- Chasing My Husband! The "Crown Prince" of the Beijing Circle Is Wildly Unruly!
- Chapter 11 - First Day of the New Year at Zhanqiao Pier
Wang Shuya proudly gave a thumbs-up, her eyes sparkling with a look of pure pride. “To be honest, my uncle is famous in our area for being incredibly handsome and charismatic.”
She waved her arms with exaggeration, as if painting a picture of a long line. “The line of girls who want to marry my uncle could stretch all the way from here to France.”
Lu Jingze raised his eyebrows slightly, a playful smile on his lips. “I absolutely believe that.”
“The game’s downloaded. I’ll invite your uncle to play in a bit.” Lu Jingze leaned against the dark red wooden chair, holding his phone sideways. His posture seemed casual, but his fingers were flying across the screen, showing he was a master.
As plates of steaming hot dishes were brought to the table, Wang Xinghe also sat down next to Wang Shuya, watching with interest as they were immersed in the world of the game.
“Wow! We won!” They were the champions, holding up the virtual trophy.
Wang Shuya was so excited she almost jumped. She shouted excitedly, “Brother Lu is amazing! He’s invincible! He took down thirty opponents by himself! He’s a legend!”
“How about another round?” she suggested, not wanting to stop.
Lu Jingze put his phone away. “Let’s eat first. Your uncle has already heated everything up.”
Wang Shuya had no choice but to obediently pick up her chopsticks.
“Wow, this pork knuckle is so tender! The stir-fried chicken is so fragrant, and the taro and sweet potato balls are delicious!”
Wang Xinghe and Lu Jingze were already full. They simply watched Wang Shuya eat.
Wang Shuya felt a little self-conscious with Lu Jingze watching her, and she slowed down her eating.
Wang Xinghe, however, was a little bored and kept flipping through channels, unable to find anything good. He eventually switched back to the New Year’s Gala.
After they finished eating, the three of them divided the work and cleaned up the tables and chairs.
They played a few more rounds of the game. It was past two in the morning, and Wang Shuya was starting to get sleepy. It was too late for her to walk home alone.
“How about I walk her back?” Lu Jingze offered.
“Let’s go together.” After all, she was his little niece.
“Okay.”
The three of them walked out of the noodle shop.
“Wow! It’s snowing!” Wang Shuya was more excited to see the snow than money.
She grabbed Wang Xinghe’s arm. “Uncle! Look! It’s snowing!”
Wang Xinghe held out his hand to catch the large snowflakes. “Yes. It’s not much different from usual.”
The three of them walked into the small road behind the commercial street that led to the village, facing the wind and snow. The snowflakes, illuminated by the streetlights, were like countless dancing spirits, adding a touch of romance to the quiet night.
The village streets were still bustling with people who were just returning from New Year’s visits. As soon as they saw figures in front of them, even without seeing their faces clearly, they would shout to Wang Xinghe and the others, “Guò nián hǎo áng.” This was a unique dialect of the Qingcheng countryside.
Wang Xinghe and Wang Shuya quickly replied, “Guò nián hǎo, guò nián hǎo.”
Lu Jingze was a little embarrassed. He couldn’t imitate the local accent and dialect. He just pursed his lips and tried not to laugh out loud.
After the group of people walked away, Lu Jingze finally burst into laughter.
“Pfft—is that a dialect?”
“It is. That’s how everyone in our village talks. I’ll imitate it for you.”
“That young man is truly handsome. Look at how tall he is, and how strong his body is,” Wang Shuya said, praising Lu Jingze in the local dialect.
“Pfft ha ha ha ha ha ha—” Lu Jingze roared with laughter. He never expected there to be such a down-to-earth dialect.
“Doesn’t it hurt your tongue to talk like that? Ha ha ha ha…”
Wang Shuya was also amused by his reaction. “Ha ha ha ha, we’re all used to it. Outsiders probably can’t get used to it at first, but you’ll get used to it.”
The corners of Wang Xinghe’s mouth curved slightly. He looked at the two of them laughing together, his eyes filled with doting affection.
When they reached Wang Shuya’s house, Wang Xinghe didn’t go in.
He just waved from the doorway. “Study hard and don’t just think about dating.”
