- Chapter 3 - The Immortal Sect's Darling (1) — How Dare You Commit an Offense Against Your Superior
Gu Qingyun’s handsome face bore a trace of exhaustion; his lips were pale, and he looked weathered by the passage of time.
As the heavenly tribulation approached, Gu Qingyun lacked the strength to resist it. He had originally thought that by going into seclusion to improve his cultivation, he would be able to withstand it somewhat. However, as the day of the tribulation drew near, his cultivation slowly ebbed away like a flowing stream.
Gu Qingyun looked at the weeping Ye Qianjue with tenderness, bending down slightly and speaking softly: “What is the matter? I have only been in seclusion for a few days, and you have cried until you look like this.”
Seeing the Master he had been longing for day and night, Ye Qianjue finally let go, throwing himself directly into Gu Qingyun’s embrace.
The little dumpling squirmed continuously in Gu Qingyun’s arms, complaining in his milky voice: “Master is a big liar! You promised to keep me company! But you ran off by yourself, and now I’m being bullied every single day!”
As he spoke, Ye Qianjue pointed suggestively toward the brother-sister duo, Bai Xiuzhu and Bai Fulan.
Both were caught off guard.
“We didn’t bully him!” the two said in unison, waving their hands frantically.
Bai Xiuzhu’s little face puffed up with anger. He glanced at the little troublemaker in Gu Qingyun’s arms, scaring Ye Qianjue into covering his own mouth.
Gu Qingyun took in the actions of the three children.
He coughed lightly and looked toward the siblings: “Xiuzhu, Fulan, which formation have you reached in your study of the Immortal-Slaying Formation incantations?”
Both Bai Xiuzhu and Bai Fulan were stunned, then scratched their heads in embarrassment, sheepishly replying: “Reporting to Master, we have reached the third formation…”
“Hmm.”
Gu Qingyun only offered a single “hmm,” which made the siblings glance at each other, a chill rising in their hearts.
Neither dared to meet Gu Qingyun’s eyes directly. They feared that elder-like gaze that seemed to pierce straight into the soul more than anything! If their respective masters found out their study progress was so slow, they would be in big trouble!
The two said in unison: “That… it seems we left something at the schoolhouse, Immortal Venerable Gu, we will be going now!”
Not daring to say another word to Gu Qingyun, they let the troublemaker Ye Qianjue off the hook, bowed, and hurried away.
“Finally gone.”
Ye Qianjue retracted his tears and looked triumphantly at the pair scurrying away in a wretched state.
Gu Qingyun knew at once that his little disciple had used another trick. He reached out and pinched Ye Qianjue’s cheeks, twisting them back and forth with a hint of jealousy.
“Ouch~ Master! Jue’er knows he was wrong~ it hurts so much…”
Ye Qianjue touched his cheeks, his eyes welling up with tears as he looked pitifully at Gu Qingyun.
“You know you were wrong? Then tell Master, where were you wrong?” Gu Qingyun lowered his head, looking at Ye Qianjue with great seriousness.
Where was he wrong?
Ye Qianjue pouted, feeling very unwilling.
“Qianjue just missed Master, so I intentionally led Senior Brother and Senior Sister here to draw Master out.” Ye Qianjue looked up at his Master, only to see him looking down with an expression of doting indulgence.
Seeing this, Ye Qianjue gathered his courage and continued: “I was wrong, but didn’t Master make a mistake, too?”
“Oh?”
Gu Qingyun found this version of Ye Qianjue quite interesting. He saw the tiny person holding his arm, refusing to stop puffing out his cheeks.
Gu Qingyun leaned in: “Then tell me, disciple, where was I wrong?”
Ye Qianjue took the initiative to hold his Master’s large hand, saying in a soft,糯 (sweet/sticky) voice: “Master promised to stay with me, why didn’t you keep your word… Jue’er missed Master so much, can Master please not go into this dark, gloomy hole?”
“If Master still wants to go in, can you take Jue’er with you?”
