Don't You like Little Dogs? Now that I'm Taking Liberties, You're Suddenly Reluctant? - Chapter 58
Following the Golden Den casino incident, the Skeleton leadership handled the remaining cleanup with thunderous speed. This news of an internal purge acted like a stone thrown into a stagnant pond, quickly spreading throughout the underworld.
The ripples it caused were far more complex than expected. On one hand, the authority of the organization was consolidated once more, as no one dared to question the methods of the leader, Jiang Si.
On the other hand, more secretive rumors began to spread quietly. However, the focus was not on the casino itself, but on Jiang Si and Pei Ye walking out of the casino doors side by side that night.
Sometime earlier, members within the organization had already begun to cast glances toward these two. These were not negative looks, but something far more subtle; was there actually a hint of gossip in their eyes?
After a period of observation by the members of the organization regarding these two big shots, almost everyone with even a bit of discernment reached the same conclusion simultaneously. The two most terrifying figures in the Skeleton organization were together. Furthermore, both of them were gay.
Their respected boss, Fourth Brother Jiang Si, was gay! And he was dating his subordinate, Pei Ye! It was simply preposterous!
Various speculations circulated privately within the organization, but no one dared to confirm them. That was until one day, the well-informed Vice Captain of the First Squad, Feng Jun, was surrounded by people during a training break.
“Brother Feng Jun, is it true? Fourth Brother and Brother Ye?”
Feng Jun rarely put away his smile. He looked around, lowered his voice, and wore an expression of pride as if he held the core secrets. “Damn, you guys are just finding out?”
“We did not know! That is why we are asking.”
“Tell us, Brother Feng Jun. We are curious. Is our boss really that?”
Feng Jun looked at the group of gossip-mongers, and his smile reappeared, looking profound and unpredictable. “Come here, I will tell you. Last time after a mission, we returned to headquarters. Fourth Brother called Little Six into his office for a private report, and the door was closed for a long time. Later, I went in to deliver documents for my brother. Guess what? There was a mark on the back of Little Six’s neck! Fourth Brother was sitting on the sofa with an expression that was, tsk.”
He paused at exactly the right moment, leaving everyone with infinite room for imagination.
“Holy crap.” “No way.” “Oh my god.”
It was a rare moment of unison. This detail of having seen it with his own eyes acted like a heavy bombshell, instantly confirming everyone’s suspicions.
The organization fell into a brief silence before various reactions erupted; it was mostly a mix of realization after the initial shock and the excitement of thinking it was “as expected.” After all, the aura between those two had long surpassed that of ordinary superiors and subordinates. Some members of the organization had already noticed.
“Whoa! It is true!” “I knew it! The way Brother Ye looks at Fourth Brother is just not right!” “It is over, my dreams are shattered. The two big shots are keeping it internal.”
The wails of certain secret admirers occasionally appeared on the organization’s information network or what some people thought was a “confession wall,” although these posts were quickly deleted by the regulatory group. The news grew wings and flew across the entire circle. The leader of Skeleton, Jiang Si, and his sharpest blade, Pei Ye, were in a relationship, and it looked like it was for real. This became the most explosive gossip in the circle.
The Adjutant’s external communicator was nearly blown up these past few days. All sorts of prominent figures were trying to fish for the truth in a roundabout way. The Adjutant was clearly helpless, but he maintained a professional tone, giving only one official reply to all inquiries, “Fourth Brother’s private affairs are not for public knowledge.”
Today, Pei Ye was rarely borrowed by the First Squad to execute a mission. On the rooftop terrace of the organization’s building, Jiang Si and the Adjutant happened to meet. The Adjutant naturally handed Jiang Si a cigarette. After watching him light it, he spoke with a bit of a tease. “Fourth Brother, although I had a feeling, I did not expect you two to move so fast.”
And so boldly.
Jiang Si took a puff of his cigarette and looked down at the tiny flow of traffic below, his face devoid of expression. “What are you trying to say?”
The Adjutant smiled. “I just did not expect you to hide it so well, Fourth Brother. So you really are that?”
Jiang Si glanced at him and let out a soft laugh. “It has nothing to do with gender.” He flicked the ash. “It just happens to be Pei Ye.”
The person he liked just happened to be Pei Ye. These words were spoken calmly, but they made the Adjutant pause before nodding in understanding. This explained more than any gossip ever could. It was not about orientation or impulse, but a specific person.
“Fine.” He nodded and stopped asking. He simply felt emotional in his heart. That kid Pei Ye, just how much luck did he accumulate over several lifetimes, or perhaps, what kind of ill-fated relationship was it to meet someone like Fourth Brother who shared a similar “condition.”
“What about you?” Jiang Si suddenly mentioned for no apparent reason.
“What?” The Adjutant did not understand.
“Are you not going to find someone?” Jiang Si extinguished his cigarette and looked up at him.
The Adjutant blinked and pointed at himself, as if he did not understand what kind of “crazy talk” the other was saying. “Who? Me? Myself?”
Jiang Si nodded.
Adjutant: “…”
Wait, he felt like he had heard these words somewhere before. It seemed not long ago he had just teased Cang Jun with the same thing. Karma truly came in a full circle, asking the question back to him.
“Not interested,” the Adjutant said with a lack of confidence.
“Ha,” Jiang Si let out a low laugh, his hands propped against the railing as he tilted his head back. “Who knows.”
He had also said before that he was not interested in dating. But now, there was nothing he could do. Now, whenever he saw a certain puppy looking up at him with red eyes and a pitiful expression, he had absolutely no resistance. He had truly been spoiled. He accepted it, since he was the one who had indulged him. He would take responsibility.
Watching Jiang Si looking as though he were immersed in his own world, the Adjutant turned back to look at the burning cigarette butt in his hand and lowered his eyes. Find a partner? What a joke. At this moment, he finally understood what Cang Jun was thinking when he teased him. Asking him to find a partner was more difficult than asking him to organize the intelligence for the entire organization by himself.
