- Billionaire’s Journey into the Beast World, Suitors Compete to Be Fed by Her!
- Chapter 29 - The Awkwardness of Family Reunion
Ma Ya pouted, refusing to believe it.
Bu Tai shook his head helplessly and could only voice his thoughts.
Only after hearing him out did Ma Ya reluctantly accept the fact that Xiu Ka would be staying at their house temporarily.
…
On the bustling street, a male with ice-blue hair walked slowly, holding the hand of a young female.
The blue-haired male had deep blue eyes, and his blue-tier strength was exceptionally rare in Tiger City.
Though the young female had the unpopular jet-black hair, her appearance was striking, her cascading locks flowed elegantly, and her porcelain-like skin glowed under the warm sunlight.
The two of them were such a dazzling presence that they attracted many gazes.
Being stared at by so many people made Mi Yue uncomfortable. She tugged at her hand but failed to free it, so she whispered, “Can we keep a lower profile?”
Xing Chi’s eyes were as deep as a pool, his brows relaxed and brimming with satisfaction and pride.
“What’s there to hold back when I’m taking my little female for a stroll? Don’t worry, with me here, no one would dare to mess with you.”
Mi Yue: “…” Was that what I was worried about?
Thankful for her strong will, she quickly accepted reality.
She then began quietly observing the goods sold along the street, mostly animal pelts and hunted prey, with the occasional rare pottery.
Curious, Mi Yue stepped forward and asked, “How much is this?”
The middle-aged male vendor, seeing her interest, enthusiastically introduced, “This is an earthen jar I brought from Beast City. Only one orange crystal bead.”
“Compared to stone pots, this jar is lightweight and easy to carry. You can boil water or cook meat soup in it, and it’s also great for storing water.”
Mi Yue did some quick mental math:
100 orange crystal beads = 1 yellow crystal bead
10,000,000 orange crystal beads = 100 blue crystal beads
Good grief, she’d have to sell ten million (10,000,000) earthen jars to earn 100 blue crystal beads, the entry requirement for Beast City.
And 10,000 blue crystal beads were needed for just 1 merit point, which meant 10 billion orange crystal beads (or earthen jars) for a single merit point.
As for how much 100 merit points would cost, she didn’t even want to calculate anymore.
The result was just too staggering.
But then again, extending one’s life wasn’t supposed to be easy.
The fact that something as priceless as life could be bought with crystal beads at all was already a bargain for her.
Mi Yue continued browsing and soon stopped at a crowded stall.
The vendor was selling fruits of mediocre quality but at a steep price.
“1 red crystal bead for 10 fruits! Limited stock, grab them while you can!”
She counted the fruits on display, only about thirty or so. The quantity truly was scarce.
“Bro, I’ve got 50 broken crystal beads. How about we pool together and split a batch?” one male suggested to another.
Several other males were also teaming up to buy shares. The crystal beads they held were of mixed colors, not pure like crystal or diamond, but of even lower quality than red crystal beads.
“The fruit market is this good?”
Xing Chi smiled faintly. “Naturally. Most fruit trees grow deep in the mountains. Either wild beasts eat them, or nearby tribes pick them clean. Very few ever make it into the cities.”
“In Tiger City, they’re sold for red crystal beads, but in distant Beast City, they’d likely go for orange crystal beads, or even be sold by the piece.”
Mi Yue suddenly understood why Bu Tai had used fruits to entertain Xing Chi, it turned out they were still considered luxury items.
In that case, she could sell fruits too. Modern fruits were much sweeter than the ugly, unappealing ones in the Beast World.
After walking around for a while, she realized that to earn crystal beads, she needed to sell things that were rare in the Beast World.
The beastmen in the city were no longer satisfied with just filling their stomachs with prey, they had begun pursuing a higher quality of life.
So, she had a general direction now, selling fruits!!!
By the time the sky darkened, Mi Yue and Xing Chi leisurely returned to Bu Tai’s home.
