- Chapter 77 - Finding a Modern Solution to the Poison
Li Xiangyang’s voice was low and firm, each word laced with dissatisfaction and skepticism toward Xing Chi’s actions.
His gaze fell on Mi Yue, who sat on the stool looking visibly uneasy. His eyes held both reproach and concern.
Mi Yue bit her lower lip lightly, a flicker of complex emotions flashing in her eyes as she tried to keep her voice steady.
“He… he just went away on a trip. There are some things he needs to handle. He’ll be back in a while.”
Her tone was filled with unwavering trust in Xing Chi.
She couldn’t explain that Xing Chi was currently in the Inner Sea, that his true identity was a beastman from the Beast World, a secret she could never reveal.
“A trip? More like he ran away,” Li Xiangyang sneered, his voice dripping with scorn and anger.
His mind was filled with images of Xing Chi turning into a scumbag, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
Seeing Li Xiangyang so furious, Mi Yue could only try to placate him. “Brother Xiangyang, please believe me. Xing Chi really didn’t run away. Don’t be so angry, it’s not good for your health.”
Li Xiangyang looked at her with exasperation, as if she were a hopeless case. He jabbed her forehead with his finger, then immediately softened, torn between frustration and worry that he might have hurt her.
“You know how to care about me? Then why don’t you care about yourself?”
“You’re pregnant now, how can I not be angry?”
His hands clenched into fists as he struggled to control his emotions.
“Give me his contact information. I’ll ask him myself.”
Mi Yue shook her head. “He… he doesn’t have a phone.”
“What? No phone?” Li Xiangyang’s expression darkened further.
He thought Mi Yue was just making excuses to protect Xing Chi. Who in this day and age couldn’t even afford a phone?
He abruptly turned and strode toward the door, grabbing his coat before coldly throwing out, “No. You’re coming with me right now. We’re going back to the villa.”
Mi Yue froze, then quickly stood up, trying to explain. “But I’m still waiting for the test results on the poisoned blood. It’s really important, ”
“I’ll tell you when the results come in.”
Li Xiangyang’s tone brooked no argument. He forcefully pulled Mi Yue to the door and, ignoring her protests, bundled her into the car.
The car sped away, leaving behind an unfinished conversation and a room filled with silence.
Back at the villa, the atmosphere grew tense.
Li Xiangyang personally cooked a lavish lunch, every dish tailored to Mi Yue’s tastes.
He sat across from her, watching as she took small bites of the food, his eyes brimming with tenderness and satisfaction.
“Brother Xiangyang, you really don’t have to take care of me like this. I can manage on my own.” Mi Yue finally spoke up, trying to break the awkward silence.
Li Xiangyang smiled faintly and continued serving her more food. “With Xing Chi gone, I can’t rest easy. As your brother, of course I have to look after you. And I want you to know that no matter what happens, you’re not alone.”
At the mention of Xing Chi, Mi Yue’s heart tightened.
She lowered her head, unable to meet Li Xiangyang’s gaze, her voice barely above a whisper. “Ugh, I knew it would be like this. I shouldn’t have come to you.”
“What did you say?” Li Xiangyang narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing her carefully with a stern expression.
Mi Yue quickly buried her head in her meal, a smile on her face. “No, no, I didn’t say anything. Brother Xiangyang, your cooking is so delicious. You’re really amazing!”
Li Xiangyang didn’t say anything more, silently adding food to her plate, a faint trace of bitterness flickering in his eyes.
He knew Mi Yue’s heart had always belonged to Xing Chi, but he was willing to silently protect her until the day she truly saw him.
Time flew like a fleeting steed, and in the blink of an eye, it was already the afternoon of the next day.
The toxicology expert arrived, bringing shocking discoveries about the poisoned blood. Mi Yue and Li Xiangyang hurried to the hospital.
“President Mi, President Xiangyang, this is an extremely rare toxin derived from the sap of an ancient birch tree. The only way to neutralize it is to find this specific birch tree and extract the sap from its branches as an antidote.”
Li Xiangyang immediately stood up, ready to personally search for this legendary ancient birch tree. “Mi Yue, I’ll handle this. You focus on resting and don’t go running around.”
But Mi Yue firmly shook her head. “Brother Xiangyang, there’s no need. I’ve already troubled you too much during this time. You should have your own life too. I can handle this myself.”
Li Xiangyang grew furious. “How can you handle it while pregnant? If anything happens, how am I supposed to explain it to my godfather?”
Having been supported by his godfather and having grown up with Mi Yue since childhood, he believed her affairs were his own. As long as their relationship didn’t sour, they would remain family.
And that meant he had the right to look after her.
Mi Yue took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. “I’ll be careful. Besides, I have my own ways. Brother Xiangyang, you don’t need to worry.”
“No matter what you say, I won’t allow it. Stay put at the hillside villa and rest properly. I’ve already hired a nanny to take care of your daily needs,” Li Xiangyang said sternly.
Seeing his unyielding attitude, Mi Yue could only sigh. “Alright, alright. Then I’ll trouble you, Brother Xiangyang.”
“I’ll go to the restroom first, and then we’ll head back.”
Using the restroom as an excuse, Mi Yue took out her phone in the bathroom and traveled back to the Beast World.
Li Xiangyang waited outside the restroom for a long time, but Mi Yue never reappeared.
Growing increasingly anxious, he quickly called a nurse. “Please go in and check if Miss Mi is alright.”
But when the nurse returned, her face was filled with disbelief.
“President Xiangyang, there’s no one inside.”
Li Xiangyang instantly realized Mi Yue had tricked him.
Furious, he dialed her number repeatedly, but no one answered.
Standing in the hospital corridor, he stared out the window at the lush greenery, overwhelmed with helplessness and anger.
What was Mi Yue hiding from him?
The sky in the Beast World remained vast and deep blue, sunlight filtering through the clouds and dappling every corner of Lion City.
Lion City, the City Lord’s garden.
Claude stood bare-chested, his well-defined muscles glistening, his eyes filled with urgency.
He paced back and forth along the garden path, occasionally glancing into the distance as if waiting for something.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared at the edge of his vision. He froze, disbelief and joy flashing in his eyes.
“Mi Yue, you’re finally back.”
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. Where have you been? I was so worried.”
Claude stepped forward and pulled Mi Yue, who had just appeared, into a tight embrace, his voice trembling slightly.
Mi Yue was caught off guard by Claude’s sudden hug.
But she quickly sensed the deep worry and affection in his gesture, warmth flooding her heart.
She gently patted Claude’s back and smiled softly. “Don’t worry, I’m fine. I just went to find the antidote for Xiu Ka.”
Just as the two were lost in the joy of their reunion, a deep, magnetic voice sounded from nearby, shattering the peaceful moment.
“Seems I came at a bad time.”
