Chapter 84: “How Are You So Insincere… Your Tail Is Wagging Like Crazy; You Clearly Like This…”
“Hiss, hiss, hiss—!” Seeing Ji Yunfei dazed on the spot, the giant python, already irritated from having its slumber disturbed, seemed to lose the last of its patience. It flicked its tail—still wrapped in thick layers of gauze—and began to slither toward the exit.
Because it had been coiled up earlier, Ji Yunfei hadn’t been able to see the state of its tail. Now, seeing the heavy bandaging, her heart felt as if it were being violently wrenched. Before her brain could even process a thought, her body acted; she stepped in front of the python, blocking its path.
“Yin-yin… I missed you so much…” Seeing the python stop, Ji Yunfei knelt down, reached out to stroke the snake’s head, and spoke softly.
Hearing her words, the giant python froze, a trace of confusion flitting through its snake pupils. It looked at Ji Yunfei’s hand resting on its head and actually nudged against it instinctively.
Sensing its initiative, Ji Yunfei’s hand trembled, her excitement hard to conceal. However, before she could be happy for long, the python seemed to realize what it was doing. Its half-closed eyes snapped wide open. While Ji Yunfei was still immersed in her emotion, it swept its tail across, knocking her aside.
“Ow—hiss—!” Caught off guard, Ji Yunfei was swept several meters away, landing hard on her backside. The sharp pain caused her facial expression to collapse into a distorted grimace.
Seeing her rubbing her bottom and yelping in pain, the python’s forward movement stalled. It tilted its head to glance at her—but only for a second—before slapping its large tail against the ground and slithering out without looking back.
“Cough, cough—Yin-yin, wait for me!” The dust kicked up by the tail surged into her nose and eyes. Ji Yunfei coughed and waved her hands, struggling to her feet. Seeing the python’s figure moving further away and merging into the darkness, she ignored everything else, grabbed her flashlight, and followed.
Fortunately, Ji Yunfei was fast enough to catch up before the python disappeared completely. She followed cautiously, staying two or three meters behind, trailing the tip of that tail.
She didn’t know how long they walked or how many twists and turns they took in the mountain, but suddenly, the python stopped. It stood with its back to her, emitting constant hissing sounds. Ji Yunfei nearly failed to brake in time, almost stepping on that fragile snake tail. As she stopped, she finally came to her senses and was shocked to find that the surroundings were completely unfamiliar and shrouded in a light mist.
“Where did you lead me… When did the back mountain have a place like this?” In this strange environment, Ji Yunfei felt uneasy, and her voice trembled. The python seemed to hear her and turned its body to face her.
One human and one snake stared at each other in silence. Ji Yunfei wanted to speak, but she was scared into silence by the other’s resentful gaze. She swallowed quietly, a bad premonition rising in her heart.
Sure enough, the python lowered its eyelids, casting a malicious look at her. Then, it slowly moved its body, approaching her.
That look was like a high-level predator looking at prey that had already fallen into its trap…
Absolute certainty of the kill.
“Are you really going to eat me?” Ji Yunfei couldn’t understand. This look was too foreign; she had never seen it on Xie Yin before.
But the one in front of her was clearly Xie Yin. No one could impersonate her. The patterns on Xie Yin’s true form and those eyes were unique…
“Hiss, hiss, hiss—” The python continued to approach. Ji Yunfei had no choice but to retreat while trying to soothe the giant snake whose eyes were burning with fire.
Crack—!
“Ah—!” Her foot stepped on something unknown. Ji Yunfei felt her ankle twist, followed by a surge of intense pain. Losing her balance, she fell toward the back right.
Swish, swish, swish— The sound of leaves and dry branches being crushed filled her ears as her body tumbled rapidly down a steep slope. In a daze, Ji Yunfei heard the sharp, ear-piercing sound of her thick coat being ripped open.
The agonizing pain registered a moment later, but she bit her lower lip hard, refusing to cry out. Just before her consciousness faded, a sensation of coolness seemed to slip into her arms—smooth to the touch. She instinctively clung to it tightly, pressing her entire body against it.
A familiar, cool voice echoed in her ear, laced with helplessness and annoyance.
“You really are quite unlucky…”
“Hiss…” Consciousness slowly returned from the chaos. The stinging sunlight made it impossible for Ji Yunfei to open her eyes. She tried to raise a hand to shield them, but a violent surge of pain forced her to abandon the idea.
“Huh…?” The sensation beneath her felt wrong. It wasn’t cold, hard rock, nor was it rough grass. Instead, it was warm and soft… it seemed to be a person?
Realizing this, Ji Yunfei’s eyes snapped open. she struggled to sit up.
“If your body itches, scratch it yourself. Don’t rub against me…” A slightly disgusted female voice came from beneath her. Ji Yunfei’s movements froze, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to do.
She wasn’t hallucinating. That was Xie Yin’s voice.
“Aren’t you going to get up? Are you trying to crush me?” The voice rang out again. Ji Yunfei endured the pain and scrambled up, sitting on the grass to the side.
“Sorry, I… I didn’t mean to press down on you…” Ji Yunfei looked at the person lying there and immediately met those green eyes. Her gaze slowly swept over the person’s entire body. Xie Yin was dressed in a blue-black robe, her jet-black hair scattered around her. The long, thick tail wrapped in heavy gauze beneath her was particularly striking.
For some reason, Ji Yunfei lowered her head, not quite daring to meet her gaze.
