- Did That A Get His Wife Back Today?
- Chapter 15 - Keep Your Disgusting Pheromones to Yourself
Liu Wuyi had something weighing on her mind, drifting in and out of sleep all night. She barely made it through until the next day, a day with no classes. It was practically a perfect alignment of timing, location, and opportunity!
Jiang Lehan yawned as she emerged from her room, leaning against the doorframe and watching Liu Wuyi bustling around near the bathroom. “Miss Liu,” she asked, “it’s only seven o’clock. What are you fussing about?”
“Lucky for you, you have someone as easygoing as me for a roommate. Anyone else would have murdered you and left your body in the wilderness by now.”
“Good thing I have an eight a.m. class today and need to get up early too.”
After the National Day holiday, the temperature in Haicheng gradually dropped. Liu Wuyi abandoned the shirts Jiang Lehan often criticized and opted for a gray YSL sweater paired with black wide-leg trousers from the same brand simple yet stylish.
Jiang Lehan observed her back and forth for a while, as if discovering something new, and teased, “Oh? Wearing new clothes today? Never seen these before. Having a love-struck brain really changes a person, huh?”
To be fair, Jiang Lehan was exaggerating. Liu Wuyi was, after all, a music student who had frequently performed on stage before her art exams. She was quite skilled at dressing up, though she usually didn’t pay much attention to it. Today’s sudden change in style was indeed a bit unusual.
Jiang Lehan propped a hand under her chin, stroking it thoughtfully. “I feel like something’s still missing with your outfit.”
Liu Wuyi was too busy applying makeup to pay attention to her ramblings.
Jiang Lehan rested her head against the doorframe, lost in thought for a long moment before suddenly clapping her hands excitedly. “Accessories! Do you have any silver jewelry? I remember you only ever bought jewelry for concert performances, not everyday silver pieces. Want to borrow one of mine?”
At this, Liu Wuyi paused what she was doing, replied with a curt “No need,” and retreated into her room.
Just then, an autumn breeze slipped through the fine gaps in the window screen, drifting into the living room and leaving Jiang Lehan standing alone in bewilderment.
Jiang Lehan: “…”
Are the moods of Alphas in love always this unpredictable?
“Which of these looks better?” Liu Wuyi had been in her room for quite some time. When she reappeared, she was holding several necklaces in her hand.
Jiang Lehan: “…” So I overthought it, she just went back to look for necklaces.
And why does it feel like she’s not holding luxury items one by one, but rather a bunch of cabbages?
Jiang Lehan felt a pang of jealousy. “You went shopping behind my back? Must be nice not having your parents restrict your allowance!” As she spoke, she pointed to the thick Versace chain in Liu Wuyi’s hand, muttering, “That one.”
Liu Wuyi obligingly put on the necklace Jiang Lehan had recommended. Indeed, it added a noticeable layer of visual depth and matched perfectly. Jiang Lehan’s taste in this area was truly top-tier, and Liu Wuyi couldn’t help but admire it.
“Admit it, aren’t I amazing? My sense of style is wasted not being a celebrity stylist.”
Liu Wuyi didn’t flatter her. Instead, she deliberately flashed a mischievous smile, glanced at her watch, and said, “It’s 7:30 now. If you don’t start washing up and eating soon, you’re going to be late for your eight a.m. class!”
“Ah! Who on earth invented 8 AM classes?! I swear eternal enmity with them!” Jiang Lehan screamed as she rushed into the bathroom. After a quick wash, she clattered noisily into the kitchen, ready to take on the world.
“I’m making tomato and egg noodles. Want some?” Jiang Lehan suddenly popped her head out to ask.
“Ayu?”
No response.
Most apartments near the university district were fully furnished units rented by students and teachers. Developers, adhering to practical and functional principles, hadn’t designed open kitchens. The range hood in the kitchen was quite loud, and with the kitchen door closed, the soundproofing was excellent. Consequently, Liu Wuyi hadn’t heard Jiang Lehan’s call from outside.
