- Chapter 6 - Night Realm (Part 3). Besides Physical Appearance, What Else Could One Like?
The brawny man threw his head back and laughed. He pushed the dice forward, and the numbers were revealed to everyone.
Jin Yongyi rubbed her eyes in disbelief; the numbers were exactly the same as the ones she had rolled. In the event of a tie, the house wins. No matter what Zhao Fuzhou rolled, they were destined to lose.
“You murderous bastard, did you cheat? Mmmph…”
Mu Qingfeng began a torrent of abuse, but the people from Yangguang Hall covered his mouth with a cloth and dragged him away.
Terrified, Jin Yongyi reached for Zhao Fuzhou’s hand. She saw someone approaching from behind him with a cotton cloth as well. The moment the cloth covered his nose and mouth, Jin Yongyi’s vision fell into total darkness.
After an unknown amount of time, Jin Yongyi woke up in a daze.
Her surroundings were very dim. She could hardly see anything and only felt herself lying on a bed.
Jin Yongyi struggled to climb up, only to find her hands and feet tied. She realized then that she had truly been lost to Yangguang Hall as a prize.
The once-silent room suddenly echoed with approaching footsteps.
“I did not expect one to escape, only to have a more beautiful one replace her. My beauty, let us play well tonight.”
The greasy, disgusting voice of a middle-aged man reached Jin Yongyi’s ears. She nearly doubled over in a dry heave, forcing herself to ask: “Are you the Master of Yangguang Hall?”
She blinked hard. Her night blindness made it impossible to adapt to the dark environment. Through the bed curtains, she could only vaguely see a massive, rounded silhouette walking toward her.
“Oh? You know of me, beauty?” He laughed loudly. “Wait for me, I am coming to show you some love.”
As he finished speaking, the sound of fabric rubbing together filled the room. Perhaps because he was undressing in such a hurry, he began to pant shallowly.
Jin Yongyi’s stomach churned with nausea. She struggled desperately, but the ropes only rubbed her skin raw without loosening a bit.
If this dog’s salty pig trotters touched her even once, she would immediately slam her head against a pillar and end her mission!
Of course, Jin Yongyi did not want such a bad ending. She forced herself to remain calm. It was unlikely the male lead would come to her rescue. In this urgent situation, she was just a minor supporting character. She would not get a story where the male lead drops from the sky to save her. Mu Qingfeng was roughly the same rank as her, and he was likely struggling to save himself somewhere.
She could only rely on herself.
Jin Yongyi pinched the soft skin between her thumb and forefinger hard. She squeezed her throat to affect a theatrical, coquettish tone: “Sir… please light a candle. Let me get a good look at you.”
After speaking, she silently made several gagging motions.
The Master of Yangguang Hall froze for a moment, hesitating: “This…”
“This is my first time… I do not want it to be all confusing.” Jin Yongyi feigned a sob, her voice becoming even more high-pitched. “At least let me know what kind of majestic and gallant man I am following from now on.”
“I am sorry, but I am allergic to the dark. I am already having a reaction. If you do not want to see a dead person later, you do not need to light the candles. Woe is me!”
Jin Yongyi swore she had used every ounce of her endurance, but she still could not stop the nausea. Although she tried to cover it up, anyone clever would know she was faking it.
To her surprise, her fake sobs broke the Master’s heart.
“My beautiful girl, do not cry. I will light the candles right now.”
After the sound of him scurrying about, the room was filled with bright light, and Jin Yongyi’s vision cleared.
She looked at the scene before her, closed her eyes, and wanted to die on the spot.
The Master was already half-undressed. His inner robe hung loosely over his upper body, revealing rolls of greasy fat.
Heaven knows how much Jin Yongyi wanted to look at Zhao Fuzhou’s physique to wash her eyes.
Yet, she still had to pretend her eyes were sparkling with a shy expression.
“My beauty, you have waited long enough. Here I come!”
“Wait!” The moment the fat man lunged, Jin Yongyi leaped up and easily dodged him. She laughed playfully: “Come and catch me!”
In a bright environment, no one could catch her if she did not want to be caught. This was the charm of her cheat code!
After chasing her for a while, the Master was exhausted. He leaned against the table, gasping for air.
Waiting for this exact moment, Jin Yongyi walked over and said softly: “Sir, look at how tightly my hands are tied. How can we enjoy ourselves later?”
“You little minx.” The Master let out three lecherous laughs. He remained somewhat cautious, loosening only half of the rope before eagerly lunging again.