As he spoke, Ye Qianjue stuck to Gu Qingyun like an octopus, refusing to let go.
For the past five years, Gu Qingyun had personally raised Ye Qianjue. He was adept at managing major affairs, but when it came to this little disciple, he was always left in a fluster.
“Can Master please keep Jue’er company?”
Ye Qianjue looked at Gu Qingyun with wide, round eyes.
Gu Qingyun’s lips curled slightly into a smile visible only to Ye Qianjue, and he said warmly: “Very well. Where would you like me to accompany you?”
“The schoolhouse!” Ye Qianjue said without hesitation.
So that was it. Gu Qingyun understood.
Ye Qianjue was afraid that Wu Hengmu would blame him for being mischievous, so he used this as a way to find a backer. Even if Wu Hengmu disliked him, having an Immortal Venerable by his side would ensure he received a modicum of respect.
It seemed his disciple was calculating quite shrewdly.
Ye Qianjue bit his lip and opened his arms: “Master, hug”
Gu Qingyun picked Ye Qianjue up with practiced ease, and Ye Qianjue, completely unreserved, took the opportunity to kiss his immortal, ethereal Master.
The disciple was fleshy and soft, like a little bun very cute.
Gu Qingyun rode his sword, carrying Ye Qianjue all the way to the schoolhouse.
Ye Qianjue jumped down from Gu Qingyun’s embrace first, looking around cautiously. Only after confirming that Wu Hengmu was nowhere to be seen did he let out a breath.
“Great, the old man didn’t come to supervise today—”
“Ye Qianjue!”
A terrifying, booming voice rang out. Ye Qianjue trembled in fear, shrinking back into Gu Qingyun’s embrace like a turtle retreating into its shell.
Wu Hengmu was seen walking toward them with an aged, stern demeanor.
Ye Qianjue felt as if he were facing a great enemy. He tugged at Gu Qingyun’s clothes, casting him a desperate look for help.
Gu Qingyun understood perfectly.
“Senior Brother.” Gu Qingyun greeted Wu Hengmu first, and Ye Qianjue followed suit in a tiny voice: “Greetings, Immortal Venerable Wu…”
The voice was barely audible.
Wu Hengmu was not about to let this mischievous disciple go. Five years ago, he had let him live, but he never expected that Gu Qingyun would actually transfer the Demon Lord Ye Yuan’s inner core to Ye Qianjue!
Regret was useless now.
Wu Hengmu snorted heavily.
“Junior Brother! This wretch went to the Water Cave again to disturb your cultivation!” Wu Hengmu looked at little Ye Qianjue with sharp, piercing eyes.
“You aren’t studying properly; why do you go to the Water Cave? Do you think your Master lives too long”
“Senior Brother!” Gu Qingyun’s expression tightened.
“Junior Brother! You… Senior Sister and I have already lost the fate of ascension; my murderous intent is too heavy, and Su Hanshan’s obsession is too deep. You are the only one with hope! You have always been naturally talented, with magic power far exceeding ours!”
Wu Hengmu looked at Ye Qianjue thoughtfully, speaking with earnest sincerity: “Some tribulations cannot be avoided; if you delay further, it will be beyond saving! The seal of the Demon-Suppressing Tower has loosened—I already know; I went to set up a new barrier earlier to prevent the Demon Lord from having a chance to escape. Matters have come to this; that is all I have to say!”
Wu Hengmu looked at Ye Qianjue, his anger rising again, and snorted heavily.
“Why does Immortal Venerable Wu keep snorting? He seems to hate me. Also, where is the Demon-Suppressing Tower? Who is the Demon Lord inside? Can I go see him?”
“If you have so many questions, you might as well recite the incantations a few more times.”
Gu Qingyun patted Ye Qianjue’s head and sent him into the schoolhouse.
A moment later, Gu Qingyun appeared before the Demon-Suppressing Tower. He saw that the chains holding the demons were loose, and the monsters inside had begun to stir.
