Did That A Get His Wife Back Today? - Chapter 13
Since the orientation party ended, Liu Wuyi had been glued to her phone checking it during class, while eating, and even while walking. The moment she felt her phone vibrate, she would immediately open it, sometimes staring at the screen with a silly grin and occasionally tapping away at it.
It was almost like a peacock flaunting its feathers.
Just like now, they were sitting in a famous local cuisine restaurant, waiting for their dishes to be served. Jiang Lehan, seated across from Liu Wuyi, had called her name several times without getting any response, as if she hadn’t heard a thing.
“Ayu…”
“Ayu?”
“Liu Wuyi!!!” Jiang Lehan slammed her hand on the table, only to realize that several nearby diners were now staring at them with displeased expressions.
Well, that did it. Not only had Liu Wuyi heard her, but the entire restaurant had too.
Jiang Lehan’s face flushed bright red, and she quickly clasped her hands together in apology.
They had decided on a whim after class to eat at this restaurant near the campus.
They each only had one lecture that morning Jiang Lehan’s at 8 a.m. and Liu Wuyi’s at 10 a.m. After finishing her class early, Jiang Lehan bought breakfast at a convenience store and happened to run into a Beta senior she had met a few days earlier. During their casual chat, the senior highly recommended this restaurant, claiming it served the most authentic local cuisine in all of Haicheng.
Seeing the photos the senior had taken dishes like braised pork, eight-treasure duck, and crab roe lion’s head, all looking incredibly appetizing Jiang Lehan was instantly intrigued. She waited for Liu Wuyi’s class to end so they could go together.
The restaurant was indeed very popular. By the time they arrived, all the private rooms had been reserved in advance, so they had to settle for a table in the main dining area.
After the earlier embarrassing scene, neither of them dared to speak too loudly. But Liu Wuyi still hadn’t figured out what had prompted Jiang Lehan’s explosive outburst. She hesitated, wanting to ask but holding back, until she finally spoke up: “What was that about earlier?”
“I called your name several times. Who were you chatting with?” As she spoke, her voice gradually softened, and she instinctively glanced around.
“No one!” Liu Wuyi instinctively denied it.
“Your face is so red, and you have that lovesick look. Were you chatting with Senior Ji Yunshu?” Though phrased as a question, Jiang Lehan’s tone was quite certain.
She carefully studied Liu Wuyi’s expression and teased, “Oh, so something’s going on, huh? ‘No one,’ my foot. A proper Alpha acting all coy are you afraid I won’t notice?”
How novel. Was this girl experiencing her first crush?
“W-what are you talking about?” Liu Wuyi immediately opened her front camera, scrutinizing her reflection left and right but failing to see any blushing or sense of coyness.
When she turned back to Jiang Lehan, she was met with a mocking expression.
Liu Wuyi: “…”
Since when were Alphas this cunning?
Seeing her like this, Jiang Lehan couldn’t help but shake her head and tease, “Confessing without being pressed, eyes darting everywhere, you’re done for, you’ve fallen in love.”
A grown daughter cannot be kept, she added silently.
At this point, even if Liu Wuyi didn’t want to admit it, she had to. “How could you tell? I wasn’t that obvious, was I?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Your forehead might as well be stamped with the words ‘Liu Wuyi likes Ji Yunshu.’ Besides, even if you tried to hide it, we’ve grown up together, you can’t fool anyone, least of all me.”
“A few days ago, during the welcome party, I noticed the way you looked at Ji Yunshu was off. Your gaze was practically dripping with affection.”
“And what’s more, you’ve even started reading computer science books lately. May I ask, Miss Liu, as a music student, what are you doing with computer science textbooks? Are you planning to start over from scratch?”
Jiang Lehan listed one piece of compelling evidence after another with sharp precision, inwardly marveling at her own cleverness. Then, she looked at Liu Wuyi with a gaze reserved for fools, as if to express her utter disdain.
“But couldn’t it just be that I…” Liu Wuyi tried to deny it outright, but Jiang Lehan cut her off mercilessly.
“Don’t, please don’t say you’re just being studious. Do you think I don’t know what you’re like?”
Jiang Lehan let out a drawn-out “Hiss” and leaned closer to Liu Wuyi, as if they were underground operatives exchanging secret information, careful not to be overheard by a third person. She whispered, “When did you two actually meet? There’s no trace of it at all. And how far have things progressed?”
Liu Wuyi’s cheeks flushed instantly, and she stammered, “You stop talking nonsense. We’re just friends right now.”
“Just friends, huh? Friieeends.” Jiang Lehan deliberately pinched her nose and mimicked Liu Wuyi’s stammer, making a comical face.
“So you haven’t managed to win him over yet, and you’re still ‘just friends’…”
“You chat with ‘friends’ with that expression? Quite unique, very innovative.” After saying this, Jiang Lehan seemed amused, her muffled laughter ringing in Liu Wuyi’s ears.
Liu Wuyi: “…”
Once again, she detected the teasing and mockery in Jiang Lehan’s words.
Sometimes, she really felt like hitting her!
Before their food arrived, Jiang Lehan suddenly remembered something important. She pulled out a piece of paper from her newly acquired Chanel lovebird chain backpack, a replica of her idol’s airport outfit as if presenting a treasure, and said triumphantly, “Guess what this is?””
“This is the Haicheng University Music Club registration form. Why do you have this?” Liu Wuyi took the form, looking puzzled. After all, in her memory, Jiang Lehan had always been tone-deaf whether singing or playing an instrument, it was like a cacophony, with every note having a mind of its own.
“What are you thinking? It’s not for me, it’s for you.”