Jin Yongyi performed another graceful spinning leap, narrowly avoiding him. She struggled violently, and since the rope was already loose enough, she pulled it off with all her might. Her hands were finally free.
“Come and chase me.” She held the rope and gave the Master a seductive smile. “If you catch me, I will let you…”
“Heh heh heh.” The Master saw her stance and thought he knew what she wanted to play. Thinking this beauty was surprisingly open-minded, his eyes glowed with excitement as he followed her darting figure back and forth.
By the time he realized something was wrong, it was too late. The rope had been wrapped around him multiple times, binding his movements.
“If you catch me, I will let you…”
The beauty’s voice turned significantly colder, drifting eerily from behind him. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his waist. He screamed and collapsed to the floor.
“…take a walk on the wild side!” Jin Yongyi smirked and gave his head a flick. She tightened the rope into a dead knot and then kicked him away like a soccer ball.
The Master squirmed back and forth on the floor. Jin Yongyi did not bother with him; it would not be easy for someone that fat to get back up.
Just as she clapped her hands to leave, the System, which had been silent for ages, suddenly came back to life. The notification sound gave her another massive fright.
[Congratulations, Host! The second task is successfully completed. You may now draw the reward for your first task!]
Before Jin Yongyi could curse at it, a slot machine appeared before her, printed with strange patterns.
[Host, come and draw your reward!]
“…”
Jin Yongyi looked back at the Master on the floor; he was still squirming. She wondered if anyone else could see this slot machine.
She tentatively pressed the lever. The patterns on the machine jumped around for several rounds before settling on three different icons.
Accompanied by the System’s celebratory sound effects, a bottle suddenly appeared in Jin Yongyi’s hand.
[The task reward has been issued! The time for the next task has not yet arrived. Please wait patiently, Host. I am going offline now!]
The System was in such a hurry it seemed as if it were rushing to be reincarnated. She quickly asked in her mind: “At least explain to me what this thing is!”
Also, could it stop appearing so suddenly? Her heart was fragile!
Jin Yongyi looked helplessly at the bottle in her hand and shook it; it contained liquid. She did not dare open it easily, fearing it might be poison.
Several characters were carved on the bottle, something like “Lust Water.” The middle character looked like a miniature painting, and at a glance, she really could not tell what it was.
Jin Yongyi walked under the candlelight and vaguely identified two little figures in the painting. They were just too small, and the drawing style was truly bizarre; she really could not figure it out.
“Beauty, that bottle in your hand is an aphrodisiac, is it not?” The Master finally managed to squirm onto his back. He let out a lewd laugh. “I did not expect you were actually playing for keeps with me. Come, feed it to me, and see how I display my heroic prowess!”
“…”
There were currently two things weighing on Jin Yongyi’s mind. She wondered if it was better to kill this fat man first or to curse the System’s ancestors for eighteen generations.
She gave two fake laughs, tucked the bottle into her robes, and rushed forward to give the Master a thorough beating.
Honestly, the Master’s body was so round that with his white inner robes on, she could not tell where his belly ended and his legs began. When she kicked a certain spot, the Master’s pleas for mercy suddenly turned into a blood-curdling scream. His face went pale, and he twitched in agony.
“Oh…” Jin Yongyi understood. She lifted her foot to a certain height, aimed at the area he was clutching, and kicked down hard.
The scream sent a flock of birds flying.
“Humph, I have cleaned things up for you to save you from ruining any more young men and women. Does it hurt? It serves you right. Blehh!”
Jin Yongyi made a face at the ashen Master and decided not to linger. She pushed the door open and fled.
Outside, it was pitch black. Jin Yongyi looked up at the moon hanging far away in the sky. Because her vision was blurry, she measured it with her hand; it was about the size of a coin. This faint moonlight was nothing compared to the “Super Moon” in the small forest.
She crouched down, feeling the gravel path to find her direction, and walked slowly.
She was certain this place was not within the Night Realm, or it would not be this dark. She worried that if Zhao Fuzhou could not find her quickly and she could not find her way out, the Master of Yangguang Hall might crawl out with his last breath to kill her.
Thinking of this, Jin Yongyi’s movements on the ground became faster.
Suddenly, she heard someone calling her name.
“Miss Jin!”
“Miss Jin, where are you?!”
It was Mu Qingfeng’s voice!
She had not expected Mu Qingfeng to be the first to come and save her. Truly, her conscience was clear; she had not saved the wrong person.
