- Can You Believe It? I Ran into My Ex on a Dating Variety Show
- Chapter 14 - Not That Old, But Such Creative Ways to Play
It was truly exhausting.
Shi Yu recalled the days when he was together with He Xingzhi. Everything was good except for the fact that He Xingzhi had too much energy. When they were together, He Xingzhi had just reached adulthood. At such a vigorous age, his needs were far beyond those of an ordinary person. The hickeys on Shi Yu’s body never had the chance to fade. When filming his first television drama, Shi Yu never dared to take off his shirt.
The four of them returned to the villa with their purchases. He Xingzhi headed straight for the kitchen carrying the items he had bought, and Shi Yu followed behind. As they entered, they passed through the living room and briefly appeared in the live broadcast frame. The scheduled end time for the living room broadcast had not yet arrived, so it was still active. Before the group of shoppers returned, only the other four guests remained in the frame. Most of the people watching were fans of those specific individuals.
[Did I see that correctly? Were those two people who just drifted by He Xingzhi and Shi Yu?] [Why do they give off the vibe of a married couple in their daily life?] [Their visuals are truly a perfect match.]
There were also bullet comments interpreting the scene from different angles.
[Does Shi Yu not have hands? He let my Brother He carry so many things by himself.] [Is he some kind of young master? Look at Xiuxiu; he is the thinnest and smallest of all the guests, yet he worked hard to help carry things.] [What are you all talking about? The point is not that Shi Yu is not carrying things, but that He Xingzhi took on everything himself. He carried dinner for two and a lot of fruit.] [If I am not mistaken, I saw strawberries, grapes, and bananas. Those all seem to be the ones our Brother Shi likes to eat.] [This only proves that Shi Yu is selfish. He specifically picked out things he likes when shopping without considering others at all.] [I feel bad for my Brother He. Not only does he have to cook, but he also has to take care of Young Master Shi, haha.]
A brief argument broke out in the live broadcast room over the matter of carrying the items.
Shi Yu followed He Xingzhi into the kitchen. There were multi-angle cameras in the kitchen, so the cameraman did not need to follow them in. He Xingzhi opened the bags and took out the fish, shrimp, and meat to wash. After rinsing them, he immediately started cleaning the green vegetables. While busy, he even found the time to wash the grapes and strawberries, leaving them to soak in salt water.
Shi Yu felt a bit redundant in the kitchen, yet he did not leave. He tried to help many times, but every time he reached for something, He Xingzhi would grab it first. The result was that Shi Yu looked busy but was not actually helping at all.
In the production observation room, everyone stared at the screen.
“Did these two know each other before?” “I do not know.” “Where is the director?”
The director walked in while eating a boxed meal. After observing the monitor for a while, he said, “I do not know if they know each other either. I only sent them invitations with a let us see attitude. I did not expect both sides to agree. When I found out the result, I was no less shocked than you were.”
One was a mysterious big shot who rarely showed his face. The other was a “straight man” who never appeared on dating shows. Both of them had agreed at almost the same time.
“They look so in sync.” “Once this pair is broadcasted, I feel they will harvest a segment of couple fans.” “But will these two not clash in their roles?”
He Xingzhi casually handed the soaked and washed fruit to Shi Yu. “They are washed. Eat them.”
Shi Yu: “…”
He Xingzhi said stubbornly, “I am letting you taste them first to see if they are good. I am going to eat them once I am finished here.”
He Xingzhi prepared four dishes: steamed eight-treasure fish, steamed beef with loofah, steamed egg with seasonal vegetables and shrimp, and stir-fried seasonal vegetables. He worked quickly. By the time he was plating his dishes, Liu Xiuxiu was still busy. Liu Xiuxiu had three people assisting him, but because he was cooking for six people and making nine dishes, it took him twice as long as He Xingzhi.
When He Xingzhi carried the dishes out, Shi Yu finally found a task he could do. He scooped the rice and walked out with two bowls of white rice. The villa was very large and had two dining rooms. There were also two dining tables: a large one that could seat over a dozen people and a small one that could seat six at most. He Xingzhi bypassed the large one and walked to the small table to set down the food. Shi Yu had no choice but to follow.
They sat facing each other. The table between them was not large; if they stretched their legs even a little, they might accidentally brush against each other’s feet. Shi Yu had a fleeting feeling that time had returned to the past. In the large flat they used to live in, the indoor space was vast and had both large and small tables, but He Xingzhi always liked to choose the small table for meals. He used it as an opportunity to get touchy-feely. Sometimes, he would even intentionally cook for him while wearing only an apron, showing off the strong muscles he had developed from playing basketball frequently.
[He even crawled under the table once, and then I only saw mosaics.]
Shi Yu: “…” Back then, He Xingzhi was not that old, but his ways of playing were truly creative.
While eating, they both kept their heads down and ate quietly because of the cameras. By the time they finished and put down their chopsticks, they had not said a single word to each other. Shi Yu finished eating first. Following his old habit, He Xingzhi finished off all the leftovers. Between the two of them and the four dishes, they successfully finished everything.
Shi Yu said, “You made the meal, so I will wash the dishes.”
In the past, He Xingzhi could never bear to let him wash the dishes, but now that they were exes, why should he feel sorry for him?
“You should have been the one washing them anyway,” He Xingzhi snorted coldly. “Do not think that just because I cooked for you, I have forgiven you. I made this for myself; you are just an extra mouth.”
In the observation room, several young women stared at the monitor, ears pressed close to hear them speak.
“Ah! I knew they knew each other! Those words are so ambiguous.” “Is it possible they are talking about what happened at the airport? Did the photos of them not getting along at the airport not go viral?” “It seems they had an unpleasant time on the plane.” “I saw that photo. He Xingzhi was behind Shi Yu, and his face was indeed dark the whole time.” “There is also a photo of him staring at Shi Yu as he got into the car. That expression was terrifying.” “According to that, did Teacher Shi Yu offend Teacher He Xingzhi on the plane?” “Probably, though I cannot imagine the details. Teacher Shi Yu does not look like someone who would actively cause trouble. I would believe it more if He Xingzhi offended Shi Yu because of his bad temper.” “Aww, what a pity. The visuals of these two in the same frame are truly to die for.”
Shi Yu took the dishes to the kitchen to wash. He happened to run into Su Jingxi, who was carrying a large pile of bowls and chopsticks. Su Jingxi greeted Shi Yu enthusiastically. “Brother Shi, we are so fated. It is actually the two of us washing dishes together.”
Su Jingxi’s loud voice allowed those outside to hear his words. He Xingzhi crunched down on the candy in his mouth.
His eyes turned dark and menacing as he looked toward the two people washing dishes in the kitchen. Because it was an open kitchen, the kitchen was clearly visible from the living room, though it was far enough away that it was out of the live broadcast range.