“Your outfit today is really flashy, huh!” Jiang Lehan shouted in the kitchen for a while without getting any response. She came out holding a spatcher, saw Liu Wuyi had paired her outfit with pointed leather shoes, and deliberately struck a pose by the kitchen door, saying in a teasing tone.
“Get lost!”
What a heartless woman.
“I just asked if you wanted tomato and egg noodles and you didn’t answer. When I said you look flashy, you tell me to get lost. Are you selectively deaf or something? A woman’s heart is as deep as the ocean.”
“Stop, stop, stop! Ancestor, I’ll eat, just stop shouting. I really didn’t hear you earlier.” Seeing Jiang Lehan about to launch into another one of her impromptu dramatic performances, Liu Wuyi hurriedly stopped her.
“Music students need to protect their hearing. If you’re already having hearing problems at such a young age, how are you going to achieve your dream of becoming a singer?”
“Here we go again. Get lost already!”
As she was applying the final touches to her makeup, a familiar aroma wafted over. Turning to look at the dining table, she saw the familiar Chef Jiang’s special tomato and egg noodles.
“Anything made by Chef Jiang is guaranteed quality. Vitamins, protein, carbs – perfectly balanced nutrition, everything you could want.”
Ever since Jiang Lehan took that physiology class, her sense of responsibility as an Alpha had skyrocketed to unprecedented levels. Not only had she memorized all 300 articles of the widely circulated but unsubstantiated Alpha Codex, she also considered housework and cooking as the third most important quality for an Alpha seeking a partner, especially culinary skills.
As the saying goes, “The way to a person’s heart is through their stomach.” Jiang Lehan firmly believed this and practiced constantly, with Liu Wuyi serving as her guinea pig and witness to her improving culinary skills.
Jiang Lehan wolfed down her bowl of noodles, rinsed her mouth, and hurriedly slung her backpack over her shoulder. Before heading out, she didn’t forget to remind, “Although I know you’re dying to see your beloved Yunshu sister – it’s written all over your face – you still need to put these bowls in the dishwasher. If I have to do it when I come back at noon, the grease will have hardened and the dishwasher won’t be able to clean it properly.”
“Got it, why aren’t you gone yet?”
After Liu Wuyi finished breakfast and loaded all the morning’s dishes into the dishwasher, she headed out.
Room 301, Building B of the Arts and Sports Center.
Peering through the glass window of the room, Liu Wuyi scanned the spacious interior. She only saw a few classmates tuning their pipas and someone who looked like a teacher adjusting a piano. She looked left and right but couldn’t spot the person she’d been longing to see, feeling somewhat puzzled.
Since when did Jiang Lehan’s insider information become unreliable?
“Hey, classmate, are you from the music club? I thought all the logistics department members were supposed to be here today. Why are there so few people?” Liu Wuyi walked into the room and asked an unfamiliar Beta student.
Liu Wuyi had striking features and had dyed her hair a bold platinum blonde, which made her appearance even more impactful. The Beta student blushed deeply, not daring to look at her directly. “The remaining members of the logistics department are all in the performance halls of Building A, moving the remaining large instruments.”
“Alright, thanks.”
The Arts and Sports Center consisted of five interconnected buildings, forming a complex maze. Liu Wuyi hadn’t familiarized herself with the area beforehand and wasn’t very familiar with the layout. Relying on the guide map displayed on the ground floor, she navigated through several large classrooms before finally locating the performance halls.
Through a gap in the red curtain, Liu Wuyi caught a glimpse of Ji Yunshu’s flawless profile in the distance.
At that moment, Ji Yunshu was struggling to move a guzheng.
Liu Wuyi watched as sweat continuously beaded on her forehead, trickled down her cheek, swiftly traced the slender curve of her neck, and finally soaked into her collar, leaving a damp patch.
And the person standing beside Ji Yunshu, chattering away with arms crossed.
It was Jing Yao!