Jin Yongyi had just reached what felt like a moon gate with plants beside it. She straightened up and responded cautiously: “I am here!”
Mu Qingfeng did not seem to hear her and continued calling her name.
His voice drifted further away. In her haste, Jin Yongyi was about to scream at the top of her lungs, but just as she caught her breath, someone suddenly patted her shoulder.
Jin Yongyi spun around and saw a pale, blurry face very close to her own. Her breath instantly turned into a scream that was about to pierce the sky, but the person immediately covered her mouth.
“Shh.”
“It is me.”
Jin Yongyi was still shaken: “Zhao… Zhao Fuzhou?”
“Yes.”
Zhao Fuzhou held up a dropped lantern next to his cheek, trying to let her see clearly.
“…”
Jin Yongyi quickly pushed his hand down. She already could not see well, and in this pitch-black environment, having just his head glowing in mid-air was terrifying.
He was going to scare her to death!
Zhao Fuzhou led the way with the lamp, and Jin Yongyi followed closely, clutching his sleeve.
The surroundings were eerily quiet.
Jin Yongyi could not put her finger on what was wrong. Thinking she was just sensitive in the dark, she found a topic to distract herself: “How did you and Mu Qingfeng escape?”
“Oh…” He thought for a moment before saying, “I killed them all.”
“Killed… killed them all?”
Was he always this decisive and brutal?
Jin Yongyi clicked her tongue, finding it difficult to continue the conversation.
Zhao Fuzhou suddenly began talking on his own: “By the way, there is a demon in Yangguang Hall who is good at shapeshifting. It is said that he can turn into anything he has seen in the world. Do you think he is impressive?”
“Shapeshifting?” Jin Yongyi pondered. “Wait, did Mu Qingfeng not always say Yangguang Hall was cheating? Do you think it was that demon’s doing?”
For example, turning into a die.
“So what? He can rely on that to obtain endless wealth. Do you not like silver and gold?”
“…”
What was wrong with him today? His words were so morally questionable.
Since he was the boss, Jin Yongyi weighed her words: “I like them, but I like you even more. Even if you had no money, I would still be willing to follow you! So please, do not do anything shady just because earning money is hard!”
“…” Zhao Fuzhou stopped walking and fell silent.
A sudden gust of wind blew through the courtyard. The sense of strangeness in Jin Yongyi’s heart became more obvious. She looked toward where she thought Zhao Fuzhou’s face was.
Whether it was her own suspicion or not, she felt that Zhao Fuzhou had been staring at her the whole way.
“What do you like about me?” he suddenly asked.
They had only known each other for two or three days. In that short time, Jin Yongyi had been busy either racing against ghosts or battling the System. She had not had the time to discover any of the male lead’s shining qualities.
To be honest, besides his physical appearance, what else could she like?
Zhao Fuzhou: “Is it my face?”
“Well… it is not entirely that. I really like your inner self as well,” Jin Yongyi said with a playful smile.
A cold hand touched her face and gently rubbed it.
“If you like a beautiful face, I can look like this forever,” he spoke urgently. “Let me take you away, okay? Right now.”
Jin Yongyi frowned and could not help but take a step back, avoiding his hand.
It was too strange. Zhao Fuzhou had never been this disrespectful to her.
“Not right now. We went through so much trouble to save Mu Qingfeng, so of course we have to take him with us. Let us go find him quickly.”
Jin Yongyi brushed aside the weirdness in her heart and tugged on his arm to lead the way.
Zhao Fuzhou sighed heavily, as if in regret.
The two said nothing more along the way.
After an unknown amount of time, Zhao Fuzhou stopped and said to her: “Miss Jin, we have arrived.”
In an instant, Jin Yongyi was covered in goosebumps.
With a trembling voice, she asked: “There is no one else here. What did you just call me?”
“…”
The other person said nothing.
Jin Yongyi pinched the flesh of her thigh, took a deep breath, and turned to run. However, because the path was unclear, she tripped and fell after only a few steps.
Footsteps from behind were closing in on her. She gritted her teeth and tried to get up, but a hand squeezed her shoulder.
“You only realized something was wrong now? It is too late.”
The other person snapped his fingers, and brilliant lanterns instantly lit up. Jin Yongyi gasped as she saw the person’s face flickering back and forth between Zhao Fuzhou and another stranger.
“Take her inside.”
Ahead was a massive building. Several people in black flew out from the doors, grabbed Jin Yongyi by her arms and legs, and carried her inside like a roasted whole lamb.
