Becoming the Yandere Omega's Fluffy Pet - Chapter 57
Chapter 57
Perhaps even Ming Siyu herself couldn’t provide a clear answer.
The airport departure lounge in the early morning was much quieter than during the day; loneliness and bewilderment swept over her once again. The red lights on both sides of the runway paved a path that seemed to stretch to the end of the world without an end in sight. In a little while, she would be flying from one of those paths to another city.
If only emotions were as clear and straightforward as an airport runway. Even if one couldn’t see the end in the dark of night, one could still guess the direction it led.
The film and television shooting base was in City B. Liu Ran went directly to the site to understand the situation; she had left in a hurry without luggage and didn’t even need to stop at the hotel first.
Before she came, Secretary Lin had told her roughly how to handle it. While communicating with the crew, she had the appraisal experts she’d contacted in advance check whether the building really had problems as the crew claimed. An actor was injured by wood splinters from an ancient-style building during a scene with explosions.
The production team believed that the temporary explosion props they prepared shouldn’t have affected the original base building and that the building itself had quality issues; the film base side believed the production team didn’t follow regulations for the explosion, affecting the base’s structures.
It wasn’t a particularly large dispute. Secretary Lin mainly wanted Liu Ran to accumulate experience in handling different accidents, as she might encounter all sorts of situations in the future.
The appraisal took time. Liu Ran basically shuttled between the hotel and the shooting base, taking time to select a few nursing homes as alternatives for Bai Yu’s transfer.
In her spare time, she looked at her phone; Ming Siyu hadn’t called her once, nor had she sent a single message.
Liu Ran couldn’t help but wonder: Was Ming Siyu really so angry with her? So angry that she didn’t want to care about her anymore? Did she want to throw her away?
Then again, she felt that Ming Siyu wasn’t the type of person to give up halfway.
If Ming Siyu had called her, she would have had a basis to infer Ming Siyu’s current attitude. But there was nothing.
Secretary Lin contacted her to ask how the matter was being handled. After Liu Ran explained the situation, she couldn’t resist asking, “Secretary Lin, President Ming is currently…”
“Don’t ask me that,” Secretary Lin said, unable to help. “I really can’t guess what President Ming is thinking right now, and I haven’t had a chance to see her. President Ming hasn’t mentioned you to me again at all.”
Liu Ran was even more at a loss as to what Ming Siyu was thinking.
Hanging up the phone, she gave herself a punch in frustration and helplessness. Things had already reached this point, so why was she still worrying about Ming Siyu? Let Ming Siyu think whatever she wanted; she certainly wasn’t going to give her any “good fruit” to eat.
She also had to make some preparations so as not to just sit and wait for death. But what preparations could she make? Did she have the ability to retaliate against Ming Siyu?
A thought popped into her mind: Escape.
Escape far away, to a place where she would never see Ming Siyu again. This was currently the only plan with a relatively high degree of feasibility.
But she was also unwilling to just run away like that. Ming Siyu was the one who did something wrong, so why should she be the one to run?
Once again returning to the hotel at twilight, an uninvited guest arrived: Ming Siwei.
This time it was no coincidence. Ming Siwei had come specifically to find her.
Seated in the hotel coffee shop, Ming Siwei got straight to the point:
“Director Shen, Shen Yunhe was your mother. Your mother is named Bai Yu, and she is currently at the Huaici Nursing Home. I’m not wrong, am I, Liu Ran? Or would it be more appropriate to call you Shen Liuran?”
Liu Ran was startled.
She didn’t answer, silently locking eyes with Ming Siwei, waiting for what came next. It seemed her previous lie hadn’t fooled Ming Siwei; Ming Siwei didn’t believe she was doing it to share Ming Siyu’s worries, but instead became suspicious of her identity.
“My sister is taboo about mentioning that incident, and since so much time has passed and everything has almost settled, why would she show concern about it in front of others?” Ming Siwei explained immediately. “Even if that were the case, my sister loves you so much; she wouldn’t be willing to let you get involved in that kind of mess. So after we met last time, I investigated you a bit.”
“I’m sorry,” Ming Siwei apologized to Liu Ran solemnly. “For having hurt your mother once.”
Since Ming Siwei could come all this way to find her, it meant she was 100% certain of her identity, and there was no need for Liu Ran to pretend she wasn’t Shen Yunhe’s daughter anymore.