As soon as they arrived at the stone house, they were led by a beast servant to the dining hall, where Bu Tai and Ma Ya were already waiting.
Inside the room were also five unfamiliar males and a young female, their features resembling Xiu Ka’s, likely his brothers and sister.
“Lord Xing Chi, this is my eldest son, Ya Ge, my second son, Bu Lang…”
“And my youngest daughter, Ge Lia. She’ll be coming of age in another month.” Bu Tai eagerly introduced them, subtly signaling his children with his eyes.
The five males greeted them with humble attitudes.
The youngest among them, Ma Qi, was about ten years old, but his hair was a deep indigo, already indicating Green-level strength.
The young female, Ge Lia, gazed at Xing Chi with tender, emerald-green eyes full of affection.
Mi Yue smirked playfully.
Noticing this, Xing Chi pinched her hand lightly, his expression aloof and unapproachable.
Undeterred, Ge Lia spoke softly, “Lord Xing Chi, the roasted meat is ready. Shall we eat?”
On a table made of logs, several roasted prey had been laid out.
Mi Yue glanced around but didn’t see Xiu Ka or Wu Er. She gave Xing Chi a meaningful look.
Xing Chi understood but had no intention of intervening.
Mi Yue tugged lightly at his arm, her beautiful eyes pleading.
Xing Chi tapped his lips with a finger, taking the opportunity to demand a reward.
Mi Yue had no choice but to nod secretly in agreement.
Satisfied, Xing Chi raised a brow and turned to Ma Ya. “It seems you aren’t very welcoming toward your father and your son.”
Ma Ya’s smile froze for a moment. “Of course not. I’ve already sent a beast servant to fetch them. They’ll be here soon.”
Xing Chi said nothing more and pulled Mi Yue down to sit with him.
Half a quarter later, Xiu Ka and Wu Er were brought in by the beast servant.
Xiu Ka’s expression was solemn as he surveyed the room full of strangers who shared his blood, his so-called “family.”
Wu Er, meanwhile, narrowed his eyes and walked up to the young male with indigo hair. His thin, wrinkled hands trembled as he touched the young man’s face.
“Ya Ge, right? You’ve grown up. So good, and so strong now.”
Ya Ge frowned, searching his memory for a long moment before vaguely recalling something.
“You are… Grandfather?”
In the Beast World, there weren’t many formalities. Whether it was the father’s or mother’s side, grandparents were simply called “Grandfather” or “Grandmother.”
“Yes, it’s me. This is your younger brother, Xiu Ka. You were there when he was born, do you remember?”
Ya Ge shook his head. “No, I don’t.”
Ma Ya had no patience for this family reunion. Impatiently, she said, “Sit down. Everyone’s been waiting for you on empty stomachs.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking.” Wu Er wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and quickly complied.
As the lady of the house, Ma Ya was responsible for distributing the meat. The best parts of the prey were the belly and the firm meat from the thighs.
She thoughtfully gave the meat from these two parts to Xing Chi, while the rest would be distributed to her mates and cubs in turn.
Mi Yue, benefiting from Xing Chi’s favor, received the neck meat, which was rich in fat and had a pleasant texture.
She turned to look at Xiu Ka and Wu Er, who had been given the prey’s shanks. The bony shanks had little meat to offer, and aside from being bulky and tough to chew, they had no other merits.
These lean shanks clearly couldn’t satisfy the appetite of grown males.
Silently, Mi Yue pushed a large portion of the roasted meat in front of her toward Xiu Ka and Wu Er.
Xiu Ka’s hand on the table clenched into a tight fist, his eyes darkening with emotion.
She smiled sweetly, thinking to herself, (Go ahead and eat, I still have bread, I won’t starve.)
Xing Chi, unhappy to see the little female smiling at Xiu Ka, abruptly shoved all the roasted meat in front of him toward Xiu Ka.
His voice was icy with suppressed anger, “Eat, eat… take it all.”
Then, while everyone else sat stunned, he took Mi Yue’s hand and openly led her out of the dining hall.
