Chapter 85: “The Master At The Temple Told Me That My Future Wife… Is Named Xie Yin, And Is A Stunningly Beautiful Snake Demon.”
Following Xie Yin’s guidance, Ji Yunfei stepped into the dense forest. She had expected the paths to be complex and confusing, making it easy to get lost, but to her surprise, after only a few steps, a smooth stone path appeared.
“Just follow this stone road,” Xie Yin said, her eyes half-open as she glanced at the path ahead. She then proceeded to order her “little servant,” Ji Yunfei, to keep moving.
“Is it much further?” Ji Yunfei tilted her head. It wasn’t that she was complaining about the distance, but earlier her excitement had numbed her physical pain. Now that her emotions had stabilized, waves of throbbing pain were surging back like a tide—it was truly unpleasant.
She needed to reach the Snake Den quickly.
Hearing this, the person in her arms arched an eyebrow and shot her a provocative look. “What? Can’t walk anymore? Tsk tsk, you really are as weak as you look…” As she spoke, she pinched Ji Yunfei’s arm hard.
This girl… I never realized her tongue was so sharp before…
Ji Yunfei didn’t take offense at the “Eldest Miss.” Instead, she gave her arms a little upward bounce as she walked. Caught off guard by the sudden jolt, Xie Yin reflexively hooked her arms tightly around Ji Yunfei’s neck in a panic, pressing her body close against her.
“You’d better hope for my well-being, Eldest Miss. Otherwise, no one will carry you back… and you’ll be stuck here with me waiting to be eaten by wild beasts.” Ji Yunfei squinted her eyes happily, not forgetting to tease. She realized she felt very much like a mischievous fox right now, enjoying the way she toyed with the stubborn, sharp-tongued little snake in her arms.
“You aren’t allowed to leave me behind! Otherwise…”
“Otherwise what?”
“Otherwise, when my mothers find me, they definitely won’t let you off!” Xie Yin punched Ji Yunfei in the chest crossly, feeling quite dissatisfied with this “wicked” human. In her mind, humans were supposed to be honest, simple creatures. But the one in front of her seemed more like a cunning old fox full of schemes and bad ideas.
Ji Yunfei didn’t feel much from the punch; it felt like a ball of cotton hitting her heart—soft and harmless. She tightened her hold to ensure the person in her arms was secure and comfortable.
“Yes, yes, I won’t leave you. If you’re well-behaved, I’ll keep holding you.”
Seeing that the other was still pouting, she couldn’t resist planting a light kiss on the crown of that jet-black hair, laughing as she asked, “Do your mothers know you have such a temper?”
“You lecher! You rogue!” Having been “violated” by Ji Yunfei again, Xie Yin instantly turned into a pink snake, her whole body flushed hot with shame. She pushed Ji Yunfei’s head away with her hand, though she didn’t demand to be put down.
For some reason, even though this person was like a pervert who touched her the moment they met, followed her the whole way, and took advantage of her repeatedly, Xie Yin couldn’t find it in her to be truly angry. It was as if, in her subconscious, she actually liked this person being so close…
How absurd!
Xie Yin shook her head to clear those wild thoughts. For now, she had to rely on this “perverted old fox” to carry her back to the Snake Den, so she would just have to endure it.
Once we get back to the Snake Den, hmph, I’m going to throw this rogue into the dungeon!!
Unaware of Xie Yin’s inner thoughts, Ji Yunfei continued to serve as a diligent little servant, walking deeper into the forest along the stone path. Seeing that Xie Yin had buried her head in her chest and stopped talking, she decided to fish for some information.
“Hey, why were you alone in that cave in the middle of the night? Weren’t you afraid some bad guy would catch you and turn you into snake wine?”
Hearing this, Xie Yin didn’t look up, only muttering, “Tsk, are you talking about yourself?”
Choked by the retort, Ji Yunfei wasn’t annoyed. She said softly, “Eldest Miss, be generous and don’t be cross with me. I’m serious—what if you hadn’t met me today? What if a villain caught you by your weak spot while you weren’t looking? You’d be waiting to be pickled in a jar.”
“Hmph, I’m not that weak.” She lifted her head, crossing her arms with a look of disdain. “Dealing with those small fry is as easy as snapping my fingers. Besides, my ice chamber isn’t a place just anyone can find…” She paused, giving Ji Yunfei a meaningful look. “That’s right… an ordinary person couldn’t find it. And you even know my name… Speak, who exactly are you?”
Seeing Xie Yin’s eyes suddenly shift into snake pupils and her fangs emerge, Ji Yunfei let out a silent scream of despair.
Heaven be my witness, this isn’t my fault! First, how could I not know my own wife’s name? Second, Xie Yin was the one who lured me to that ice chamber the first time; this time I just stumbled upon it by wandering around—it was pure luck!
Ji Yunfei was at a loss for words and could only try to laugh it off. She put on her trademark smile to soothe the suspicious little snake who looked like she might poison her at any moment. “Look at me, I’m clearly a defenseless, unlucky human. No need to be so guarded… my intrusion was a total accident.”
