Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 9
Military training was monotonous and tedious. Every day, they had to wake up shortly after dawn and report to the training ground before 7 a.m., where they would spend the entire day. They wore rough uniforms that chafed their skin and stiff, iron-like shoes, enduring long hours under the scorching sun while repeating the same familiar drills over and over again. It was exhausting and mind-numbingly dull.
Amid everyone’s eager anticipation, the month-long military training finally came to an end, ushering in the first National Day holiday since starting university.
At that moment, Liu Wuyi was happily packing her things.
“Xiaoxiao, are you only staying in the dorm for a month too?” Liu Wuyi asked, noticing that Xiaoxiao had packed her bedding and other belongings into her suitcase.
“My home is in Haicheng, not far from the university.”
Liu Wuyi was quite surprised to learn that Xiaoxiao was from Haicheng, as her accent and eating habits seemed distinctly southern.
“Oh my god, my face! How did it get so dark?”
Jiang Lehan had just finished a video call with her family and burst back into the dormitory, shouting frantically and hopping around in agitation. Her eyes suddenly landed on Liu Wuyi, who was busy packing, and she became even more distraught. “How come you didn’t get tanned at all? That’s just unfair!”
Liu Wuyi took after her Omega mother and had inherited her fair, sun-resistant skin. Since childhood, she had rarely tanned. Jiang Lehan, on the other hand, though naturally fair-skinned, tanned easily. If the two of them spent a day playing under the sun, Jiang Lehan’s face would turn bright red, and by the next day, it would be noticeably darker.
“What, did Aunt Jiang make fun of you?”
Liu Wuyi used every ounce of self-control to keep from laughing at Jiang Lehan and said, “I told you you’d get lazy with sunscreen and skincare during this time, but you didn’t believe me. Bringing all those skincare products was just for show.”
“I was just too exhausted during training. Waking up so early every day, by the time I got back to the dorm and finished washing up, all I wanted was to collapse on the bed. I had no energy for anything extra,” Jiang Lehan insisted stubbornly.
“So what if an Alpha gets a little tan? Maybe some Omegas are into tanned, spicy girls,” Xiaoxiao chimed in. After a month together, the three of them had grown close and often joked around like this.
“Oh, so you’re all making fun of me now?” Jiang Lehan gritted her teeth, rolled up her sleeves as if ready for a fight, and moved to pull Xiaoxiao down from her bed.
Suddenly, a loud bang echoed from outside the door clearly, someone had kicked it.
Liu Wuyi, who had just climbed down from her bed and was closest to the door, reached out and opened it. As the door swung open, a familiar face appeared before them.
It was the fourth member of their dorm, Jing Yao, the same unreasonable person they had encountered on the first day of university.
On move-in day, the three of them had already guessed that Jing Yao came from a powerful background. She had openly violated school rules and regulations, hadn’t spent a single night in the dorm all month, and was completely absent during military training. Yet, no one had questioned or held her accountable not even the evening roll-call teacher, who had never once called her name.
The moment Jing Yao stepped inside, she carried herself with an air of superiority, looking down on the others with disdain. A few bodyguards followed her in, swiftly packed her belongings, and left. Before leaving, Jing Yao deliberately shot Liu Wuyi a glare and slammed the door shut with such force that a large chunk of plaster fell from the wall.
“Damn, she’s way too full of herself.”
“Jiang Lehan, why haven’t you started packing yet? I’m already done. If you keep this up, I’m leaving first.” Liu Wuyi, worried Jiang Lehan might stir up trouble, quickly spoke up to divert her attention.
“Alright, alright, I’m packing. Wait for me.”
It was baffling how Jiang Lehan managed it when she first moved into the dorm, she brought five suitcases, but now, moving out, not only were those five suitcases stuffed to the brim, but they still couldn’t hold all her belongings.
Faced with Jiang Lehan’s pleading, Liu Wuyi had no choice but to take two suitcases back to the apartment first, empty them, and then return to the dorm to help pack the rest of Jiang Lehan’s things.
Finally, after hauling all the luggage back to the apartment, both of them were completely exhausted. They sprawled on the sofa, scrolling through their phones, with the luggage scattered all over the living room neither had the energy to tidy up.
Suddenly, Jiang Lehan turned off her phone and sat up, looking as if she’d just received some exciting news. She enthusiastically kicked Liu Wuyi, who was lying at the other end of the sofa, and asked, “There’s a gathering tonight organized by some rich kids here in Haicheng. Wanna go? It’s at Blue Sea Pavilion, not far from here.”
“I already casually agreed to go.”
“If you’ve agreed, how can I not go?” Liu Wuyi paused her scrolling and sighed helplessly.
“Come on, it’s good to make more friends. There’s no harm in it.”
Jiang Lehan had always loved socializing since she was young, easily calling anyone her “bestie.” She never tired of dragging Liu Wuyi along to meet new people, and Liu Wuyi had long grown accustomed to it.
By 7 p.m., the city lights had begun to glow, and Haicheng, this bustling metropolis, grew even more dazzling under the night sky. In the sweltering summer heat, people seemed to prefer going out in the evening, as the night breeze offered a slight respite from the daytime scorching temperatures.
Blue Sea Pavilion.
“Ji Yunshu, take this wine to the third floor,” instructed a woman dressed as a head waitress.
“Which private room?”
“There’s only one large private room on the third floor. I told you before enter through the door facing the staircase. It leads to a small anteroom of the private room. Make sure you don’t go through the main entrance.”
The young woman named Ji Yunshu acknowledged the instruction, deftly picked up the red wine on a tray, and was about to leave the wine cellar when the head waitress called out to her again, “The third floor is reserved for VIPs today. Be extra careful.”
