Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 8
September marks the start of the academic year, and Haicheng, a city teeming with universities, is bustling with excitement.
Every day, senior student volunteers gather at train stations and airports to welcome new students, while university gates are crowded with freshmen and their families, injecting a fresh vitality into the city.
After the college entrance exams, Liu Wuyi and Jiang Lehan embarked on a worldwide trip together, only returning home as the holiday drew to a close.
Following their travels, Liu Wuyi headed to her Omega mother’s residence in Haicheng, while Jiang Lehan returned alone to Jing City. Once Jiang Lehan had packed her belongings and arrived in Haicheng, the two moved directly into Liu Wuyi’s small apartment near Haicheng University.
On the day of orientation, the streets around the campus were jam-packed with traffic. All the new students arriving by car had to get out and walk with their luggage. In contrast, Liu Wuyi and Jiang Lehan set off from their apartment complex, just a ten-minute walk from the university, making their journey incredibly convenient.
Liu Wuyi only brought a small suitcase, packed with daily necessities and two sets of pajamas. Since military training would last only a month and they’d be wearing uniforms most of the time, she saw no need to bring much. If anything was missing, she could always return to the apartment to get it.
Jiang Lehan, however, was a different story. She had brought a mountain of belongings five suitcases in total filled with clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, and cosmetics, all inspired by her idol. She also packed posters, autographed photos, and countless other items of the sort.
Liu Wuyi had tried to persuade her to pack less, warning that it would be difficult to move everything into the dorm. But Jiang Lehan insisted with utmost seriousness that these were her “spiritual sustenance,” each item indispensable.
Before leaving for the university, Liu Wuyi had firmly declared that she wouldn’t help carry any of Jiang Lehan’s luggage. Yet, the moment they stepped out and she saw Jiang Lehan struggling, she relented and kindly took two suitcases.
“Why does our university have such an unreasonable rule about staying in the dorm during military training? What’s so great about dorms? Your apartment is only ten minutes away so much more convenient. Staying in the dorm is just asking for trouble,” Jiang Lehan grumbled the entire way, her frustration so intense that she even kicked a few innocent stones along the path.
“Staying in the dorm is more practical. During military training, we have to be on the field by 7 a.m. even earlier than an 8 a.m. class. If we lived off-campus, do you think you’d make it on time?”
Jiang Lehan fell silent.
Liu Wuyi knew that Jiang Lehan had been pampered since childhood, never having endured any hardship, and had high standards for her living conditions. There was no way she would adapt easily to dorm life.
“Just bear with it for a month.”
“Fine, fine,” Jiang Lehan replied reluctantly.
After much effort, they finally dragged the suitcases to the dormitory building. Just as Jiang Lehan was about to breathe a sigh of relief, her expression quickly soured.
Haicheng University is one of the top institutions in the country. Although its overall ranking is slightly below that of Jing City University, Haicheng University excels in certain disciplines, such as the music program that Liu Wuyi is enrolled in. As a result, the two universities are often compared. Yet, no one could have anticipated that Haicheng University’s dormitory conditions would be far inferior to Jing City University’s. The dorm building stands ten stories high with no elevator.
And as fate would have it, Jiang Lehan and Liu Wuyi were the “lucky ones” assigned to the tenth floor.
“Is this the dorm building we’re going to live in?” Jiang Lehan stared wide-eyed and exclaimed in disbelief.
“Are your eyes just for decoration? Can’t you see what’s in front of you?”
“Oh my god, why is there no elevator? How am I supposed to carry all this stuff?”
“By brute force, obviously. Hurry up, people behind us are waiting for us to move.” With that, Liu Wuyi ignored Jiang Lehan, who looked as if she were about to fall apart, grabbed two suitcases, and charged up to the tenth floor in one go.
Pressed by the people behind them, Jiang Lehan had no choice but to grab two suitcases and rush up to the tenth floor as well. Taking turns with Liu Wuyi, they finally managed to haul all their luggage to the dormitory door.
“Whoa, what’s that smell? It’s so strong. Are they fighting or something?”
As soon as they pushed the door open, an overwhelming wave of tobacco-scented pheromones washed over them, a mix of rain-soaked cigarette ash and cheap tobacco, exuding unmistakable provocation and aggression. Liu Wuyi immediately covered Jiang Lehan’s mouth, knowing she was prone to saying things that would only make matters worse.
Although the owner of the tobacco pheromones hadn’t intended to target them directly, the sudden exposure was enough to irritate anyone.
Among Alphas, releasing pheromones usually meant, “I want to fight you.” It was a matter of survival of the fittest higher-level pheromones suppressing lower-level ones, creating a sense of dominance and satisfaction.
“Hey, what are you doing? Why are you bullying our classmate?”
Suppressing the urge to release her own pheromones in retaliation, Jiang Lehan stepped forward first to help the student who was being pinned to the ground. Meanwhile, Liu Wuyi restrained the other student by pressing them against the wall.
“Damn it, let me go!” The person struggled, but Liu Wuyi’s grip was too strong, leaving them immobilized and furious.
“It’s only the first day of school. Let’s keep things peaceful. If there’s a conflict, we can talk it out. Do you really want to become infamous campus-wide for violence on the very first day?” Liu Wuyi tried her best to mediate.
“Let. Me. Go.”
“I’ll let you go if you promise to stop releasing your pheromones.”
Realizing that Liu Wuyi wasn’t someone to be easily pushed around, the person gradually reined in their pheromones.
