- Did That A Get His Wife Back Today?
- Chapter 5 - Yunshu, I've brought you the suppressants.
Ji Yunshu: My heat cycle suddenly started, and I don’t have any extra suppressants at my apartment. Can you buy some for me?
Liu Wuyi: Hang in there, I’m on my way.
Half an hour had passed since Ji Yunshu sent her the message. Liu Wuyi casually wiped the sweat from her neck, fastened her bite guard, and pressed the doorbell to Ji Yunshu’s apartment.
A soft click sounded as the smart lock disengaged.
The moment she stepped inside, an overwhelming wave of pheromones assaulted her. The bite guard, strapped tightly from her face to the nape of her neck, reacted instantly, clamping down even harder, making her glands throb with discomfort.
“Yunshu? Where are you? I brought the suppressants,” Liu Wuyi called out into the dim apartment.
The space was pitch black, with no sign of Ji Yunshu anywhere. Liu Wuyi stood frozen, not daring to move recklessly.
An eerie silence filled the air, broken only by the occasional hum of the pheromone purifier and the faint sound of running water.
“Such a sweet scent champagne roses?”
Just then, the bathroom door creaked open, and a low, velvety voice drifted out along with a cool mist.
Liu Wuyi turned toward the sound, momentarily dazed. Without thinking, she nodded. She hadn’t expected her thick pheromone-blocking patches to fail so completely, nor had she imagined that beneath Ji Yunshu’s cool and gentle exterior lay such a fiery, unrestrained nature.
Ji Yunshu emerged, barefoot, her white dress clinging damply to her skin, her hair still wet. She smiled softly as she approached. “You’re the only one I want.”
Liu Wuyi’s face flushed crimson. The sight of Ji Yunshu’s alluring expression left her flustered, her mind floating somewhere far away.
“Wuyi, can you guess what my pheromone scent is?”
“Osmanthus?”
From the moment she stepped inside, Liu Wuyi had caught the distinct fragrance of Ji Yunshu’s pheromones, so the question wasn’t difficult to answer.
“You’re so clever, guessing it right away.” Ji Yunshu chuckled in praise, subtly taking her hand and guiding her toward the sofa. The heat radiating from Ji Yunshu’s skin seared Liu Wuyi’s palm, making her flinch slightly. Her steps grew clumsy, her limbs moving awkwardly in sync.
“Do you know what osmanthus flowers symbolize?”
“Huh? Oh! Yunshu, let me think.” Only then did Liu Wuyi snap out of her daze, realizing that Ji Yunshu had just quoted the meaning of champagne roses.
“Warm friendship? Endurance and strength? Indifference to fame and fortune?”
With each guess, Ji Yunshu shook her head, clearly unsatisfied.
“None of those. It’s eternal true love,” Ji Yunshu murmured, her red lips parting as she spoke, her words sending Liu Wuyi’s heart into chaos.
At that moment, Liu Wuyi desperately wanted to smack her own forehead to snap out of it to stop the ants of desire racing through her veins.
Ji Yunshu drew closer, her voice husky. “Only my family calls me Yunyun. Everyone else calls me Yunshu or Ji Yunshu even you. You want me to place you in the same category as everyone else in my heart, but I feel like you’re different from all of them. What should we do about that?”
Liu Wuyi hurriedly explained, “N-no, that’s not it! I do want to be special to you. Then can I call you Ayun? Something just for me.”
“Alright, let’s call her Ah Yun.” Just as Liu Wuyi involuntarily reached out to touch Ji Yunshu’s rosy, delicate face, a thin mist suddenly appeared before her eyes, stubbornly refusing to dissipate.
“Ah Yun?” Liu Wuyi blinked hard, only to find Ji Yunshu’s face growing increasingly indistinct, which unsettled her.
When her vision finally cleared, she realized she was lying on the bed in Jiang Lehan’s guest room.
So, it had all been nothing more than a dream born of longing.
And now she was awake.
A profound sense of loss washed over her.
Her phone buzzed with multiple messages. Aside from one from her mother, Liu Xiao, the rest were all from the same person.
[Jiang Lehan: The doctor you asked me to find last night, I’ve sent you her private number. Dr. Xu rambled on about the cause of your voice loss, but I didn’t understand a word. You’d better talk to her yourself.]
[Jiang Lehan: If possible, try to trick Ji Yunshu into coming to the hospital. It’d be best for the doctor to see her in person.]
The next message was Dr. Xu’s private contact, forwarded by Jiang Lehan.
[Liu Wuyi: Thanks. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime.]
No sooner had Liu Wuyi replied to Jiang Lehan and sent a friend request to the doctor than Jiang Lehan called.
“When I left this morning and saw no movement in your room, I figured you were still asleep, so I headed to the office first. I also took the liberty of finding you a doctor. Pretty efficient, huh?”
Liu Wuyi chuckled dryly. “Efficient, incredibly so. I sincerely thank you, this is a huge help. Next time, drinks and dinner are on me.”
“Cut the crap. Since when do you act so formal with me?”
A sigh crackled through the phone. “Next time, I’m not letting you drink so much. Your drunk self is a nightmare last night, you clung to me, crying and shouting ‘Ah Yun’ all night. You drown your sorrows, and I suffer the consequences!”
