Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 19
Time was up.
The sky had darkened completely, and streetlights flickered on one after another.
The evening wind seemed to have gathered its strength, sweeping in fiercely and making the sheet-metal bicycle shed in front of the dormitory creak loudly.
The plummeting temperature, drenched clothes, icy skin, and the increasingly fierce autumn wind even a thick coat couldn’t withstand it. Liu Wuyi shivered violently from the eerie chill, breaking out in goosebumps all over.
At that moment, Ji Yunshu seemed to notice something and spoke softly, “The wind is picking up. Hurry back and take a hot shower so you don’t get sick. You can keep this coat.”
Perhaps sensing her reluctance to part with it, Ji Yunshu added, “See you later, Wuyi.”
“See you later!”
Hearing the cheerful reply, Ji Yunshu couldn’t help but smile. She waved at her before turning and walking into the dormitory.
Watching the Omega dormitory door close, Liu Wuyi immediately lost her composure. As if she could no longer feel the cold, she took off Ji Yunshu’s coat, hugged it tightly to her chest, and couldn’t resist throwing a few shadow punches at the air in front of the dormitory door.
Ahhh!!
She didn’t say “goodbye”, she said “see you later”! “See you later”!
Only ordinary people get “goodbye,” so that means I’m not ordinary. It must be true!
Liu Wuyi screamed and cheered inwardly.
The sound of the fingerprint lock on the door suddenly clicked, followed by a commotion in the entryway. Jiang Lehan remained curled up on the sofa, eyes glued to Shen Qingzhu’s hit drama on TV, not bothering to turn around.
Knowing it was Liu Wuyi returning, Jiang Lehan raised a hand and waved behind her without looking. “Why are you back so early today? Didn’t you spend more time with Ji Yunshu?”
When she received no response, Jiang Lehan finally turned her head curiously to look at her.
With just one glance, she was stunned. Her lips twitched, but she couldn’t form words for a long moment.
After all, Liu Wuyi’s disheveled appearance was baffling, strikingly reminiscent of the non-mainstream “shamate” era.
When it rained, they refused to use umbrellas, insisting on acting like tragic heroines of youth dramas, running through the downpour, letting the cold rain soak them, and after feeling the pain in their hearts, screaming: “I never expect anyone to understand my sorrow.”
Exactly the same.
No difference at all.
Once one memory surfaced, others flooded in like a tidal wave, flashing before her eyes. Remembering her own shamate past, Jiang Lehan buried her face in a cushion, wishing she could slap herself to death and stop the endless stream of cringe-inducing memories.
From the moment she entered until she rushed into the bathroom, Liu Wuyi didn’t pause for a second, her movements hurried and frantic. Yet, she carefully cradled a coat in her arms, a stark contrast to her haste.
As far as Jiang Lehan could recall, Liu Wuyi didn’t own a coat like that. Moreover, as an Alpha of no low rank herself, she keenly detected the scent of an Omega on that coat.
There was only one conclusion after careful deduction.
This was Ji Yunshu’s coat!
At this realization, Jiang Lehan couldn’t help but let out an “Oho!” as her gossip-loving heart ignited.
Before long, the bathroom door opened again. Seeing Liu Wuyi looking as usual, Jiang Lehan, a professional bystander always ready for drama immediately perked up. Her excitement was palpable, her eyes sparkling and the corners of her mouth lifting uncontrollably. She called out to Liu Wuyi and pointedly patted the spot beside her.
Before Liu Wuyi could even sit down, Jiang Lehan eagerly asked, “Come on, spill it! Weren’t you on a date with Ji Yunshu today? How did you end up like this? Did you fall into the Weilan River?”
Liu Wuyi: “…”
Seriously, could she be any more accurate?!
“Don’t tell me I actually guessed it.”
Liu Wuyi’s expression began to crack under Jiang Lehan’s eager and astonished gaze. Hesitantly, she nodded.
“Holy crap, impressive! You’ve really learned something here. Did playing the pity card work? Did Ji Yunshu think you were a poor little thing? You even managed to snag an Omega’s jacket.”
“But the cost of playing pitiful is pretty high, huh? You’re so scared of water, yet you dared to pull such a stunt. I salute you as a true warrior.” Jiang Lehan clicked her tongue in admiration and even gave Liu Wuyi a thumbs-up. “When will I ever meet a girlfriend worth pretending to be pitiful for?”
While Jiang Lehan was lost in her own imaginative thoughts, Liu Wuyi let out an awkward, forced laugh, looking uncomfortable as she mumbled softly, “No, no!”
Rarely seeing such an expression on Liu Wuyi’s face, Jiang Lehan immediately sensed something was off and pressed her for details. Under the relentless questioning, Liu Wuyi had no choice but to recount the entire story from her joyful date to ending up like a drowned rat.
Both Liu Wuyi and Jiang Lehan had chosen liberal arts for their college entrance exams, so their language skills were top-notch. With Liu Wuyi’s vivid and detailed description, Jiang Lehan felt as if she had been right there in the moment. Her eyes widened gradually, and she couldn’t help but clap her hands. “Amazing, truly amazing! Congratulations on becoming the second person in history to pull this off your name will go down in the annals!”
Jiang Lehan was absolutely right. Even before Liu Wuyi had made it home, a text post about the incident had already appeared on the campus forum. The comment section hadn’t been this lively in a long time, with everyone speculating about the identity of this legendary figure. Conservatively estimated, nearly half the school would see it.