“Besides, if I had other motives, would I be carrying you back to the Snake Den right now?” After saying this, Ji Yunfei blinked her eyes piteously at Xie Yin, as if trying to stare a hole through her face.
Perhaps because Ji Yunfei’s gaze was too intense, Xie Yin’s momentum weakened. She looked away, muttering, “I suppose you aren’t that capable… but how do you actually know my name? And calling me that so mushily—even my mothers have never called me that…”
Xie Yin hadn’t forgotten how this woman—who looked decent but was full of mischief—couldn’t take her eyes off her and kept calling her “Yin-yin.”
So mushy! I don’t even know her!
“I’ll let you in on a secret. Actually, before I went up the mountain, I asked for a fortune at the Matchmaker Temple…” Ji Yunfei acted mysterious. Seeing the “silly snake” perk up her ears in curiosity, she slowly continued, “Guess what I drew?”
“Stop stalling, tell me, tell me!”
The corners of Ji Yunfei’s mouth curled up. She leaned in and blew a soft breath against Xie Yin’s ear, saying slowly, “The fortune said that if I went up the mountain at midnight, I would meet my future wife…”
“What does your future wife have to do with me? I’m asking how you know my name.” Disturbed by Ji Yunfei’s action, Xie Yin glared at her, but the crimson hue crept back onto her ears.
“Why are you so impatient? I haven’t finished.” Seeing Xie Yin trying to hide her embarrassment with a subject change, Ji Yunfei laughed. She held her tighter and blinked mischievously. “The Master at the temple told me that my future wife… is named Xie Yin, and is a stunningly beautiful snake demon…”
“So, the moment I saw you, I knew you matched the Master’s description perfectly.” After finishing, she looked at Xie Yin with feigned innocence.
“Well… I am indeed the most beautiful in the clan…” Xie Yin was quite pleased with the “stunningly beautiful” compliment. Her snake tail began to wag gently along with her good mood.
“Pfft—!” Seeing her like this, Ji Yunfei couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“You—taking advantage of me again? Who wants to be your wife? I’m just a two-hundred-year-old baby snake who just transformed, you pervert!” Realizing she had been played by the cunning human again, Xie Yin grew indignant. She stopped talking to Ji Yunfei and transformed into a normal-sized snake, coiling herself around Ji Yunfei’s neck.
“Are you really going to ignore me?” Ji Yunfei poked her gently. Seeing that the other was determined to be silent, she gave up. Regardless of whether Xie Yin was listening, she began to talk to herself. “I haven’t introduced myself properly yet…” She trailed off, peeking at Xie Yin’s reaction.
Seeing the little snake—who had been tightly closing her eyes—peek through a tiny slit, Ji Yunfei smiled. “My name is Ji Yunfei, a humble office worker… if you like, you can call me A-Fei.”
“You said you’re just a two-hundred-year-old baby snake? Is two hundred considered young for your kind?”
“Humans are so ignorant! Our two hundred years converted to human age… is roughly eighteen years old.” Xie Yin finally spoke, though her tone was still laced with a hint of disdain.
Oh… eighteen… so she really is a baby snake.
“Then how did this baby snake get covered in injuries?” Mentioning the wounds made Ji Yunfei’s chest feel tight with heartache.
“Mmm… I was hunted by a group of bad guys wearing masks. I was on the brink of death then. When I woke up from my faint, I was like this.” Xie Yin sounded uncertain herself. “But I feel something is wrong. My beautiful tail shouldn’t have been injured…”
As she spoke, the snake tail—wrapped in thick gauze—appeared before Ji Yunfei’s eyes.
“It’s a pity you never saw me before I was hurt; you would have been completely enchanted.” The little snake raised its head proudly.
I’ve seen it, a long time ago. It was indeed beautiful, and I was enchanted long ago. Ji Yunfei answered silently in her heart but didn’t show it.
Two hundred years old, hunted by masked villains… Demon Hunters?
Ji Yunfei processed Xie Yin’s words, her brain working rapidly to piece together the fragments. She quickly found a lead.
The current Xie Yin thought she was two hundred years old, having just survived the Demon Hunters. Her memory had stopped at that hunt, and Ji Yunfei—along with all their other memories—had been forgotten.
What did those lunatics do? What kind of injury could make Xie Yin’s memory regress a thousand years?
Ji Yunfei couldn’t bear to think further. She unconsciously ground her teeth, a fire igniting in her eyes.
I will never let those bastards get away with this.
“Hey, why did you stop talking? And you’re grinding your teeth; it’s scary.” Seeing Ji Yunfei’s silence and sensing the shift in her mood, Xie Yin spoke up to break her train of thought.
“Ah, nothing. I just got lost in thought.” Snapping back to reality, Ji Yunfei realized she hadn’t controlled her emotions well. She smiled and gently stroked the little snake’s head, her gaze somewhat lonely. “I’m sorry…” For failing to protect you.
“Why are you apologizing to me for no reason? Humans are so strange…” Xie Yin shook her head, not understanding the random apology.
“It’s nothing, don’t mind it. Just think of me as a strange person.” Ji Yunfei smiled, looked up, and gazed at the bottomless cliff before her.
She had seen this place before.
