- Divorcing Right After Enlisting? The Army Commander Hugs Her Waist and Coaxes His Little One
- Chapter 7 - Blushing Already?
“It is nothing.”
Zhou Yishen had clearly seen what it was and coughed in embarrassment. Sister Lian was truly too meddlesome; she even managed these kinds of affairs.
Seeing Zhou Yishen blushing, Ruan Qiu found it hard not to smile. This upright, iron-willed man was actually blushing because of the items in her hand. If they were to lead a married life in the future, would he be too shy to function?
Should she also act a bit more bashful? Otherwise, she might not seem like someone from this era.
Forget it. In her past life, she was a person of indifferent temperament. It would be unnatural to try to be passionate now.
With Sister Lian’s contribution, their dinner was much more substantial.
After dinner, Zhou Yishen rushed to do the dishes while Ruan Qiu returned to the room to read. While reading, she hid the items in the drawer.
After Zhou Yishen finished showering and entered the room, he saw Ruan Qiu reading under the lamp. Seeing her so focused, he did not disturb her. He spread out his bedding on the floor and lay down.
When Ruan Qiu grew tired, she put down her book. Seeing Zhou Yishen already lying on the floor, she felt a bit guilty.
“It is your turn to sleep on the bed tonight.”
“I prefer sleeping on the floor.”
Zhou Yishen closed his eyes. As a man, how could he let a girl sleep on the floor?
Ruan Qiu pursed her lips and smiled softly; this man was quite cute.
She got up, grabbed her pajamas, and went out. After washing up and returning to the room, she sneezed twice in a row.
“Did you catch a cold?”
Zhou Yishen opened his eyes and sat up. “I will go find you some medicine.”
“No need, I was just chilled from the cold water. It is fine, I will be better after a night’s sleep.”
Ruan Qiu opened the room’s only wardrobe to look for another quilt, but there were none.
Zhou Yishen understood her intention and placed the bedding he had laid on the floor onto the bed.
“I am in good health; I will be fine without a quilt tonight. You should cover yourself with an extra layer and sweat it out.”
Ruan Qiu glanced at Zhou Yishen. She had to admit, this man’s physique was excellent. His well-trained shoulders and abdominal muscles made him look very strong.
In her past life, due to her work, she had never married nor had a boyfriend, but that did not stop her from occasionally browsing pictures of muscular men. However, those men were usually filtered or enhanced, whereas the man before her was robust and truly powerful.
“Although the weather is warmer, the temperature is still a bit low at night. Why don’t you sleep on the bed too?”
It would not be right to let him sleep on the floor shirtless; Ruan Qiu could not bring herself to do that.
Zhou Yishen looked at the floor bedding, then at the bed, and his earlobes began to turn red again.
“Do not misunderstand, I do not mean anything else. If you feel it is inappropriate, then.”
“Fine.”
As soon as he said that, Zhou Yishen quickly climbed onto the bed and lay down, leaving a large space for Ruan Qiu.
Ruan Qiu pursed her lips to suppress a smile. Although teasing an innocent battalion commander might not be very kind, it was quite fun.
Ruan Qiu lay down as well, shared half the quilt with Zhou Yishen, and patted his shoulder. “Goodnight.”
In the morning, Ruan Qiu did not let Zhou Yishen drive her; she loved the feeling of independence. Having someone drive her everywhere felt uncomfortable, especially since the distance was not far.
As she left the family quarters, a woman walked past her crying. It was the mother-in-law of the woman who had fallen down the stairs yesterday. She was crying while walking outside, shouting something about her “precious grandson.” Although it was a dialect, Ruan Qiu could understand half of it.
In short, her words were filled with guilt, but the object of her guilt was only that unborn grandson. There was no mention of the woman at all.
Ruan Qiu was even more certain that the woman’s fall was not as simple as it seemed. However, Ruan Qiu had developed a habit of not being a busybody. Besides, she did not know this family, and she did not want to get involved in matters she did not understand.
When Ruan Qiu arrived at the military hospital, she bumped into Zhou Yinian and Tian Ruanruan at the entrance, looking as if they were loath to part.
“Sister-in-law.”
Tian Ruanruan saw Ruan Qiu, waved at Zhou Yinian, and walked over to Ruan Qiu to hook her arm.
Ruan Qiu was not used to Tian Ruanruan’s intimacy. She calmly pulled her arm back and tilted her head to look at her.
“I am sorry, we are not that close.”
She then walked ahead.
Tian Ruanruan felt a bit awkward but followed her anyway.
Today’s task was to follow senior nurses to care for patients and learn basic nursing operations. They were assigned to both general wards and intensive care units. Nurse Yan assigned Ruan Qiu to the intensive care unit and reminded her to provide comprehensive care for the patients.
Ruan Qiu glanced at Nurse Yan; it seemed she had found a way to make things difficult for her.
It did not matter; she was indifferent.
In her past life, she had handled much more difficult missions; she did not take these petty schemes to heart.
As it happened, the patient Ruan Qiu was assigned to care for was Xiao Tao, the pregnant woman who had fallen down the stairs yesterday.
“When she was sent over yesterday, she was already on the verge of death. If it weren’t for Dr. Qin’s accurate judgment, she might not have survived. But the fall was too severe, and the baby could not be saved.” Nurse Yunyun, who was guiding Ruan Qiu, gave her some background on the patient.
Dr. Qin, she assumed, was the male doctor on the ambulance yesterday.
His judgment?
It was clearly her who had reminded him, yet he had treated her with disdain at the time. Now, it had become his judgment?
Ruan Qiu understood the situation, but she did not say anything and silently followed Nurse Yunyun to learn.
Around nine o’clock, the doctors began their rounds. That Dr. Qin arrived, followed by several apprentices.
“What is going on with her?”
Dr. Qin only glanced around the ward before his eyes landed on Ruan Qiu. Because of the patient’s family members’ comments last night, he had taken a second look at Ruan Qiu and remembered her.
Today, she was actually in the hospital, wearing a nurse’s uniform.
That such a young person could have such professional judgment was truly irritating.
“Dr. Qin, this is one of our trainees,” Nurse Yunyun introduced.
Dr. Qin frowned. “A trainee? That means she is not yet qualified for an internship. Why was she brought into the intensive care unit?”
Nurse Yunyun was taken aback. What was wrong with Dr. Qin?
Bringing trainees to practice was a hospital policy, and familiarizing them with the intensive care unit was a critical step. Why would Dr. Qin ask such a question?
“I am asking you! What is going on?” Dr. Qin’s brow furrowed deeper, and his look became colder.
“Dr. Qin, is it?” Ruan Qiu stepped forward with a faint smile. “I am a medical trainee. Although I am not qualified for an internship yet, it is hospital policy. Before the final spots are determined, we all have the opportunity to learn from senior nurses.”
Dr. Qin’s brow furrowed even deeper, and there was a touch of disgust in his eyes when he looked at Ruan Qiu.
Although this girl did not look very old, the tone of her speech was quite arrogant. Combined with her precise judgment, Dr. Qin did not like her at all.
“Change her. I do not need this kind of nurse here.”
“Dr. Qin, you probably cannot change me. I am a military dependent.” Ruan Qiu pulled out her status as Zhou Yishen’s wife.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Qin looked at Ruan Qiu again, and his unhappiness grew.
So, what if she was a military dependent? This was a military hospital; it was not a place where just anyone could come to secure a position.
“Truly preposterous.”
With that, he led his apprentices away.