Looking at that face that bore some resemblance to Ming Siyu’s, the grief and indignation in Liu Ran’s heart surged out like a river breaking a levee.
“Is an apology useful?” she choked out excitedly. “My mother is already dead!”
As soon as she spoke, Liu Ran suddenly thought of another layer: Ming Siwei would never come all this way just for a simple apology. There must be another purpose. Ming Siwei was a member of the Ming family; from the Ming family’s perspective, they would definitely want her to shut up forever.
Swallowing the bitterness in her throat, Liu Ran tried to flatten her tone: “You came to find me for something else. Just say it.”
“Aran, don’t be excited, listen to me slowly. The incident happened several years ago; all we can do now is apologize and compensate.” Ming Siwei had a strained smile on her face, her tone full of negotiation. “The way my sister handled things back then was indeed problematic; I apologize to you on her behalf.
These past few days, I’ve also put myself in your shoes; since you know my sister once hurt your mother, I guess your heart must be full of grievance and resentment, and perhaps you’ve even started thinking of ways to seek revenge, to retaliate against her as much as possible.”
Liu Ran said coldly, “Since you’ve guessed that, why don’t you go tell her?”
“Because I want to persuade you not to do that,” Ming Siwei advised slowly. “You can’t beat her. If I can find out about your past and true identity, my sister certainly can too. She doesn’t know you’re Director Shen’s daughter now only because she hasn’t looked into it yet. When she becomes suspicious and investigates, and everything is clear, how do you think she will deal with you?”
“Are you trying to make me pretend I don’t know anything?”
“Of course not, that would be too unfair to you. I also bear responsibility for what happened to your mother; I didn’t stop my sister in time, so…”
Ming Siwei took out a check and pushed it in front of Liu Ran. “Here is twenty million, as my compensation to you. Use this money to escape, escape to a place where my sister can’t find you. The rest will be enough for you and your mother. If you think it’s too little, I can add more.”
Ming Siwei’s idea coincided with her own. Leave Ming Siyu. With the support of this twenty million, escaping would become much smoother.
But there was one thing she didn’t understand.
“Ming Siyu is your sister. Why are you helping me?”
Ming Siwei gave a bitter smile. “To be honest, I’m actually doing this to help my sister. I don’t approve of her style of doing things, but she is my sister, and I don’t have much of a say, so I can only follow her lead. But I understand that many of her methods are problematic and will backfire sooner or later. I hope that by compensating the people she has hurt, I can offset their resentment towards her.”
Liu Ran was skeptical of Ming Siwei’s words. At the same time, the last bit of expectation she had for Ming Siyu died; not only did she think Ming Siyu wouldn’t apologize for her mistakes, even Ming Siwei felt that way, which was why she was apologizing on Ming Siyu’s behalf.
Ming Siwei had always been quite gentle to her, and her impression of Ming Siwei wasn’t bad. If Ming Siyu was the principal offender, Ming Siwei was at most an accomplice.
“I won’t tell my sister about your situation for the time being, to give you time to consider. But I don’t want to lie to you, Aran; no matter what, Ming Siyu is my sister, my only sister. Even if she is guilty of terrible crimes, I will stand by her side. If you do something to hurt her, I will not forgive you.”
Having said all she needed to say, Ming Siwei stood up and finally said, “Aran, think about your future, think about your mother.”
It sounded like advice. It also sounded like a threat.
After Ming Siwei left, Liu Ran picked up the check and sat by the table for a long time until night fell completely.
She wished so much that Bai Yu could wake up from her coma and tell her what to do. But that was impossible; now she only had herself, and she had to make the choice on her own.
Just as she returned to her room, the phone on the table rang; the caller was Ming Siyu. In the quiet room, it was like a clap of thunder; Liu Ran immediately grabbed it and answered.
“Liu Ran, you, come back now.”
It was a command from the moment she opened her mouth.
Liu Ran thought she had been so disappointed in Ming Siyu that she couldn’t even get angry, but she was still provoked by this unreasonable command until her head buzzed and a roar exploded in her ears.
“I’m in City B, the matter isn’t handled yet, how can I go back?”
The sound of things crashing to the floor came through the receiver.
“Book the nearest flight… I’m telling you to come back, now, immediately, right now, come to my side. Be good, I won’t hold the matter with Zhu Xinghan against you.”
