Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 20
While waiting for the right moment to meet Ji Yunshu, time flew by until Sunday morning, when Liu Wuyi needed to go to the arts center to practice the piece she would perform the following week.
As the final notes faded, a solitary but sustained applause echoed through the empty piano room.
Seated on the piano bench, Liu Wuyi was so startled by the sudden sound that she nearly fell off.
Turning around, she saw Ji Yunshu’s face, lit with a gentle smile.
“You played beautifully!” Ji Yunshu’s eyes were full of admiration. “I loved playing the piano when I was little, but unfortunately, I didn’t stick with it.”
“Then, w-would you like to try now?” Having not seen Ji Yunshu for so long, Liu Wuyi stumbled over her words upon suddenly meeting her again.
So hopeless.
“But I don’t know how. The last time I played the piano was back in first grade.”
Hearing Ji Yunshu’s hesitation, Liu Wuyi quickly stood up, went behind her, and gently guided her by the shoulders to sit on the piano bench. She looked at Ji Yunshu’s profile and said, “I’ll teach you! No one is born knowing how to play the piano. Since you’ve learned before, it’ll be easy to pick up again.”
“Just tell me what piece you want to learn, and Teacher Liu guarantees she can teach you!” Liu Wuyi’s proud demeanor unconsciously affected Ji Yunshu as well.
Growing up, the adults around her had always praised her with words like “sensible” and “low-maintenance,” and she had never really expressed her desires to anyone. But at this moment, she wanted to share her thoughts with Liu Wuyi. “On the evening before National Day, I heard you playing ‘Always Online’ at Blue Sea Pavilion. I thought it was really beautiful. Can you teach me that piece, Teacher Liu?”
Hearing this, Liu Wuyi’s face gradually filled with astonishment. She tried to recall the events of that day but failed to retrieve the memory. She then smiled sheepishly and asked, “Were you there while I was playing the piano? How come I didn’t see you?” She hadn’t even noticed that Ji Yunshu had playfully called her “teacher.”
“I was working part-time at the restaurant that day and happened to be in charge of the drinks for your private room. After serving the drinks, I was supposed to leave the booth immediately, but while I was tidying up the used tools, I heard your piano playing. It captivated me, so I secretly stayed and listened to the entire piece.”
Liu Wuyi was even more shocked upon hearing this and made the connection. “So it was you in the booth! We really are fated!” As she spoke, she couldn’t help but sit side by side with Ji Yunshu on the piano bench.
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt that Ji Yunshu’s eyes suddenly brightened as she looked at her. Then, as if letting out a sigh of relief, Ji Yunshu’s gaze softened and grew even more appreciative.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?” Liu Wuyi touched her cheek, unable to contain her curiosity.
Ji Yunshu shook her head, her tone cheerful. “You’re different from all the other wealthy kids I’ve met. I thought you’d look down on me when you heard I’m so poor that I have to work part-time at Blue Sea Pavilion to get by. You’ve really surprised me.”
She clearly knew that Liu Wuyi had already learned about her work-study in this club some time ago, understanding that she had nothing to her name, yet she couldn’t resist testing her once more.
“How could you think that? Creating value with your own hands is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s actually incredibly admirable.” With those words from Liu Wuyi, she knew she hadn’t misjudged her, and that was enough.
That day, Ye Shiqi’s words had indeed affected her slightly, but from this moment on, she no longer cared.
In this life, if one hesitates at every turn, they will inevitably become timid and unable to accomplish anything.
Ji Yunshu had always believed that as long as she wholeheartedly fought for her future, the rope called “fate” would eventually descend before her, allowing her to climb upward, smiling as she changed her destiny, and applauding her self-reliance.
She still remembered a line she once read in a book.
Fate whispered to the warrior, “You cannot withstand the storm.” The warrior replied, “I am the storm.”
This had always been her motto.
Just then, Liu Wuyi seemed to recall something, her expression suddenly shifting. “By the way, has that person bothered you again since then? Did it affect your work afterward? Has your supervisor given you any trouble?” As she spoke, Liu Wuyi rolled up her sleeves, firing off a series of questions as if, should Ji Yunshu say yes, she would immediately charge to Blue Sea Pavilion, hunt down the troublemakers, and tear them to pieces.
Thus, Ji Yunshu quickly denied it, “No, nothing like that.”
Liu Wuyi felt relieved, fearing that Ji Yunshu might have been bullied where she couldn’t see.
The rich, warm notes of the piano sounded intermittently as Liu Wuyi guided Ji Yunshu’s fingers across the black and white keys. Their bodies pressed closely together, and Liu Wuyi could even hear Ji Yunshu’s heartbeat suddenly explode beside her ear powerful yet flustered, making Liu Wuyi feel it as if it were her own.
Their breaths intertwined before the piano, hot and heavy.
Finally, as the piece came to an end, both of them sprang away from the piano bench as if propelled, hastily leaving the practice room filled with an ambiguous atmosphere.
The weather today was colder than in previous days, and the wind was even more unruly.
Stepping quickly out of the arts center, they were abruptly assaulted by the cold wind, which cooled their burning, flushed skin and cleared their minds a little. Silently, they walked side by side toward Ji Yunshu’s dormitory.
The atmosphere along the way carried a hint of strangeness.
