- Did That A Get His Wife Back Today?
- Chapter 16 - Extremely High Pheromone Compatibility
Haicheng swiftly stepped into autumn. The gentle yet desolate autumn breeze quietly pushed open the topmost window of the studio, bringing in waves of cool air.
Ji Yunshu’s tone carried the soft, melodic Wu dialect unique to southern coastal cities. Like the autumn wind, it carefully slipped into Liu Wuyi’s clothes, gently caressing her heart, stirring her emotions and making her feel an irresistible itch.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you.” Liu Wuyi uttered these words involuntarily, her affectionate gaze fixed intently on Ji Yunshu’s face, not concealing her fondness in the slightest.
Even a gentle and naive puppy can become assertive when it encounters love.
Gradually, Liu Wuyi withdrew her gaze from Ji Yunshu’s face and eagerly reached for the guzheng beside her. “Let me carry it.”
“No need.”
Hearing Ji Yunshu’s refusal, Liu Wuyi felt as if the sky had fallen. “Do you think I can’t carry it? That’s absolutely not the case! I’m very strong, much stronger than Jing Yao.” As she spoke, Liu Wuyi tried to roll up her sleeve to show Ji Yunshu the well-developed muscles on her arm, a result of years of working out, hoping to prove her point.
Through this gesture, she was also subtly showcasing her carefully curated charm to Ji Yunshu in every possible way.
At that moment, the brilliant sunlight streamed through the topmost window, flooding the studio and illuminating Liu Wuyi’s face.
In that brief instant, Ji Yunshu’s breath caught for a few seconds, startled by the sight before her. She had never looked at Liu Wuyi’s face so intently before. Her glass-like eyes, under the sunlight, appeared exceptionally clear, reminiscent of the marbles she played with as a child. Her well-defined brow bones, naturally upturned lips, and lustrous platinum-blonde hair further accentuated her vibrant vitality.
She looked exactly like the Maltese dogs she often saw on her phone.
Her personality was quite similar too.
Ji Yunshu thought to herself.
“I’m not doubting your strength. Carrying the guzheng is my responsibility, and I get paid for it every month. If you do the work, wouldn’t I be out of a job?”
After some thought, Liu Wuyi found her reasoning quite sound and said, “Then let me help you.”
As an Alpha, how could she stand by and watch an Omega carry things without lifting a finger? That would make her no different from that detestable Jing Yao, completely lacking the dignity of an Alpha something she absolutely could not tolerate.
“Alright, alright, alright.” Ji Yunshu couldn’t argue and reluctantly agreed, her tone sounding rather like a mother coaxing a sulking child.
Together, the two of them carried the guzheng back to the music club’s room, their interaction exuding an air of intimacy along the way.
After placing the guzheng in a corner, the teacher Liu Wuyi had seen sitting at the piano that morning called out to her.
“Wuyi, you can come back to practice on Sunday. The piano hasn’t been tuned yet, and the situation is a bit complicated. I need to hire an external professional tuner, which might take some time.”
“Teacher, I don’t think I introduced myself to you earlier. How did you recognize me?” Liu Wuyi was somewhat surprised. In her memory, she had never met this teacher before.
“While interviewing several piano-playing students, Lehan directly handed me your file it had your ID photo inside. Wasn’t this your intention?”
“Oh, right.” So that’s how it was.
The teacher handed over a thin music score and asked, “First, see if you can play this piece.”
Liu Wuyi casually flipped through the score.
It was “Farewell Letter”!
Coincidentally, she had played this piece several times recently on a whim and was quite familiar with it.
“I’ve practiced this privately many times and am quite familiar with it. I can play it.”
“That’s good, I was worried we might not have enough time. The organizers of next Sunday’s lawn music festival at Seaside Music Park want to use this piece for the finale. I secured this opportunity for our club. Perform well, and you can earn academic credits.”
After saying this, the teacher went to inventory and check the instruments that had been brought back. After all, if any instruments were lost or damaged under her supervision in the club, she would be held responsible for compensation.
These instruments were all exceptional, expensive items, so extra care was necessary.
The two walked side by side out of the Arts and Sports Center, staying very close. Liu Wuyi caught the faint scent of osmanthus blossoms again, the same fragrance she had noticed before.
Why was it osmanthus again?!
A bold conjecture flashed through Liu Wuyi’s mind. She froze instantly, then subtly turned to glance at Ji Yunshu beside her. For the first time, she rudely let her gaze sweep over the hidden area beneath the Omega’s tightly sealed gland-blocking patch. Her footsteps halted, and a look of delight gradually spread across her face.
She knew! She understood everything now!
The doubts that had lingered were suddenly resolved in that moment.
The fragrance she had been smelling was the scent of her beloved’s pheromones.
If an Omega, outside of their heat cycle and with a pheromone-blocking patch applied, could still have their scent detected by an Alpha, it meant their pheromone compatibility was exceptionally high.
Didn’t that indicate they were a perfect match?
This thought now completely occupied Liu Wuyi’s mind, surging through her like the thrill of a general winning a victorious battle.
“Wuyi, do you have something else to attend to at the Arts and Sports Center? If so, feel free to go handle it.”
Hearing Ji Yunshu’s gentle voice, Liu Wuyi snapped back to reality. She patted her head firmly, trying to clear her thoughts. “Yunshu, do you have anything to do right now?” It was just mealtime, and she wanted to invite Ji Yunshu for lunch.
Ji Yunshu smiled. “Actually, I do, so I’ll have to say goodbye for now!”
“Alright, see you tomorrow then!” Though she had hoped to spend more time with Ji Yunshu, for now, she had to bid farewell.