After Ji Yunshu left the wine cellar, a tall, slender waiter whispered, “Sister Li, is this really appropriate? The one who booked the entire floor today is that young lady. Why did you send Yunshu, an Omega, up there?” His tone seemed to imply he was genuinely concerned for Ji Yunshu.
“If you thought it was inappropriate, why didn’t you say anything while she was still here? Waiting until she’s gone to speak up?” The head waitress’s eyes held a faint trace of disdain.
With the National Day holiday in full swing, Blue Sea Pavilion was fully booked every day. The staff was already stretched thin, and everyone was running off their feet. If it weren’t for an Omega server, responsible for delivering drinks, suddenly going into heat, and if Ji Yunshu hadn’t fit the appearance requirements, the head waitress wouldn’t have hired an inexperienced college student temporarily at triple the pay.
The head waitress knew this tall, slender waiter meant well but lacked tact. She didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. “Don’t worry, it’s not just that young lady alone in there. She wouldn’t dare cause trouble for a young girl in front of so many people.”
“Not necessarily.”
“What are you mumbling about over there? Have you finished your tasks?”
“Got it, stop nagging.”
“This guy. Am I the supervisor, or are you? Your attitude is way too arrogant.”
Following the supervisor’s instructions, Ji Yunshu entered a small partition within the large private room through a side door. Inside the partition, she carefully decanted the wine and then cautiously carried it into the main area.
“Ladies, here is the wine you ordered.” Just as Ji Yunshu placed the decanted wine on the dining table and was about to turn to leave, a slender, well-defined hand gently rested on her delicate, pale hand.
This was an Alpha!
At first, Ji Yunshu thought the sudden touch was merely accidental and tried to carefully withdraw her hand. However, the owner of that hand was not content to let it go and attempted to persist.
“Madam, what are you doing?” A startled exclamation brought complete silence to the private room.
“It was just an accidental touch. Is this how Blue Sea Pavilion treats its customers? Go get your manager.” The unfamiliar Alpha was clearly flustered and angry.
Liu Wuyi had only pushed the door open a crack when she heard the commotion inside. Exchanging a glance with Jiang Lehan, she immediately understood the situation in the room.
“Everyone arrived so early! Are you all waiting for us in such silence?” Liu Wuyi deliberately pushed the door open with force, creating a loud noise, and strode in with an exaggerated air, speaking loudly.
The sudden noise startled everyone, and Ji Yunshu seized the opportunity to slip quietly out of the room. As she passed by Liu Wuyi, she paused for a moment and whispered, “Thank you,” before hastily fleeing.
The “thank you” was indeed so soft that Liu Wuyi didn’t even hear it. All she noticed was a pale profile and a faint, elusive scent of osmanthus in the air.
“Long time no see, Liu Wuyi.” The familiar tone made it sound as if the two were longtime close friends.
Liu Wuyi turned toward the voice.
It was actually Jing Yao!
“Damn, if we’d known you were the one who organized this, we wouldn’t have come.”
As soon as Liu Wuyi said this, the atmosphere in the room instantly grew tense. Almost everyone turned to look at Jing Yao, who only paled slightly but remained silent, taking the decanter from a girl beside her and quietly drinking.
The others exchanged glances, unsure how to respond, and the room fell into an awkward silence.
After a long while, Jing Yao broke the stillness with her cool voice. “I heard that Miss Liu is a music major. The piano in this room is quite nice. Would you like to give it a try?”
The piano was indeed impressive.
Liu Wuyi had noticed it shortly after entering the room. She had an identical one at her home in Beijing.
A Steinway NOE Limited Edition B-211 grand piano, one of only 88 in the world, priced at around 3 million. For a custom version, the price could be even higher. The fact that Blue Sea Pavilion could openly display such a high-end piano in a public space suggested an extraordinary background, Liu Wuyi thought.
Jiang Lehan raised an eyebrow and retorted, “Who do you think you are, daring to ask Wuyi to perform for you?”
The girl who was more familiar with Jiang Lehan spoke up: “Hey, Lehan, you can’t put it like that. This gathering today was organized by Miss Jing. You all know how hard it is to get a reservation at Blue Sea Pavilion. We’re only able to dine here thanks to Miss Jing. As for you all being able to come.”
Someone chimed in, drowning out the rest of the girl’s words: “Exactly! We’re all either from Haicheng or here for university, and our backgrounds aren’t too different. It’s fate that we’ve come together. Isn’t someone with a music background just meant to sing for others? How about Wu Yi treats us to a song now, so we can all enjoy ourselves?”
Jiang Lehan frowned, about to say something more, but Liu Wuyi nudged her leg under the table, signaling her to stay quiet. Then, Liu Wuyi stood up, left her seat, and settled onto the piano bench. She lifted the keyboard cover and raised an eyebrow at Jing Yao, asking, “What would you like to hear?”
Jing Yao’s gaze held a hint of deeper meaning as she looked at Liu Wuyi. “How about ‘Fireflies’?”
“Seriously, who still listens to such an old.” The girl who was closer to Jiang Lehan started to speak again, but before she could finish, the girl beside her clamped a hand firmly over her mouth.
Liu Wuyi’s fingers danced nimbly across the keys, and the opening notes of “Always Online” filled the air. As she played, she noticed a small gap in the partition of the corner booth, a pair of bright eyes peering through.
In that fleeting moment, she thought she caught the enchanting scent of osmanthus blossoms again.
But how could there be osmanthus in Blue Sea Pavilion?
Liu Wuyi didn’t understand.