Descending to the bottom of the tower, lava bubbled endlessly, and white, bleached bones lay everywhere underfoot.
“Gu Qingyun! How do you have the free time to see me? Is it because you feel your magic power fading? Can’t this broken tower trap me anymore, and now you’re afraid?”
Ever since he was locked under the tower, Ye Yuan had maintained the form of a miniature Qiongqi.
He moved his heavy body and roared toward Gu Qingyun. The massive wind stirred the tower, sending lava splashing and spewing out.
Gu Qingyun frowned slightly and said coldly: “Noisy.”
Then, he turned and left.
Still the same stuck-up temper, always acting high and mighty. A gentleman on the outside, but his heart is blacker than ours in the Demon race!
Ye Yuan let out a cold laugh, and a wisp of his soul escaped the Demon-Suppressing Tower.
The Demon-Suppressing Tower was located on Baxian Peak, managed by Su Hanshan. A gust of wind swept through the bamboo forest, and a scruffy little black puppy appeared.
“Damnable! These five years in the Demon-Suppressing Tower, without my inner core, my magic power has been greatly reduced. I can only maintain the shape of a little beast for now…”
Ye Yuan wandered through the forest aimlessly.
The little puppy kept yapping along the way: “Right now, I am no match for Gu Qingyun; I must retrieve my inner core! As long as I find a way to return to Feixian Peak and regain my inner core! I can kill Gu Qingyun! Bloodbath the human and immortal realms!”
With a perfect plan, Ye Yuan kept yapping, stumbling all the way down the mountain.
Coincidentally, Ye Qianjue was busy looking for his way, so the one person and one dog who weren’t watching where they were going collided in the woods.
“Ouch~ that hurts…” Ye Qianjue rubbed his backside. “Who walks without watching where they are going! Can’t you see someone is there?”
“Awoo awoo! Awoo!”
(You blind little wretch! How dare you bump into this Venerable!)
Ye Qianjue took a closer look it was actually a little milk puppy! Its eyes were black, bright, and sparkling it was so beautiful!
Two pairs of black, sparkling eyes stared at each other, and for a moment, breathing stopped. Ye Yuan looked at the child in confusion where would a child come from near the Demon-Suppressing Tower?
Ye Qianjue seemed to have discovered a new continent!
“Puppy puppy! It’s a puppy~” Ye Qianjue said, gathering Ye Yuan into his embrace.
“You wretched thing! How dare you commit an offense against your superior!”
“Mm~ puppy~ a fluffy puppy, Master will definitely like it~” Ye Qianjue kissed the puppy on the forehead, hugging it dearly in his arms.
Master?
Ye Yuan felt as if he had just heard this milky-voiced brat call someone “Master”… could it be Gu Qingyun!
Truly effortless to obtain!
He licked Ye Qianjue’s cheek to fawn over him, making Ye Qianjue giggle with laughter.
Looking at the child before him, a flawless idea suddenly popped into Ye Yuan’s mind!
Since this child was Gu Qingyun’s disciple, as long as he followed him, he could sneak into Gu Qingyun’s side and wait for his chance.
When that time came, the inner core, Gu Qingyun, and even the entire Feixian Peak would be easily within his grasp!
Ye Qianjue rubbed Ye Yuan’s head, then placed him on the ground and took out a homemade map.
The map was spread flat on the ground. Ye Yuan curiously stepped forward.
“Demon-Suppressing Tower? This Venerable just escaped from that godforsaken place, yet you are looking for it.”
Ye Yuan looked at the little milk-brat in confusion.
He had stayed in that tower for a full five years, and he was bored to death! Inside, there was nothing but monsters and demons; nothing fun to do.
At this moment, Ye Qianjue clenched his small fists with anticipation, his voice excited: “I’ll be able to see the Demon Lord very soon!”
Ye Yuan’s expression changed, and he looked at Ye Qianjue.
So, there is still someone in this world who remembers me, even if it is only a wet-behind-the-ears child.
How interesting.
