Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 2
Liu Wuyi sat in the car preparing to head back to the company, about to lower her head to deal with some documents. Though her myopia wasn’t severe, she still wore glasses for convenience.
However, not long after the car left the welfare institute, Liu Wuyi was surprised to spot the slender figure of Ji Yunshu walking along the road ahead.
So much for the excuse about a friend picking her up and needing to leave early, it was clearly just a pretext.
But what or whom she was avoiding, Liu Wuyi understood all too well, her mind as clear as a mirror.
Seeing Ji Yunshu shun her like the plague, it would be a lie to say she wasn’t hurt. Yet she knew it was all the consequence of her own mistakes five years ago wrong actions, wrong words leading to this outcome. She deserved it.
“Ah Yun, let me give you a ride. It’s rush hour taxis will be hard to catch.” Liu Wuyi had always been quick to shake off negative emotions. She immediately pushed aside her earlier melancholy, instructed the driver to slow down, rolled down the window, and flashed Ji Yunshu a warm smile, her tone gentle.
Ji Yunshu seemed startled by the sudden voice behind her, but she recognized it instantly. Without even turning, she knew who it was. Her steps faltered, then stopped altogether.
Liu Wuyi thought this meant she had agreed to get in the car and quickly urged the driver to stop and unlock the doors.
However, Ji Yunshu made no move to enter. Instead, she pointed toward a bus stop not far ahead, then brought her hands together and moved them in parallel. Pausing, she tilted her head as if searching for the right words before continuing pointing at herself, bringing her hands together again, then extending her index finger forward before separating her hands to the sides. She mimed walking with her fists swinging back, palms facing downward, then pointed forward again with a bent index finger before moving her hands in parallel once more.
It was clearly a series of signs, but Liu Wuyi couldn’t understand them and was momentarily baffled. Ji Yunshu seemed to realize this too and immediately began rummaging through her bag for her phone.
Lin Lin, ever observant, spoke up at the right moment: “Miss Liu, Miss Ji seems to be saying there’s a bus stop ahead and she can take the bus home. Also, she’s not familiar with you and doesn’t want to ride in your car.”
Lin Lin, Liu Wuyi’s assistant, was a top graduate from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Liu Wuyi had personally recruited her shortly after taking over Shengshi Group, replacing her mother’s former assistant with swift decisiveness. Having worked together for nearly three years, Lin Lin was one of her most trusted aides. Yet Liu Wuyi was surprised to learn she even knew sign language.
Unfortunately, Lin Lin’s translation only delivered words Liu Wuyi didn’t want to hear, prompting her to grit her teeth: “I had no idea you were fluent in sign language!”
“Miss Liu, more skills never hurt. Now that you know, will you give me a raise?” Lin Lin’s eyes sparkled with hope.
“Not only will I not give you a raise, but your extra bonus this month is also canceled.”
Well, that backfired. Lin Lin wanted to cry, screaming internally.
No matter how much Liu Wuyi cajoled, even wearing her words thin, Ji Yunshu refused to get in the car. Left with no choice, Liu Wuyi seized the moment when Ji Yunshu was off guard, abruptly opened the door, and swiftly pulled her inside.
Ji Yunshu instinctively struggled, trying to break free from Liu Wuyi’s grip, but her strength was no match. In the end, she could only let herself be dragged in.
Even so, she stubbornly refused to tell the driver her address, as if silently protesting: “If I don’t tell you where I live, you can’t take me anywhere. You’d better let me out of the car right now.”
However, this tactic was utterly useless against someone as shameless as Liu Wuyi: “If you don’t give me your address, I’ll just take you to my place. An unmated Alpha and Omega alone together, if anything happens, don’t blame me.”
Ji Yunshu’s eyes widened in shock upon hearing this.
Clearly, she hadn’t expected Liu Wuyi to be so brazen. Left with no choice, she typed her address into her phone and handed it to the assistant in the passenger seat to set the navigation, all while glaring at Liu Wuyi to convey her hostility and displeasure.
If Ji Yunshu could speak right now, she’d probably curse Liu Wuyi to the high heavens. Liu Wuyi could even guess exactly what she’d say after all, she’d pulled plenty of shameless stunts in the past and had been on the receiving end of Ji Yunshu’s scolding more than once.
Thinking about it now, Liu Wuyi actually felt a little nostalgic.
Unexpectedly, Ji Yunshu’s place wasn’t too far from the orphanage. Even with the evening rush hour traffic, the drive took less than an hour before they arrived at her apartment building.
It was a relatively safe residential area, always bustling no matter the time. The only downside was that the roads between buildings were too narrow, allowing only one car to pass at a time. The car had barely stopped in front of the building when the honking started from behind, incessantly urging them to move.
God knew how much Liu Wuyi had wanted the driver to go slower much slower so she could stay in this space with Ji Yunshu just a little longer. So, Liu Wuyi ignored the commotion behind her and ventured another question: “Can I come up for a glass of water?”
Her expression was pitiful now, like a stray cat wandering the streets. If her sharp-tongued friend Jiang Lehan had seen it, she’d have exclaimed, “This woman’s acting skills are nothing to scoff at, she deserves an Oscar!”
But Ji Yunshu wasn’t buying it. She shook her head firmly in refusal.
