Did My Wife Break Up With Me Today? - Chapter 70
Chapter 70: Initiative
Chen Kongqing listened, looking down as his gaze fell upon that box with the classic packaging…
If he only listened to what Xu Jingmo said, it didn’t seem like there was a problem. But looking at that box while hearing those words made it feel… a bit strange.
“Aren’t… aren’t we going back to my place to feed Black Cat Sheriff the salmon?”
They had Japanese food for dinner and had some sashimi left over, so they packed it up to cook and feed to the kitten.
“We can,” Xu Jingmo agreed, starting the car. “Let’s go to your place then.”
He didn’t mean it that way by going home…
Chen Kongqing started to say something but stopped. As his hand reached into the shopping bag for the jasmine tea, it brushed past that classic box. His fingertips felt as if they had been struck by an electric current.
He quickly grabbed the bottle, lifted it, twisted off the cap, and hurriedly took a large gulp. The cool jasmine tea rolled down his dry throat, smoothing out some of the restlessness in his heart. But very quickly, that restlessness flared up again; it couldn’t be smoothed over.
Isn’t this moving too fast? He and Xu Jingmo had only been together for a month. A month and already… is that not right?
But honestly, if Xu Jingmo wanted to, he… wasn’t opposed to it.
Chen Kongqing couldn’t help but pick at a hangnail. Doing it against the grain caused a sharp sting, making his nerves flinch. His thoughts were just as messy.
…
They remained in that state of mental chaos until they reached home.
The hallway outside the rental was usually damp and cold. Because most tenants were out-of-town workers or students, no one ever bothered to maintain it. But recently, for some reason, the landlord had a sudden “stroke of conscience” and renovated the hallway. Even the lights were brighter and more sensitive than on other floors.
Chen Kongqing opened the door. Black Cat Sheriff seemed to have already smelled the salmon, trotting to the door on light paws. “Meow~”
He stroked the cat’s head, changed his shoes, and went to pour water into a small pot. The salmon slices slowly lost their beautiful marbled pattern in the boiling water, turning into pieces of plain white fish.
The small pot bubbled and gurgled. Chen Kongqing kept his head down as if staring at the pot, but he was actually stealing glances at Xu Jingmo, who was sitting on the sofa.
The man sat with his legs casually crossed on the single sofa that had previously held both their weights. Those phoenix eyes had long since been glued to the rabbit standing by the stove.
Although Chen Kongqing was only 175cm tall, his proportions were excellent—his waist was very slender, his legs were straight, and his neck was thin and elegant, giving him the posture of a swan. Xu Jingmo stared at that fair, tender neck, his gaze deepening.
Chen Kongqing could feel it. He instinctively forced his wandering gaze back to the bubbling pot. The fish was done; the black cat was already waiting by the table.
It seemed Black Cat wasn’t the only one waiting for “food.”
Chen Kongqing’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He gritted his teeth and turned off the stove; any longer and the meat would fall apart. As the sound of the bubbling water died down, the small space fell into total silence, save for the cat’s impatient meows.
Chen Kongqing fished the salmon out to let it cool. “You have to wait a bit, kitten.”
At least I can stall for a few more minutes… Chen Kongqing thought, turning to get the cat bowl.
Xu Jingmo sat quietly on the sofa, watching the rabbit scurry around the tiny apartment. Suddenly, a sharp ringtone cut through the air.
Chen Kongqing pulled his phone from his pocket. It was his senior, Du Song. He set down the cat bowl and answered. “Senior? What’s up?”
“Kongqing-er, there are flowers for you at the security office!” Du Song gave a gossipy chuckle. “A huge bouquet. Who is it? They even sent them to the lab building.”
“Flowers?” Chen Kongqing was surprised.
Sending flowers—the only person who should be doing that was Xu Jingmo, right?
Du Song: “Yeah, a massive bunch. I don’t know what kind they are, but they’re beautiful. Your name is on the card. If you can’t pick them up now, you can leave them at the security booth. Just wanted to let you know.”
“Okay… I got it. I’ll leave them there for now.”
The call ended. Xu Jingmo asked immediately, “What happened?”
“Um…” Chen Kongqing was confused and asked Xu Jingmo, “Did you order flowers to be sent to the lab for me?”
But it didn’t make sense. He and Xu Jingmo had been together all evening; there was no reason for him to send a bouquet to the lab now.
As soon as he spoke, a layer of darkness clouded the man’s phoenix eyes. They looked like hollow black holes. “It wasn’t me.”
Chen Kongqing frowned. Could the senior have been mistaken?
Xu Jingmo: “Someone sent you flowers?”
“Senior said there’s a bouquet at the security booth with my name on it. Strange…” Chen Kongqing scratched the back of his head, unable to figure it out.
“Feed the cat first. It should be ready,” Xu Jingmo said flatly, but his eyes were no longer as calm as his voice.
