Did My Wife Break Up With Me Today? - Chapter 72
Chapter 72: “So Sweet, Just Like Its Owner.”
The next day was the weekend.
Naturally, Chen Kongqing couldn’t wake up early. He slept until the small screen window by the bed was flooded with sunlight. Golden rays crept through the mesh, climbing onto the light gray sheets beside the window. Beneath the soft gray duvet nestled a limp, fluffy rabbit.
Chen Kongqing had slept very deeply. By the time he truly woke up, his eyelids felt warm from the sun. Urgent and aggrieved meows rang in his ears.
“Meow~” “Meow meow.” “Meow!”
Then, the bed shook. Black Cat Sheriff, agile as ever, leaped onto the mattress. “Meow!”
Chen Kongqing rubbed his eyes and shifted his body. As he moved, a wave of soreness and numbness shot through his legs, making him wince. The little black cat poked its head over, sniffing all around him.
Chen Kongqing’s consciousness slowly pieced itself back together. No one was beside him, only the cat. However, the fresh sheets and the stinging sensation at the junction of his thighs told him that last night was not a dream.
Chen Kongqing patted the cat’s head with one hand and rubbed his own head with the other. He felt dizzy and heavy, as if he had just slept off a drunken stupor. His silenced phone vibrated on the pillow.
Buzz— Buzz—
He sluggishly reached for the phone and looked at the caller ID: “Dr. Xu.”
This was the label he had saved long ago and never changed. Dr. Xu… Back then, he never would have imagined he would be… rolling around with Dr. Xu. At the thought, his ear tips turned crimson.
The phone continued to vibrate. After several seconds, he finally answered.
“Hello…” As expected, his voice was raspy and dry, carrying the nasal tone of someone who had just woken up.
Compared to his soft, weak voice, the man on the other end sounded particularly vigorous and refreshed. “Not awake yet?”
“I’m… I’m awake.” Chen Kongqing rubbed his eyes, feeling as if his throat were full of soda bubbles.
Xu Jingmo seemed to be smiling. “There’s breakfast on the table. It might be cold, so heat it up before you eat. I’ll come over at noon to bring you lunch.”
“Where… where did you go?” Actually, while he was half-asleep this morning, he had heard Xu Jingmo holding him and whispering something, then pressing a kiss to his forehead. But he hadn’t caught the words—just a mumble.
Xu Jingmo said warmly, “I have a meeting this morning. I mentioned it to you several times, baby.”
Baby.
He had a bit of PTSD regarding that title now. Xu Jingmo had called him that all through the night.
“Baby, why are your legs so long?” “Baby, [censored].” “[Censored], baby.”
Ahhhhhhh.
At the memory, Chen Kongqing yanked the duvet over his head, hiding like an ostrich. The man on the phone heard a rustling sound but no response. “Baby?”
“…” Chen Kongqing lifted his face from the pillow. “I know…”
Xu Jingmo suddenly blurted out, “Are you uncomfortable?”
“What?” Chen Kongqing’s voice was muffled.
Xu Jingmo: “I changed the sheets and gave you a bath. Do you feel better?”
The sheets were indeed dry and comfortable, but he was still uncomfortable. This discomfort had nothing to do with the sheets. But he was too embarrassed to say it. “Mm… better… a bit better.”
“I brought medicine back for you.” Xu Jingmo wasn’t joking; he sounded very serious. “The skin is chafed. Your [censored] is too tender. You’re tender everywhere, like tofu.”
Why would you say that?! Why would you say that?!
Even though he was currently the only human in the house, he still buried his head deeper into the pillow and remained silent for a long time.
This didn’t stop Xu Jingmo from continuing: “You’re like tofu—you feel like you’ll break with just a light touch.”
“I am not… I clearly…” I clearly cooperated so much… His voice trailed off as his confidence failed him.
Because it was true… he had trembled so violently. It felt like Xu Jingmo had only touched him casually and he had already [censored], crying and saying he couldn’t take it.
At those tears, Xu Jingmo’s heart had indeed softened, and he hadn’t gone all the way. He had just used [censored]. Even though he had been very cooperative and held him very tightly, for Xu Jingmo, it was probably just a small snack.
