Don't You like Little Dogs? Now that I'm Taking Liberties, You're Suddenly Reluctant? - Chapter 59
The First Division was dispatched to the outskirts for a clearing mission, and Pei Ye was temporarily borrowed back to the team. The six of them coordinated as seamlessly as ever, and the mission was completed more smoothly than expected. On the armored vehicle heading back, the atmosphere was a familiar blend of relaxation.
The Captain, Cang Jun, sat in the passenger seat conducting a mission review, while Viper took the rare responsibility of driving. Blood Butcher was taking a nap nearby, and Ghost was quietly wiping her dagger.
Pei Ye had just taken out his phone, intending to send a message to Jiang Si, when Feng Jun suddenly leaned in close to him. He nudged him with his elbow and winked mischievously. “Xiao Liu, oh Xiao Liu. Last time the gathering was too short, and I did not get a chance to ask you properly. So, you actually managed to take down Fourth Brother? Tell us, how does it feel?”
“What do you mean, how does it feel?” Pei Ye clearly did not understand.
Feng Jun let out a chuckle and lowered his voice, asking the question everyone in the vehicle was dying to know. “You know, that thing. That.”
He was stammering, but Pei Ye understood from the curiosity in his voice and the reactions of the others.
“Hey, give us the inside scoop. At a time like that, who is on top and who is on the bottom?” He winked and made an ambiguous gesture. “It has to be Fourth Brother, right? Fourth Brother has that aura. I mean, it is truly impossible to imagine Fourth Brother on the bottom.”
While it was also hard to imagine Pei Ye on the bottom, in comparison, Fourth Brother was even more difficult to picture. After all, that was Jiang Si! The leader of Skeleton, a being who stood atop a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. Who would dare guess that Fourth Brother was the one on the bottom? How could that be? It was impossible, absolutely impossible.
The topic was suddenly pushed to a critical point. Almost everyone in the car pricked up their ears, and even Viper, who was driving, slowed down.
Pei Ye remained silent for a few seconds, appearing to be thinking about something. Feng Jun stared at him for a long time, and just when he thought the other would not answer, Pei Ye suddenly spoke. His voice was calm and steady, but it exploded like a clap of thunder in everyone’s ears.
“It is not Master. It is me.”
Silence.
“What?!”
The interior of the vehicle instantly fell into a deathly silence, followed by a sudden burst of exclamations. Cang Jun’s review hit a wall, Ghost snapped her head up, Viper almost slammed on the brakes, and even Blood Butcher was jolted awake from his nap.
The smile on Feng Jun’s face froze instantly. His eyes went wide, his mouth hung open, and it took a long time before he let out a howl. “Holy crap! It is you?! Xiao Liu?! You are not joking with me, are you?! Holy crap!”
It was completely unbelievable. Fourth Brother was actually the one on the bottom? How was that possible?
“It is over! Everything is over!” Feng Jun wailed as he pulled his phone from his pocket with trembling fingers. He clicked on an encrypted link, a page for an underground betting pool.
The page prominently displayed the title of the bet: “Skeleton Top/Bottom Guessing (Top Version)”. Below it, two options were displayed simply:
-
- Jiang Si B. Pei Ye
Note: Certified by the official Skeleton gambling zone.
The odds at the bottom showed that the amount of money bet on Option A was piled as high as a mountain. On Option B, there was only a single bet, but the amount was staggeringly large.
“Damn it! Almost everyone bet on Fourth Brother! Only one idiot with the ID S bet on you! And they bet so much!” Feng Jun said with a grief-stricken face. “I followed the trend and bet on Fourth Brother too! My entire bonus for the month is gone!”
Pei Ye looked at the betting page and then at Feng Jun’s despairing face. His brow furrowed imperceptibly. He did not care about the bet, but the ID S felt strangely familiar.
That evening, in the penthouse apartment.
Pei Ye came out after taking a shower, his hair still dripping with water. Jiang Si was leaning against the headboard looking at a tablet. Seeing him come out, he put the tablet down and picked up a hairdryer he had already prepared. He beckoned him over. “Come here.”
Pei Ye obediently walked over and sat on the rug, his back to the bed. He let Jiang Si’s fingers run through his damp hair as the warm wind hummed in his ears. After a period of silence, appearing to be choosing his words, Pei Ye spoke slowly. His voice was somewhat muffled by the noise of the dryer. “Feng Jun said today that there is a bet going on.”
“Mhm?” Jiang Si responded nonchalantly, without stopping his movements.
“They are betting on who is on top and who is on the bottom between us.” Pei Ye paused. “Almost everyone bet on you.”
Jiang Si’s fingers gently combed through his hair, but he said nothing.
Pei Ye continued, “Only one person bet on me. The ID is S.”
The sound of the hairdryer stopped. Jiang Si turned off the switch, and the room became instantly quiet. Pei Ye felt the person behind him move slightly, and then he heard a very faint, low laugh, filled with undisguised pleasure and a certain mockery.
“Those idiots,” Jiang Si said, his voice full of amusement.
Pei Ye turned around and looked at him. Jiang Si was also looking down at him, a trace of cunning flickering in his eyes and a meaningful curve at the corners of his mouth.
“S is me,” Jiang Si said flatly, as if he were speaking of something inconsequential.
In an instant, Pei Ye understood everything. The person with the ID S, the only one who bet on him and placed a heavy stake, the person Feng Jun called an idiot, was the leader of Skeleton himself, Jiang Si.
His Master probably knew about the bet long ago, and might even have been the one to unintentionally push the spread of certain rumors. He had laid the trap long ago, waiting to see those self-righteous fools lose everything.
“Those guys are truly stupid. I can make a huge profit again.” Finally, S himself summarized the situation with such indifference.
Pei Ye turned and looked at Jiang Si’s rarely revealed, somewhat childishly proud expression. His heart felt as though it were soaking in warm water, becoming incredibly soft. He reached out and hugged Jiang Si’s waist, burying his face in his lap.
“Master,” he murmured.
Jiang Si was in a great mood and rubbed his hair, which was still warm. “Mhm. Good boy.”
He was so cute.