“Yin-yin… are you okay?” Seeing that Xie Yin made no move to get up, Ji Yunfei pursed her lips and spoke tentatively.
“Do I look okay to you? Also, how do you know my name? Calling me something so mushy…” The reclining Xie Yin glared at Ji Yunfei. She flicked her tail and raised her arms, snapping crossly: “Carry me up.”
“Huh…?” Ji Yunfei was stunned, caught off guard by Xie Yin’s sudden demand.
“If it weren’t for saving you, would I be unable to get up right now? Look for yourself—those rocks and broken branches, look at what they’ve done to my beautiful tail.” Xie Yin waved her tail in front of Ji Yunfei.
On that beautiful snake tail, aside from the scabbed-over old wounds, there were several new, small cuts, some still seeping blood. Ji Yunfei felt a pang of pain in her heart. She gently took the snake tail in her arms and kissed it.
Mwah— Although it was just a brief touch, the sound of her lips meeting the snake tail and pulling away was audible, making one’s face flush.
“You—how can you be so shameless?” Not expecting Ji Yunfei to be so bold, a faint blush appeared on Xie Yin’s face, and her gaze flickered. She snatched her big tail out of Ji Yunfei’s arms and, in her embarrassment, swiped her away as well.
“Don’t you know the tail of the snake race shouldn’t be touched lightly? Only a partner can touch it, and you—you actually used your mouth to kiss it!?” Xie Yin hugged her “violated” tail protectively, looking at Ji Yunfei as if she wanted to kill her.
“Sob… I’ve met a total pervert. My purity is gone… How am I supposed to find a partner or lay a clutch of snake eggs in the future…” The more she thought, the more aggrieved Xie Yin became. She curled into a ball, burying her head under her tail, refusing to see anyone.
“Find a partner…? Lay snake eggs…?” Hearing those words, Ji Yunfei ground her back teeth, her tone unreadable. “You still want to find someone else…?”
Hearing Ji Yunfei’s darkened tone, Xie Yin found it baffling. She was clearly the victim; why was this human the one being unhappy?
“You—ah!” When had she, the Little Overlord of the Snake Den, ever suffered such an insult? She pouted and was about to retort when her body was suddenly lifted into the air.
The sudden feeling of weightlessness made her instinctively reach out for anything she could grasp. And with that reach, she caught Ji Yunfei’s neck.
Looking at the person in her arms who was squeezing her eyes shut in fear, Ji Yunfei curled her lips. She adjusted her grip into a firmer bridal carry, leaned close to that fair ear, and whispered: “Where’s that tyrannical attitude from before? Why are you acting like a coward now?”
After speaking, she narrowed her eyes and waited quietly for Xie Yin’s reaction. She watched as the snow-white earlobe rapidly turned pink, followed soon by the cheeks and the base of the neck. Ji Yunfei’s mood improved instantly, and she could no longer even feel the stinging pain in her body.
“How can there be someone like you!!” Xie Yin hadn’t fully recovered yet, and physiological tears from being startled still lingered at the corners of her eyes. She glared at Ji Yunfei resentfully, but her brain stalled when she met those smiling eyes. The temperature of her ears continued to climb.
What was going on? Why did her face start burning just by looking at this annoying pervert? She must have damaged her brain in the fall!
“Let me go!” The more she thought, the more embarrassed she became. Xie Yin struggled to escape Ji Yunfei’s embrace.
Looking at Xie Yin’s current state, Ji Yunfei already had a vague suspicion. She didn’t grant Xie Yin’s wish; instead, she held her tighter. Looking at the snake tail that was wagging back and forth, she whispered: “How are you so insincere… Your tail is wagging like crazy; you clearly like this…”
She paused and looked meaningfully at the “silly snake” who had somehow buried her head in Ji Yunfei’s chest. “Being duplicitous is not a good habit…”
“Shut up!” Frustrated, Xie Yin reached out to cover Ji Yunfei’s mouth. Ji Yunfei didn’t stop her, allowing those long, beautiful hands to press against her lips. Instead, she gently blew a breath of air into that slightly cool palm.
The hot breath successfully warmed the hand, and the fair palm soon turned a faint pink, matching her cheeks and ears.
“Alright, stop acting tough. You said you couldn’t get up just now. If I really put you down, you’d probably be unhappy, wouldn’t you?” Seeing that the person in her arms was truly overwhelmed with shame, Ji Yunfei stopped teasing.
Seeing Xie Yin still curled in her arms like a quail, silent, Ji Yunfei smiled dotingly: “Alright, it was my fault for teasing you. You are my savior; I should thank you first.”
The person in her arms moved. That elegant face was flushed crimson. Xie Yin pouted, refusing to look Ji Yunfei in the eye, and stammered: “It’s… it’s good that you know.”
“Then, can my savior tell me where we should go now?”
“Ahem, don’t call me ‘savior.’ Follow everyone else here and call me ‘Eldest Miss’.” Seeing Ji Yunfei back down, Xie Yin regained her swagger. She nodded slightly, her tone full of pride.
“Yes, yes, Eldest Miss. Where are we going now?” This was the first time Ji Yunfei had seen this slightly spoiled side of Xie Yin. Beyond the novelty, she found the person in front of her incredibly adorable. Naturally, she was happy to play along with the role-play of the “Eldest Miss and the Little Servant.”
“Go this way.” Xie Yin snuggled comfortably into her “little servant’s” embrace, pointed toward the dense jungle in the distance, and said lazily: “I’m taking you back to the Snake Den to broaden your horizons.”
