- Did That A Get His Wife Back Today?
- Chapter 10 - Rein in your pheromones, they're suffocating me
In the private room, the final musical note faded away. The gap in the corner door had completely closed, and those beautiful eyes were no longer visible. For some reason, Liu Wuyi felt an inexplicable emptiness in her heart.
Jing Yao had maintained a neutral expression throughout, showing no particular emotion. Yet when the song ended, she set down her wine glass and was the first to applaud slowly but firmly.
“That wasn’t ‘Little Insects Fly,’ was it?” This time, it was Xiao Qingqiu, the girl sitting beside Jing Yao, who spoke. Also an Alpha, she seemed to share a relationship with Jing Yao similar to the one between Jiang Lehan and Liu Wuyi.
“Of course not. I was just asking symbolically, I never said I’d play what she wanted.” Liu Wuyi returned to her seat, shrugged nonchalantly, and raised an eyebrow at Jing Yao, a clear hint of provocation in her gaze.
“You’re really something. Weren’t you the one who asked A-Yao what she wanted to hear?” Xiao Qingqiu was puzzled. “What’s the point of asking if you’re not going to play it?”
“No point at all. I’m just stubborn.” Liu Wuyi flashed a fake smile at both of them. “Do you think you’re so important that I have to do everything you say?”
“Hey, you!” Xiao Qingqiu couldn’t argue with her and turned to press a button on the wall. “Forget it. Out of respect for A-Yao, I won’t bother with you. Let’s eat.”
To facilitate service while avoiding disruptions from waitstaff frequently entering and exiting, Blue Sea Pavilion had installed call devices in every private room. Pressing the button would summon someone to serve the dishes.
Soon, a waitstaff emerged from a small side room, pushing a multi-tiered cart. Carefully, they placed one exquisite dish after another on the dining table.
At that moment, Liu Wuyi, with a glimmer of anticipation, discreetly glanced at the waitstaff. But when her eyes met theirs, she was sorely disappointed.
Not those eyes.
She then glanced sideways into the side room, it was empty.
“Hey, who ordered these dishes? Almost all of them are your favorites.” Jiang Lehan muttered quietly in confusion, nudging Liu Wuyi beside her with an elbow to get her attention.
But Liu Wuyi seemed completely lost in thought, showing no reaction. Jiang Lehan turned to look and realized she was spacing out.
“Hey, what are you thinking about?” Jiang Lehan waved a hand in front of her face.
“Oh nothing,” Liu Wuyi replied.
Just as she finished speaking, they heard Jing Yao lightly tapping the table with her index finger.
Tap!
It felt like a hint, yet carried a certain pressure.
Jiang Lehan, who had some understanding of social cues, was about to compliment the day’s dishes. But Jing Yao was staring directly at Liu Wuyi as she spoke, word by word: “Do today’s dishes suit your taste?”
As soon as she finished, the room fell silent again, and everyone’s eyes turned toward Liu Wuyi.
Some were puzzled, others amused.
They were seated close to Jing Yao, Xiao Qingqiu on her left, Liu Wuyi on her right, and Jiang Lehan next to Liu Wuyi. The seating arrangement was inconvenient, and though Jiang Lehan had spoken very softly earlier, it seemed Jing Yao had still overheard.
But they also had to blame themselves for arriving so late. By the time they got there, everyone else had already taken their seats, leaving no choice but to sit next to Jing Yao.
Now, the gathering felt more and more like a trap set at a banquet.
Under Jing Yao’s gaze, Liu Wuyi finally turned her attention to the dozen or so dishes on the table. A strange feeling arose within her, why were most of them her favorites?!
Was it a coincidence?
Liu Wuyi was puzzled but still picked up a piece of lychee pork in front of her to taste.
Yet this single action amplified the unease in her heart to an extreme.
The flavor of this lychee pork was exactly the same as the one made by the housekeeper at her home. If she didn’t know her mother was someone who cherished old ties, she would have thought her mother had fired all the diligent housekeepers who had worked for over twenty years.
Throughout the meal, Liu Wuyi felt as if she were sitting on pins and needles, constantly sensing that someone was secretly watching and scrutinizing her.
The gaze felt like a venomous snake spotting its long-awaited prey sinister and cold, as if intent on capturing her in one fell swoop, leaving her with no chance to resist.