Liu Ran could tell something was wrong with the way Ming Siyu was speaking; there seemed to be slight panting and trembling, as if she were trying her best to suppress something.
But she didn’t have the mind to think about it carefully. “I won’t hold it against you” was like an explosive pack, directly blowing her sanity to pieces.
Not hold it against her? How did Ming Siyu so naturally place herself in the position of the victim? She did have responsibility for the matter with Zhu Xinghan, but that was mostly towards Zhu Xinghan; what wrong did she have towards Ming Siyu?
Did Ming Siyu think she was particularly pitiful, particularly aggrieved, particularly unlucky, and that everyone owed her? That her willingness to forgive was a supreme sacrifice? Did she, Liu Ran, have to kneel down to receive this “magnanimity” and scurry back to be grateful for her “not holding it against her”?
“Ming Siyu, can you stop being so impulsive? You agreed to let me come here, and before the work is even finished, you want me to go back. There should be a limit even to playing with people—”
Beep. Ming Siyu hung up the phone directly.
Liu Ran threw the phone fiercely onto the sofa. The sofa was very elastic; the phone bounced on it a few times and finally fell into the gap between two cushions.
She paced around the room aimlessly twice, feeling that nothing was right or comfortable. Standing felt wrong, sitting felt wrong, sleeping felt wrong, bathing felt wrong, looking at documents felt wrong, researching projects felt wrong, and even eating fruit felt wrong.
Finally, she forced herself to take a shower. In the mirror, the naked woman’s face was full of fatigue and anxiety, as if she hadn’t slept for ten days; the dark circles under her eyes were terrifyingly heavy, her brow was tightly knit, and her eyes were full of violence and despondency.
She almost didn’t recognize herself.
Her mind had never been in such a mess. It hadn’t even been this cluttered when she learned of Shen Yunhe’s death. At least back then she had a direction, knowing what she had to do: settle Bai Yu, hold a funeral for Shen Yunhe, raise money…
And now? Escape? She was unwilling, and she might not even be able to get away. Not escape? What could she do to Ming Siyu? Could she really bite Ming Siyu to death? Could she bring herself to do it?
After the shower, she didn’t even blow-dry her hair and went to sleep in a mess on the bed. She had many dreams; one moment dreaming that Ming Siyu killed her and Bai Yu with a knife, another moment dreaming that Ming Siyu repented for her actions and Bai Yu also forgave Ming Siyu, and the two of them reconciled…
The chaotic dreams consumed what little energy she had left. When the sky was dimming towards dawn, Liu Ran opened her eyes and grabbed her phone to check the time, but received a flight reminder: The flight to City A would take off in three hours; please check in at the terminal at least forty-five minutes in advance.
Checking the order time, it was booked at 2:30 AM. In a half-asleep, half-awake state, she had booked the earliest flight back to City A, thinking she was in a dream.
She sat up, her head splitting with pain. Her finger wavered between “cancel” and “change flight.”
She suddenly recalled what Ming Siyu had said on the phone last night.
After a night of settling, the bloated anger had cooled, the smoke ignited by emotion had cleared, and the words themselves became clear again.
Thinking carefully, Ming Siyu’s tone was not quite normal. At least it was different from her usual calm and composure on the phone; it lacked the confidence of having everything under control. Instead, it seemed to have a bit of… desperate urgency.
I misheard. I’m overthinking. Don’t care.
Liu Ran chanted the three-word mantra in her heart.
With two hours left before the flight took off, Liu Ran clipped the check inside her phone case and, in a “break the jar” manner, took a taxi to the airport.
The ticket was booked when she didn’t have conscious awareness; perhaps it was fate arranging for her to see Ming Siyu one last time.
The last time. From then on, she would never harbor any expectations, any fantasies, or any liking for Ming Siyu.
She arranged for someone else to take over the work. It rained heavily on the way to the airport; Liu Ran was a bit worried about whether the plane could take off on time. After passing security and reaching the departure lounge, she indeed received news of a flight delay due to thunderstorm weather.
In the departure lounge, there was nothing to do but wait. Liu Ran waited until 2:00 PM before the weather finally cleared up a bit and the plane took off. As it turned out, there was also a rainstorm in City A; the plane circled for more than half an hour before finding an opportunity to land. She hadn’t brought an umbrella; the short distance of a dozen meters from the air stairs to the shuttle bus soaked Liu Ran like a drowned rat.
