- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 36 - Testing the Waters
Wang Xinghe was not naturally attracted to men, nor was he gay.
Being with Lu Jingze was an accident.
Because of Lu Jingze, he also began to face this community directly.
He sensitively picked up on the fact that the tall boy next to his brother-in-law seemed a bit too intimate in his gestures towards him.
Although boys often joked around, in front of people, everyone usually liked to pretend to be a ‘cool guy.’
Just as he was about to call out to his brother-in-law, Lu Wang spoke out first, waving at them. “Brother Chen, Xiao Ming, what are you two doing here?”
Upon hearing Lu Wang’s voice, Chen Junsheng turned his head almost instinctively.
His gaze lingered on Wang Xinghe for a moment, and his complexion subtly changed.
He then deliberately distanced himself from Lu Ming.
He managed a smile and waved at them. “You guys are also here to eat?”
“There’s nothing good to eat downstairs. Perfect, Brother Chen, let’s go together,” Lu Wang enthusiastically invited.
Wang Xinghe nodded without changing his expression. “Yes, Brother-in-law, let’s go together.”
Chen Junsheng lowered his eyes, touched his nose, and smiled, nodding. “Alright.”
The delicate and handsome young man ran over quickly, throwing himself onto Lu Wang.
“Bro~” The boy’s voice was very clear and pleasant.
The scent on him was elegant and light, like being in a forest oxygen bar, not floral. It had a grassy freshness, very comfortable and not off-putting.
“You’re a grown man, stop clinging to people. Get down quickly, don’t let people laugh at us,” Lu Wang spoke with mock disdain, but his eyes were full of affection. He reached out and gently ruffled Lu Ming’s soft, chestnut-brown curly hair.
Lu Ming got off Lu Wang, chuckled, tilted his head, and pointed at Wang Xinghe. His bright eyes blinked lightly. “So handsome, he looks so good. Brother, who is this?”
“Is he your friend?” he asked curiously, his eyes never leaving Wang Xinghe.
Being stared at by such a young man made Wang Xinghe feel a little uncomfortable.
Lu Wang quickly explained. “What are you talking about? This is Brother Chen’s brother-in-law. Call him Brother Xinghe.”
Lu Ming froze slightly, his eyes wide, forgetting to blink, seemingly a little uneasy.
He quickly hid behind Lu Wang, then cautiously waved at Wang Xinghe. “Hi, Brother Xinghe~”
Wang Xinghe glanced at him, nodded politely, and responded. “Hello.”
His voice was gentle and polite, and then he shifted his gaze away.
“Let’s not stand around. Let’s go in and eat,” Chen Junsheng subtly led them into the grilled fish restaurant.
The restaurant’s decor was warm and comfortable, and the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled fish.
“The fish in this restaurant is killed and sold fresh, Xinghe. Take a look at what kind of fish you want to eat?” Chen Junsheng said while handing the menu to Wang Xinghe.
The dazzling array of fish on the menu made Wang Xinghe a little dizzy: sea bass, grass carp, Qingjiang fish, snakehead, common carp, catfish…
He was not very familiar with these types of fish and could not easily distinguish their differences in taste.
“I don’t really know much about these. You guys order. I’ll eat anything,” Wang Xinghe smiled and pushed the menu back.
Lu Ming took the menu and said excitedly, “I love fish. I’ll order. In this cold winter, eating something spicy is the best. Let’s get the catfish. Their catfish are raised in their own pond, very clean.”
“Okay, catfish it is,” Chen Junsheng agreed to Lu Ming’s choice and raised his ringless left hand to signal the waiter.
Wang Xinghe glanced at his left hand, which was bare.
Yet, many years ago, his brother-in-law’s wedding ring was never off his hand.
“We want this five-jin catfish, a side of oyster sauce greens, and a portion of stir-fried liver slices,” Chen Junsheng skillfully finished ordering and handed the menu to the waiter.
While the four waited for the food, Lu Ming started dividing the bowls and chopsticks for everyone and took on the task of pouring barley tea.
He also meticulously scalded the bowls and chopsticks with hot water for everyone.
Wang Xinghe remained silent throughout the process, his gaze shifting between Chen Junsheng and Lu Ming, observing their interactions.
Lu Wang was very easygoing. Once the dishes arrived, he enthusiastically encouraged Wang Xinghe and Lu Ming to eat, and politely addressed Chen Junsheng a few times in between.
After the group had eaten their fill, Wang Xinghe still said nothing.
His eyes had been quietly observing all along.
“Brother Chen, thank you for taking care of my brother. Sometimes I’m too busy, and as a brother, I tend to neglect him,” Lu Wang sincerely thanked Chen Junsheng as the four walked toward the parking lot.