Yet almost everyone around her was engaged in conversation, making it seem as though it was all just her imagination.
A gathering of fun-loving people would never end with just a meal.
The private room on the third floor of Blue Sea Pavilion was perfectly spacious. One corner was occupied by a bright and cozy dining table, while another corner featured bar-style decor dimly lit and full of ambiance, dividing the third floor into two distinct worlds, complete with everything one could need.
“This amount of alcohol isn’t enough for all of us. What’s the fun in just one person drinking? Since we’re at Blue Sea Pavilion, why not try something else?” Jiang Lehan’s friend stood up, raised her glass, and tapped it with a spoon, creating a clinking sound as she announced with feigned seriousness.
“What else is there? Isn’t Blue Sea Pavilion just a place for dining?” Liu Wuyi asked.
“How would I know? I’ve never been here before,” the two whispered to each other in the corner.
Although Jiang Lehan had never been here, she knew her friend’s tendencies, she loved to have fun and was quite adventurous, trying anything interesting, probably having already conquered every form of entertainment under the sun.
Today, she even wanted to drag Jiang Lehan into it.
Jiang Lehan had always kept the Alpha Code close to heart and found this utterly unacceptable.
Alpha Principle #181: Every Alpha should protect their purity until they meet their true love.
Just then, a group of scantily clad figures pushed the door open and walked in, seemingly carrying something in their hands.
“Holy crap!” Liu Wuyi was the first to exclaim.
“Holy crap!” Jiang Lehan followed immediately.
They had only caught a glimpse but couldn’t stay seated, covering their eyes and desperately trying to hide behind each other.
“I knew you were no good! How could you make a pure-hearted female Alpha like me play this? Ming Jing, are you out of your mind?” Jiang Lehan crouched behind Liu Wuyi, shouting.
In that instant, through the gaps between her fingers, Liu Wuyi accidentally caught sight of the smiling Omega sister in front of her. She immediately breathed a sigh of relief and opened her eyes.
Thankfully, it wasn’t what she had imagined. It was all a misunderstanding caused by their poor eyesight.
The sisters who had entered were, in fact, wearing clothes just rather sexy ones: short V-neck dresses paired with ten-centimeter high heels.
What they were holding in their hands wasn’t anything inappropriate either just a few bottles of alcohol.
At that moment, only four words crossed Liu Wuyi’s mind:
Utterly enchanting.
“Jiang Lehan, open your eyes. It’s not what you think.”
“Don’t even try to fool me, our trust level isn’t exactly high!” Jiang Lehan had been tricked by Liu Wuyi with the same line before, and since then, she’d been once bitten, twice shy.
“Come on, Jiang Lehan, is that really how you see me? What are you even thinking!” Ming Jing frowned, scolding her.
Hearing Ming Jing’s words, Jiang Lehan cautiously cracked open a tiny gap between the fingers she had pressed tightly over her eyes. Seeing the scene in the private room, she finally lowered her hands.
Then, she gave Ming Jing an awkward smile and explained, “My mind went to the wrong place, sorry about that. I’ll punish myself with three drinks, three drinks.”
“Alright, apology accepted. Miss, pour her some.”
With beautiful companions, soft music, and fine wine, everyone’s minds gradually grew hazy under the influence of alcohol. In such a state, absurd incidents were all too likely to occur.
At that moment, a tequila-like scent of pheromones began to spread slowly from its source, stirring up unwarranted anger in the alphas and tugging at the heartstrings of the omegas.
Liu Wuyi, being close to the source, caught it immediately. “Rein in your pheromones, they’re overwhelming me.”
Jing Yao set down her wine cup upon hearing this, her tone almost accusatory: “Going out without wearing a pheromone blocker are you trying to flirt or just be a creep?”
“I’ll go to the service counter right away to get one.”
Even in the dim lighting, Liu Wuyi clearly saw the accused alpha’s face flush bright red instantly. Covering the back of her neck with one hand, she stammered and stumbled out of the private room, moving awkwardly.
The alpha staggered to the service counter only to find it completely empty.
“Where is everyone at the service counter? Where did they all disappear to?” She shouted for a while but got no response. Immediately shedding her timid demeanor from the private room, she began panting heavily and, in the next moment, swept all the equipment off the counter with one furious motion.