Damn, is she just going to stand there and watch Yunshu struggle with such a heavy and bulky object? Doesn’t she have any awareness as an Alpha? No sense of chivalry at all? Then what is she even doing next to Yunshu?
Wait, what is she trying to do?
Liu Wuyi immediately jumped to the conclusion that Jing Yao was harassing Ji Yunshu.
Furious, Liu Wuyi pushed aside the curtain and made a grand entrance under the astonished gazes of both. “Did no one in your family teach you how to spell ‘boundaries’?” Her words were harsh, and for someone like Jing Yao, who came from a prestigious family, it was almost equivalent to calling her “ill-bred.”
They both seemed still stunned. At that moment, Liu Wuyi caught a faint whiff of tobacco scent.
It stank! Just like its owner.
“Rein in your disgusting pheromones. The only reason I’m not exerting pheromone pressure on you is because there’s an Omega present. Don’t think no one can put you in your place.”
The sudden exclamation seemed to startle Ji Yunshu, causing the guzheng in her hands to slip.
“Careful!” Fortunately, Liu Wuyi rushed forward in time to catch it, preventing the expensive instrument from crashing to the ground.
Jing Yao snapped back to reality at Liu Wuyi’s cry, then lightly touched her own gland with a strange expression.
“My family only taught me that if there’s something I like, I should obtain it by any means necessary.” Jing Yao took small steps toward them, her voice almost a mutter, as if she were in a trance.
What kind of family teaches something like that?!
Liu Wuyi stepped in front of Ji Yunshu and shouted angrily, “Don’t come any closer! I recorded all your sneaky actions just now. If you don’t curb your filthy intentions, I’ll submit these photos to the Omega Protection Association and send you to jail.”
“Liu Wuyi, have you forgotten.” Jing Yao’s tone carried a hint of helplessness and something ethereal, inexplicably giving her a ghostly aura.
“Forgotten what?”
Jing Yao didn’t speak, merely gazing at her levelly. The arrogance from their first encounter had vanished from her eyes, replaced by an inscrutable depth that was hard to decipher.
Then, after giving Liu Wuyi a long, meaningful look, she turned and walked away.
“Hey, at least finish what you were saying! How can someone be so strange?”
“Senior Yunshu, you need to be bolder. Learn to firmly say ‘no’ to those pesky Alphas who always try to cross boundaries. If anyone bothers you again, you can call me to handle it.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not one of those nasty Alphas. I know where to draw the line, so you don’t need to be afraid of me.”
Ji Yunshu: “…”
“I think you’ve misunderstood. She wasn’t trying to do anything to me just now.” She felt she ought to explain for someone who’d been unjustly criticized.
“No need to explain. I was behind that curtain earlier and saw everything. I’ve confronted Jing Yao before, she’s no good person. You should keep your distance from her.”
Remembering what Jing Yao had said to her earlier, Ji Yunshu found herself agreeing with Liu Wuyi’s assessment. She nodded and abandoned her attempt to explain, thinking to herself: Jing Yao really isn’t normal!
Earlier, when the classmates moving instruments sensed the tense atmosphere in the studio, they had all quietly filed out. With Jing Yao gone, the studio fell into complete silence.
Liu Wuyi originally wanted to give Ji Yunshu more advice, but for some reason, she felt a subtle stir in her heart. The words reached her lips but wouldn’t come out. “Senior Yunshu, would you like to go boating on Weilan River with me this weekend?” she ended up saying instead.
Hearing this, Ji Yunshu abruptly looked up at Liu Wuyi, somewhat incredulous. But in Liu Wuyi’s amber-colored eyes, she could see her own faint reflection.
This was the first time she felt that amber eyes didn’t seem so distant or unapproachable.
“Are you really hoping I’ll go with you?” In that moment, Ji Yunshu’s heart began racing wildly. Though her question was tentative, she desperately awaited the response.
“Of course.”
Getting Liu Wuyi’s immediate answer, Ji Yunshu smiled. Without further hesitation, she raised her phone and waved it slightly. “Then send me the time later. I’ll be there punctually.”