Nothing went smoothly on this trip. Before leaving, Liu Ran felt that fate wanted her to return to City A; after landing, she felt that everything was trying to prevent her return.
She went to the parking lot to drive home. Opening the door, Qi Zhen was startled by her.
Liu Ran went to her room and changed into clean clothes. When she came back out, Ming Siyu hadn’t appeared. She thought Ming Siyu would be at the door to block her the first moment she knew she was back; while changing clothes, she was thinking about how to say the first sentence to Ming Siyu, but to her surprise, only Qi Zhen was at home.
“The eldest miss went to the hospital.”
Qi Zhen shook the lunch box she had just brought back from the hospital and hadn’t had time to wash yet. “The eldest miss was very uncomfortable yesterday, she… wouldn’t let me contact you.”
Looking towards the stairs, she sighed: “The eldest miss fell from upstairs, a bone fracture.”
“How could she fall down?” Liu Ran asked.
Thinking about the scene yesterday, Qi Zhen found it horrifying.
Ming Siyu’s Furry Hunger Syndrome had acted up, and this time it was very serious. Cold sweat poured down, her nails dug into her flesh, and all the plush toys in the room were piled together. Ming Siyu was buried in them, trying to touch as many fuzzy things as possible at once, yet she still couldn’t find relief.
Except for Liu Ran, Ming Siyu didn’t like anyone else to see her when her illness flared up. So Qi Zhen only dared to cautiously offer suggestions outside the bedroom door: “Eldest miss, how about I call Miss Liu and have her come back as soon as possible… Or, I can call a doctor to see if there’s a way to alleviate it…”
She was rejected by Ming Siyu, who suppressed her pain.
She even warned her: “You are not allowed to tell Liu Ran.”
After more than half an hour, Ming Siyu’s door opened.
She stood at the door, her face as deathly pale as a ghost, leaning against the door just to keep herself from falling. Her gaze was heavy as she stared in the direction of Liu Ran’s room, murmuring with a desperate ruthlessness: “Liu Ran, how dare you treat me like this…”
Qi Zhen understood that Ming Siyu wanted to go to Liu Ran’s room. Just as she was about to go up and help, Ming Siyu had already grabbed the stair railing and was shakily stepping down.
She missed a step. Before Qi Zhen could catch her, Ming Siyu tumbled down the stairs.
Liu Ran sat down by Ming Siyu’s bed.
The doctor said they had given Ming Siyu some sedatives and she wouldn’t wake up for the time being.
Ming Siyu lying on the hospital bed was like a beautiful but lifeless porcelain doll; her head was tilted slightly to one side, the blue veins on her arm were clearly visible, and her hands were folded over her chest.
Her brow was slightly furrowed, her face was completely devoid of color, and she was breathing steadily. Those soft lips that always spat out knives were now tightly closed, making her look extremely gentle and peaceful.
Ming Siyu’s phone rang. A corner of the phone screen was shattered; Liu Ran had to tap the answer button twice to connect.
He Qiange was extremely anxious: “Sisi, are you okay? How did I hear you fell down the stairs? Okay, okay, you can still answer the phone, so it shouldn’t be too serious. I said, why are you so stubborn even when you’re sick? Let Liu Ran come back. I did advise you both to cool off for a few days, but isn’t this a special case…”
She said a bunch of things like a machine gun.
“It’s me,” Liu Ran spoke with difficulty.
He Qiange paused. “Liu Ran? Why are you answering the phone? Where’s Sisi?”
“She’s sleeping.” Liu Ran glanced at the woman sleeping quietly, her hand holding the phone trembling: “You said she had a flare-up… What illness does she have? When did she get sick?”
“This—” He Qiange quickly thought about whether to tell the truth. After all, Ming Siyu was someone who valued face very much and was most afraid of people pitying her after knowing she was sick, especially being pitied by a small pet she had bought. Ming Siyu would absolutely not be able to accept it, which was why she hadn’t mentioned it to Liu Ran until now.
She blamed her own big mouth; as soon as the call connected, she couldn’t wait to ask about the situation and didn’t even consider that the one answering might not be Ming Siyu.
But Ming Siyu had been in so much pain she fell down the stairs. Fortunately, the stairs at home weren’t long and the consequences weren’t serious; what if it had been somewhere else?