Liu Wuyi packed up some Shanghainese dishes she had enjoyed last time and headed home. As she entered the hallway, she saw Jiang Lehan sprawled on the couch like a starved corpse, clearly drained after a morning of classes.
“You’re finally back! I’m starving! What delicious food did you bring?” Jiang Lehan caught the aroma of the food and instantly revived, springing up from the couch with a bounce and following her to the dining table.
“Eight-treasure duck, crystal shrimp, scallion-braised pork chops, and a stir-fried vegetable dish.” Liu Wuyi opened the plastic bag covering the takeout containers, listing off the dishes she had brought back.
“Still eating Eight-Treasure Duck?!” Jiang Lehan gasped sharply. “Ever since we tried that Shanghainese restaurant the other day, you’ve been having Eight-Treasure Duck every single day. Don’t you ever get tired of it?” Just the smell of the duck was enough to make her feel queasy.
“Suit yourself. More for me if you don’t want it.”
“Then you have this dish. I really can’t eat it.” As she spoke, she pushed the duck closer to Liu Wuyi.
After a while, when they had almost finished their meal, Jiang Lehan remembered what happened that morning. Crossing her arms, she grinned and said, “So, was my info reliable or what?”
At this, Liu Wuyi deliberately rolled her eyes. “I was just about to ask you didn’t you say the person who asked me to play the piano was your friend? How did it turn out to be a teacher? And this gig is such a hassle, it’s an off-campus performance.”
Jiang Lehan shrugged and spread her hands. “I never said it wasn’t a teacher. Teachers are easier to persuade anyway, especially a music major teacher. I just used a little connection to invite her out, treated her to a simple meal, gave her a small gift, and she agreed to help me. Besides, performing is your forte, isn’t it? Isn’t the chance to be in the same club as Ji Yunshu enough to make it worth your effort?”
“That’s the only upside,” Liu Wuyi sighed. If not for that, she really wouldn’t want to waste time on such a useless and troublesome matter.
“Then it’s settled! Tell me, am I reliable or not?”
Liu Wuyi was amused by her expression and gave her a hearty pat on the shoulder. “Reliable, extremely reliable. I’ll take care of getting you into my family’s company by the end of the year.”
“You said it.”
Liu Wuyi replied, “I said it,” and stood up to pack the takeout containers. But Jiang Lehan was too quick before Liu Wuyi could even touch the boxes, she deftly intercepted and started packing them herself.
Once everything was cleaned up, Jiang Lehan asked again, “So, how’s it going with you two?”
She could never shake off her nosy nature and was genuinely curious about Liu Wuyi’s progress in pursuing someone. After all, she was the one who provided the tip, created the opportunity, and even coached Liu Wuyi on how to make a move she was practically the mastermind behind it all! She wanted to know how effective her “armchair strategies” had been.
“All that talk just to ask me this, huh?” Liu Wuyi rolled her eyes again, though she couldn’t hide a hint of smug delight. “We’ve arranged to go boating on Weilan River tomorrow evening.”
Jiang Lehan gasped dramatically. “If you’ve managed to get a boat ride on Weilan River, then things are looking good! It seems the ‘take it slow’ approach doesn’t work for you two. Who knew you had such skills, skipping right past the ambiguous phase! You really can’t judge a book by its cover!”
“So, is your next step going to be confessing?” Jiang Lehan teased, pressing her thumbs together and wiggling her index fingers while giving Liu Wuyi a playful look.
Hearing Jiang Lehan’s exaggerated tone, Liu Wuyi shuddered and couldn’t take it anymore. “No, what are you thinking? Am I that reckless? I’m still following the ‘take it slow’ approach step by step.”
Jiang Lehan: “…”
Alright, I get it now. This clueless girl has no idea what a boat ride on Weilan River really means.
Looks like either Ji Yunshu is just as clueless, or she doesn’t mind either way. What a perfect match these two are!
It seems that following the conventional rules of dating doesn’t apply to everyone flexibility is key! Jiang Lehan had once again grasped the essence of the matter.
At this moment, compared to Jiang Lehan’s leisurely idleness, Liu Wuyi was growing restless.
The thought of going boating with Ji Yunshu the next day made her nervous, and when she was nervous, she felt the urge to keep herself busy. The first major task she undertook was to rummage through her wardrobe and pick out the clothes and shoes she would wear the following day.
However, when she saw the nearly empty wardrobe, she felt momentarily lost. She thought to herself, If only I hadn’t refused when Jiang Lehan tried to drag me out shopping the other day.
Closing the wardrobe, Liu Wuyi immediately stepped out of her room and called out to Jiang Lehan, “Since you have nothing to do right now, come shopping with me.”
“You’re so carefree. I assume you don’t have any homework?”
“I do, but homework is no big deal. What’s the worst that could happen if I don’t turn it in? Would the school expel me?” Jiang Lehan pointed at herself with an air of utter disdain. “Accompanying a friend is the top priority, and you’ve come to the right person for that. No one understands this better than I do.”
The two of them went on a shopping spree at the mall, with Jiang Lehan mostly picking out items while Liu Wuyi tried them on and handled the payments. The results were impressive each of them ended up carrying over ten shopping bags.
By the time they returned home, Jiang Lehan was completely exhausted. She kicked off her high heels and collapsed onto the sofa with a thud, unable to move.
This was the first time she had ever been defeated by the intensity of a shopping trip. She couldn’t help but exclaim, “Girl, you’ve changed! Love truly is the best nourishment. It’s turned Liu Wuyi, who once scoffed at the idea of being a refined young lady, into a powerhouse shopper at the mall. I bow to your prowess!”
Liu Wuyi smiled. After all, times had changed she was now a woman with aspirations.