With the help of the dormitory’s pheromone purifier, the pungent and unpleasant scent finally dissipated. True to her word, Liu Wuyi released her hold.
“Get out of my way, busybody!” Still fuming, the person shot Liu Wuyi a glare, deliberately bumped into her shoulder, and stormed out of the dorm.
“Hey, watch your mouth!”
“Forget it, forget it. I don’t want to become a campus celebrity on the first day.”
Jiang Lehan had always been fiercely protective of her childhood friend and was never one to back down from a fight. If Liu Wuyi hadn’t held her back and repeatedly urged her to calm down, she would have continued the confrontation right then and there.
Once the unexpected conflict subsided, Jiang Lehan cooled off and regained her composure. She turned to their new roommate and extended her hand. “Hello, new roommate! I’m Jiang Lehan, a freshman majoring in Chinese Language and Literature. This is Liu Wuyi, my childhood friend and best friend.”
“Hello, I’m Liu Wuyi, a freshman in the Pop Music program at the College of Music.”
“Xiao Xiao, a freshman in Fashion Design at the College of Fine Arts.”
“What a coincidence, we’re all freshmen! So, what exactly happened just now? Why were you two fighting with pheromones?”
It was no wonder Jiang Lehan was curious. Generally, when conflicts arose between two Alphas, they would start with verbal exchanges before escalating to physical confrontation. It was rare for someone to directly use pheromones to suppress others such behavior was considered extremely rude, no different from that of street thugs.
“I was the first to arrive at the dorm and had already tidied up my bed, but that person immediately demanded I give it up to her. I refused, and what happened next was what you all saw.” Xiao Xiao sighed. She hadn’t expected to encounter such trouble on her very first day at school, a completely undeserved misfortune.
The dormitory was designed for four people, with beds above and desks below. The bed assignments had already been finalized, with labels affixed to each. The other person was likely dissatisfied with the school’s arrangement and wanted to secure a more desirable spot. Unexpectedly, Xiao Xiao was not one to back down easily, which provoked the other into such an impolite outburst. Liu Wuyi nodded inwardly, fully convinced by her own reasoning.
“Her pheromones reflect her character so unreasonable,” Jiang Lehan remarked, her tone dripping with disdain.
Jiang Lehan was naturally sociable and talkative, and the three of them quickly grew familiar as they chatted.
“Ayu, you really didn’t bring much, did you? Just these few bottles of skincare products are they really enough?” Jiang Lehan asked, clumsily folding her clothes while glancing at Liu Wuyi’s nearly empty suitcase.
“Why the surprise? Military training only lasts a month. What’s the point of bringing so much?”
“The sun is so harsh during training. If you don’t take care of your skin and end up with spots or looking unattractive, how will you ever find a girlfriend in the future?”
Liu Wuyi didn’t agree with Jiang Lehan’s perspective. “You’re overthinking it. Trust me, during military training, you’ll be too lazy to bother with skincare.”
“No, no, no. Alpha Rule 235: Maintaining one’s beauty is a must for any qualified Alpha.”
Jiang Lehan concluded decisively that an unattractive Alpha would never be liked by Omegas.
Xiao Xiao’s hesitant voice interrupted their debate. “Did neither of you bring a quilt or a mattress? Sleeping directly on the wooden boards will be very uncomfortable.”
“Huh?”
The two spoke in unison, exchanging bewildered glances. Clearly, they hadn’t realized these items needed to be prepared themselves. Liu Wuyi’s small apartment didn’t even have bedding that fit the dormitory beds.
“Since we need to pick up our military training uniforms now, we can stop by the supermarket on the way to buy mattresses and quilts,” Xiao Xiao suggested, eager to build rapport with the other two.
The three immediately left the dorm and headed to the distribution point for the military training uniforms. Navigating through the crowded area, they painstakingly collected their gear.
“So crowded! I’m drenched in sweat, I can’t stand it. Let’s hurry and buy what we need, then head back to the dorm to shower and wash our hair,” Jiang Lehan exclaimed.
Liu Wuyi wholeheartedly agreed.
Xiao Xiao, having already familiarized herself with the campus, knew the locations of all the shops. She led the other two through a maze of paths to the largest campus supermarket.
After their shopping spree, it became clear that the two had underestimated what they needed to bring. If not for Xiao Xiao’s kindness in helping carry some of the items, they wouldn’t have been able to manage everything in one trip.
As soon as they returned to the dorm, Jiang Lehan and Liu Wuyi began arguing over who would get to shower first, neither willing to back down.
Xiao Xiao interrupted their argument again, “There are two bathrooms in the dorm.”
“Damn!” Not long after they went in, Xiao Xiao heard waves of screams coming from the bathrooms.
No one had expected the dorm’s water heater to be in such terrible condition. The temperature of the showerhead required precise control just a slight turn to the left, and the water was freezing cold, sending shivers down one’s spine; a slight turn to the right, and it was scalding hot enough to peel skin off.
Taking a shower felt like going into battle.
Late at night, Liu Wuyi sat at her desk, opened her tablet, put on headphones, and started watching a musical. Xiao Xiao also sat at her desk, doodling on a piece of drawing paper. Meanwhile, Jiang Lehan lay on her finally tidied-up bed, watching the newly released TV drama starring the goddess she had been longing to see.
Except for that one unconventional person who had already broken the rules that very night by staying out, the dorm was quiet and peaceful.