He Qiange also had some complaints about Liu Ran. Before Ming Siyu was injured, she felt that both of them were responsible for the mess; now that Ming Siyu was injured and lying in the hospital all alone, she felt it was all Liu Ran’s fault.
No matter how angry she was with Ming Siyu, she couldn’t just run off to another city, could she? Ming Siyu didn’t even forget to take Liu Ran when she went abroad; Liu Ran, on the other hand, just ran away after a fight. If she hadn’t run, Ming Siyu could have touched something fuzzy in time when her illness flared up, and she wouldn’t have been in so much distress that she slipped and fell.
Why shouldn’t Liu Ran know the truth? Since she enjoyed the affection Ming Siyu gave her, shouldn’t she share Ming Siyu’s pain?
Perhaps if Liu Ran understood Ming Siyu’s difficulties, the two would reconcile.
So He Qiange changed to a surprised tone: “You don’t know Sisi has Furry Hunger Syndrome?”
Liu Ran didn’t know.
She had once suspected Ming Siyu was a furry lover; later, touching ears and tails became foreplay, and she never thought about it in any other way.
The eager and anxious panting, the impatient touching, the need to carry her around, the plush toys in the shopping cart and on the bed…
It turned out everything had left a trail.
He Qiange knew about Ming Siyu’s illness. What about Qi Zhen? Thinking of Qi Zhen’s hesitant expression, she probably knew too.
Secretary Wen as well. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have answered so sternly that there was no illness the first time she tried to ask if Ming Siyu was sick. Thinking about it now, Secretary Wen’s reaction then was practically “protesting too much.”
Only she didn’t know. Ming Siyu had no intention of telling her at all.
Liu Ran’s buttocks were almost stiff from sitting on the chair. She hadn’t eaten all day but didn’t feel hungry; waves of nausea rolled in her stomach, and her temples throbbed with pain every now and then.
The rain pattered against the window glass, as dense as someone setting off firecrackers.
At midnight, Ming Siyu moved her fingers and woke up.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Liu Ran, whose face was haggard and hair was disheveled, sitting by the bed staring at her with an extremely complex gaze: there was pity, questioning, bewilderment, disgust, worry, fatigue, sadness… but no bright-eyed expectation or affection.
It was as if she were looking at a piece of trash that was about to die.
“Why,” Liu Ran asked hoarsely. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
It sounded like a sentence without a beginning or end, but Ming Siyu immediately understood what she was asking.
Who told Liu Ran? He Qiange? Qi Zhen? Or someone else. But it didn’t matter anymore.
She had called Liu Ran last night, and Liu Ran only returned now. She clearly remembered every word Liu Ran said on the phone.
If someone hadn’t told Liu Ran she was sick, Liu Ran probably would still be in City B refusing to come back, right?
“A pet only needs to follow the master’s orders; it doesn’t need to know why things are done.”
Ming Siyu found that she simply couldn’t calm down. When Liu Ran wasn’t in front of her, she was indeed much more rational, and He Qiange’s advice was indeed useful; but as soon as Liu Ran appeared, facing her, hearing each other’s breathing, she was completely unable to remain composed.
She had clearly prepared herself, prepared to accept that in Ming Siyu’s eyes she was nothing more than a pet that just needed to be obedient, but hearing this answer with her own ears, Liu Ran’s heart still felt as if it were being squeezed by a giant hand. The momentary hollowness in her chest almost made her fall off the chair.
All the expectations she once had for Ming Siyu, the affection she carefully hid in her heart, thinking Ming Siyu just had a bit of a bad temper and if she were more accommodating, they could eventually live like lovers…
Yet at this moment, it all became a joke. Love and naive ignorance were equated; she was so ridiculous, she actually dared to love Ming Siyu.
Fortunately, she was sober now. Looking back at her previous efforts to please Ming Siyu in every way, only disgust remained.
“I’ve disappointed you.”
“It doesn’t count as disappointment.” Ming Siyu gave a pale smile. “It’s your turn to answer me: you used to be very good and obedient, who is it because of that you’re treating me like this now?”
She tried her best to restrain the emotions that were on the verge of exploding.
“Don’t you love me?”
The calmness in Liu Ran’s eyes caused her irrational panic.
“You’ve got it wrong; I’ve never loved you. The period when you thought I was ‘good’ was just me pretending because I wanted to live more comfortably in your house.”