After just a few steps, Liu Wuyi licked her lips and suddenly broke the silence, “Actually, my dream is to sing on a bigger stage. Do you think I’m being unrealistic?”
“How could you think that?!” Hearing Liu Wuyi belittle herself, Ji Yunshu instinctively retorted, “No dream should be mocked. I’d rather call you a brave dream chaser.”
Liu Wuyi was stunned by her response; she had never expected such words from Ji Yunshu.
She had shared this dream with many friends and family before, only to receive her mother’s lack of understanding, her mom’s admonitions, and friends’ perfunctory compliments. Over the years, she had only received a little support and encouragement from Jiang Lehan.
Ji Yunshu truly was a very special Omega!
Unknowingly, the two found themselves strolling along the banks of Weilan River once more. Amidst the scenery, Ji Yunshu came to a halt, and a question that had been buried in her heart for days was on the verge of spilling out. “I have a question for you.” Liu Wuyi stopped as well.
“You can ask me directly!”
“Why didn’t you take my hand that day?”
“Huh? When?” The question caught Liu Wuyi off guard, and for a moment, she couldn’t recall which day Ji Yunshu was referring to.
Ji Yunshu remained silent, simply gazing at her with a look of persistence and guidance in her eyes.
Her expression conveyed the message, “You know.”
A flicker of memory flashed through Liu Wuyi’s mind, and her gaze suddenly fell upon the boats drifting on Weilan River. Instantly, she remembered, her tone drawing out, “Ah~ You mean the day we were on the boat, right?”
Ji Yunshu nodded but continued to watch her without speaking. If Liu Wuyi had looked closely, she would have noticed a hint of anticipation mixed in the other’s eyes.
“This is a huge misunderstanding. I’m taller and heavier than you, and the boat was unsteady. If I had taken your hand, I was afraid I might pull you down with me, so I didn’t dare to take it.” Liu Wuyi spoke rapidly, afraid Ji Yunshu would misunderstand, her hands and feet unconsciously gesturing as she explained.
“Was this part of the reason you didn’t agree to come out with me these past few days?” Liu Wuyi seized the opportunity to ask what she had been wondering.
Seeing Ji Yunshu shake her head and then nod, Liu Wuyi was puzzled. “Why two answers?”
“It was a small part of the reason,” Ji Yunshu quickly explained, as if afraid Liu Wuyi would misunderstand. “But it wasn’t the main factor. I really have been a bit busy these days, but as of this weekend, that busy period is over.”
“I wasn’t deliberately avoiding you,” Ji Yunshu added.
The doubts of the past few days were resolved in that moment.
Liu Wuyi’s mind went blank for a second, her hands and feet unsure where to rest. She casually picked up a stone from the ground and tossed it into Weilan River, sending ripples spreading across the water’s surface.
Just like her feelings, complex yet tinged with joy.
After walking Ji Yunshu to the entrance of her dormitory, Liu Wuyi noticed her stealing a glance, her eyes filled with hesitation, as if she had something to say but couldn’t bring herself to voice it.
Unexpectedly, Liu Wuyi caught her in the act.
“Is there something you want to tell me?” Finally seeing Ji Yunshu acting her age, Liu Wuyi couldn’t help but let a hint of laughter seep into her tone.
But Ji Yunshu hesitated for a few seconds before ultimately shaking her head.
“Then I have something to tell you. I’ll be performing at the Seaside Music Park next week. Since you said your busy period is over, could you come and cheer me on?”
Ji Yunshu agreed.
“Really not going to say it~”
Unmoved by her whining, Ji Yunshu firmly shook her head, turned, and ran back to her dorm without even saying goodbye.
Liu Wuyi’s Omega mother had called her that morning, asking her and Jiang Lehan to come home in the evening for some soup she had prepared. But Jiang Lehan had classes that night and couldn’t make it, so Liu Wuyi drove her beloved car back to her mother’s house alone.
As soon as she stepped through the door, Liu Wuyi couldn’t wait to shout in the direction of the kitchen, “Mom, Mom, I have something confirmed to tell you, I’ve fallen for an Omega girl.”
Liu Wuyi’s Omega mother, Yu Ningshuang, was an excellent listener, so Liu Wuyi always spoke her mind freely in front of her, never hiding her current circumstances.
Without hearing or seeing her mother’s reaction, Liu Wuyi casually grabbed an apple that Yu Ningshuang had already washed and placed on the dining table. Biting into it, she walked toward the kitchen.
Then, leaning against the kitchen doorframe, she pestered, “Mom, didn’t you hear what I said?” Upon hearing Yu Ningshuang’s affirmative reply, Liu Wuyi pressed further, “Aren’t you going to ask what kind of person she is?”
“The girl Ayu likes must be a wonderful girl. You’ve grown up, and it’s normal to have someone you like at your age. I shouldn’t restrict you too much,” Yu Ningshuang said as she turned off the stove, carried the chicken soup to the table, and finally had a moment to look at her daughter.
Noticing an expression on Liu Wuyi’s face that she had never seen before, Yu Ningshuang remarked with emotion, “It seems you really like her.”
“Mom, you can tell too. I’ve decided that she’s the one for me in this lifetime.”
“Then you must work hard to pursue her. Don’t let such a wonderful person slip away.”
“Mom, don’t worry. Once I’ve won her over, I’ll definitely bring her to meet you. She’s truly amazing, and I’m sure you’ll like her.”