Chen Kongqing nodded and put the fish into the cat’s bowl. Being interrupted like this made him forget his nervousness; he was just wondering who sent the flowers.
Black Cat Sheriff buried his head in the bowl, his tail swaying back and forth with every bite. Crouching by the bowl, Chen Kongqing stroked the cat’s furry ears. He played for a while before standing up.
As he stood, he realized Xu Jingmo was already standing right in front of him. Chen Kongqing jumped, his body instinctively flinching backward. His hands reached behind his back to brace against the edge of the dining table—a completely vulnerable posture.
The man just stared at him. His phoenix eyes were dark, like flowing ink. He didn’t speak, nor did he move closer. Yet the tension made Chen Kongqing grip the table edge tightly. His throat felt parched, as if he hadn’t had water in days.
He swallowed hard, a hint of panic entering his expression. Instinctively wanting to escape, he lowered his eyes and asked, “Do you… do you want some water?”
Xu Jingmo: “No.”
“Oh…” Chen Kongqing pursed his lips, having no idea what to say or where to look.
The next second, his chin was seized. Chen Kongqing froze as his face was forced upward. His gaze was compelled to meet those ink-like eyes. His throat felt so dry he could barely make a sound. The flesh of his cheeks was pinched, just like during one of their previous kisses.
Thinking Xu Jingmo was going to kiss him again, Chen Kongqing cooperatively parted his lips slightly.
A storm suddenly brewed in those dark eyes. The fingers pinching his cheeks applied more pressure.
“Mph…”
The rabbit’s pink lips were pried open wider. However, Xu Jingmo didn’t lean down to kiss him. Instead, he raised his other hand.
The man’s hands were broad and his fingers thick—not the stubby kind, but long, straight, and powerful. Compared to Chen Kongqing’s slender, pale fingers, they were much larger.
Xu Jingmo pressed his thumb against the corner of Chen Kongqing’s mouth. Chen Kongqing’s lips were thin and perfectly shaped; the man’s thumb could cover half the width of his mouth.
How can it be so small?
What could something this small even hold?
The man’s gaze grew even darker, as if the storm in his eyes was just waiting for the right moment to break. His thumb caught the soft lower lip, rubbing over it with moderate pressure.
Chen Kongqing felt very strange; he had never touched his own mouth like this. Having someone else do it… his ear tips turned red instantly. His lower lip was rubbed repeatedly until a hint of moisture escaped from the corner of his mouth.
Chen Kongqing thought Xu Jingmo was just going to keep rubbing them, so he let him. Until… five seconds later.
“Ah!!” Chen Kongqing let out a sharp gasp.
His lips were pried open without warning. It wasn’t like before, opened by a tongue, but rather… by Xu Jingmo’s index finger. His teeth and tongue could clearly feel the sensation of the finger sliding in and out. His teeth even brushed against Xu Jingmo’s hard fingernail.
It was such a bizarre feeling.
Chen Kongqing was resistant at first, but he quickly accepted it, no longer pulling his head back. Seeing that he had adapted, Xu Jingmo soon slid his middle finger—longer and thicker than the index—into the warm, wet mouth as well.
“Mph… mph…” Chen Kongqing couldn’t help but let out two muffled sounds.
Why… why add another one? His teeth brushed back and forth against the two fingers. Soon, his stretched cheeks began to ache. The moisture at the corners of his mouth accumulated until it was nearly dripping down his chin to his neck.
Chen Kongqing finally let out two more muffled sounds, reaching out to grab Xu Jingmo’s wrist, moving his hand up to squeeze the man’s shoulder. Only then did Xu Jingmo slowly withdraw his wet fingers from the soft, damp oral cavity.
Chen Kongqing’s lips finally snapped shut, and his aching cheeks relaxed. He stared at Xu Jingmo’s wet fingers. The redness from his ears burned down to his neck, then spread to his chin and cheeks.
He looked down, pulled two clean tissues from the box on the table, wrapped them around Xu Jingmo’s fingers, and gently wiped them.
Xu Jingmo’s Adam’s apple rolled as he watched the rabbit, who was so well-behaved he almost couldn’t bear to tease him further. “No need to wipe.”
Chen Kongqing let go of the tissue. “Um… do you still want to play?”
Xu Jingmo was speechless for a moment.
Chen Kongqing thought this meant he did, so he took Xu Jingmo’s hand and proactively leaned his face in. His wet, soft tongue poked out clumsily, licking the man’s knuckles, then changing angles to lick again.
“Is… is it like this?”
Xu Jingmo exerted every ounce of self-control not to strip the rabbit bare right then and there. “Why are you so good?”
Chen Kongqing retracted his tongue and looked at him with pure, innocent eyes. “Don’t… don’t you want to have sex? This… this should count as foreplay, right? Let’s make the foreplay a bit longer. I’m a bit afraid of… of it hurting.”