“He’s your brother. You contribute to the company, so why can’t I help you look after your family? Besides, it was just a casual thing. We happened to run into each other here. He’s a college student without much money, so I just treated him to a meal,” Chen Junsheng said with a slight smile to the three of them. His answer was appropriate and considerate.
Wang Xinghe couldn’t find anything inappropriate, but his intuition told him that some things were not as simple as they appeared on the surface.
When they reached the parking lot, Lu Ming tried to follow Chen Junsheng.
Lu Wang pulled him back. “Come with my car. Don’t always trouble Brother Chen.”
Lu Ming struggled. “Who cares who I go with? Anyway, my school is nearby. Fine, I’ll take the subway~”
Saying that, he walked away in a huff. Lu Wang felt helpless and looked at Chen Junsheng. “Sorry, Brother Chen, this kid has been a bit too stubborn lately…”
“It’s fine. I’ll drop him off. I need to go to the Art Academy next to his school anyway to talk to a professor,” Chen Junsheng said, looking at the distant, sulking figure.
He started his car, rolled down the window, and said to Wang Xinghe, “Why don’t you ride with me? I remember you also went to the Art Academy. You could meet your professor.”
Wang Xinghe’s face looked a little pale.
He gently shook his head, politely declining Chen Junsheng’s invitation. “No need, Brother-in-law, you go ahead. I’m not very familiar with the business yet. It won’t be too late to go next time.”
“Alright then. You go back with Brother Wang,” Chen Junsheng stopped in front of Lu Ming.
“Get in the car. Stop messing around,” Chen Junsheng said, somewhat coaxing Lu Ming and signaling him with his eyes.
Lu Ming turned and made a face at Lu Wang, then ducked into the car.
Lu Wang, resigned, got into his car with Wang Xinghe.
“Our parents passed away early. My brother and I grew up depending on each other. I spoiled him a bit, so his temper can be a little boundless. Don’t take it personally,” Lu Wang felt that his brother had indeed been too impolite today.
Wang Xinghe waved his hand. “It’s nothing.”
However, Wang Xinghe was still a little uneasy and tested the waters. “Does Lu Ming often hang out with my brother-in-law?”
“When you mention that…”
Lu Wang paid the parking fee and drove out of the underground parking lot.
The heat in the car was warm and cozy.
“When Brother Chen started his business, I followed him. My brother was in high school then, going through a rebellious phase, skipping school, hating studying, and even getting into fights. My work and life were a mess. One time, the school teacher called again, and it happened that Brother Chen and I were together, so we went to the school.”
“Compared to a rough guy like me, Brother Chen seems very good at coaxing kids. Gradually, my brother stopped hating school and started attending class properly. I asked Brother Chen to add my brother’s WeChat to help counsel him more often…”
“It’s also thanks to Brother Chen. Otherwise, that kid, forget this 211 university, he would be lucky not to drop out.”
After listening, Wang Xinghe’s heart felt a little more settled.
Perhaps he was being too sensitive. Everyone’s personality was different.
Lu Ming being affectionate towards his brother-in-law might just be because he saw him as an older brother.
He couldn’t just suspect that everyone liked men because he had been with a man.
Wang Xinghe bit his lip, suppressing the unwarranted speculation.
—
Chen Junsheng’s car did not drive to the school but to an hourly hotel room for couples.
As soon as the door closed, Lu Ming wrapped his arms around Chen Junsheng’s waist.
His voice was a bit haughty. “What? Your brother-in-law showed up, and you lost your nerve?”
“The night I turned eighteen, you F-ed me. Didn’t you have guts then, Uncle?”
Lu Ming hooked his tie, his eyes flickering, and his fingertips slid down his chest.
Chen Junsheng’s Adam’s apple bobbed from the enticement, and his eyes grew dangerous.
He slapped his butt. “Stop messing around. I have a meeting this afternoon. Be moderate.”
Lu Ming ignored him, hooked Chen Junsheng’s neck, and lightly kissed his lips.
“There’s time. Don’t you like me? Hmm?”
How could Chen Junsheng have much self-control? He returned the kiss to his soft, pink lips. “You little temptress.”
The two quickly tumbled together, embracing passionately.
Lu Wang and Wang Xinghe rushed back to the company after lunch.
As they entered the lobby, they saw a plump woman sitting on a side sofa.
The woman was dressed in designer clothes, carrying an LV bag, and her hair looked freshly washed, but she was quite heavy and her face looked exhausted.
Lu Wang, with his sharp eyes, spotted Wang Mingyue and quickly went forward to greet her. “Sister-in-law, what are you doing here?”
Wang Xinghe almost froze in place. This… was his sister?
She looked like a completely different person.
Wang Mingyue smiled at Lu Wang. “You go up first. I need to talk to Xinghe about something.”
“Alright, I’ll head up then.”
Wang Xinghe stood in place, looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar face.
He opened his mouth, but for a long time, he couldn’t utter a sound.