Just as Jiang Lehan finished, she seemed to remember something and abruptly changed tack. “Since you’re so grateful, how about giving the endorsement for your company’s upcoming ‘Eternal’ bridal collection to my Bamboo? Her team’s been in talks with your company for ages but still hasn’t sealed the deal. Why not use the backdoor if you’ve got one?”
“Deal,” Liu Wuyi agreed without hesitation.
“But won’t Shen Qingzhu object to you making decisions like this?”
Jiang Lehan clicked her tongue in frustration. “Of course, she would. I was just joking, why’d you agree so readily?”
“Just repaying the great favor owed to Miss Jiang for her tireless efforts.”
A faint interruption sounded on the other end, followed by Jiang Lehan instructing someone to delay a meeting by ten minutes before returning to the call. “Alright, enough chit-chat. I’m busy. By the way, I never got to ask Haida University’s hosting an alumni reunion soon. Are you going?”
“Depends. Might not have the time.”
Jiang Lehan saw right through her. “I don’t think it’s about having time, it’s about whether Ji Yunshu’s going. If she’s free to attend, you’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
“You knew and still asked? Never mind, I have to go back to the old house. Chairman Liu must be furious since I didn’t return the day before yesterday. She called me countless times last night, but I was drinking with you and didn’t pick up. If I don’t go back today, she’ll probably storm into my apartment.” With that, Liu Wuyi decisively hung up the phone.
Fortunately, Jiang Lehan was thoughtful enough to prepare a new outfit for her otherwise, she would never have worn the clothes left in the laundry basket.
The Liu family’s ancestral home was located in a hillside villa district, a renowned affluent area where most of the prominent figures in the capital resided.
During the entire ride back with driver Xiao Li, she was lost in thought, trying to figure out how to handle her mother’s interrogation. So much so that she didn’t even realize she had already stepped through the front door.
Sure enough, the first words out of her Alpha mother Liu Xiao’s mouth were accusatory: “Why didn’t you come back the day before yesterday? And you didn’t answer my calls yesterday. Your driver told me you were at a business dinner?”
Before Liu Wuyi could respond, Liu Xiao scoffed mockingly, “Hah, your subordinates are certainly loyal now. I couldn’t get anything out of them. Who knew you’d grow up and learn to say one thing while doing another?”
Her mother’s words grated on Liu Wuyi’s ears, shattering all the mental preparation she’d done before coming home. Her first retort was equally biting: “Isn’t that something I learned from you?”
After that, neither spoke another word. The dinner table was steeped in silence. Frustrated, Liu Wuyi didn’t even greet her grandmother before leaving.
As usual, they parted on bad terms.
There was a time when their relationship had been one of maternal warmth and filial devotion.
To be precise, if Liu Wuyi wanted the stars, Liu Xiao would pluck them from the sky; if she wanted the moon, Liu Xiao would fetch it for her. Liu Wuyi used to chatter endlessly about her mother, their bond harmonious and close. But in the end, it was Liu Xiao’s stubbornness and high-handedness that destroyed that harmony.
Back at the company, she signed off on a pile of documents, reviewed monthly reports from several departments, and went over the financial statements. Before she knew it, evening had arrived.
Only then did Liu Wuyi pick up her phone and notice a notification from ten minutes earlier: “#The Graffiti Monster you follow has started streaming!#”
It dawned on her that today was Ji Yunshu’s streaming day. She quickly opened the YinFu platform and entered the Graffiti Monster’s livestream.
As the familiar animated character gradually appeared on screen, it took her a moment to realize Ji Yunshu was doing a fan-creation of the Black Cat Sheriff from Black Cat Detective.
【NoNameChangeUntilSuccess: Just finished the college entrance exams haven’t watched the Graffiti Monster’s stream in ages! Wow, the streamer’s IP location changed!】
【GraffitiMonster’sBiggestFan: Where’s the usual top-tier fan sister today? She’s always so punctual.】
【IAmGraffitiMonster’sPuppy: Entered the stream.】
The next second, gift effects flooded the entire screen.
Livestream notifications popped up immediately.
【IAmGraffitiMonster’sPuppy】sent 【Carnival】
【IAmGraffitiMonster’sPuppy】sent 【Carnival】*2
【IAmGraffitiMonster’sPuppy】sent 【Carnival】*3
Liu Wuyi sent three gifts in a row, reclaiming her spot at the top of Ji Yunshu’s leaderboard.
[“I’ll carry the banner for Doodle Monster: Wow, the rich lady has made a dazzling entrance.”]
[“Online Street Roamer: Quick, play some BGM for our rich lady.”]
[“Doodle Monster: Thank you for the gift, top fan sis.”]
It wasn’t that Ji Yunshu was being impolite or deliberately avoiding the fan’s ID, it was just that the username was too embarrassing for her to type out.
Ji Yunshu first saw this ID sending her gifts four years ago. At the time, she had been streaming for nearly half a year. Initially, her unique art style and fanworks of popular IPs had brought her a lot of attention, with many fans tipping her. But because she never verbally thanked them, only typing on screen, fans felt she lacked sincerity. Over time, fewer and fewer sent her gifts.
Yet this ID had never interacted in her livestream chat, yet never missed a single stream, always sending extravagant gifts strange, yet distinctive.
But where Liu Wuyi didn’t want to talk to Ji Yunshu? She dreamed of it. She was just afraid that if she spoke too much, she might slip up and get exposed, and then be disliked.
Being able to silently accompany her without being driven away was more than enough for Liu Wuyi.
