Chapter 71: “Does Qingqing want it to watch us do it?”
Chen Kongqing’s lips were pried open once again.
This time, it wasn’t by fingers, but by a tongue.
Xu Jingmo kissed fiercely, as if he wanted to consume him whole. Unable to withstand such a powerful impact, Chen Kongqing’s lower back slammed heavily against the small dining table behind him. The small pot, the kettle, and the glass cups on the table all rattled, making clinking noises.
“Mph…” Chen Kongqing still didn’t pull away. Once he stabilized himself, he tilted his face even higher to make it easier for Xu Jingmo.
Xu Jingmo’s eyes were half-closed. The tongue that had been exploring deep within Chen Kongqing’s mouth slowly withdrew, and he stared fixedly at the rabbit before him.
The rabbit’s cheeks were flushed deep red; he had been kissed senseless and seemed to have lost all strength, leaning limp against the table as if he might collapse at any moment.
Xu Jingmo took a half-step forward, and as expected, Chen Kongqing naturally fell into his arms, his chin resting on the man’s shoulder. His lips, swollen from the suction, were slightly parted, exhaling small, shallow breaths.
Xu Jingmo reached out and ruffled the soft hair, only to realize that it was damp, with strands sticking to the boy’s temples. He gently brushed back the dark hair with his fingers, the sound of Chen Kongqing’s breathing echoing in his ear. His movements were incredibly tender—a complete contrast to the man who had just been kissing him so aggressively.
Chen Kongqing finally caught his breath and tilted his head slightly to bury his face in Xu Jingmo’s chest. He knew Xu Jingmo must work out; normally, he just noticed the man had a good figure, no belly, and broad shoulders. Only by leaning in like this did he realize that it wasn’t just broad shoulders—the pectoral muscles were substantial.
Chen Kongqing rubbed his cheek against that firm muscle, suddenly feeling a surge of nervousness. Okay, truth be told, he had been nervous all along. It was just that the intense kissing earlier had caused his brain to stop functioning. Now that his brain was back online, the anxiety came rushing back.
Was the next step coming?
But he hadn’t showered yet… He had been in the herbal grove behind the school with his professor today; he must smell like herbs…
The man holding him didn’t seem in a hurry to move to the next step. Chen Kongqing lifted his face slightly, wanting to suggest he shower first.
Xu Jingmo was staring at him. It felt like he hadn’t just started staring; he had been watching him the whole time.
“Will you accept them?” the man finally spoke.
Chen Kongqing wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he felt Xu Jingmo had been unusually quiet tonight—even the cat had meowed more than he had spoken. And he didn’t quite understand what the man meant. “What?”
Xu Jingmo: “The flowers. Will Qingqing accept them?”
The man’s voice was as steady as ever, his fingers stroking Chen Kongqing’s growing hair again.
Without a second thought, Chen Kongqing shook his head. “No… I only accept flowers from you. Those flowers…” It seemed a bit improper to just leave them there.
As he was thinking of a solution, Xu Jingmo said bluntly: “Throw them away.”
“Ahem…” Chen Kongqing coughed, lightly touching Xu Jingmo’s arm and whispering, “That wouldn’t be very nice.” Throwing away someone’s sentiment felt wrong.
He suddenly had a brilliant idea. “I know! Some flowers can be used as medicine. I’ll take the medicinal ones to the lab and process them into herbs…”
“Mm, flowers can be medicine,” Xu Jingmo repeated, a storm quietly brewing in his phoenix eyes. “Isn’t the Campsis flower (Lingxiao flower) a medicine?”
“Lingxiao…” Chen Kongqing naturally picked up the thread, wanting to say how useful the Campsis flower was. But the moment the name “Lingxiao” left his mouth, the storm in those phoenix eyes swept into his own.
Only then did he realize Xu Jingmo was referring to that Ling Xiao.
He swallowed his words. “Um… well, many things are medicine. Jingmo (Traditional Chinese ink) is also a medicine.”
Xu Jingmo: “Is it?”
“Yes, Jingmo was used as a painkiller in ancient times,” Chen Kongqing replied. This wasn’t something he had made up. “Did I not tell you before?”
Xu Jingmo: “No. I only remember your old profile picture was a Campsis flower.”
“…” Chen Kongqing was speechless for a moment, caught off guard. “Um… it’s not that anymore.”
The storm in Xu Jingmo’s eyes surged and then receded, suppressed. “Mm. I’m the one who reminded you to change it.”
That was true…
Chen Kongqing bit his lip. “Then… should I change it to a photo of you?”
He had actually thought about it before, but then he wondered if Xu Jingmo would find it childish. Is the act of changing a profile picture or posting to Moments as soon as a relationship starts too juvenile? Thinking this, he hadn’t asked. Plus, they had both been so busy right after they got together that he had forgotten.
The man’s hand moved from his hair to his earlobe. “Forget it.”
“Why… forget it again?” Chen Kongqing pouted. He was a bit ticklish and tried to dodge. “Do you think it’s childish?”
“No…” Xu Jingmo denied it flatly. “I just felt like you weren’t very willing.”
