- Chapter 78 - Danger Descends Upon the Beast Forest
Xiu Ka slowly stepped into the garden, his gaze falling upon the two figures locked in an embrace. A bitter smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Hearing the sound, Mi Yue quickly broke free from Claude’s arms and turned to face Xiu Ka, her eyes filled with worry and apology.
“Xiu Ka, why are you here? How have you been these past two days? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
Her rapid-fire questions revealed her deep concern for him.
Xiu Ka’s gaze softened as it rested on Mi Yue, and he replied gently, “I’m fine. I was just worried about you. Seeing you safe puts my mind at ease.”
Mi Yue let out a sigh of relief before adopting a serious expression. “Xiu Ka, I’ve found a way to detoxify the poison, but I need to find birch trees. Do you know where any grow?”
Upon hearing this, Claude’s expression instantly darkened. “Birch trees only grow in the Beast Forest. That place is far too dangerous, even males with Purple-tier strength wouldn’t dare venture there lightly.”
“The Beast Forest? Even if it’s dangerous, I have to go. It’s the only way to cure the poison. I must go.”
Seeing her determination, Xiu Ka immediately spoke up. “In that case, Yue, I’ll go with you. After all, I’m the one who was poisoned, and you’re risking yourself for my sake. I can’t let you go to the Beast Forest alone.”
However, Mi Yue firmly refused his request.
“No, you can’t go. Your body hasn’t fully recovered yet, you’d only be a burden. Besides, have you forgotten? I’m under the protection of the Beast God and have the power of lightning to defend myself. I’ll be fine.”
As she spoke, she deliberately patted her chest to emphasize her confidence.
Claude also chimed in, trying to persuade her. “Let me go to the Beast Forest instead. This whole situation started because of Vasali, I should take responsibility. Mi Yue, don’t worry. I’ll definitely bring back the birch sap for you.”
“No need. I can go alone. If either of you come, you’ll just slow me down.”
Claude suddenly recalled how Mi Yue had once used lightning to attack Sala. Perhaps the little female truly was blessed by the Beast God, maybe even stronger than him.
With that thought, he stopped trying to dissuade her. After getting a rough idea of the Beast Forest’s location, Mi Yue set off immediately.
Her system space still contained food and water she had stockpiled earlier, so she didn’t need to prepare anything extra.
As she passed through the gates of Lion City and continued forward, she remained unaware that a figure was quietly following her.
At the edge of the Beast Forest.
The moment Mi Yue stepped into the Beast Forest, she could sense the dangerous aura permeating the surroundings.
The towering trees stretched into the sky, their dense foliage blocking most of the sunlight, casting the entire forest in an eerie and mysterious gloom.
She took a deep breath, steadying herself as she prepared for whatever might come next.
But just as she was about to venture deeper into the forest, a familiar voice suddenly rang out beside her.
“Mi Yue, wait!”
She spun around to see Claude standing not far away, his face wearing the same gentle, jade-like smile as always.
“Claude? Why did you follow me? You’re the lord of Lion City, you can’t afford to take risks. You should have stayed in the city!” she demanded, a hint of anger in her voice.
Though she was still upset about how Claude had spoiled Vasali, she knew her anger was misplaced and unreasonable.
Unfazed, Claude slowly approached, his gaze tender as he looked at Mi Yue.
“Because I didn’t want you to face the danger alone.”
Mi Yue snorted coldly, deliberately speaking with a hint of annoyance. “If something were to happen to you, wouldn’t the city lord position you worked so hard to secure just fall into someone else’s hands? How foolish.”
Claude pulled Mi Yue into his arms and whispered soothingly, “Nothing is more important than you. Even if I had to give up the city lord position and leave with you, I’d be willing.”
Hearing this, Mi Yue felt a surge of complex emotions in her heart.
She was moved by Claude’s deep affection and willingness to sacrifice, yet also angry because his indulgence of Vasali had led to this outcome.
Every evil deed Vasali had committed today was inextricably linked to Claude.
If Claude hadn’t spoiled Vasali rotten, she would never have poisoned Xiu Ka.
And Mi Yue herself wouldn’t have had to venture into this forest to search for the antidote.
Unable to hold back, she punched Claude lightly, but then immediately softened.
“I’m furious, but since you’re being so sincere, I’ll forgive you this time.” she said.
Mi Yue thought to herself, what could she do? Claude was her “feeding target” after all.
Her survival depended on his gratitude and virtue points. She couldn’t afford to stay angry when her own life was at stake, and besides, she was just venting her frustration.
“If something like this happens again, I won’t forgive you.” she said, half-joking and half-serious.
Seeing this, Claude quickly rubbed Mi Yue’s small frame in his arms and coaxed her gently, “Yes, I know I was wrong. When we have a little daughter, I’ll make sure to raise her properly and keep her from going astray.”
Mi Yue shot him a reproachful glare. “Who said anything about having a daughter with you?” Since when had Claude learned to be so mischievous?
Claude chuckled and held her even tighter.
Leaning against Claude’s chest, Mi Yue felt his strong heartbeat and the warmth of his embrace, filling her with an unprecedented sense of security and determination.
No matter how rough the road ahead might be, she knew that as long as they stood together, they could overcome any hardship.
“Fine, if that’s the case, then you’re coming on this adventure with me. But let me make one thing clear, you’re following my lead the whole way.”
Claude gazed at her adoringly. “Alright, I promise. As long as it makes you happy.”
As the two ventured deeper into the heart of the Beast Forest, the surrounding silence gradually gave way to an inexplicable tension.
The trees grew denser, almost completely blotting out the sunlight, leaving only scattered patches of light dancing on the ground.
Mi Yue and Claude walked side by side, their unspoken trust enough to carry them forward.
Yet they remained unaware that from the moment they had stepped into this forest, a pair of crimson eyes had been silently watching them from behind.
It was one of the overlords of the Beast Forest, the Purple-Grade Giant Python, Elfman, a being of unfathomable power.
But for now, he seemed in no hurry to strike, merely observing the two intruders in silence.
After a difficult search, the two finally found the legendary birch tree hidden in a secluded valley.
Tall and straight, its lush branches and leaves shimmered with a faint glow, as if brimming with boundless vitality.
Claude carefully climbed the trunk and used a special tool to collect the sap from its branches.
The sap was crystal clear, exuding a delicate fragrance, precisely the antidote they had come for.
“We did it.” Mi Yue excitedly divided the liquid into two portions, handing one to Claude. “We’ll each take half, just in case.”
Claude accepted the liquid with a glimmer of admiration in his eyes, thinking Mi Yue was quite clever.
“Alright, don’t worry. I’ll definitely protect this portion.”
“Then let’s hurry back. Xiu Ka’s poison won’t wait much longer.”
“Right.”
Mi Yue immediately grabbed Claude’s hand, ready to return to Lion City.
But unexpectedly, they disturbed the surrounding horde of magical beasts.
In an instant, roars and howls erupted one after another, turning the entire valley into what seemed like an arena.
