- Chapter 61 - The First Shot
The social media status posted by Jiang Si, which ignited public opinion, acted like a ladle of cold water splashed into a vat of boiling oil. It exploded throughout the upper echelons of the New City and, naturally, quickly reached the Jiang family estate.
“A lunatic! A complete and utter lunatic!”
Inside the main hall, Jiang Yi hurled his tablet onto the floor. The screen shattered instantly, reflecting his twisted and grimacing face.
“How dare he! How dare he drag the Jiang family name and his own reputation through the dirt like this! Liking men? Getting involved with the dog he raised? What on earth is he trying to do?”
Jiang San shrieked from the side, “That perverted freak! To openly associate with a dog, he has disgraced the Jiang family entirely!”
Jiang Yuan, sitting in the head seat, looked as though he had aged ten years. He rubbed his aching temples. “What is the use of saying this now? He is using these low-level tactics to provoke us on purpose.”
“Father is right,” Jiang Er analyzed gloomily. “He is diverting our attention. Skeleton has been making significant moves in the Pier District lately; I fear he intends to cut off our final smuggling line.”
Jiang San added shrilly, “My informants say his people met with officials from the Tax Bureau last week. They must be gathering leverage against us!”
“That ungrateful viper,” Jiang Er sneered. “He has been abnormal since he was a child, and now he is even worse. But let him not forget that the Jiang family century-old foundation cannot be shaken by his petty tricks.”
Despite their harsh words, a lingering panic hid in their eyes. They knew perfectly well that every step Jiang Si took was dismantling the Jiang family final line of defense. He was cornering them.
Jiang San’s face gradually turned pale. She sat on the sofa, her fingers gripping the expensive silk of her skirt tightly, and her meticulously styled hair was becoming disheveled.
“My phone is nearly ringing off the hook. Those people who used to fawn over us are now just waiting to see a joke! Several important partners have even suspended negotiations, all because of this shameless madman!”
Jiang Er remained relatively calm, but his furrowed brows and dark expression revealed his inner turmoil. He took a deep breath and looked at Jiang Yuan.
“Father, we cannot let him run wild anymore. This is not just revenge; he is using the most humiliating method to trample on a century of our family reputation and dignity! That status update was a signal; he is taunting us, declaring war!”
Jiang Yuan’s clouded eyes were bloodshot. He braced himself against the armrests, his voice raspy and exhausted. “What can you do? Our previous actions did not even scratch his foundation; instead, we suffered heavy losses!”
“That is because we were not ruthless enough!” Jiang Yi stood up abruptly, his gaze crazed. “Before, we were concerned about the impact, but now that he has discarded all shame, what are we worried about? At Starry, we can mobilize all reserve funds, ally with the banks tied to us, and fight him to the death in the financial market!”
“On the political front, Jiang Er, use all your connections. At any cost, seize all his public assets! Also, Scorpion failed last time, but we can find someone even better! There are plenty of desperate criminals internationally who will do anything if the price is right!”
Jiang San seemed to grab onto a lifeline. “Yes! My media outlets will cooperate fully to paint his relationship with that mad dog as disgusting and unbearable as possible! I want everyone to know he is a monstrous deviant!”
Jiang Er pondered for a moment before adding, “We also need to sow discord. Is Skeleton truly a monolith? I do not believe no one is dissatisfied with that kid Pei Ye rising so quickly. We can reach out secretly and offer significant rewards.”
Jiang Yi’s emotions grew more intense. He looked at Jiang Yuan. “Father! Do not hesitate anymore! We cannot allow that monster to continue his wanton behavior!”
Jiang Yuan looked at his children, who seemed to have regained their fighting spirit. After a long silence, a trace of ruthlessness flashed in his tired eyes.
“Do as you say. Mobilize all resources, regardless of the cost! Jiang Si, that unfilial son must be thoroughly eradicated! The Jiang family must not be destroyed by his hands!”
A war derived from the Jiang family internal strife, one concerning the power shift in the New City upper circles, was beginning.
Skeleton Headquarters, Top-Floor Command Center.
Massive electronic screens displayed real-time financial market data, power distribution maps, and surveillance footage of key Jiang family members.
Jiang Si sat in the head seat, his expression calm, and his fingertip occasionally tapped the armrest. The Adjutant stood by his side, reporting quickly.
“Fourth Brother, the Jiang family has begun using their reserve funds to stabilize Starry stock price. They have contacted the Chang He and Ding Sheng banks and are expected to receive a large short-term loan injection into the market.”
“Mhm,” Jiang Si responded flatly, his gaze sweeping over the K-line chart of Starry stock. “Let them inject it. Keep our short positions unchanged. When their funds are half-depleted, release a portion of the laboratory data.”
“Understood.”
The Adjutant noted it down and continued, “On Jiang Er’s side, he has utilized three key connections to prepare a joint inspection of Starry Entertainment and the Ye Lan Club, which we control, citing suspicions of money laundering and illegal operations.”
“Notify Cang Jun. Have his people clean up in advance. Also, send the photos and recordings of Jiang Er’s private meeting with the Vice President of Ding Sheng Bank anonymously to his political rival, Representative Wang. Wang is looking for a chance to bring him down.”
“Yes. Also, Jiang San’s Circular Vision published three malicious reports targeting you and Pei Ye this morning. The wording is very low-class.”
Jiang Si laughed. “Malicious reports? Low-class wording? I can guess the content without even looking. Truly seeking death.”
“Find some dirt on the popular idols under her management, group sex videos will do, and evidence of her embezzling company funds to buy luxury villas overseas. Package them and send them to her rival, Inverse News,” Jiang Si said indifferently, as if disposing of trash.
“It is already being handled. It should break by this afternoon,” the Adjutant replied with a slight smile, well-versed in this type of public relations warfare.
“Additionally, we have monitored unknown IPs attempting to contact several mid-level cadres within the organization, offering very high prices.”
“List the names. Let Pei Ye go and talk to them,” Jiang Si said, turning his gaze toward Pei Ye, who had been standing quietly in the shadows.
Pei Ye took a step forward, bowing slightly. “Yes, Master.”
His gaze was icy, carrying a chilling killing intent. Any potential threat to his Master had to be eliminated.
Regarding this invisible war with the Jiang family, Jiang Si had begun laying out the board long ago. Now, it was simply time to close the net.
