- Don't You like Little Dogs? Now that I'm Taking Liberties, You're Suddenly Reluctant?
- Chapter 62 - Unsheathed
Late night, on the outskirts of the city.
The darkness deepened as undercurrents surged. The strongest force of Skeleton, the sharp blade known as the First Division, was unsheathed once more.
Inside an abandoned chemical plant on the edge of town, an illegal arms deal was underway. On one side was a representative of Blood Wolf, an international mercenary organization active in Central Asia, contacted by the Jiang family through secret channels. On the other side was a leader of the private armed forces cultivated in the shadows by the Jiang family to handle their filthiest affairs.
“The goods are all here. The firepower is enough to turn Skeleton’s nest upside down,” the Blood Wolf representative remarked in stiff Chinese, patting several heavy metal crates.
“Fine. Let us take a look, then we will report to Yi Ge,” the Jiang family leader replied. Just as he prepared to inspect the goods, the lights in the factory suddenly cut out.
Boom! A sudden explosion shook the air.
“Enemy attack!” someone shouted.
In the darkness, the Grim Reaper descended silently.
Cang Jun’s calm voice crackled through the communicator. “According to plan. Ghost, neutralize the high ground. Viper, seal the exits and create chaos. Blood Butcher, frontal assault. Feng Jun, clear the left flank. Pei Ye, right flank, prioritize the Blood Wolf members.”
“Received!”
“Mission objective confirmed.” Ghost moved like a true phantom through the dark, her suppressed handgun precisely taking out the two snipers stationed on the roof.
Boom! Boom, boom! A series of massive explosions followed.
Viper detonated the micro bombs pre-set at several factory entrances. This not only cut off the retreat but used the fire and noise to perfectly mask the sounds of the ensuing slaughter. “So fragile! Not even enough for me to blow up!”
On the perimeter, Blood Butcher acted like a heavy tank, crashing directly through the thin outer wall of the warehouse. The heavy machine gun in his hands spat angry tongues of fire, instantly mowing down the unprepared enemies.
Pfft! Pfft, pfft, pfft!
Feng Jun’s silhouette flickered among the ruins. The short blade in his hand was like the tongue of a poisonous snake; every strike brought forth a fountain of warm blood. “Where are you looking, idiot?”
Amidst the chaos, Pei Ye’s objective was clear: the highly trained Blood Wolf mercenaries. He was like a night owl in the dark, moving so fast he was merely a blur. His dagger carved fatal arcs under the moonlight.
Pfft! Pfft!
The sound of blades slicing through flesh and the spray of blood echoed continuously. A Blood Wolf mercenary had just raised his gun when his throat was slit. Another tried to find cover, only to feel a cold sting in his heart. The members of Blood Wolf did not even have time to call for help before they fell one by one.
The battle ended swiftly within ten minutes. A thick scent of blood permeated the factory. The Jiang family’s private militia and the Blood Wolf representatives were completely annihilated, and the munitions were destroyed on the spot.
“Clearing complete.”
Cang Jun’s voice came through the communicator, carrying a hint of post-battle exhaustion but mostly the stillness of a mission accomplished. Pei Ye stood in the middle of the sea of bodies, wiping the blood from his dagger with a cold gaze. He walked to the corpse of the Blood Wolf representative, retrieved an encrypted communicator from the body, and tucked it into his pocket.
The intelligence his Master wanted had been found.
Back at a safe Skeleton stronghold, everyone carried the scent of gunpowder and blood. Blood Butcher’s shoulder had been grazed by a stray bullet and was being treated by the team medic. Feng Jun slumped in a chair, loudly complaining that he was starving.
Cang Jun and the Adjutant stood on the second floor balcony of the stronghold, looking at the distant city lights.
“Want one?” the Adjutant offered, holding out a cigarette.
“Sure.” Cang Jun took it naturally, lit it, and took a deep drag.
The Adjutant exhaled a cloud of smoke. “The Jiang family has gone completely mad this time.”
“Nothing but death throes,” Cang Jun replied dismissively. “Fourth Brother was well prepared.”
The Adjutant smiled, glancing sideways at him. “Come to think of it, how many years has it been? Since that hellish training camp?”
Cang Jun’s eyes flickered as he recalled those dark years that had laid the foundation of their mutual trust. “More than ten years, I suppose.” He paused. “Back then, no one expected we would follow Fourth Brother this far.”
“True,” the Adjutant mused. “I remember a mission at the very beginning where you nearly lost your life covering for me.”
Cang Jun fell silent for a moment, flicking away the ash. “You did the same.”
A brief silence fell between them, marked only by the quiet burning of their cigarettes. The memories of shared life and death moments, of trust and bonds forged in blood and corpses, had long surpassed those of ordinary friends or colleagues.
“When this is all over,” the Adjutant said softly, looking into the distance, “let us go for a drink. Just the two of us.”
Cang Jun turned to look at him. His expression was obscured by the dim light, but his voice carried a trace of uncharacteristic softness.
“Okay.”
The penthouse apartment in the city center.
Pei Ye left the team early, rushing back with the encrypted intelligence. After handing the communicator to Jiang Si, he went to the bathroom to quickly wash away the scent of blood. When he emerged wearing a simple black tank top, Jiang Si was sitting on the sofa, looking at the latest battle reports on his tablet.
“Master, you should rest,” Pei Ye said softly, noticing a faint trace of fatigue between the other man’s brows.
“Mhm.” Jiang Si put down the tablet and rubbed the bridge of his nose. The continuous high intensity maneuvering had left even him feeling somewhat weary. He looked up at Pei Ye and beckoned him over.
Pei Ye obediently sat beside him. Jiang Si naturally leaned over, resting his head on Pei Ye’s shoulder and closing his eyes. “Do not move. Let me lean for a bit.”
“Yes.” Pei Ye’s body stiffened momentarily before he relaxed, carefully adjusting his posture to make Jiang Si more comfortable. He reached out, lightly encircling Jiang Si’s waist, feeling the warm body heat and steady breathing of the person in his arms.
Master’s temperature is so warm.
The storm of blood and wind outside seemed to have nothing to do with this warm corner.
“The Jiang family will not last much longer,” Jiang Si said suddenly in a low voice, his eyes still closed.
“Mhm.” Pei Ye pulled him a bit tighter. “They are not worthy of being your enemy.”
Jiang Si let out a light chuckle and said no more, appearing to have actually fallen asleep. Pei Ye maintained his position without moving until he was sure Jiang Si’s breathing had become deep and steady. He then very carefully picked him up, carried him back to the bedroom, and tucked him in.
He then lifted the other side of the quilt and lay down, gently embracing Jiang Si from behind. In the darkness, he held Jiang Si tightly and softly nuzzled the nape of his neck.
“Goodnight, my Master.”
