- Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother
- Chapter 59 - Receives a Gift from Li Su Prepared Months Ago for His Birthday
After a week-long business trip, Huo Zhenzhou returned to the country.
Still jet-lagged, he slept at home during the day.
When he woke up, hungry, Huo Zhenzhou leisurely stepped out.
In the hallway on the second floor, he saw Li Su emerging on crutches.
As if guided by some inexplicable force, Huo Zhenzhou walked toward her.
They lived on the second floor, and Huo Zhenzhou always took the stairs.
He had never used the elevator before.
But today, he accompanied Li Su into the elevator.
She couldn’t even remember the last time she and Huo Zhenzhou had been alone in the same space.
It felt like a distant memory.
Once, they had been inseparable lovers. Now, they were relatives.
Huo Zhenzhou spoke first, “Why aren’t you using the wheelchair?”
Li Su replied softly, “Just getting some exercise.”
Huo Zhenzhou disagreed, “You should walk less. You’re still recovering.”
Li Su answered politely yet distantly, “Thank you for your concern, brother. I’ll be careful.”
If there was anything that could provoke Huo Xuanye now, it was the sight of his wife and brother stepping out of the elevator together!
Without even taking off his suit, he rushed over.
Huo Xuanye was generous, he tossed the crutches to Huo Zhenzhou and scooped Li Su into his arms. “You promised to wait for me. Why didn’t you listen?”
Li Su nestled against his chest. “I only walked a few steps.”
Huo Xuanye hastily said to Huo Zhenzhou, who stood there holding the crutches in confusion, “Bro, I’m taking Susu to the hospital for a check-up. I’ll catch up with you later.”
Huo Zhenzhou held the crutches. “Alright.”
Once in the car, Huo Xuanye sat Li Su on his lap, sulking in silence.
Li Su tried to shift away.
Huo Xuanye’s lap wasn’t as comfortable as the leather seats, after all~
“What are you moving for?”
Huo Xuanye pressed his face against hers. “Why did you two come out together?”
“I’m a patient. I can’t walk as fast as him, so I had to take the elevator. You should ask your brother that question.” Li Su shot him a cold look.
Huo Xuanye was just looking for reasons to make himself jealous.
“He probably just wanted to check on you, worried you might fall,” Huo Xuanye reassured himself.
That had to be it.
His brother was a good man.
Kind-hearted.
Li Su walking on crutches, what if she took a bad fall?
Li Su lazily replied, “Probably~”
At the hospital, Li Su grew nervous.
She was afraid her recovery wasn’t going well.
Sitting in the wheelchair, she clutched her clothes tightly.
“Can we skip the check-up?”
“Hubby~ Can we come back tomorrow?”
Li Su chickened out.
Huo Xuanye leaned down. “You can’t avoid the doctor when you’re sick.”
“I’m scared~”
Huo Xuanye gently cupped her face. “Wife, don’t be afraid. We’ve been doing the rehab exercises exactly as the doctor said. Every check-up so far has shown your leg is recovering better than expected. If you don’t want to come to the hospital next time, we’ll have him examine you at home.”
The only reason they came to the hospital was because the equipment here was more comprehensive.
Huo Xuanye suggested, “Do you want to walk around outside first before going in?”
Li Su shook her head. “Let’s just go now!”
Whether she faced it or not, the outcome was the same, might as well charge ahead!
The doctor examined Li Su’s legs and feet thoroughly, then asked her to walk slowly for observation.
Too afraid to look at the doctor’s face, Li Su gripped Huo Xuanye’s hand, her heart pounding wildly.
After the doctor’s examination, he said, “Good, recovery is progressing well. It’s almost 12 weeks now. In a few more days, you can fully bear weight and strengthen your muscles, especially the triceps surae and the intrinsic foot muscles. You can try swimming or riding a stationary bike. For dancers like you, you can also do some seated or lying-down dance movements and even attempt ballet barre training.”