In short, they had ground on like that for a long time. The skin was almost raw, yet Xu Jingmo was still incredibly [censored]. Midway through, he had embarrassingly [censored] again—on Xu Jingmo’s face and hair.
The sight of the [censored] against the dark hair was a visual shock that made the already spent Chen Kongqing shake like a leaf. Xu Jingmo had even used a fingertip to pick up a bit of that [censored] and put it to his lips.
The rabbit had already been a limp noodle, but seeing that, he leaped up like a fish out of water to stop him. “What are you doing?!”
Xu Jingmo had laughed and pinned the “fish” back into his embrace, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed. “So sweet, just like its owner.”
How… how could Xu Jingmo be like this!
Chen Kongqing’s face was red, and he had no energy to struggle. He could only mutter, “Pervert…”
“You don’t like it?” the man teased, rubbing him.
The rabbit’s face was flushed, his breathing uneven. After a few seconds of hesitation, he confessed honestly: “I like it…”
Xu Jingmo pressed further: “Like what?”
The rabbit fluttered, still in the middle of a [censored], completely unable to hold his ground. “Like… like you.”
Xu Jingmo: “Do you like the pervert too?”
In his arms, a physiological tear leaked from the corner of Chen Kongqing’s eye. “I like him…”
“So good, Qingqing.” Xu Jingmo finally let go and pinched the face that was as red as an apple.
At the time, Chen Kongqing thought it was over. He hadn’t realized that the night was… so, so long.
He wasn’t fully conscious during the latter half of the night, so he didn’t know when Xu Jingmo finally [censored]. All he knew was that before he fell asleep, Xu Jingmo was still holding him down.
Every frame and scene from the night flooded back into his head without any buffer. Chen Kongqing tossed the phone aside, his voice muffled by the pillow. “Go… go to your meeting. I… I’m getting up.”
A low chuckle came from the speaker before the man finally stopped. “Alright. Go eat. I’ll come over as soon as I’m finished.”
“Mm…”
The call finally ended. Chen Kongqing stayed in bed hugging the cat, not moving an inch, his face still flushed. Last night, he had watched Xu Jingmo put Black Cat Sheriff in its carrier and place it by the coffee table, making sure its view of the bed was blocked before he slowly started unbuttoning his shirt.
But holding the cat now, he still felt guilty. Even if the cat didn’t see, it definitely heard something…
He covered the cat’s ears, chanting like a mantra, “Forget it, forget it… you… you can’t listen to that…”
The cat’s skin was pulled back by his hands, and it glared at him, huffing. “Meow meow!”
Chen Kongqing realized the cat was hungry—actually, quite hungry. Otherwise, it wouldn’t meow at him like that. It was almost noon; it would be weird if it weren’t hungry.
“I’ll… I’ll get you food right now!” He scrambled out of bed.
The moment his feet touched the floor, a floating sensation traveled up from his toes. It was like stepping on cotton—no sense of reality. He hobbled forward with his legs spread slightly. Why was he walking like that? Because if he walked normally, it would rub.
Even without rubbing, it felt raw, and the surrounding muscles were aching and stiff. He was like this just from [censored]… if they really did it for real, wouldn’t he…
Sigh.
Chen Kongqing let out a long sigh as he watched the cat eating happily. He had intended to scoop the litter, but it had already been replaced. It wasn’t him, and it certainly wasn’t the cat. It had to be Xu Jingmo.
He realized Xu Jingmo was a bit like the “Snail Boy” from the folktales. How did he have the energy to do so much work? Washing the sheets, washing him, and even changing the cat litter. The floor was sparkling, and there was breakfast on the table.
They say men go from 25 to 65 overnight… so how did Xu Jingmo have the strength of a bull?
Suddenly, there was a sound at the door. The cat pricked up its ears. Chen Kongqing turned his head. Xu Jingmo squeezed through the small door frame holding a massive bouquet of flowers.
Chen Kongqing, sitting on the sofa, was instantly drawn to the flowers.
“Awake?” The man approached with flowers in one hand and a packed lunch in the other.
