- Chapter 60 - Regains His Memory
Huo Zhenzhou lounged lazily on the sofa, clutching the gift Li Su had prepared for him, his eyes reddened at the corners, his breathing ragged.
His mind was frantically processing memories.
Flashes of his past with Li Su kept resurfacing.
Their first meeting, their growing closeness, their love, their engagement.
When he confessed, she had gently agreed, smiling as brilliantly as pear blossoms in bloom.
Whenever he had free time, he would visit the dance studio to watch her practice.
Li Su would finish her routine, then run toward him with a smile. “A-Zhou, how was my dance just now?”
He would hand her a water bottle while replying, “Beautiful,” his fingers tenderly brushing aside the strands of hair damp with sweat.
Li Su would beam at him. “Thank you, A-Zhou~”
On the night Li Su won the national dance championship, Huo Zhenzhou proposed to her.
Memories that had once been lost were now vivid in his mind.
That night, Li Su had worn a white gown, her long black hair straight and sleek, her makeup light and elegant, radiant and gentle, like a fairy descending to the mortal world.
He knelt on one knee. “Li Su, will you marry me?”
She had answered excitedly, “Yes!”
Huo Zhenzhou slipped the ring onto her finger, and Li Su threw herself into his arms, laughing as they embraced deeply.
Huo Zhenzhou clutched his chest, his heart was aching.
He remembered. He remembered everything!!
Li Su was his fiancée!
His fiancée was Li Su.
Along with those beautiful memories, the events of the past few months also flooded his mind.
His injury, his amnesia, his marriage to someone else, and his subsequent divorce.
He had hurt Li Su deeply.
They had once been so, so deeply in love.
Huo Zhenzhou stared at the card Li Su had written, tears splashing onto the paper.
“Ahhh!!”
He let out a hoarse cry.
He couldn’t believe what he had done during this time.
Staggering, Huo Zhenzhou rushed out of the room and began pounding on the door.
He couldn’t wait another second.
Inside the room, Li Su was straddling Huo Xuanye’s lap, her lips trailing over his skin. Huo Xuanye’s shirt was half undone, the strap of Li Su’s nightgown slipping off her shoulder, the atmosphere thick with intimacy as they kissed fervently.
The sudden knocking made Li Su pause. She tilted her head, resting it against Huo Xuanye’s shoulder as she caught her breath.
Huo Xuanye had also had a bit to drink tonight, sometimes a light buzz was nice. His gaze was hazy as he gripped Li Su’s slender waist, already feeling a flicker of irritation toward whoever was knocking at this hour.
Who dared disturb them in the middle of the night?
The knocking grew urgent, as if something critical had happened.
“Su-Su, I was wrong!”
Huo Zhenzhou’s voice came from outside the door.
Ever since his amnesia, Huo Zhenzhou had never called her “Su-Su.”
Li Su and Huo Xuanye exchanged glances, both seeing the same realization in each other’s eyes.
Huo Zhenzhou had regained his memory!
“Su-Su, open the door! Su-Su, I remember now, we were engaged!”
“You love me! You love me!”
Not long ago, they had been happily celebrating Huo Zhenzhou’s birthday. Now, Huo Xuanye just wanted to pin his newly memory-restored brother against the wall.
He tugged Li Su’s nightgown strap back into place. “Baby, don’t listen.”
Li Su was completely stunned.
Huo Zhenzhou had regained his memory.
He remembered everything.
He remembered how deeply they had loved each other, how beautiful their past had been, how they had been engaged.
And then?
What now?
“Su-Su, please divorce him! He took advantage of the situation! He’s not a good man!”
Huo Xuanye’s warm palm gently patted Li Su, raising an eyebrow. “Me? Not a good person?”
Li Su slid off Huo Xuanye’s lap. “You should go out now, or you’ll wake up the elders.”
“Wait for me.”
Huo Xuanye got up to open the door.
When he opened it, he found Huo Zhenzhou standing outside with red-rimmed eyes.
Huo Zhenzhou clutched a card in his hand, breathing heavily. “Huo Xuanye, give her back to me!”
“Brother, what are you talking about? Li Su is a person, not an object. I married her, it’s not like I’m just holding onto her for you temporarily. Just because you’ve regained your memories doesn’t mean she has to be with you!”
Just a minute ago, Huo Xuanye had been intimately entwined with Li Su. Now, his lips were flushed red, the collar of his robe loose, revealing telltale marks of passion. He smirked, wicked and unrepentant. “Brother, my wife has standards. She can’t stand secondhand men. Give up, she doesn’t want you anymore. She’ll never want you again in this lifetime.”
Huo Zhenzhou had just regained his memories, still feeling as though he and Li Su were in the midst of their passionate romance.
How could Li Su have married someone else, and his own younger brother, no less?
He couldn’t accept it, no matter what.
Huo Zhenzhou refused to be discouraged. “You rushed into marriage, she doesn’t love you. The only reason she married you is because you’re my brother, because you resemble me! You’re just my replacement!”
Being a replacement was one thing when Huo Xuanye acknowledged it himself, but hearing it from Huo Zhenzhou’s mouth was entirely different.
Li Su had never said she loved him.
Only that she loved his face, so similar to his brother’s.
“Brother, you’re drunk. Go sleep it off and calm down. You’re divorced, we’re not. And we’ll never divorce in this lifetime.” A cold glint flashed in Huo Xuanye’s eyes. “She can’t marry both of us, so you’re out of luck~”
So what if they had loved each other before?
That was all in the past.
Here and now, Li Su’s name was on the same marriage certificate as his.
Huo Zhenzhou was the ex.
No matter how desolate Huo Zhenzhou’s gaze was, no matter how heartbroken and miserable his expression, Huo Xuanye wouldn’t soften.
There was only one wife, and even a brother couldn’t take her away.
Huo Xuanye turned and went back into the room.
For all the bravado he’d shown Huo Zhenzhou moments ago, his expression now was fragile.
Li Su was still sitting on the sofa. He walked over, lowering himself to bury his face in the crook of her neck. “Brother’s regained his memories. You’re not going to divorce me and remarry him, are you?”
The Huo family drama just kept piling up, one mess after another.
While Huo Xuanye had been outside, Li Su had also been reminiscing about her past with Huo Zhenzhou.
Today, of all days, Huo Zhenzhou’s birthday, he had regained his memories. She wondered what had triggered it.
Then she remembered: seven months ago, she had prepared a gift for Huo Zhenzhou in Italy, along with a birthday card.
Maybe seeing those heartfelt words had jolted his memories back.
Over the past few months, she’d been recovering from her injuries and had long forgotten about what happened seven months ago.
Huo Xuanye wrapped his arms around Li Su’s waist, pressing his face against hers, his breath low. “Wife, why aren’t you answering me? Are you actually considering it?”
“I’m not considering it.”
Li Su gently pushed his face away. “If I ever divorce you, it’ll be because you made me unhappy, because we couldn’t make it work, not just because he regained his memories.”
Huo Zhenzhou’s amnesia and subsequent marriage to someone else, Li Su had never gotten over that.
She could be magnanimous, but she could also be petty.
This matter had always weighed on her mind.
She would never forgive Huo Zhenzhou.
Just as she would never forgive the person who had injured her leg.
“Are you sleepy? Let’s go to bed first.”
“Mhm.”
Their mood dampened, Huo Xuanye carried her back to bed, holding her close as they slept.
Outside the door, Huo Zhenzhou leaned dejectedly against the wall, murmuring softly, “Susu, Susu…”