Liu Wuyi pointed at herself in shock. “For me? But I never said I wanted to join.”
“Of course it’s for you. I don’t know how to play any instruments wouldn’t I just be causing trouble if I went?”
Just then, all the dishes they had ordered were served. Seeing that Liu Wuyi was about to refuse, Jiang Lehan quickly picked up a piece of eight-treasure duck and stuffed it into Liu Wuyi’s mouth. “Stop, don’t rush to say no. Listen to me: even though college clubs are mostly useless and come with a ton of daily tasks, I found out from one of Ji Yunshu’s classmates that he’s working part-time in this club.”
At these words, Liu Wuyi’s eyes instantly lit up, and she couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from curling upward.
“But don’t you still have to interview to join the club?”
“No need, just go directly. I’ve already taken care of everything else. So, am I a good friend or what?” Jiang Lehan raised her eyebrows, wearing an expression that begged for praise, mixed with a hint of flattery.
Seeing her like this, Liu Wuyi immediately understood. “You’re helping me like this for a reason, aren’t you? Spit it out, what do you want from me?”
At these words, Jiang Lehan eagerly grabbed a small bowl, scooped a few ladles of soup for Liu Wuyi, and handed it to her. “Look at you, talking like that. We’re so close, who else would I help if not you? Since you put it that way, I’ll be honest. I heard that your family’s company just launched a new ready-to-wear brand, DEW, and they’ve confirmed Shen Qingzhu as the spokesperson.”
“Yeah, so what?” Liu Wuyi pretended not to know her intentions, leisurely sipping the soup. She couldn’t help but marvel at how comforting Jiang Lehan’s soup always was.
“Then doesn’t that mean she’ll come at the end of the year to shoot magazines and do promotional events?”
“Probably, so what?”
Jiang Lehan grew anxious, her voice rising. “So what? What do you mean ‘so what’? What do you think? At the end of the year, I want to go to your company. You have to take me in or get me a work pass. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see my goddess up close!”
“Keep your voice down. Alright, alright, we’ll talk about it when we go home at the end of the year.” Liu Wuyi didn’t want to tease her any further, afraid she might get really upset, so she agreed.
Satisfied with the response, Jiang Lehan said, “Since that’s settled, I might as well be the good friend to the end. I’ll let you in on a little secret: Ji Yunshu has been attracting a lot of admirers lately.”
At this, it was Liu Wuyi’s turn to panic. “Since when?”
“Ever since Ji Yunshu performed that dance at the welcome party. With that one dance, she captivated the entire Haida University. Who doesn’t know about our talented and beautiful Omega girl now?”
“Honestly, before, people might have only known about Ji Yunshu’s skills, not her looks. But after her last appearance, everyone’s hearts are stirring!”
“She wore that jingling costume, applied just a touch of makeup, and with her gentle, water-like demeanor, she danced with such confidence. Anyone who saw her couldn’t help but say she’s stunning.”
“As the saying goes, ‘A confident girl is the most beautiful.’ There’s truth to that old adage.”
Everything unfolded exactly as Jiang Lehan had predicted at the welcome party.
“You didn’t even know this? You’re so out of touch, really out of touch.” Seeing Liu Wuyi’s clueless expression, Jiang Lehan shook her head teasingly and decided to help her out a bit more.
“Rumor has it that among the recent stream of admirers is none other than Jing Yao!”
Her?!
Jing Yao was no good. Liu Wuyi still felt a knot in her stomach remembering her last encounter with Jing Yao. Even though she trusted Ji Yunshu’s judgment and didn’t think she’d fall for someone so arrogant, there was always that tiny chance.
Could her love story be cut short halfway?
She couldn’t let Jing Yao ruin such a wonderful Omega!
Liu Wuyi’s mind began racing again. Her plan to join the music club had long been in the works.
Just then, Jiang Lehan glanced up and noticed two people sitting across from them. One of them, facing her, had a familiar face. “Hey, isn’t that the Alpha who stopped Ji Yunshu at the welcome party the other day?”
Upon hearing this, Liu Wuyi turned her head and with just one glance confirmed the identity of the person at the nearby table, it was indeed that Alpha from the other day. And the familiar figure sitting across from her.
It had to be Ji Yunshu!
To be absolutely certain, Liu Wuyi opened her WeChat and sent a message to her pinned contact.
Just then, the notification tone of a message sounded from the phone of the person sitting with their back turned at the nearby table. That person picked up their phone, tapped on the screen a few times, and soon Liu Wuyi received a reply.
It was her!!!
Just as Liu Wuyi was about to stand up and head toward their table, Jiang Lehan immediately stopped her.
“Ayu, take a good look at the Alpha sitting across from Ji Yunshu. Do you notice anything significant?”
However, no matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t spot anything out of the ordinary. Jiang Lehan couldn’t help but facepalm. “Haven’t you noticed how radiant that Alpha looks? Don’t you think you need to dress to impress too?” With that, Jiang Lehan opened her phone’s front camera and pointed it at Liu Wuyi, then pulled out a cushion compact and lipstick from her bag.
Normally, Liu Wuyi wouldn’t have cared about such things, but today was different.
See, I told you the Alpha guidelines were absolutely right. These are the pearls of wisdom from our predecessors maintaining one’s beauty is a must for any qualified Alpha.
Even Liu Wuyi, who was head over heels in love, had to acknowledge this truth.
Watching Liu Wuyi charge headfirst into the battlefield of love, Jiang Lehan couldn’t help but sigh. “What a handful she is. Here I am, someone who’s never even been in a relationship, and I’ve somehow turned into a matchmaker.”