A bouquet of jasmine and white roses was thrust in front of Chen Kongqing. To be precise… a huge, massive bouquet. It was so big he couldn’t hold it with one arm and had to circle it with both.
The aesthetic was still there, but Chen Kongqing felt it wasn’t as exquisite as the Maltese Blue flowers from last time. The Maltese Blue emphasized elegance, not size. This bouquet seemed to emphasize… being big.
“Why… why so many? It’s too big.” He could bury his face in the jasmine with plenty of room to spare.
Xu Jingmo calmly turned and laid out the lunch containers on the table. “It should be bigger than the bouquet someone else sent you.”
Chen Kongqing froze, clutching the flowers. Xu Jingmo must have overheard Du Song saying, “It’s a huge bunch”…
He held the flowers, his nose filled with jasmine scent, and stared at the man’s back. “Are you still jealous?”
“No…” Xu Jingmo turned around and leaned lazily against the dining table, his phoenix eyes locking onto him. “I won’t let you accept flowers from others, so naturally, I have to give you something better.”
Chen Kongqing held the flowers, his small frame mostly hidden by them. “Fine. But next time, don’t send such a big one. You know my place is small; it won’t fit.”
“It is too small. Move out.” Xu Jingmo walked over, set the bouquet on the floor, and said, “Come eat.”
Chen Kongqing nodded and stood up. The moment he rose, his muscles throbbed with pain. He bit his lip. It was a small movement, but he was caught.
Xu Jingmo supported his arm. “Shall I help you?”
“It’s only a few steps. I’m… I’m not that fragile.” Chen Kongqing pushed the man away with his dignity intact and moved to the table with a very strange gait.
Xu Jingmo followed, concerned. “How about I help you apply the medicine first?”
“No… it’s fine. Really!” The rabbit lowered his head and picked up his chopsticks. “I want to eat first.”
Xu Jingmo sat down too. “Alright, eat first.”
The man had brought all his favorites: steamed fish, okra salad, stir-fried beef, and lettuce in oyster sauce. There was also a container of pork rib and carrot soup. Chen Kongqing took a large bite of a soft carrot.
Xu Jingmo served him soup. “Move out. This place is too small and damp. It’s going to start raining in Kun City in a few days. The walls and floors will get misty. It’ll be uncomfortable and bad for your health.”
The rainy season in Kun City was indeed annoying. Chen Kongqing took a sip of the clear soup. “Mm… but this place is close to school.”
“My place is also close to school.” Xu Jingmo pursed his lips. “Move back in with me.”
The rabbit slurped his soup and went silent. Moving back… Xu Jingmo’s apartment was indeed excellent. It was the nicest place he had ever lived. But… moving back just like that, even though they were officially dating… it felt a bit weird. To move in together so quickly.
“It’s okay… I think it’s fine here. The sixth floor shouldn’t be too damp.”
The man’s expression darkened slightly, looking wounded. “I see. You don’t want to live with me.”
“No…” Chen Kongqing poked his lip with the end of his chopstick. “It’s not that… I feel like we’re dating. I can’t just eat your food and live in your house… that doesn’t feel like a relationship. It feels like…” Being kept…
He didn’t say the words, swallowing them back down. Xu Jingmo narrowed his eyes. “Feels like what?”
The gaze was too intense. Chen Kongqing was pinned down with no room to escape. After struggling for a few seconds, the rabbit blurted out, “Like being a sugar baby…”
His ears and cheeks instantly burned with heat. He hurriedly buried his face in his food, eating a huge mouthful.
Beside him, Xu Jingmo’s lips curled into a chuckle. That laugh made Chen Kongqing’s face even redder. Last night, Xu Jingmo had laughed just like that—laughing while watching him melt into a puddle.
Chen Kongqing gritted his teeth, feeling rebellious. “What are you laughing at…”
“I was just thinking…” Xu Jingmo kept smiling, his thumb brushing a grain of rice from the corner of Chen Kongqing’s mouth. “If only I had such an opportunity.”
Chen Kongqing’s face turned even redder. He knew Xu Jingmo was referring to the chance to “keep” him. “What would you do if you had the chance?”
Xu Jingmo: “I’d make you stay by my side every single day. Stay in bed, and never let you get down.”