“I am!” Chen Kongqing also denied it flatly.
His earlobe was being pinched—not painfully, but it was ticklish. Chen Kongqing couldn’t help but shiver, his eyelashes fluttering like butterfly wings.
“Chen Kongqing, do you like me?” Xu Jingmo’s Adam’s apple rolled—not out of desire this time, but out of nervousness.
It had been a long time since he felt this nervous; perhaps not since his university graduation defense or a speech in St. Petersburg. But compared to those moments, this felt even more tense. More frightening.
Xu Jingmo: “Setting aside these eyes, do you still like me?”
He hadn’t dared to ask until now.
“I originally wanted to have sex with you today, thinking that it would prove you love me, or that our relationship would become more stable. But it seems that’s not the case. If it’s really because of these eyes, when you have sex with me, who would you be thinking of—me or Ling Xiao?” Xu Jingmo leaned down, his lips brushing against the boy’s earlobe. By the time he reached the last sentence, his usually steady voice had turned raspy.
Chen Kongqing paused. He thought this issue was already over. He hadn’t realized Xu Jingmo was so… so insecure. That he would think to that extent.
He proactively hooked his arms around the man’s elegant neck, drawing the pleasant scent of Earl Grey tea into his nose. “It’s you, of course! I like you, obviously. Even without these eyes, I would still like you.”
As he spoke, he held the man even tighter, almost hanging off him, his lips brushing against the side of the man’s neck. “Really. I’m not just saying that to appease you.”
A hand wrapped around his waist, pulling him forward. The distance between their two bodies vanished, pressing together tightly. Chen Kongqing felt like he was melting from the heat, but he didn’t pull away; instead, he generously relaxed his body. “The person I like is Xu Jingmo, not anyone else.”
He lifted his face, and the man’s lips descended predictably. They shared a sticky kiss. When he was finally released, Chen Kongqing was gasping again, trying to catch his breath. Then he was kissed again. They repeated this cycle several times.
His legs were lifted. Xu Jingmo effortlessly hoisted him onto the small wooden table behind him. The cool tabletop pressed against his trousers. In his dazed state, Chen Kongqing’s heart skipped a beat.
Soon, Xu Jingmo kissed him again. On the back of the hand gripping his legs, a winding vein throbbed. The kiss was very long—so long that Chen Kongqing felt the last bit of oxygen in his lungs had been depleted.
Sweat beaded on the rabbit’s forehead. His lips had been kissed out of shape, and he looked quite out of it. Yet even in this state, the rabbit didn’t forget to confess: “Xu Jingmo, actually, the reason I like these eyes… isn’t because of… Ling Xiao.”
Xu Jingmo’s eyes were somber, his palm squeezing the boy’s thigh.
“I always have a dream,” Chen Kongqing whispered in his ear. “You know, I forgot a lot of things when I was sick before.”
Hearing this, a flash went through Xu Jingmo’s eyes. “Mm.”
“Since I forgot the past, I… I always dream of a pair of eyes.” Chen Kongqing opened his hazy eyes and lowered his head. “They are phoenix eyes like this. So… you can’t say I like these eyes because of Ling Xiao. I like them because of that dream… but I didn’t know whose eyes they were. So, you aren’t a substitute for anyone.”
“I might have a natural affinity for people with eyes like this, but… it’s not like I’ll like anyone just because they have them. Don’t… don’t think like that. I really like you.”
Xu Jingmo went silent.
Chen Kongqing bit his lip and carefully looked up. He saw nameless emotions churning and boiling in those deep phoenix eyes. He thought Xu Jingmo couldn’t accept his explanation, so he lowered his head again in shame. “Do you still feel uncomfortable? I’m sorry…”
“No.” Xu Jingmo suddenly reached out with a finger, hooking it under the boy’s chin to lift it.
Chen Kongqing was forced to meet those phoenix eyes. Beneath the nameless emotions, the gloom was gradually dissipating.
“I get it now. You just like me.”
Chen Kongqing didn’t quite understand. What did “You just like me” mean? His head was fuzzy, and trying to think made it worse. He gave up on trying to understand; at least Xu Jingmo finally knew he liked him. So, the rabbit just nodded dizzily.
Then, his eyes were kissed, followed by the tip of his nose. Then his lips. Amidst the kissing, he was led into the inner room and pressed onto the small bed.
Xu Jingmo plucked a strand of black cat fur from the sheets. Chen Kongqing coughed awkwardly. “Um… Black Cat Sheriff has been shedding a bit lately.”
Xu Jingmo stood up to get a lint roller and ran it over the bed several times. “Does it sleep with you every day?”
Chen Kongqing bit his lip. “Mm…”
Xu Jingmo: “Not tonight.”
The kitten, which had been quiet after its meal, suddenly meowed twice from its blanket as if in protest. Chen Kongqing instinctively asked, “Why?”
“It’s too small; there’s already no room to move.” Clearly, Xu Jingmo was referring to the single bed. His tone was calm, but a smile touched his lips. “Besides… does Qingqing want it to watch us do it?”