Fortunately, no one had figured out it was Liu Wuyi yet.
On the verge of tears, Liu Wuyi asked, “What if I go to the campus forum admin now and try to bribe or threaten them into deleting the post? Do you think that would work?”
“Don’t worry. Just one second before you suggested that, I already did it for you. The admin agreed to take it down.”
Liu Wuyi: !!!
“Bestie! When the time comes that you need me to take a bullet for you, I won’t hesitate!” As she spoke, Liu Wuyi thumped her fist against her shoulder and pointed at Jiang Lehan with a solemn expression.
Liu Wuyi continued, “Even though I made a complete fool of myself today, when Yunshu and I parted earlier, she didn’t say ‘goodbye’ she said ‘see you later.’ Do you understand the weight of those words?”
“This proves that I, Liu Wuyi, am special in Yunshu’s heart! It has to be true!!!”
Jiang Lehan: “…”
Well then. She’s not even officially dating yet, and her lovesick brain is already starting to show.
Liu Wuyi waited impatiently for Jiang Lehan’s praise, but when it didn’t come, she grabbed Jiang Lehan’s shoulders and shook her vigorously while exclaiming, “Did you hear what I said? Why aren’t you reacting at all?!”
“I heard you, I heard you. You, Liu Wuyi, are very special in Ji Yunshu’s heart. You’ve already said that a hundred times here. Stop shaking me, or I’m going to throw up the dinner I just ate.”
“What do you think I should give Yunshu if I confess to her?” Satisfied at last, Liu Wuyi stopped tormenting Jiang Lehan and launched into her rambling.
“I think!”
“It has to be a couple’s ring! That way, everyone will know Yunshu is taken, especially that Bai Wanzhou we saw the other day!” Ignoring and interrupting Jiang Lehan, Liu Wuyi pounded her right fist into her open left hand and made the decision on her own.
Without hesitation, Liu Wuyi opened her phone, clicked into WeChat, and started messaging several jewelry brand salespeople as she walked toward her room, giving them a heads-up in advance.
Just then, a new friend request popped up from an unfamiliar account, with a note saying it was Ji Yunshu’s roommate.
Overjoyed, Liu Wuyi accepted immediately. In her mind, this gesture meant she had already gained the approval of Ji Yunshu’s inner circle. So, she began planning to invite Ji Yunshu’s roommate out for a casual meal sometime.
After all, infiltrating Ji Yunshu’s dorm would surely speed up her pursuit progress in no time.
Liu Wuyi politely sent a few greeting messages but received no reply. Meanwhile, several salespeople sent her pictures of rings, so she temporarily set the matter aside.
This date felt like a silent tsunami, completely altering the atmosphere between Liu Wuyi and Ji Yunshu.
The peak of the tsunami’s shockwave first reached their fervently beating hearts, binding them together with an invisible signal.
They were on the verge of resonating in harmony.
After the day of the Weilan River boat ride, she tried to arrange meetings with Ji Yunshu multiple times but was repeatedly turned down. Sometimes Ji Yunshu said she was busy catching up on project deadlines, other times that she had a computer exam to prepare for, or that her project team had been invited to a dinner by their professor.
The timing was always off.
But the campus wasn’t that big, and Liu Wuyi often wandered near the building where Ji Yunshu’s department was located. Occasionally, she would coincidentally run into Ji Yunshu having meals with Bai Wanzhou, laughing and chatting in a way that stirred intense jealousy.
Liu Wuyi wondered if she had done something inappropriate that made Ji Yunshu grow tired of her and no longer want to be friends.
Yet, just as she began to doubt herself, she would always receive concern from Ji Yunshu.
For example, Did you catch a cold after going back?
Did you take some banlangen to prevent it?
The weather has been cooling down lately, remember to wear more layers.
So, Liu Wuyi once again sought advice from Jiang Lehan, her seemingly unreliable strategist.
“Concern? That’s great!” After hearing Liu Wuyi describe the boat ride and Ji Yunshu’s recent rejections, Jiang Lehan didn’t look worried at all. Instead, she clapped her hands emphatically, affirming Ji Yunshu’s actions.
Afterward, Jiang Lehan switched to a more earnest tone and said to Liu Wuyi, “Ah Yu, have you ever considered this: as a music major, it’s normal for your coursework to be less demanding. But look at me even as a liberal arts student, I’m tormented by 8 a.m. classes every day, and lately, my face has turned sallow. From this, we can infer that someone like Ji Yunshu, who’s in computer science, must be swamped with work. For example, I have a senior in my social circle who’s also in computer science her schedule is packed with classes every day, and she has tons of lab assignments on top of that. Just like you mentioned, Ji Yunshu told you she’s working on projects under her advisor, so she probably has even less free time.”
“Does that make sense to you?” Jiang Lehan spoke until her mouth felt dry. She picked up a glass of water from the coffee table, drained it in one go, and then patted Liu Wuyi’s shoulder.
Liu Wuyi’s mood improved considerably after hearing this, and her confidence slowly began to revive.
“Last time, I realized that a gradual approach doesn’t suit you two. You should just go for it directly. Don’t you want to know what Ji Yunshu is thinking? If that’s the case, it’s better to ask her directly and clear up any doubts instead of overthinking things alone.”
Jiang Lehan chattered on incessantly, while Liu Wuyi, sitting beside her, seemed to absorb only part of it but had already made up her mind.