“Is someone at your place? Can’t we even be friends after breaking up? Invite me up as a friend,” Liu Wuyi said, feigning nonchalance.
“Even though no one’s home, it still wouldn’t be appropriate to invite you up. I don’t want to be friends with you either.”
Though Ji Yunshu typed these words calmly, she had clearly brought up their breakup five years ago again. It seemed Liu Wuyi had touched a nerve otherwise, when had Ji Yunshu ever been so cutting? Liu Wuyi thought gloomily to herself.
“Fine, forget it. Go on up.”
It’s okay. I can take it slow. Just seeing you again is enough. Liu Wuyi consoled herself.
A light tap on the car window drew both their attention. The person outside looked furious, though they’d probably tempered their knocking out of respect for the expensive car.
The unfamiliar woman who came knocking on the window was somewhat intimidated by the unfriendly gaze from one of the passengers in the back seat. She had initially intended to confront them but instead opted for persuasion: “I’m from the car behind you. I noticed your car has been blocking the way for quite some time without moving an inch, and no one got out. I thought there was no one inside. Since there are people in the car, please hurry up either get out or drive away. You’re holding up all the traffic behind you.”
After the stranger left, Ji Yunshu immediately opened the door and stepped out of the car, her movements smooth and decisive, without a hint of hesitation.
Liu Wuyi didn’t stop her, nor did she have the right to. She simply watched as Ji Yunshu walked into the apartment building, disappearing from her sight.
Seeing the lights turn on in Ji Yunshu’s apartment, Liu Wuyi should have left. Today was the day she was supposed to return to the family estate, and she had plenty of tasks to attend to. If Director Wang hadn’t unexpectedly invited her to spend the afternoon at the orphanage, she would have been at the company handling various matters before heading back to the estate.
Yet, for some reason, when Liu Wuyi saw the warm yellow glow of the lights, she couldn’t bring herself to leave.
“Miss Liu, shouldn’t we be going? It’s almost time to return to the estate,” Lin Lin reminded Liu Wuyi, who was lost in thought as usual.
“I’m in a good mood today. You can all leave early.”
Liu Wuyi turned to the driver, Xiao Li: “Take Assistant Lin home, then drive the car back to my apartment. Don’t worry about me. If my mother asks, just say I’m working overtime or at a business dinner make up whatever excuse you want. You’ve been with me long enough to know what to say and what not to say.”
Xiao Li nodded and drove off.
Liu Wuyi stood under the streetlight for a long time, so long that her legs began to ache. Just then, Ji Yunshu who should have been at home reappeared in her line of sight, clutching something tightly and looking visibly unwell.
Having once been the closest person to Ji Yunshu, Liu Wuyi was naturally more sensitive to her pheromones than anyone else. A rich, intoxicating osmanthus fragrance washed over her, pulling her toward Ji Yunshu as if by an irresistible force.
She was in heat!
But when Liu Wuyi noticed what Ji Yunshu was wearing, her amusement vanished.
How could she go downstairs dressed like this during her heat?
Ji Yunshu’s hair was damp, her body exuding a sweet, steamy scent. She was no longer wearing the clothes from their earlier encounter but had changed into a white nightgown. Even with a coat draped over her shoulders, the sight was undeniably alluring to Liu Wuyi.
Ji Yunshu’s steps were unsteady, and nearby Alphas were already casting glances in her direction, their interest piqued.
“Ah Yun!” Liu Wuyi quickened her pace, shrugging off her suit jacket as she approached. Seeing Ji Yunshu’s flushed face, she swiftly draped the jacket over her shoulders and guided her back toward the apartment building, supporting her by the arm.
Wrapped in the familiar scent, Ji Yunshu felt like someone trapped in a raging fire suddenly encountering a massive glacier, cool relief washing over her.
Instinctively, she buried her face in Liu Wuyi’s jacket, rubbing against it until she felt slightly better. Her vision cleared, and she mustered the strength to look up at Liu Wuyi, her puzzled gaze seeming to ask, Why are you still here?
“I’ll just help you upstairs and then leave, I won’t do anything. If you’re worried, I can go buy a muzzle right now. Look at how unsteady you are, what if you fall? What if someone notices you’re in heat? This building isn’t just yours look around, are there any Alphas watching you? Nothing is more important than an Omega’s safety during their heat, right?” Liu Wuyi pleaded earnestly.
Sensing Ji Yunshu’s attempt to break free, Liu Wuyi grew anxious and tightened her grip on Ji Yunshu’s wrist, pulling her into an embrace to immobilize her.
With all the words already spoken, Ji Yunshu knew there was some truth to them and couldn’t refuse her kindness. Reluctantly, she nodded in agreement.
True to her word, Liu Wuyi carefully supported Ji Yunshu upstairs without further conversation. Yet, upon reaching the doorstep, their eyes inadvertently met again.
This shouldn’t be happening. Those eyes shouldn’t be filled with affection. She was the one who had ended things five years ago, why was she clinging to me now? Why did every little thing she do feel so misleading? Ji Yunshu wrestled with her thoughts before forcing herself to look away. If she didn’t look, she wouldn’t soften again.
She couldn’t fall back into this. The price she paid five years ago was already too high. If she had to go through it again, she feared she might break completely.