“Nya, nya, nya~” Wang Shuya stuck out her tongue, a playful response.
“Brother Lu, Uncle, Happy New Year~ May all your wishes come true. I’m going in now~” Wang Shuya opened the door and went inside.
The two walked back together. The snow was getting heavier, but the wind had calmed down.
Lu Jingze reached out to catch the snowflakes, but an unpleasant memory surfaced in his mind.
When he was ten, he had been punished for breaking a tablet—his unworthy mother’s treasured possession. He was forced to kneel in the manor’s long corridor all night. If his beloved golden retriever hadn’t huddled up to him, he might have frozen to death that night.
Seeing that Lu Jingze’s expression was not good and his phoenix eyes were filled with hostility, Wang Xinghe stopped and looked back at him.
In the dim night, with large snowflakes falling, he held out his hand and took Lu Jingze’s.
The warmth of their palms transferred between them. Wang Xinghe said softly, “Happy New Year. May you always have peace. Aze, if you remember any unhappy memories, remember to tell me.”
Looking at those gentle, tea-colored eyes and that beautiful face, Lu Jingze’s heart suddenly felt a pang of pain. He gripped Wang Xinghe’s hand tightly.
“Happy New Year, brother. May you always have peace.”
Hand in hand, one of them noble and unrestrained, the other gentle and ascetic, they walked step by step, covered in snow, and disappeared into the snowy night.
After returning home, Lu Jingze couldn’t wait. He pinned Wang Xinghe against the wall and kissed him passionately.
The kiss was long, urgent, and filled with a hint of longing. He kissed him for a long, long time before stopping.
That night, Lu Jingze didn’t do anything else to Wang Xinghe except kiss him.
He just held him in bed, clinging to him.
It seemed that by being this close, he could feel more warmth and forget the coldness and despair of that night.
After a long while, the sound of Lu Jingze’s breathing came from the back of Wang Xinghe’s neck.
Wang Xinghe opened his eyes.
He stared blankly at the dim room.
This was the first time in four years that someone had spent the holidays with him.
In previous years, Wang Shuya wouldn’t have been able to knock on his shop door.
He wondered if he really deserved to start a new life.
Or, to put it another way: did he really have the qualifications and the ability to give Aze a long and happy future?
On the first day of the new year, they slept until the afternoon.
The sun was bright, and it shone on the warm bed through the gaps in the curtains.
Wang Xinghe yawned and stretched, suggesting, “Come on, get dressed. I’ll take you to the Zhanqiao Pier to feed the seagulls.”
Lu Jingze pulled him back, saying lazily, “I don’t want to go. Let’s sleep for a little longer.”
But Wang Xinghe was insistent. He pulled him up and helped him put on his clothes. “I’ll drive. You can sleep in the car. If you stay cooped up at home all day, you’ll grow mushrooms.”
Lu Jingze obediently cooperated and yawned again.
After putting on his shoes, he rested his chin on Wang Xinghe’s body, like a giant, hanging ornament.
At the pier, the sun was bright, but the wind was extremely strong.
Wang Xinghe went to a stall run by an old man and bought some dough sticks. He handed them to Lu Jingze.
Lu Jingze looked at the golden dough sticks in the white plastic bag, confused. “What? To eat?”
“Not for you to eat. They’re for the seagulls,” Wang Xinghe said, putting the dough sticks in his hand.
He also pulled the hood of Lu Jingze’s down jacket over his head and carefully adjusted his scarf and face mask.
“The wind is strong. Your wounds are only a little over a month old, so don’t take any risks.”
“Seagulls eat dough sticks?” Lu Jingze couldn’t quite believe it.
“You’ll see in a minute.”
On the first day of the new year, the Zhanqiao Pier was filled mostly with young people, taking photos and videos.
The two of them walked side by side, their handsome figures and faces attracting frequent glances.
They finally found an empty spot to stand, and just as Wang Xinghe was about to teach Lu Jingze how to feed the birds, two girls ran over.
One of them, who looked cute with a cat-ear headband, held up her phone and headed straight for Lu Jingze.
The other, who had a gentle and refined look, also bravely held up her phone and headed for Wang Xinghe.
The two of them seemed to be friends and spoke at the same time: “Handsome guys, can we get your contact info?”
