied. She could tell something wasn’t quite right. “Weren’t you and Wang You getting along fine today? Why do you seem upset?”
Yu Qingxue hugged her knees, lowered her head, and rested her face against them. “I don’t know either… We were fine during dinner, but after we got back to the hotel, she stopped responding to me. I sent her so many messages and even called her. She always stays up later than I do, and there’s no way her phone’s out of battery at the hotel…”
“Being in a relationship really isn’t as great as people think. Ning Xi, I wish I was as firm as you about not falling in love…” Her voice grew shaky. She looked up, her eyes red, a faint mist of confusion and sadness pooling in them.
Ning Xi felt a pang in her chest, like something had struck her hard. “Qingxue, there’s nothing wrong with love itself.”
She reached out and gently brushed her thumb under Yu Qingxue’s eye. Her fingertip caught a hot tear.
“Don’t cry. It makes my heart ache,” Ning Xi said softly.
Yu Qingxue stared at her in a daze. “If even you feel hurt seeing me like this, why doesn’t Wang You?”
“I’ll talk to her tomorrow,” Ning Xi said. “I’ll find out what’s really going on. For tonight, don’t overthink it. Get some good rest.”
Yu Qingxue gave a small nod. A single tear slid from the corner of her eye and rolled down her cheek. Ning Xi caught it gently with her fingertip.
Yu Qingxue smiled faintly. “Thank you.”
After being coaxed back to her room, Yu Qingxue lay face-down on her large bed, pulled out her phone, and sent a message to Wang You. Her legs swung up and down cheerfully as she typed.
Yu Qingxue: Youyou, I was just crying by the window, and Ning Xi was really worried about me!
Wang You: Worrying about you is the first step toward love. Congratulations, you’re one step closer to not being single.
And I’m one step closer to being free. Amazing.
Yu Qingxue: That’s not the point. The point is, Ning Xi said she’s going to talk to you tomorrow. Get ready.
Wang You: …Would you mind telling me what this talk is supposed to be about? [smile]
Yu Qingxue: About why you’re so hot and cold with me, why you’re always giving mixed signals, why you ignore my texts and don’t answer my calls. I was so heartbroken!
Wang You: [smile] [smile] [smile]
A complete setup. She always replies instantly!
Wang You: You’re such a creative scriptwriter. I really admire your imagination.
Yu Qingxue: I swear, once you fall in love, I’ll do anything for you. I’ll walk through fire if I have to.
Wang You: I truly appreciate that [smile]
I just don’t want that kind of relationship.
Yu Qingxue: By the way, have you thought more about Wei Nian?
Wang You: Sure, I’m in. But you’re the one who has to talk to her about it. I’ll just focus on acting my part.
Yu Qingxue: No problem. Love you, mwah.
Since Wei Nian had returned to the crew, filming for Ning Xi and Yu Qingxue had become much more manageable. They no longer had to work back-to-back days like last week when they only got three hours of sleep each night.
Tonight they had a night scene. The crew was still setting up, and they didn’t need to arrive until seven in the evening.
After breakfast that morning, Ning Xi looked at Yu Qingxue and said, “Give me Wang You’s number. I’ll ask her to meet me.”
Yu Qingxue replied, “She’s timid. If you ask her to meet somewhere unfamiliar, she probably won’t go. Just have her come here. I’ll go to the bedroom and won’t listen in.”
Ning Xi nodded. “That works.”
Right in front of Ning Xi, Yu Qingxue called Wang You and turned on speakerphone.
“I wonder if she’ll answer…” Yu Qingxue said nervously.
The phone rang three times before Wang You picked up.
“Hello?” Her tone was cold.
Yu Qingxue acted as if she didn’t notice anything and replied sweetly, “Darling, it’s me, Xuexue~”
“Hmm? What is it? I’m eating right now,” Wang You said. She almost broke character from Yu Qingxue’s sudden cutesy tone and forced herself to hold it together, sounding a little impatient.
“I… I wanted to talk to you about something. Could you come to my room after you finish eating?” Yu Qingxue asked cautiously.
“Can’t you just say it over the phone?”
Ning Xi couldn’t take it anymore. She hadn’t expected Yu Qingxue to act so humble in a relationship.
She reached out and took the phone from Yu Qingxue’s hand, then spoke into it calmly but firmly. “Wang You, I want to talk to you. Come here when you’re done eating.”
Before Wang You could react, she added, “I know everything that’s going on between you and President Yu. Think carefully about what will happen if you don’t come.” She ended the call without waiting for a reply.
Yu Qingxue stared at the phone in Ning Xi’s hand and asked hesitantly, “Do you think Wang You will be angry?”
Ning Xi gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and spoke softly, “Don’t worry. If she’s mad, she’ll be mad at me, not you.”
Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang at room 1788. Before going back to her bedroom, Yu Qingxue reminded Ning Xi, “Please don’t be too harsh with Wang You. She’s timid and gets scared easily.”
Ning Xi replied helplessly, “Do I really look like someone violent? Don’t worry. I’ll talk to her calmly.”
Yu Qingxue returned to her bedroom, and Ning Xi walked to the door and opened it.
Wang You peeked behind her. “Where’s Qingxue?”
Ning Xi stepped aside to let her in, then closed the door. “President Yu is in her room. I wanted to talk to you privately.”
Although Ning Xi sounded calm, Wang You’s heart still skipped a beat for no reason.
She instantly regretted coming. What was she thinking?
Best friends are a trap. T_T
The two of them sat on the sofa, facing each other.
Ning Xi reached out to pour a cup of tea and slid it across the table to Wang You.
Wang You stared at the white steam rising from the cup. “What do you want to talk about?”
Ning Xi replied, “Don’t rush. Have a sip of tea first.”
Wang You was speechless. The tea’s this hot, and she wants me to drink it?
All she wanted now was to get this over with. She picked up the cup, blew on it, took a small sip, and said, “There. I drank it. Can we talk now?”
Ning Xi had been watching her closely. After observing her reactions, she realized that Wang You really was as timid as Yu Qingxue had described.
She smiled.
Being timid made things a lot easier.