Li Su let out a sigh of relief, her legs were more resilient than she had imagined.
She had always been afraid to put too much weight on them.
She was afraid of falling.
She was afraid of getting injured again.
Huo Xuanye was exceptionally polite: “Thank you, doctor.”
With her legs recovering well, Li Su felt the wind was pleasant on her way back from the hospital.
In reality, the wind was chilly that day, howling through the roadside branches.
Huo Zhenzhou had spent two days at home adjusting to the time difference before heading back to work at the company.
After finishing two meetings, Huo Zhenzhou returned to his office and noticed a gift box placed on the coffee table.
“Who sent this?”
“The secretary just brought it in. She said it was from… um…” Zhuo Yang hesitated.
“Boss, today is your birthday. I heard this gift is from Miss Li…”
How terrifying!
Li Su had actually been the first to send Huo Zhenzhou a birthday gift.
Huo Zhenzhou stared at the exquisitely wrapped gift box. During breakfast together that morning, Li Su hadn’t mentioned preparing a birthday gift for him.
“Boss, do you want to open it and see?” Zhuo Yang suggested. “Maybe it’s a joint gift from Miss Li and the second young master!”
“Just leave it there.”
Birthdays and such weren’t important.
Work came first.
After work, Huo Zhenzhou took the gift back to his room and casually tossed it onto the coffee table.
He changed into loungewear and had just stepped out when Huo Xuanye appeared at the door.
“Happy birthday, brother.”
Huo Xuanye handed him a gift. “This is from me and my wife.”
Huo Zhenzhou accepted it, a hint of confusion in his heart.
This gift was from Huo Xuanye and Li Su together.
Then…
What about the gift in his room? Was that from Li Su alone?
Why would Li Su secretly send him a birthday gift on her own?
And to his office, no less.
Huo Xuanye turned to leave first. “Let’s go downstairs for dinner. I’ll have a drink with you tonight!”
Without opening the gift, Huo Zhenzhou went downstairs, where the family was noisily celebrating his 28th birthday.
The dining room was adorned with an elegant dinner, fresh flowers, burning candles, a birthday cake with “28” on it, and the sound of “Happy Birthday.”
“Close your eyes and make a wish!”
Huo Zhenzhou closed his eyes, but an image from the past surfaced in his mind.
It was from his birthday last year.
Li Su had celebrated with him, standing so close they blew out the candles together.
She had smiled and asked him what birthday wish he had made.
He had smiled back and told her, “I hope we can celebrate together again next year.”
As the song ended, Huo Zhenzhou opened his eyes and mechanically blew out the candles.
He picked up his wine glass and took a sip, his gaze flickering toward Li Su, who sat quietly.
Had his birthday wish from last year come true in a way?
Huo Zhenzhou hadn’t fully regained his memories yet, and his mind was a jumbled mess.
After dinner, Huo Zhenzhou trudged upstairs with heavy steps.
He sat on the black sofa, his usually cool eyes now tinged with a rosy hue from the alcohol.
He opened the gift from Huo Xuanye, a watch.
Then he opened the gift Li Su had sent to his office.
Another watch.
The two watches were different.
Huo Zhenzhou held the watch in his left hand and picked up the card hidden beneath it with his right.
Written in elegant, beautiful regular script were the words:
Hi~
Dear A-Zhou!
Happy 28th birthday!
We’ve loved each other for another year!
I hope my fiancé, Huo Zhenzhou, stays healthy and happy, with smooth work and joy every day.
May we love each other more with each passing day~
This watch was custom-made during my performance in Italy, I designed it myself! Inside, our initials “hzz&ls” are engraved. It’s not just a birthday gift but also my token of love for you.
Love, Susu.
March 26, 2025.
This gift was prepared by Li Su before Huo Zhenzhou’s accident.
As Huo Zhenzhou read the message, gripping the watch engraved with their initials tightly, fragmented memories surged through his mind like a relentless tide.