At Lan Hai Ge, staff assigned to the service counter weren’t fixed to that position they were like bricks, moved wherever needed.
During the National Day holiday, Lan Hai Ge was short-staffed, so the service counter happened to be unattended. Perhaps due to drunken confusion, or maybe just to throw her weight around, the woman had yelled at the counter. In reality, all she needed to do was press the call button on the desk, and someone would have come to assist her.
“Sister Li, the alcohol has been delivered to the third floor.” Ji Yunshu returned to the staff break room.
“Good. The service counter should be empty now. Since you two have nothing else to do, go man the counter. Standing around idle won’t look good if the manager sees you.”
The other employee assigned by Sister Li seemed to have been working nonstop for a long time and was just about to take a break when she was sent to the service counter instead. Her expression shifted briefly, but she still got up to leave.
“Hey, you two, unless you’re going to the third floor, you should always wear your masks. Don’t you understand basic hygiene?”
“If Yunshu forgets, that’s one thing, but you’ve been here how long? How could you forget?” Sister Li furrowed her brow, her tone carrying a hint of reproach.
On the way to the first-floor service counter, the atmosphere was somewhat awkward. “You’re really lucky with this part-time job landing service duties on the third floor right away. They’ve ordered quite a few hostesses tonight, so your bonus is probably going to be hefty.”
“Sister?” Ji Yunshu paused in her steps, her eyes slightly dazed, an expression of disbelief on her face.
Another employee was amused by her reaction and chuckled. “What are you thinking? Blue Sea Pavilion runs a legitimate business. ‘Sisters’ here are just good-looking Betas or Omegas who can hold their liquor. Some even prefer Alpha drinking companions strictly for drinking, nothing else. Whatever you’re imagining is strictly forbidden at Blue Sea Pavilion.”
“Ah, why am I even telling this to a clueless college student like you?”
Then did she also hire someone to drink with her?
Ji Yunshu didn’t want to think that way, but once an idea takes root, it’s hard to shake off.
Just then, a series of clattering noises came from not far away, seemingly from the direction of the service counter. The two exchanged a glance and instinctively quickened their pace.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, ma’am. You can state your request, but you really shouldn’t be damaging our equipment like this,” the employee said anxiously.
“What do you mean by that? Are you looking down on me? Do you think I can’t afford to pay for it?”
“If others look down on me, fine, but even you service staff are looking down on me!” Shouting and making a scene, she suddenly burst into tears.
Ji Yunshu was only a part-time employee, and her colleague had never dealt with a situation like this before. Both were momentarily at a loss.
Fortunately, Ji Yunshu managed to stay calm. She quickly asked her companion to fetch some napkins while she hurriedly explained to the customer, “Ma’am, you’ve misunderstood. We didn’t mean it that way.”
Just then, Liu Wuyi, who had had a bit too much to drink, suddenly felt the need to use the restroom. The restroom in her private room was occupied, so she had to go downstairs to find one.
Stumbling along the corridor in a daze, she somehow ended up downstairs, as if guided by an invisible force, and witnessed the scene.
A Beta and an Omega were facing an enraged Alpha. Even though the Alpha was in tears, Liu Wuyi’s judgment kicked in, and she sobered up a little. Instinctively, she shouted, “Hey, what are you doing? Are you bullying someone?”
But as soon as she said this, the Alpha started crying even louder.
Liu Wuyi was instantly flustered, unsure what to do with her hands and feet. She quickly snatched the napkins from one of the service staff and tossed them to the Alpha, saying, “Damn, I haven’t even scolded you yet. I just asked you to get a scent-blocking patch, why are you crying? Aren’t you embarrassed?”
“After everything I’ve been through today, I’ve already lost all face. I’m not afraid of a little more embarrassment,” the woman sobbed, casting a resentful look at Liu Wuyi, as if blaming her.
She did have a point.
But what was there to cry about? Liu Wuyi didn’t get it.
Growing up, she had been taught that when going out, one must always carry scent-blocking patches. If it was during a sensitive period, it was best to avoid going out altogether. If one absolutely had to go out, a muzzle was essential to avoid most troubles.
Seeing an exception today, Liu Wuyi was genuinely surprised.
